This place always has a long line, and once you pay to get in, you cant come back once you leave, so those are the two downfalls. It's quite slow at first, but as the night goes on, the crowd picks up much more. However, the staff is nice, the music is great, and the drinks aren't bad. read more

I came here for Memorial Day weekend and had a blast! It's nice well decorated and very spacious. There's a inside and outside part. Lots of attractive people. The music was pretty good nice mix of rap reggae and afrobeats. The dresscode was pretty laid back I saw people in lingerie and heels, other in tracksuits and sneakers. Cover charge was $20 not much sitting was available unless you were in a section. Drinks were a little over priced but thats to be expected in the club. The only down side was it rained so I didn't get to enjoy the patio. Other than that no complaints. Overall I enjoy myself and can not wait to come back again. read more

Terrible experience! Got tickets off of eventbrite and when we got to the door we where told they were fake so there would be no free entry but they would make a deal of 2 for 20 (which i honestly felt like was a scam. Also the wait to get in the club is too long 15-20 minutes and when we walked inside there was absolutely no one there. My friend was told that all drinks with Hennessy are $20 (absolutely ridiculous). The Good: I'm from out of town, I wanted a ratchet yet classy Atlanta vibe- I got it at the compound. The crowd was mixed 20s-30s. Music was pretty good, he played music that's popular today. I like the throw backs. The Bad: we called to find out the dress code. Dressed accordingly. Got there and the security guard said 2 people out of our group of six couldn't get in because their shoes didn't have backs on them. This wasn't told to us when we called. We also saw SEVERAL people with backless shoes. We were told to 'grease the palm' of the next guards hand to be allowed in. We were there for a bachelorette weekend. We had matching shirts and I'm sure we were preyed on due to that, we were clearly from out of town The two ladies had to pay $20 each 'to grease his palm', in addition to the $20 cover charge. We were told to arrive before 11 to get in for $10. We stood in a line of about 30-40 people for about 45 minutes. At 10:55 the line started moving. When we got to the front it was after 11. There were only maybe 80 people in the club. And the club is HUGEEEE. Price gouging. It was cold but we found a table outside to smoke hookah. Hookah was good. Men and women share 1 bathroom. Weird. How Compound is "world famous" is beyond me! I just don't get why club owners are so insistent on turning night clubs into "sit clubs." Compound is a large club. I was there for Super Bowl weekend and it was packed with people. However, it wasn't "lit."--unless your idea of lit is people standing on couches and looking at one another. Once again, a massive night club has been eaten up by sections. The dance floor is basically like a big hall way located in between 2 sections in the main room. And unless you're V.I.P. you can't access the entire club which looked to me to just be more sections located down in a large room by the DJ booth. With some renovations, this club could be special, because they have plenty of room available. They just need to remove one or even both of those sections in the main room to extend the dance floor. It just makes zero sense for a club to be that large and yet the dance floor be so small, and the atmosphere suffers because of it. To me, Compound did not live up to the hype. It was grossly overrated. On the bright side, the DJ was on point, and the patio area is a keeper. If they step that dance floor game up that patio area will come in handy, so people could go outside and go cool off. But based on how the club is set up now, you won't even break a sweat in Compound. My expectations were high. I just knew it was gonna go down in the "world famous" Compound, but the set up let me down. read more

As a person who's clubbed all over the world, this one rates pretty high on my list. But I do have several reasons why my impression might be a bit skewed or one sided. 1) I have several friends who work there as either sound and video techs, as well as bouncers and bartenders, and 2) I like all music and all crowds, and having worked in the industry myself I usually enjoy a good crowd and crazy time. Compound is a single club that has roughly 6 (sometimes 7 if they open the far back area) parts to it for people to mingle, talk, drink, or dance in, sometimes all 4 at once. Friday is Hosted by The popular hip hop station V-103 with Ryan Camron and Saturdays are now host of the top 40 station Q-100s Saturday Night Q w/ Adam Bomb, just some insight as to what kind of music you can expect, but by no means limited to. So let's take a tour! The First is Tenshi Gardens, host to the live bands, open air patio, small lit pond, and decent sitting area. Usually a band is there, otherwise they pump mainly house or more exotic chill and lounge here, however, later in the night music from MB1 is pumped out there as the people shift to fill in Ride at midnight. The Second area is MB1, also known as the crowded frond room, the glass steam room, etc. This is mainly a dance/lounge with bars on both sides, and due to poor planning, bathrooms on one side that kill some inflow traffic (Trust me, the owner hates it too). Here you can usually expect mash up house/top 40/hip hop/and other styles by a live DJ. Since Ride in the back opens at midnight, and often people don't know that it does, MB1 tends to fill fast before the night begins. On a brief note, there is a Private VIP room that resembles a Midtown expensive Bond style apartment bedroom (equipped with shower and cali king bed) called The Loft that rarely sees action, but for the sake of the review I will mention, it's cool, very weird for a club, and mostly used as a shortcut or meeting room for the club unless it's being rented. It's attached to MB1, next to the booth.... ok, moving on. The Fourth area is Ride Patio, it's self explanatory, but I'll explain anyway, this area opens just before they open Ride itself. Has 2 large bars, a fountain, some sitting areas, nothing too special, but gives a good area to chill, talk, refill on a drink, or get in a conversation with the person of interest you just met and tried to yell your phone number to on the dance floor earlier. This area can get really heavy when the whole club is busy as it gets the most traffic when Ride and MB1 are both full and people go back and fourth. Music here is piped in from Ride where the "main" floor is. The Fifth area, Ride is the back area, the "main" floor, the larger dance floor, and host to the main VIP tables and area as well. Ride has a large garage door entrance, as well as a smaller one off the side bar. This place fills fast when it opens, and plays host to the in crowd displays of the VIP, the main (and sometimes better) DJ, and the higher intensity sound and lighting system. With 16 (I think,, don't quote me on it) projector screens, and too many speakers to count, it's by far the most visually stimulating and exciting room of the club as well as the bigger sound system. Be prepared to be packed in around 1am on when the music is loud, the crowd is at full, and the energy is about at it's peak, this can shift to around 2 am during the active months (summer, spring and early fall). All in all Ride is the heart of Compounds dance and night club experience. Attached to the back, the Sixth area is a smaller room called the Bamboo Room. It is located just behind the Main DJ and VJ booth of Ride. Usually it is open to anyone that can get there, but on busy nights it is used as an additional VIP area for larger groups. Its not too special, has dim normal lighting and softer music still piped from Ride. The steel curtains and theme do create a nice space to chill from the main party and still see and hear Ride in full swing. The Seventh area, and rarely used, is called Rail. It's been used for large shows sometimes, as a concert venue, I have yet to see it used but once and even then it was a large private function. Other than that, it's just the name of the back lot! So there's Compound. If you want to park, be prepared to hunt, and it can get pricey unless you are sneaky and a little brave, or early. Cover is the usual $10 to $20 depending on the nightly events, and drinks are more or less the usual club prices from $5 to $12. It's a nice club, has several millions in tech and sound to keep it popular and up to date, and usually can turn out a great crowd even on the rainy cooler nights of fall and winter. So if you haven't gone, go, if I'm there and I know I'll slip ya in myself, unless it's not your scene, then by all means, get out there and find what you want, never settle for something you aren't comfortable in, but always have fun! I like hip-hop, open patios and socializing with professional young POC. I thought let me give this place a try- *sigh Got in line at 11 and bouncer wouldn't let anyone in. Dumbfounded I asked the girls in line and they clarified- promos are never honored and if rarely, you'd have to be in line at 10. I dipped after I realized their shtick. I actually had no reservations calling to a night! From what I observed in line, clientele was everything but Black Excellence. F*ckin litt! This is probably one of the best clubs/lounges I've been to. It was a really good vibe. We paid $23 to get in. The place is really spacious and has great lighting! You can be in the mix, at the bar and in sections. The music and drinks were good on both floors. If you're a lady, heads up that their bathroom is gender neutral. read more

COMPOUND is THE PLACE TO PARTY IN ATLANTA This is, in my opinion, the closest thing that Atlanta has to an internationally appreciated nightclub fixed with multiple dance floors featuring world class DJs. I've seen the sun rise over Sydney Harbor after a night of partying in celebrity filled clubs and have danced along the Mediterranean, and Compound is not far from world status. I suggest getting on the mailing list. That way you can RSVP for you and a friend on Friday nights and other special events to avoid the 20 dollar cover charge, which I have to admit is worth it if you plan to pay cover anywhere in Atlanta. There are the occasional fashion shows or celebrity sponsored events with Atlanta's finest producers and artists being featured guests. And you might be able to catch your favorite DJ on a tour. I've always had a good time at Compound and have only had to buy my drink once. Guys and girls are plentiful and all are hot. Dress code is enforced. And expect to stand in line if you get there past 11. It's probably the only nightclub I will stand in line for. read more

COMPOUND WAS LIT! IT WAS LIT!! Lol. I went to Compound during Pride weekend (Labor Day Weekend) on a Sunday, and I had the best time!! I'm pretty sure that because it was a different crowd, that was the reason why I had such a good time. I also celebrated my friend's birthday in a VIP section which also improves the experience. The DJ that night had everybody moving. He was so good!! Drinks were strong, and bottle service was swift. I also got to meet Erica Mena since her section was right next to ours lol. I hadn't had that much fun in Atlanta in a long while! I definitely would like to come back on a regular night to see if I'll still feel the same way. I will say, however, that the bathrooms were ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING THAT NIGHT. Somebody threw up on the floor, it smelled so bad, and because of the plethora of men that were in attendance, the women's bathroom was no longer sacred LOL. Went on a first Friday (high traffic for the LGBTQ community). GREAT EXPERIENCE! Love the sections and the bartenders. It was my first time and I will definitely return. Great size club! This was the highlight to my Atlanta Trip.... I am use to the DC nightlife so when I came to ATL I was expecting something similar or better than the norm in DC. Well Friday we went to a place called Esso in Atlanta and it was the worst club I been to in years.... Saturday we ended up trying this place out for our last hope of Atlanta.... We valet $40 and we paid the cut line $40.. because at this point we would have spent whatever just to have fun for our last time in Atlanta... As soon as I went in I had the time of my life... Drinks were strong ... VIP was nice and fun! Every level was different and exciting! The outside room is amazing! The Compound is one of the first clubs that I visited when I moved to Atlanta. It's very grown and sexy, the music is great and I always have a great time. You have to get here early or you will be standing in line. Ladies, if you bring flips flops they will make you throw them in a box before entering. Let the record show that I hate dance clubs with a level of passion that equates to the passionate intensity behind Rosie O'donell's love for Twinkies. That is a lot of hate ladies and gentleman. A whole lot. Despite my disdain for almost every dance club ever opened for business in Atlanta, somehow I managed to enjoy myself the last time I was at the Compound. I really did not enjoy the downstairs part of the Compound that you walk through upon entering the dance club. It is basically just one giant dance floor and bar area; however, the entire floor is filled with hot and sweaty dancing machines all aching for the opportunity to drop it like it is hot and tear the club up with some free style backside shaking. I found myself turning down dance invitations from several girls in my group multiple times. Why would you persist to ask a goofy white guy like myself to jump out on a floor and dance with a bunch of people who look like they spent their entire childhood mimicking moves they learned on the MTV's "the Grind." Okay now it is time for me to explain why I gave The Compound a four star rating. The Friday night that I hung out here I was with one of my buddies who proclaims himself to be "connected" with all of the right people in Atlanta. Because of his egotistical "connections" throughout the city, he was able to get us past the cliche velvet rope to the upstairs portion of the building that the Compound refers to as "The bamboo room." Despite my friend proclaiming this portion of the Compound being dedicated as VIP space only, I am willing to bet that it takes nothing more than a green piece of paper with Mr. George Washington on the front to get into this part of the club. I must admit, I kinda felt like a balla' and shot calla' when I was hanging out in the upstairs portion of the club. Leaning over the railing and looking down on crowded dance floor below, and then looking at the Bamboo room area that I was chillin at with my peeps and 20 or 30 other VIP's gave me a newly acquired "P-Diddy" mentality. This mentality grew worse and became more and more powerful with every fresh glass of redbull and vodka that I consumed throughout the course of the night. Okay, I may be giving a little bit of exaggeration and sarcasm to that last part paragraph of the review, but I am sure you get the idea about how nice I thought the Bamboo room was that night. It had a small lounge area that included long plush couches with fancy coffee tables in front of them which were adorned with nice little candles. The entire floor just had a vibe that would make any guest feel at home, but I am not sure if the upstairs part of the Compound is technically even considered a VIP section. read more

My friend flew into town and we decided to go here for the first time. Valet parking is $40 but luckily for us we found parking on the first left once you pass the front of the establishment. We waited for about 30 minutes entrance feed is $20. Very nice inside the chandeliers and view is great. We walked to the bar and I got Two regular mixed one Hennessy and the other ciroc overpriced it totaled $31 for both drinks. We got a hookah and it cost $40 the hookah was great! I got a second drink and all I tasted was juice and I asked at the bar if she could please remake my drink cause I didn't like it and she told me she couldn't do that. Ok?. This is a sexy nightclub! There are plenty of bars and plenty of space. I want to give it 5 stars but just cannot seem to do it. I don't club enough to really know a five star club. This is a big one though with what I believe to be 3 buildings all connected somehow. Lines can be long unless your dropping dollars for VIP. VIP is like 1/3 of the entire clubs size so get in if you fit in. It can get extremely crowded on certain nights. This is major celebrity hangout spot. Bottled water (Fiji) is $5. Drinks run from $9+. It is indoor/outdoor. There are 6 bars from my count so those lines are not bad. Not much else to say here. If you really want to go out and be amongst the in crowd, Compound has a long lasting rep in Atlanta just for that. FYI: Parking is pricey! Best to find some on the street @ no charge. read more

I gave Compound a 3 because they do provide great entertainment. I enjoyed seeing Chris Brown, Trey Songz listening party, and Jeezy and Rick Ross. The club itself is a horrible setup. Clearly just about profit, not the customer. It's a fairly large club with too many VIP sections. VIP seats in the middle of where the dance floor should be. With that being said, you are either pushed, smushed, and grinded on all night or shoved by security with lights in your face. I don't buy drinks here cause they are overpriced. Oh, and you get the pleasure of standing in line 1 - 2 hours if you rsvp or plan on paying $20. Parking is severely pricey. Just park 5 blocks away for free. I don't know about anyone else but I don't pay to play. I'm definitely not breaking my pockets to appear "important" for one night. One more important thing. If you rsvp and have been standing in line for a few hours but do not get to the front by 12 your rsvp is worthless. You will have to pay $20. If they reach their $20 quota for the night, you are then charged $40. read more

I've never really been into clubs, but I was always up for it if a group of my friends was set on going. I went to Compound 3 or 4 times, and it transformed my dislike of clubs into pure hatred and was the catalyst for my self-made vow to not go clubbing again. The whole 40-year-old-dude-grinding-up-on-you-from-behind-while-beads-of-his-sweat-fall-into-your-hair-as-you-become-nauseated-by-an-overwhelming-wave-of-cheap-cologne thing just doesn't appeal to me on a Saturday night. The two stars I'm giving Compound are for it's size - because it was so huge, I was able to escape the involuntary grinding fairly quickly. It's so spread out that you will lose the group you came with if you don't stay together. Anyways, what really turned me off about this place was the crowd. Some people have called it "diverse", but I beg to differ. I felt very out of place and didn't see a variety of people there at all. I'll admit that I don't think I could ever give any club 5 stars, but this one was sketchier than most. The lines were really long every time I went, and the cover was always high. I went to Compound, for a special event and the only reason I would go. It appears regardless of what night it is, they like to hold the line. I gather this because I have friends on the outside saying the line is long, while me on the inside is looking at tons of space to let people in. The place is huge with an outdoor and indoor section which is really cool. They have a bunch of bars all over the place. The bathroom is large so even with it being crowded I got a stall quickly. Parking in the area sucks. They block off adjacent streets and charge people to park on the street. Yea. That. Happens. Its a club, your experience will vary on the night. read more

This review is very delayed. I went to Compound back in October for Q100s Big Wicked. Based on other reviews we tried to park "far" and still ended up paying $30 for parking Being from NY I expect that but seriously $30, and we got there late like after 12am... Our Big Wicked tickets were only $20... If you do choose to "value" park ladies travel in a pack b/c the venue is kinda in a desolate industrail area. Now, anyone who's in their partying years (21-35, maybe) has most likely been to Compound. When I loved here back in 2005, this was the place to be. Now, apparently there's been some renovations and some changes to the layout, and its pretty obvious. The venue is gorgeous. Compound is a nightclub set over a sprawling area in West Midtown. Very modern, very sexy, had a great time. The bartenders were hot, and the drinks were great, as were the people who were in attendance. Now, I did visit over the Labor Day weekend, and there was a very specific party going on there, so, I can't speak on the clientele on a normal weekend night, but as for that particular weekend, it was awesomesauce. read more

As far as clubs in ATL go, this ranks pretty low. The line for the only bathroom is ridiculously long. Also, we went on New Year's Eve and they just DON'T do coat check that night? it really wasn't much fun holding our coats the entire time (after waiting outside forever just to get in) To make matters worse, we were standing under the only net of balloons that didn't release at midnight but rather 20 minutes later after everyone gave up staring at them in anticipation (it's kind of amusing now, sigh) The music wasn't all that great, and I didn't really have a good time. Finally, a club that doesn't try to cram everybody into a room smaller than a jail cell! Oh wait, you mean they also play a variety of songs and hire good DJs? There are multiple locations to snag a beer or a shot? All right, Compound... you win. It's not always open (from what I can tell) but the Halloween party here is a blast. TONS of people, yet there's so much room to walk around in that you never feel pushed around. The dance floors can become a little packed in, but you never feel like that guy behind you is up on your junk trying to cop a feel - he's too busy dancing in his own space!
