Good service and relaxing atmosphere. Service and atmosphere: As mentioned above haha. Our server was friendly and helpful. The restaurant has good seaside vibe. There are plenty of seating options on the patio where they also have opened bar area. The restaurant can accommodate many guests inside too. Food and drinks: Good selection of seafood dishes. I opted for wild caught salmon. The fish was cooked and seasoned well. We also chose sandwich with crab which was equally tasty. They offer great variety of cocktails. Pricing: $$ - definitely not overpriced and worth it.

Location is right on the water. Sit outside if you can for the great view. They have funny stools. They had a fun drink menu. Dog friendly patio. There were a few local cats hanging around asking for food. They didn't mess with us or our dog. Kept seagulls away. Very chill place. Including the service. lol. Service was slow but we enjoyed the food. Started with crawfish queso, so good and huge chunks of crawfish. My husband got a watermelon margarita and really loved it. He also got the catch of the day with green beans and sweet potato fries. I got blackened salmon on Alfredo. It was good but I could barely finish it. So full!

What's left of my calamari & crab cake Romalade sauce we also had a sweet chili dip ( yummy )

Love this place. Looking for a fun place to go eat, drink and check out the sea this is your place. The food is yummy, the beer is always cold, it's huge so you can almost always get a place to sit and the mixed drinks are great. I've haven't yet visited when there is live music but I've heard it can be quite a party. Can't wait to try that out. We ordered the fried flounder sandwich, the blackened redfish and a grilled redfish and everything we ate was amazing. Highly recommend the catch of the day. Will definitely be back soon.

I sure learned my lesson here to really believe the Yelp reviews...but figuring everyone deserves a chance we stopped by Moondog to form our own opinions. They were, unfortunately, not good. As mentioned, service was s-l-o-w. Being at the beach, this isn't typically an issue as you are there for the ambiance and a cold drink right? That is, unless the cold drink takes 15 minutes to arrive and...isn't cold. We also asked our server what was in the Texas Mule that makes it "Texas" and he replied "I actually have no idea." Dear reader, it is a regular mule with Tito's vodka. Still holding onto hope, we placed our orders and wondered if we would be eating it for lunch, or dinner by the time it showed up. The food arrived and we dove in, starving enough to eat (almost) anything. Off the bat, the loaded baked potato which I was assured came with sour cream and butter was lacking on both. Thus, dry, I asked our server for some condiments twice before he brought them out and I was nearly done. The ketchup he promised never arrived. The sandwich was ok, but nothing to write home about, as was the soft shell crab. For the amount of time it took to come out, I was so hoping for some intense elbow grease homemade dishes - but they were unfortunately very obviously either pre-prepared and frozen items and things that took nearly zero effort to throw together. A pretty big dissapointment compared to all the other places I have tried in Rockport, which is a shame because the location and environment are the kind that would make you want to hang around for a few hours (as long as it was by choice).

A stray black cat roaming freely around the tables in Moondog Seaside Eatery.

Stray cats, terrible service, and a mandatory tip they wouldn't honor I had high hopes for Moondog Seaside Eatery, based on Google Maps (I know, my bad!), but this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. Health and safety: Several stray cats were freely roaming in and around the dining tables and eating leftovers during active food service. This isn't a charming beach-town quirk -- it's a violation of basic food safety standards. Animals (aside from service animals or leashed dogs in designated outdoor patio areas) aren't permitted in food establishments under Texas health code, for good reason. Service: We waited for 80 minutes for our food (nothing like a Michelin style masterpiece, but simple fish and chips and mac and cheese they typically serve). When it finally arrived, part of our order was missing. The waiter initially blamed us for the mistake -- until she checked her own notes and saw we'd ordered correctly all along. No apology, just moved on. Food: Honestly not good, and not worth the wait or the price regardlesss of everything else that went wrong. The mandatory tip: Our party was 6+, so a 20% tip was automatically added -- no matter how bad the service was. When we asked about removing or reducing it given the hour-long wait and order mix-up, we were told no. A manager (or someone who represented themselves as one) said it's actually up to the individual server whether to enforce the 20%, despite it being printed on the menu as a flat policy. So apparently the "mandatory" tip is mandatory unless your server feels like waiving it -- which makes no sense and felt like a bait-and-switch. Between the animals roaming the dining room, the service issues, and a tip policy that isn't actually enforced the way it's advertised, I can't recommend this place.

We were lucky to get the last serving of their evening special, Paella, which was among the best versions of this dish I have eaten, even including the first time I tried it in Barcelona back in 1959 as a college student. The portion was generous enough to satiate the five of us that shared it. With that, we added Corn Ribs, the Tuna Tostada, Patatas Bravas, and Crab Crostini. That was the perfect quantity for five. This is a five star restaurant in every regard, except perhaps for ambiance. The food was uniformly excellent and some of it was exceptional. The Tuna Tostada left me longing for more, and there was a generous amount of crab on the Crostini. The Corn Ribs brought corn-on-the-cobb to a new level. The one disappointment was that the salmon in the salad came out medium rare, which in my opinion is the way is should be served, but the menu probably should have warned that it would be prepared that way. This was cheerfully and quickly fixed, so no harm and no foul. We will surely return.

TLDR: Waterfront seafood restaurant (often busy, with a long wait for dinner) with delicious food…read more(still thinking about the pecan snapper and key lime pie). Good kids menu with the option to add protein (chicken or carnitas). This place exceeded my expectations. I did set them fairly low considering this is a touristy waterfront type of restaurant. FOOD: Delicious food here! Large menu too. Good clam chowder -- I only got a small cup but it was generously clammy. My grilled shrimp was good but usually most places can get that right. The asparagus side was cooked just right -- still had that crisp to it. However, the show stealer was hubby's pecan snapper. It was a big portion. The fish was also thick with a nice thin breading. Really dang good. I don't often grab dessert but I'm a fan of key lime pie -- their version did not disappoint. Delicious. KIDS FOOD: One of the best kids menus I've seen in a while. They've got a few deep fried options (chicken, fish, shrimp, corn dogs) as well as not fried (grilled cheese or mac and cheese). The part that really stood out was the option to add chicken, carnitas, or bacon to the mac and cheese. I got my son the mac and cheese with chicken on the side and they brought a large plate of chicken! It was delicious diced chicken too -- my son loved it! It was great to have a kid-friendly protein option since it's always fried junk or carbs galore. I should also add that the mac and cheese was real macaroni with melted cheese on top (not that fake goopy boxed type mac and cheese). They offer crayons and coloring paper to keep kids occupied while they wait. WAIT: I see a lot of negative reviews for the long wait. I mean -- it's a popular place, should you really hold that against them? I would probably avoid this spot for dinner on a weekend for this reason. We came for lunch on a Saturday (midday). There was no wait and we got a window table (we requested one). VIBE: Exactly what I wanted. Nice view of the water -- saw lots of fishing boats go by, a cool bird, and even a dolphin! The place is large and full of people but it's also pretty spacious with enough room between tables. SERVICE: Friendly and pretty attentive. BATHROOM: Cool chalkboard walls where you can leave your thoughts. There were some charmingly positive sentiments written in my stall. PARKING: Limited spots right outside of the restaurant but there is a large lot where people park their boats next door. No issue finding a spot there (early Saturday afternoon).

I'm actually not sorry to leave a negative review, but this was one of the most disappointing…read moredining experiences we've had. Don't go unless you're prepared to wait FOREVER. We arrived around 8:00 p.m. and waited about 45 minutes to an hour just to be seated. Once we were finally seated, we ordered a dozen oysters, three waters, two cocktails, and mac and cheese for our daughter. The drinks finally came, but they were incredibly weak. The biggest disappointment was the mac and cheese--it tasted like plain boxed Kraft macaroni, which was shocking for a restaurant. We placed our dinner order and then waited another hour and 45 minutes without receiving any food. By this point, it was 10:30 p.m., and our daughter had already finished eating and was exhausted. Our waiter, Kalen, was actually very polite, energetic, and apologetic throughout the night. He kept checking in and apologizing for the kitchen delays, so I don't blame him, he could have had an upper hand- and gotten aggressive and made an impact on timing. Unfortunately, after waiting nearly 2 1/2 hours from the time we arrived, we still never received our meals. My husband had to go to the front twice to cancel our order because we finally gave up and left hungry. The waiter again was nice but he could have done more and the manager competed our water and our daughters Mac and cheese. When we walked out - she had the audacity to give us a sad face - maybe you should have thought about your feelings while trying to get our food. It was truly a disgusting and horrible experience. We understand restaurants get busy, but waiting that long without food or any meaningful communication is unacceptable. We won't be returning. Other tables were being sat after us and actually left while we were still waiting that had received their food and paid. Extremely disappointed and will NEVER GO BACK.
