Ordered moonbowls for delivery for the first time tonight. We had a lovely experience! We were looking for something healthy as easy on the stomach and we were not disappointed. The delivery app had a special on this store- their bbq chicken bowl was buy one get one free. I had mine on rice with sweet potatoes, corn salad, and broccoli and my boyfriend had his on rice with double cucumbers and broccoli. The chicken was seasoned PERFECTLY, and really tasty! I need that bbq sauce! Our broccoli was crisp and fresh, and my sweet potatoes were well roasted. My boyfriend got each and I got the creamy sesame saice and loved it! I was a bit disappointed in the corn salad I chose. It was just corn. Don't ge the wrong it was fresh and delicious but I don't know what made it a corn salad because it wasn't dressed at all or mixed with anything. The other reason I didn't give 5 stars is because we got a great deal on this order but I do think the price point is a tad high for the portion size esp with the amount of protein given, which I wish I had gotten more of. I was really excited to try Moonbowls because I was in the mood for something healthy, and Moonbowls just looked so delicious! I was surprised to see how expensive it was though. The base bowl isn't too bad, although on the pricier side. But if you want to make any customizations, it's a certain amount per ingredient which can add up fast. I wish either the base bowls came with a little more variety, or you could customize like 3 extra ingredients for a certain price. When my bowl arrived, it wasn't the prettiest thing, but that doesn't matter as much as long as it tasted good. It's pretty much a take out place where there's a couple restaurants that share space for deliveries and you order and then pick up from designated lockers. There was a pretty decent amount of parking so not a struggle to pick up like some places and food is ready within about 15 minutes. Found a great deal on Uber eats and have tried the sesame surprise bowl with sesame white rice and Korean hot chicken with brown rice. Easy fairly healthy options that fill you up without making you feel like you need a nap afterwards. Kinda reminiscent of an Asian chipotle/cava with similar pricing. Sesame Surprise: Good combination of flavors and a perfect lunch, except they forgot the dried seaweed. Hot Chicken: Also a nice lunch/dinner option and I would never have thought pineapple worked in this type of bowl but it does! All were extremely delicious and we were so happy to have some healthier options and vegetarian dishes to choose from. I was so surprised by the avocado bulgogi bowl. The impossible meat tasted pretty much like real meat. It was so similar that I wondered if maybe I had gotten real beef! Even my meat-eater boyfriend was surprised. The portion sizes pretty sizeable and I definitely could not finish it all in one sitting. The cauliflower wings were not as wing-like as we thought they might be or as they seemed in the pictures. Great food, good customer service and ordering experiences. Not sure why the reviews are so shoddy. I've ordered twice from them in the last two weeks via delivery services and each time my order has been delicious, correct, and good portion sizes (I.e., the bowl was full). Both times, I ordered 2-3 things off the menu and ALL of it was correct and on point. Also, I really appreciate all of the healthy vegan options. The food is good, and in terms of seasoning, they really shine with their sauces, and there are plenty to choose from. (If you're someone who likes a lot of sauce, they also give you the option to order extra sauce, so something else not necessary to complain about). They literally have the BEST vegan ranch dressing I have ever tasted! If their food had a lot of seasoning, and then on top of that you're using the sauces, to me that's too much and that's why every other person in this country has high blood pressure and diabetes. As for the cost, a bowl costs about $15, which is pretty standard for this type of food. I don't know what people are talking about it costing $50 for two people or $20 per person, unless you get a bunch of extra toppings, then, duh, of course, it's going to cost you more. But they have quite a few options that come with lots of stuff in them so you don't NEED to do that. And it's not like they sneakily charge you on the backend, it's very transparent when you order that the additional toppings will cost extra. SO, I will say, this is really a great place. I thought the chicken was pretty good and flavorful. A few issues: I ordered brown rice, but I'm pretty sure I got white rice. Not the worst thing in the world but still disappointing. The portions for the most part were large, although, I expected more than 4 tiny florets of broccoli when I added it on. The potstickers were...odd. It says they're pan fried and maybe at one point they were. But these were crunchy, dry and powdery, like they were baked and maybe then sat out for a long time. Flavor wise, they weren't good. The avocado bulgogi didn't have tons of flavor, which surprised me given all the ingredients. I got brown rice and the rice was old and hard. I was kind of disappointed at the amount of kale in the bowl. It was such a tiny amount. The broccoli I added was undercooked and dry. A few bites in and the bowl was hard to eat. It just wasn't good and didn't taste fresh. Also everything was like warm at best. The spicy avocado bowl was the same. Nothing special and lacking flavor. My husband thought it tasted like a microwave meal. For a $21 bowl with the additions, I'd expect more. All in all, we won't be back. Had high hopes but it was just okay. We ordered one build your own bowl ($15), one side of roasted broccoli with ginger garlic sauce ($10), and one avocado bulgogi bowl ($15). For some reason, the last item was rung in as a meat lover's bowl ($16), but it wasn't a big deal because my husband liked it. My build-your own bowl had broccoli, citrus-marinated kale, tofu, green onion, peanuts, and sesame seeds on sweet potato noodles with Korean BBQ sauce. The noodles are a $2 up-charge. It was fine, and I appreciate that it was relatively healthy, but it wasn't particularly flavorful. Oddly, the kale did not taste of citrus, and I couldn't really taste any sauce. Also the broccoli was a little tough-it seemed like it had been cooked and reheated. I had a taste of the broccoli side, and while it was better than the broccoli on my bowl, it was just okay and a little soft from sitting in the sauce. On the plus side, the food was delivered pretty quickly and there was good communication re: the delivery. I really wanted to like this more, but I'm afraid I must agree with other reviewers that the price, coupled with the just okay food, was a bit disappointing. For those two dinners and a side once delivery fees and a tip were added it cost $55 (stupidly I forgot to use my 20% off my first order coupon). That would've been a bit better pricewise. What a weird, depressing experience this place was. Tonight was one of my last nights in Austin, and I was in the mood for some healthy Asian food. Perhaps not performing my due diligence I simply got in the car and drove to Moonbowls, thinking it was a local restaurant that would fit the bill. Instead what I pulled up to was some sort of food "facility" where Doordash, Grub Hub, and Uber Eats drivers pick up meals for various corporate chains. There was no store front, or even signage for Moonbowls, and the only way to place your order was through an app. During this dystopian experience they also attempt to mine your data by having you sign up for various marketing lists, dangling "free" bowls in front of you as your prize. This is, apparently, the future. Sad, profit maximized, Amazon esque warehouses churning out piles of cheap protein for faceless consumers through an app. Moonbowls in particular is owned by a virtual restaurant group named Salted, a start up with deep pockets who manages several other "ghost kitchens" that specifically target the millennial crowd. Not exactly a feel good story. The food meanwhile tasted exactly how you would imagine - generic mush that was focus grouped and slapped together to appeal to their demographic. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good either. It felt like I was eating the mediocre, soulless slop that will inevitably be served to most of the country as silicone valley encroaches more and more in to every town in America. The profits will be FANTASTIC, at least. Of course I'm not claiming to be above eating at a corporate food chain (In N Out I'll be seeing you next week), but those places at least have SOME semblance of a personality. Giving this 5 stars but with one caveat. First of all the food was amazing. Everything was fresh and well prepared with great presentation and thoughtful packaging. Interesting and flavorful ingredients and much appreciated meatless options that didn't feel like dishes meant for meat but with just the meat taken away. I have no complaints on the food. I did a build your own bowl with avocado and impossible beef and the ginger soy sauce. Tasted great. However, the star of the show was the Korean BBQ cauliflower "wings". They were just amazing. One of the best things I have eaten in a long time. The kimchi cauliflower fried rice was also good though this was my least favorite of the 3. My only caveat for this place is the price. It's insanely expensive IMO. My build your own bowl was 20 dollars which seems excessive for what you get. The wings were 12 dollars. For cauliflower? I do appreciate that the food was fresh and high quality but come on. The cost is a bit much.. especially when you add in delivery costs. I got 3 items and with delivery it was above 50 dollars. I'm not docking any stars but I do feel like the cost is going to be prohibitive for many people and I definitely won't eat here as much because it's so expensive.
