Stumbled upon this place whike traveling. This place is a hidden gem!!! The server was attentive, the food was phenomenal and the inside is very nice. Do not let the delapated look on the outside scare you off. This is the place to go if you like Thai. The spicy noodles were on point, the fried rolls were YUMMY!!, the peanut salad was phenomenal and even the chicken and shrimp dumpling soup was great (aside from the broth being so salty, maybe they use MSG??) Stopped in for lunch during the weekday before a meeting at local hospital. I was with two peers and we were looking for a place to grab good chow and get some work done. Hostess set us up in a back room, nice quiet work space. Very appreciated. Ordered veggie rolls and dumplings, both came out quick and were excellent. I had the tofu spicy noodles, Thai hot with less oil. Great spice, not oily. Would have like more veggies but it was tasty. Good place, I will return. Nice people, good food, good prices. read more

I went here with one of my girlfriends, we both have never been to this spot before so we decided to give it a shot. However, I got chicken pad Thai and it was not that great. So I had a terrible taste in my mouth. I had to box it up (I didn't want to ask for it re-cooked because I'm not a rude person) and I got the sweet and sour chicken which was pretty good. Overall 3/5 because I feel like they can work on there customer service as well. The waitress never asked if we wanted any drinks besides water, and wasn't that friendly. Real Thai Food in this little hidden gem. The service is just as good as the food. Overall just great!

Upon sitting, they gave us a glass of ice water, a side dish of rice, and a small tasty salad. Unlike most restaurants, they didn't really ask us to order a drink, that's separate. You get water, and that's it. I had to ask if I could have some Thai tea. I wanted to try Thai coffee, but they didn't have any because almost no one orders it usually, so it was explained to me. All other drinks were alcoholic basically, on their drink menu. They offer martinis, for example, or beer from Thailand. I was not interested in going there to drink. Not my cup of tea. I wanted food and non-alcoholic drink. If you want a soft drink, or if you want to try Thai tea or coffee, you have to ask for it directly. They did not directly offer me anything to drink besides the immediate water, which they made sure I never lacked. I was lucky and got tea. It's delicious, worth the entire visit. You can get it in a take-out cup as well, to go. Fabulous, and convenient. The Thai duck with curry was okay, but I would rather have had the "Lamb Delight," to be honest. My brother was there, he had the lamb delight. A way tastier sauce, in my opinion. I didn't know what to try, so I chose the duck. Not bad, I suppose, but not stellar or memorable, either. Just neutral. I would choose lamb next time. They are the same price, around $15. I felt that it became super busy really quickly. I asked them for dessert. They told me they didn't currently have it. I hope they bring it back. I don't know about you, readers, but a visit to a nice restaurant without dessert just doesn't seem complete to me. Our waitress was friendly, very helpful, attentive, and kind. I'm really happy that the service was so good there. The people are awesome, but the food was "just okay," to be totally honest. It wasn't bad, either. Please don't get me wrong, but for $15 the portion was small and kind of just okay. I hope to be back, 'cause I really want dessert still. Lol. Came in tonight to meet some friends halfway for dinner and was not disappointed! The owner and his wife do a great job, and the service was wonderful! The Thai iced tea was delicious, I got the crispy garlic pork which was very crispy, and flavorful! My partner got the pineapple fried rice which they said was delicious, and our friends got soup and basil chicken which they also said was great. I loved this little place! If you are looking for a cozy, cute little spot for an excellent Thai meal and great service, don't pas it up. I was on a work trip and stayed at The Bee Hotel (awesome, btw) but got into town late. It was rainy and cold and this place looked like something out of an old movie from the road. The entrance doesn't look like a restaurant entrance at all so don't be fooled by that! The food was amazing and so was the service. Super clean, cozy, great for a romantic date night! I come to Danville a few times a year on business. I am happy to say, finally, I found something tasty here! In respect to transparency, I need to say I am biased toward Thai; I love it. I was for lunch, I noticed a snapper special that was on the board I asked if that would be available at lunch time and I was told that the fryer had just been cleaned and the oil was not hot so they wouldn't be able to serve it now. The lunch menu offered noodle dishes a variety of curries and some of your basic stir fried entrees. I ordered the basil with shrimp. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that lunch comes with cigar roll and some type of chicken stock lemongrass mashed rice soup that was delicious. My entree was wonderful, good heat, good flavor, I'll be back. I will add the peeled and deveined schrimpies, were a lil skimpies, kinda small, which led to an easy overcooking, kinda tough. A little bit of surprise in the middle of Virginia Danville. We were heading back to Richmond from a volunteer trip when we happened on this restaurant. Pleasantly surprised. The decor was ethnic and inviting. The first thing we noticed was a fishy smell when we walked in but it dissipates as your nose gets used to it. We got a salad with peanut sauce with our order -- my favorite! Drunken noodles and curry were well done. Spiced appropriately and very filling. Happy to have experienced Thai in Danville. read more

Their Thai Basil w/chicken (Pad Gra Pao Gai) ranked at the top of my all-time Thai food experiences. I asked for the traditional fried egg on top of my food and it came out perfectly. And it was served with a side of fish sauce w/chilis (nam pla prig). They even offered to make Thai dishes that aren't on the menu if there was something I'd like. Our lunch came out with a spring roll and very mild version of the traditional rice porridge soup (Thai Congee / Jok). The soup was a bit more reminiscent of a chicken broth with pureed rice, rather than all of the normal herbal additions...but it was still good. It's also perfect for people who are newer to Thai food. I have to admit I am always a little hesitant when I eat Thai food in areas where the local population may have a limited understanding of authentic Thai. Sometimes the overly Americanized Thai places can receive stellar reviews even though they aren't really Thai at all. The great thing is that they seem very willing to make either the true (authentic) version or taper it down for folks who aren't quite as comfortable with Thai. The service was great and the inside of the restaurant was nicely decorated. The area outside the restaurant isn't a place you'd want to take a stroll, but that is sometimes the case when you find a gem like this. The prices are also very inexpensive for stateside Thai food. I've eaten Thai in probably 50 different restaurants, I'm a bit obsessed with the cuisine. This place definitely makes my top 10. The caveat being, I have only tried one dish so far...but I'll edit/update this review once I get a chance to go back in the next week or so. My only critique, the rice may have been very slightly overcooked / too soft. But, not a big enough deal to lose a star for. read more

Native Danvillians will tell you that amazing non-chain restaurants are few and far between in this tiny city. So, you can imagine my surprise when Moon River Thai popped up on my Yelp app when driving around town with my sister. Not only were we surprised to hear of a new restaurant, but a Thai place... in Danville? Nevertheless, we ventured out to N. Main St to give this new spot a go. We arrived and were greeted by a friendly host who was happy to show us to a booth up front. They handed us menus and filled our water glasses, before serving us some amazing complimentary coconut soup (with a veggie version for my sister), the perfect thing for this cold day. Complimentary spring rolls followed, and I knew that I was in love with this place! My sister and I both ordered curries. I got the red one and she got another one that started with an M (but we can't remember what it's called). Both curries were delicious, and thanks to our appetizers, we both had leftovers for dinner. My husband and I stopped in for dinner last night and we were blown away by how incredible the food was here! The woman serving us was incredibly nice and attentive, the food was amazing and the atmosphere was something you wouldn't expect out of a Danville restaurant!
