Went back to Basil Thai for a work lunch, this time a little later in the day around 2 PM. The place was quiet and almost empty, which made for a peaceful dining experience. Service was incredibly fast, and the food was just as reliable as ever. I had the chicken Pad Thai, ordered medium hot, though in hindsight I could've gone for Thai hot--it still had a bit of sweetness to it that I'd love to balance out with more heat. Their egg roll and soup were as refreshing as always--light, flavorful, and a great way to start the meal. The location is super convenient, with ample parking available, which is always a plus during busy workdays. The restaurant itself is clean, calm, and has a welcoming interior that makes it easy to relax and take a breather in the middle of a hectic schedule. The kind, attentive service adds to the experience, making Basil Thai one of my go-to lunch spots.

We showed up at 220 on a Saturday and didn't realize until we were leaving that they close at 3 on Saturday. I feel bad for not checking the hours first but our food and service were spectacular. Our orders came with some soup and a vegetable spring roll. I'm not wild about spring rolls in general but these were well cooked, super crispy. The soup was a little bit too spicy for me but my husband loved it. The crab Rangoon appetizer was the absolute best! I could have eaten 3 orders! They were stuffed full and so perfectly fried. I would recommend! My husband got the basil fried rice and really liked it. I also liked my meal. I got the pad see ew with beef.

Celebrated my wife's birthday last week by checking o it a "new to us" Thai spot. We are by this spot often for Monday run club, but never get the chance to try it, since they aren't open on Mondays. So my wife requested we go on a Sunday evening and give it a try. We were greeted and quickly seated as soon as we walked in. The menu was large and very extensive, containing a lot of sushi, hibachi and Thai options. To start we got an order of calamari, which surprised us when it came out as large chunks, rather than the more standard rings. They were tasty though and came with a spicy Mayo and a sweet and sour sauce for dipping, both of which were great with the calamari. For my entree I got my go to, yellow chicken curry, which was great, and large portions. I ended up having a good bit left, and brought home, cooked up more rice and had a lunch for the next day. Overall, we enjoyed it. The service was good, food came out quickly and was full of flavor, and price was a little high, but in line with other Thai in the area. The restaurant is very bright and full of natural light. Definitely worth checking out, just not on Mondays

A gem in High Point! I tried the Eggplant Stir Fry, and it was delicious! The eggplant was perfectly cooked--tender with just the right amount of bite--and was coated in a savory sauce that had a slight sweetness to it. It was loaded with fresh veggies that added a nice crunch, and it paired beautifully with the fluffy jasmine rice. I also ordered the Chicken Pad Thai, which did not disappoint. The noodles were cooked just right, and the flavors were well-balanced, with a hint of tanginess from the tamarind and a subtle nuttiness from the crushed peanuts on top. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the dish was garnished with fresh green onions and a slice of lime that brightened the whole plate. Whether you're craving Thai or sushi, The Basil Leaf has something to satisfy everyone. This place has definitely earned a spot in my favorites, and I can't wait to come back and try more dishes!

High Point is home to so many Thai restaurants that even a Thai/sushi combo isn't unique here. Amid such competition, it is hard to stand out though The Basil Leaf certainly gives it a good try. Though not a large space, The Basil Leaf doesn't lack for seating. The ambiance aims for classy without being stuffy and largely succeeds. Service was attentive throughout our meal. The Basil Leaf's menu features a variety of Japanese (appetizers, sushi, and teriyaki/hibachi entrees) and Thai (appetizers, soups, salads, curries, noodles, and more) offerings. There were no unexpected finds, but if you know the cuisine well enough to know what you want, you'll likely find it here. I had a Pad Thai craving and, my wife and I ended up going with a chicken Pad Thai, a beef pineapple fried rice, and a Crab Rangoon starter. The food was tasty (good amount of sauce on the noodles and sweetness balanced with curry notes in the fried rice), and The Basil Leaf will match your desired spice level. While the plating aims for aesthetic sophistication (i.e. carrots cut into a flower shape), serving the rice in a rectangular block was an odd touch. Both entrees were generously portioned. At $15 and $17, neither broke the bank though the prices are a bit higher than the nearest competitor. All told, The Basil Leaf isn't likely to become my favorite Thai eatery, but it is one that I would feel no qualms about coming back to.

Great sushi and Thai spot in High Point! It gets bonus points for being in the same shopping center as Sweet Dough and Duck Donuts too. The food comes out fast and the servers are very friendly. We ordered hibachi and several sushi rolls along with a couple of classic Thai dishes (Pad Thai and Sweet & Sour Crunchy Chicken). Everything was hot and fresh and very flavorful. Definitely will be coming back soon!

Whenever I'm near Greensboro and am in the mood for sushi or Thai, I will make a stop at The Basil Leaf. The service is always great and, when the weather is nice you can sit outside. The indoor seating is nice as well, but I personally love sitting outside to enjoy a meal. Speaking of the meal, yes please! The pad Thai is the BOMB!! The curry - all of them - are amazing!! The sushi is always CHEF KISS good!! If you work in the area, it is a perfect spot to pick up lunch or meet coworkers. The service is fast but the food is still quality. If you're out with friends looking to sit and chat for a longer period, they won't rush you. You are welcome to come in in a rush or come in to chill - either way, it's great! Ooo it's also a pretty solid date night spot - it's served as a first date spot for me. Granted, the food was WAY better than the date, but I still walked away full and happy!

Basil Leaf is one of my fav Thai spots in the High Point area and I can't believe it took time this long to try their sushi!! Typically I grab the orange chicken, fried rice, or curry dishes from here but I made in the mood for some sushi. I got the sunset roll which consisted of shrimp tempura, avocado, and cream cheese. As a new sushi lover, I still get nervous trying new rolls but this one was amazing. The 8-piece roll was more than enough and was a decent price so I was overall very satisfied. Our server, Danielle, was friendly and helped with sharing some of her menu favorites. The space is overall nice with big windows and lots of tables. I recommend this spot if you're in the area and looking for some good Asian fusion and Thai food!

I have tried several different rolls and every single one has been delicious. This is a must try for sushi lovers! This visit we ordered the Ginger Chicken, Drunken Noodles with Chicken and The Hot Mango Roll. The restaurant is quaint and clean. The servers are friendly and welcoming. I really like Basil Leaf, it's different and special.

Always fresh food and excellent service when I come to this location. We always stuff ourselves and it was nice to receive a complimentary appetizer before our meal. Will always return back for some bangin sushi

Cute little Thai restaurant- we have been here many times. Service is good. All of the food was great, but one meal came out quite a bit later than the others. No cold sake on this visit- they were completely out. Sad face.

The Basil Leaf is a good go to spot for sushi in High Point. Their menu has quite a few options from classic Thai dishes, lots of raw and cooked sushi options, and those hibachi dishes that are really popular in the south. I have tried a few of their dishes but prefer their sushi! It's usually super fresh and their special rolls are really well done. All entrees come with their appetizer which includes one of their soups and a mini spring roll! During the winter, try their yummy yellow curry dish for a warm and cozy treat!

Since then, the half price sushi hours are no longer in effect, replaced with more standardized lunch specials and combinations. Three basic rolls for x, two specialty rolls for x, etc... as well as specials on hot food and the like. Due to this, I just haven't found myself there very often, and until my experience last week it had probably been two or three years honestly. We came during lunch hours on a Saturday. The lunch specials are good every day, not just weekdays, so that is a good thing. Ordering was simple enough, still done at the counter, given a number, go have a seat. Drinks still self-serve, no wait staff or the like which is totally fine. We ordered a general tso's chicken combination with fried rice and an egg roll, a basic two roll combination of sweet potato tempura and Ro Roll, and a two speciality roll combination that I honestly cannot remember the specific names of. There were also crab rangoons. My first area of dismay, even though we were eating there, everything came in to-go containers creating a ton of trash and waste. Plastic utensils, cups, everything. This was not the case in the past. I guess they've done the financial math that it's cheaper than dishwashing, but it's terrible for our environment. It would have been better if things even came combined on paper plates than this. As to the food, we were disappointed. Nothing other than the sushi and maybe soup appears to be made there, definitely true for all fried things. Rangoons came with plain duck sauce. Egg rolls the size of your index finger. Sushi wise, the sweet potato tempura roll was the best of the bunch. The fish tasted fine, nothing off putting there, but also nothing pleasant. The flavor combos just didn't make me want to eat more... and they were all crammed into to-go sushi trays with dry horseradish ("wasabi") It is not common for me to leave sushi pieces for the trash, but I did this time. Ultimately, the things that used to draw me here just didn't seem to be in place. But the price isn't bad at all. If you are more concerned with value, and don't mind some of the things I listed above, this place could work for you.

He (an African American male) was treated terribly from the moment he went inside. First, the receptionist acted funny toward him and non-friendly, as if he was stealing someone else's order. That was strike number 1. Then, when he got home, we realized our order was absolutely wrong. We were missing the Spider Rolls and the yellow tail. We spent almost $70 so of course, this was irritating. He called the restaurant on his way to get the missing items and once again, the receptionist was rude. She questioned if he knew what yellow tail and spider rolls looked like. Questioning and insulting his intelligence as a grown man. That was strike number 2. He asked to speak to a manager and he said there wasn't one and he would need to come tomorrow to speak to one....yeah ok. He told her that wouldn't be necessary because he was pulling up to the restaurant in about a minute. When he came in she continued to argue with him about his order and told him, he needed to bring it back...why would he bring back the items that were right in the order, when he was there for the MISSING ITEMS?! Not to mention, that's extremely unsanitary! She would not help him but instead argued so badly with him that the chef had to come out of the kitchen. The receptionist spoke to my husband as if he was a child. She talked to him as if he was a thief and a liar. Strike number 3. The chef then told my husband, he would take care of the missing items for him and to not worry. Now, why couldn't the receptions in treat him with the same respect and dignity that the chef did? I'll tell you why. She racially profiled him because of the demographics of the city where the restaurant is located. She treated him as if he was uncultured, ignorant, and a liar. I happened to have reason to be in the shopping center one fateful day, and was hungry to boot. So I decided, I should stop in, if for nothing else, just to say I put it through it's paces. Looking into the kitchen, and just observing interactions, I would wager the same husband and wife combination have owned it the entire time. Though everything is dated, I do love that you can fully see the entire kitchen and sushi bar. I went for lunch, but was surprised there was not a lunch special menu of any kind. Standard in this area, you would usually find that. Same menu all day here. I ordered chicken yakisoba and a yellowfin scallion maki roll. Service was excellent, attentive but not overly so. You can tell the experience, as the same lady was working the whole place (about 8 tables occupied). My sushi roll came out first, no complaints. Fresh yellowfin tuna, the inclusion of scallions was a nice touch both for taste and texture. Appropriate amount of rice. This was great, maybe next time I will just go for sushi. My chicken yakisoba was a good portion, but I found it a bit bland generally. I asked for some ginger sauce to dip it in, and that helped a lot, but on its own I would have liked more flavor kick. The chicken however was cooked well, not dry at all. Overall, this place is not very close to me, but if in the area I would come again. I was just glad to have finally set foot in there after all this time, and find a family run place sticking to what they do best.

After placing a call to Little Tokyo to confirm they too weren't filled to capacity, we headed there for our sushi fix, and it made me regret not having visited sooner. Little Tokyo boasts a pleasant, relaxing ambiance that made it a welcome refuge from the night's rather intense rain. The menu here is Japanese (sushi, sashimi, hibachi, etc.) albeit with some Korean and Chinese influences. The selection of sushi rolls is extensive, and quite a few of them sounded intriguing. Admittedly, the Italian (a California roll topped with white fish, tomato sauce, and cheese) was a bridge too far even for me. My wife and I came hungry and went with two apps (steamed dumplings and vegetable gyoza), four rolls, and two misos. The food was, across the board, quite good. Whereas some miso can blast you with salt, Little Tokyo's broth benefitted from an underlying richness. Our sushi was beautifully plated and tasted fresh. Of the rolls we tried, the Bulgoki (beef, crab, cucumber, and eel sauce) was my favorite. Prices here are reasonable for the quality of the food (rolls in the low-mid teens, most apps under $10), and severs are polite. The kitchen isn't lightning fast, but we didn't find the wait unreasonable. The food was good with exception to the tofu in my bento box. I'm used to really crispy on the outside tofu at my Thai restaurants and thought this was that. Everything else was really good. The staff was very kind and provided drink refills without us asking. Many places don't anymore. Don't forget this place when you are in the area.
