Being a Mediterranean restaurant surrounded by all the Italian restaurants in the North End could easily get lost in the shuffle, but Mood Restaurant & Cafe absolutely has its own identity. I think it's really cool to have that kind of variety in the neighborhood. When you walk in, there's a nice mix of seating. There's seating by the windows, booth-style seating, and other tables throughout the restaurant. I really liked being able to sit where I could get some natural light. You can also somewhat see into the open kitchen, including where the coffee is being made, which gives the space a little extra energy. One accessibility note: like many places in the North End, this restaurant isn't particularly accessible for people using wheelchairs or other adaptive devices. There are about three or four stairs to get inside, so that's something to be aware of before visiting. Now, let's get to the FOOD because I was specifically craving chicken kebabs and Mood delivered! I ordered the chicken shish kebab, and both the flavor and the overall presentation were delicious. When the plate first came out, I was actually nervous because the portion looked a little small. But I was full at the end. So don't let the initial portion size fool you. At least with the chicken shish kebab, it was definitely more filling than it looked. And then there was coffee. I'm not normally a coffee drinker, but sometimes the little things matter. I've been to several restaurants, especially French restaurants, where they don't have white sugar, and if I'm going to indulge in coffee, I need my white sugar! So when I found out Mood had white sugar, I was like, okay, we're in business. The coffee itself was fine, but honestly, having the option I wanted made the experience better. I also really appreciated that they have a mocktail menu. I ordered one of their specialty mocktails, and it was good! Mine had a little spice to it, which gave it an interesting flavor and made it more than just a sweet drink. Another little detail I enjoyed was seeing someone training another person while we were there. Just watching the interaction and seeing someone learn the ropes added another dimension to the experience. Sometimes those little behind-the-scenes moments make a restaurant feel more personable. Overall, I really enjoyed Mood. Great food, a welcoming atmosphere, natural light, different seating options, mocktails, and a Mediterranean menu that gives you something different from the many Italian restaurants surrounding it. Perfect meal! We were wandering around North End looking for a new place to eat and came across Mood. Such a wonderful decision! Everything was really delicious, especially the lamb meatballs with roasted grapes. We loved the meal so much that I decided to make a reservation for when my mom comes into town so I can share the experience. 10 out of 10, can't wait to go back! Update: Came back, found out they are no longer BYOB and apparently under new ownership? So confusing!! We were there so recently, the sudden change was a shock to us. Nobody was dining when we showed up the second time, and the vibe was kind of bland so we ended up leaving and going elsewhere. If you sit by the window, you have direct access to the amazing people watching in North End. Ambience is casual but classy. Food was 5/5 for us. I dropped in here with family for lunch before a Red Sox game thinking the options looked like something everyone could enjoy, as my cousin is vegan. The restaurant is small and well decorated, with a casual upscale feel. We were quickly seated and ordered our drinks; it seemed right away that our waitress was a bit inattentive, as she walked away just as my mom was trying to ask a question about the menu. I ordered the Nutella Latte (for $8, holy smokes!) and a falafel bowl- both decent, but not outstanding. I wouldn't have paid $8 for the coffee if I had seen the size and nature of what I was getting, and wouldn't order it again. For that price I expected something fancy- it was not that. The falafel was okay- but the portion was small, and I've had better (both in texture and in flavor) many times before. Overall, I wasn't wowed- I found it overpriced for what we got both in food and service. One other item of note - the women's bathroom door didn't lock, yet the lock clicked and seemed as if it had. I love pancakes that are more on the sweeter side rather than savory! The pancakes remind of the Japanese fluffy pancakes. This is definitely a must try!!! Tried Mood Restaurant in the North End and... yeah, the food absolutely lives up to the hype. We ordered the mascarpone pancakes (ridiculous in the best way), a turkey and ham croissant sandwich what had no business being that good, and steak & eggs that felt like someone actually cared about breakfast again. Drinks were just as fun vegan eggnog plus a pistachio latte (don't question it, just order it) and a pink non-alcoholic situation that tasted like brunch decided to dress up. Now let's address the elephant sitting at the table with no water: the service. Everyone complaining? They're not wrong. It's slow. Like... "you start reconsidering your life choices while waiting for a bottle of water so you can serve yourself" slow. And yes, management should absolutely just lean into reality and overstaff the place. It would solve everything. BUT and this is important, if you walk in knowing that, you're fine. The staff, when they get to you, are genuinely kind and friendly. It's not bad service, it's just... delayed service. Also, if you've got green hair and are confidently pulling off a look that says "I am both the main character and the plot twist," you will feel right at home here. Buried in the touristy "Italian" part of town is a restaurant that is doing its own though with a unique take on Mediterranean cuisine. I got a swordfish dish and it was as delicious as it was gorgeous. The plating was immaculate. The meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked.
