I have to preface this review by saying that we came here once before, and service was amazing. Had this short Hispanic gentleman that provided excellent service previously, and the food is good in general. This review however, is for the woman named Erica and the short Hispanic woman that did a HORRIFIC job of serving us our second time around. My gf and I came in, and upon entering there was no one available to seat us for awhile, so naturally I looked around the front a bit to see if it was busy or not. It wasn't busy at all. After about 10 minutes of waiting with no service, I looked for a waitress to see if we should seat ourselves or wait for them. The waitress I asked (Erica) rudely interrupted me as I politely asked her whether we should wait or sit, saying "Yea yea I know, I'm gonna seat you at table 5". As if there's a ven diagram at the entrance to this restaurant showing table numbers, or as if I work there, which I don't. Although if I did then I'm sure I'd be showing her how to be a human towards her tables. After she seats us, she walks away and doesn't come back. A short Hispanic woman then comes by and asks what we want to drink (no hello, no introduction, but whatever), so we order waters to start. She immediately asks if we know what we want to order, which we don't cus we don't have the menu memorized unfortunately (we do have manners memorized however, and actually use them on a regular basis, try it out sometimes, welcome to serving). So we peruse the menu, and choose our food quickly knowing that service will be lackluster at best. The short Hispanic woman comes back, asking "You ready yet?". Why yes we are, because we expected you to have no chill. About 5 minutes after ordering, good ol Erica swings back around asking "Did... did you guys order already?". Yes, we did, because we had no idea who was serving us at this point. So after about 20-30 minutes Erica brings out all our food and walks away. We needed refills on water, sour cream and napkins, which we tried to get Ericas attention for, at which point we were only able to get after she DROPPED OFF OUR CHECK LOL. Literally dropped our food off then dropped off our check. You kickin us out bro? So we ask her for what we need, to which she literally says "Oh, uh, okay." So she gets us refills on water and sour cream, forgets napkins, and moves the check from our table to the table next to us. Nice. So she disappears for another 20 minutes, at which point we're pretty mad with the lack of service and basic human decency that even a sh** server can give. She comes back around again and we ask for napkins, to which she replies "Oh... okay surrre" (I wish this were an exaggeration but it blew me away how this is exactly what she said), takes the checkbook and walks away again. She never comes back with napkins, we finish our food and at this point just want to leave, so her next trip around (to which we have to flag her down cus she ignores us at first) we ask for the check. She leaves to go get it, or to go f*** herself in the back, and again just doesn't come back. We officially decided at this point that due to how rude she was and how horrible and confusing the service was, that she was getting very little to no tip. I end up having to get the check from the bar, and when we pull out cash to pay the tab, Erica snaps to attention and comes to our table asking "Are we all set?". We tell her we need a minute to count cash out, to which she stares at us until we say we need a minute again. She finally walks away, at which point my gf asks for change from the short Hispanic woman who took our order before, who is apparently a bartender (cus we're done w Erica at this point) and She flips open the register and points to it, suggesting she doesn't have the change my gf needs (apparently words were a luxury she couldn't afford). My gf has to plead with her before she goes into her check book in her apron and pulls out a fat wad of small bills to give her the change she needs. We gave no tip, wrote horrible service on the check, and walked out. Please don't take this as a review to not come here, but if you do come here, ask for the Hispanic short gentleman that works here because to our knowledge he is the only person that gives a sh** about people. And please tip him generously because I'm pretty sure him and the kitchen are the only hard workers there. Those girls need to learn to serve and remove whatever alien objects crawled up their a**es, or get fired yesterday. And to Monterrays, PLEASE hire friendlier servers or we will never buy sh** from you again. read more

This place is a two-minute drive from work, and it's an excellent choice for some authentic and cheap Mexican fare. The takeout entrees are a little smaller than when you eat in, and for some reason, they're not as good after you drive home, but they are cheaper, which is nice. The first time I ordered from here, I got crunchy tacos that got kind of soggy, but what made me go back was the guacamole. The guac is fantastic. So when I went with a coworker and actually ate here, I got a chimichanga, which was awesome (stuffed, crispy and topped with guacamole, sour cream and lettuce and tomato), and the portion was huge. Take-out would have been $5, and eat in was about $7. It included the main entree with your choice of meat plus rice and refried beans - and a lot of it. You also get a nice basket of chips and some salsa and green hot sauce at your table. I later ordered chile relleno for lunch one day, and for $5, I got a pretty stuffed chile (lots of chicken and cheese) with a good helping of rice and beans plus a little bag of chips with salsa. Very good deal. Monterrey also has great prices on drinks. For two people with full entrees and beers and shots, the total came to around $30. Also, on Cinco de Mayo, margaritas were only $3 - and they were juicy and strong. Definitely worth a stop if you want Mexican in Bristol. read more

The food, drinks and service are all great, and the prices are terrific. The first time I ate there I had camarones de diablo and they were wonderful. This has to be the best Mexican place to eat in Bristol if not the state. The guacamole is to die for. Their chicken melts in your mouth and their pork is amazing as well. My boyfriend and friends go there quite frequently and have never been dissatisfied. I usually resort back to the chicken burrito, and he usually gets the enchiladas. You have to try to pork taquitos. Overall I have had some experiences where the Mexican food was just so so, but overall this is always a pleasant experience, well worth the trip for either pick up or dine in. read more

Ordered delivery on 2/18. Very impressed with the quality of the food while taking into account its mexican food being delivered. The torta de carne asada (steak sandwich) is very good, and although the nachos monterrey with steak were a bit soggy.. thats obviously because its delivery nachos, but the amount of steak and cheese along with their delicious sauces makes me know I need to order them there and would love them. Awesome Mexican Food, Best in the Bristol area. A Friendly Family Restaurant that is very comfortable and you can stay there as long as you like. The décor could be fixed up but that doesn't bother me. I've been there about 5-6 times now and every time I'm never disapointed. The prices are very resonable. My wife and I go there with friends and we always have a good time. Drinks are also very good. Very good sangrias and margaritas. The chips and salsa are always fresh and delish. Seriously underrated! This place is great, recently remodeled and is my "go to" place for Mexican food in Bristol. Fantastic margaritas and sangria! I cannot get enough of the complimentary bottomless chips, salsa, and spicy avocado dip at the beginning of the meal! They should jar their salsa and avocado dips and sell them separately, they ARE that good! I typically order their crispy chicken taco platter which hasn't ever disappointed me. The soup is homemade and delicious, and the chicken salad is fresh and filling. The staff is always friendly and cheerful and since my Husband and I have become "regulars", they always remember our typical orders which makes for a pleasant dining experience. Will definitely keep going here over and over as it's become one of my favorite restaurants locally. read more

This place is totally hit or miss. Sometimes the food and service is fantastic, and sometimes it leaves a lot to be desired. If they don't have one of the sides that regularly comes with your meal, they'll just sub out whatever they feel like putting there, the drinks are abysmal and EXPENSIVE for what they are, don't let them fool you- it's watered down alcohol. The mole is crap, and the queso is watery. They seem to always forget something when your food finally comes, and disappear until check time once they serve you. On several occasions I have needed to get up and go to the bar to get more drinks myself because the waitstaff can't be bothered to pull themselves from the TV to do their jobs. Also the servings are TINY compared to other Mexican fare restaurants. Honestly, now that I think about it, this place isn't hit or miss, it's a miss, they're just convenient so we keep giving them chances. read more

We like this place a lot. My sweetheart and I go here all the time. Our usual server knows us and remembers what we like to drink, the margaritas are not too shabby and they have a nice selection of tequila's to choose from, and she is always very friendly. The salsa is a good mix of tomato, onion, and other ingredients, the chips that go with it are always fresh and crunchy, and they also give you a delicious spicy green sauce. The food is pretty good. My sweetie is allergic to cheese and dairy, and they are good about making sure she doesn't get any on her plate. She loves the enchiladas , the taquitos, and most of the chicken dishes. I've been very happy with the quesadillas, and most of the entrees I've tried. Today I tried the empanada appetizer, and it was good, lots of filling with a crunchy shell. I did have a problem there one time with a steak dish. I love to have my steak rare, and I pretty much never get it that way, and it was no different at Monterrey. It was no more than medium though, which wasn't bad, and it was a pretty flavorful dish. I'd also recommend their guacamole. The decor is not the greatest, they could use some modern chairs and tables but I go places because of the food, not the decor, and I definitely think you should stop by and try this place out. I Got a groupon and tried it with my husband tonight and was very happy. The salsa and the guacamole jalapeño with chips was delicious with as many free refills as we wanted. Than after over an hour I received a call from someone who doesn't speak a word of English (who was the delivery man) just for him to speak spanish to me ( I am not Spanish). So I called the restaurant to see what was going on and they said they had no idea where he was or where my food was. They didn't apologize for wasting my time or anything . My new favorite Mexican restaurant. :) The meal started with complimentary chips (warm!) with salsa and yummy spicy green sauce. I had a taco/fajita combo - the taco was good, but the fajitas were amazing. My boyfriend had the camarones a la diabla (shrimp with hot sauce). He enjoyed it, and was happy that they were willing to customize the spiciness to his liking. The margaritas were good too. The family that runs Monterrey definitely takes pride in their restaurant: it was a fun atmosphere, with excellent service, and very nice presentation of the food (including cute edible dishes for the sauces). The mariachis took requests, but stayed in their own little mariachi area. I like that. Maybe it's just me, but I am uncomfortable being serenaded at my table. We will definitely be back! read more

The frozen wild berry margaritas were awesome!!!! I wanted to lick the glass. They also serve a green sauce with their house chips that is incredibly good but their salsa is not good at all. Their entres are very good too. I had steak, which was cooked perfectly, and they accommodated my substitution of plantains instead of rice and beans, which I appreciated. Our first time there last night and it was great! They were busy so had to wait a little bit for the food- but that's to be expected if you want quality food!!! My boyfriend is from Mexico and he is a chef and he LOVED the food which says a lot because we have tried so many restaurants and he said the others aren't authentic.
