From what I could see, there was one lady running the show-she might have had a helper in the kitchen, but it wouldn't surprise me if she was also the one preparing the food. However, even though it was a small "staff," service was top notch and welcoming. I enjoyed an order of Pad Thai while my dining partner had the Red Curry. We both acknowledged that the dishes were different than we had experienced in other restaurants in the past. Not bad, just different....unexpected. My Pad Thai had almost a tomato/sweet flavor to it. I'm not sure it's going to be my new favorite, but it was pleasant enough. We were warmly greeted and seated promptly. Although this place serves Vietnamese (similar) dishes and a couple of American entrees (burger) the food was decent and we felt satiated. We had the lettuce wraps, banh mi sandwich (bread was not as soft as I'd expected, but had more crunch). The burger was actually good and flavorful! Don't have expectations in experiencing authentic Vietnamese entrees, as the owner is from Laos and although they have similar dishes to Vietnamese, not quite the same. This is a very cute little restaurant which has a cozy house vibe to it. The service was great as the chef would come out to interact with us quite a bit. I came in for lunch and was excited to try the Pad Thai as I heard that this was their most popular dish. I really wanted to enjoy it as I heard they even grow their own bean sprouts. I will say that the ingredients they use are incredibly fresh. However the reason for the 2 star review is that I found a long hair in my food and felt there was simply way too much sauce. Everytime I went to pick up the noodles I would get splashed by all the sauce dripping off of my fork. The sauce was also very tart which made it a bit overpowering. read more

Had the beef pho. I am a pho aficionado having sampled the soup from at least 20 different Vietnamese restaurants. This was, hands down, the worst pho I have ever tasted. The key is always the broth which should be complex, with a slightly sweet and Asian spice flavor. This broth tasted like it came out of a Swanson's carton. YUCK! Extremely comfy, locally owned and operated Asian/Vietnamese/American place. It's made out a converted very old home with both indoor and outdoor seating. Some of the indoor seating is next to a wood-burning fireplace. The owner and chef is a kind woman who checked on us frequently during our stay and told us about how she grows the bean sprouts she serves in her own kitchen! We came here based on the rating and having passed it so many times before. We both enjoy Thai and were curious and hopeful it would be good. We started with the lettuce wraps. The texture wasn't great and the flavor was lacking. They brought out hoisin sauce and sriracha after we had almost finished the wraps. The additional flavor would have helped. My wife tried the Panang curry. It was lacking in flavor as well and seemed to be heavy in veggies more like a salad, with rice at the bottom. My French dip had extremely thin strips of meat. A sandwich should visibly display toppings from the profile, but this one looked like nothing but two slices of bread. The horseradish aioli was nice, but the pho just lacked much flavor. We decided to try this place based on the rating. Having been to various Thai restaurants in Salt Lake and Utah counties, this is easily towards the bottom of the list. The restaurant doesn't have a great layout, the seating is not comfortable, and when we went the air was out so it was hot. A lot to be desired here especially if you compare this place to Baan Thai at the Traverse Outlets. The menu is very limited compared to other Thai places. We tried the lettuce wraps and Pad Thai. Delicious banh mi. The bread was perfectly crisp and crusty and all the ingredients were very fresh. My only complaint is it lacked a little flavor. I resolved this by adding hoisin and sriracha at the table. The pho broth is amazing. My wife says to think twice before adding any sauces or lime, since it starts out so good it can't be improved on. The owner is very nice and grows her own bean sprouts. Looked like this place is run by two owners on a Friday night. They both were rushing around trying to take care of the diners. The ambiance is like being in someone's house with a handful of tables set around the dining room plus entryway. That's literally what it is, an old house dining room plus side area. It's small and noisy. There is a few meal options that are both Thai and American with a French influence. The pad Thai noodles were over cooked (a bit mushy) but had good flavoring with big chunks of grilled chicken vs. the tiny bits you usually get at Thai restaurants. My French dip was kind of ok. It comes on a super crunchy baguette but with tiny slices of beef in 1 layer so it's not noticeable. Served with pho instead of au jus, giving it even less beef flavor, and not enough breading to soak up the pho. The horseradish aioli (more like just horseradish) comes on the side; which is probably good to let you decide how much, if any, to add to your sandwich. The salad was my favorite with its savory yet sweet vinaigrette already mixed in. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but would try again if in the area. We'd try different menu options to see if ordering something else would bump up our rating. read more

Today, my 80-year-old, army veteran grandfather was met with profanities and utter disrespect from the owner, Brian, of the Bistro staff for mistakenly placing garbage in the bin nearest to them. This man used every expletive in the book and flung them like weapons at my grandpa, who is as kind and gentle as is humanly possible. Brian then proceeded to follow my grandfather around for some time, even after he had apologized and offered to remove the cardboard thrown away. Now, mind you, this sweet elderly member of my family was there helping his daughter put together furniture for her new business. I am absolutely disgusted with these horrific actions from an OWNER of a local business and the obvious disregard he showed for a senior member of our society. I'm sure the food here would actually be good if he spent half the time making it as he did yelling obscenities at the elderly...but it is just as disappointing as Brian and his actions today. read more

Really enjoyed this place for a nice late spring work lunch! It is a hidden gem, for sure! Service was a little slow to get started, but I credit that to us arriving when they opened for lunch on a Wednesday. We sat on the patio since it wasn't boiling hot or extremely windy, which was a good call. The patio seating faces west, so in the afternoon you would be in the direct sunlight. To counteract this, they added sunshades that cover the view but provide shade. (You aren't missing out since the view off the patio is the backside of the buildings across the street.) I tried the massaman curry rice bowl with tofu and my colleagues ordered the banh mi and the sloppy chicken. There was a lot of "mmm"-ing around the table while we ate. I really enjoyed the flavor of the bowl and the sauce comes on the side so that you can choose how much to add. The server came by and checked with me that there was enough sauce. (Apparently, folks complained in the past about there being too much sauce and thus too much salt.) It was a perfect amount of sauce using the whole amount. I also ordered the mango sticky rice, because why not? It was delicious but a little too sweet for my liking. read more

This was a very spontaneous stop for us. I was actually on my way to a different restaurant when I passed by Montauk Bistro and had a "What's that? I gotta go back and check" moment. After managing to get turned around and parked (not just street parking - they do have additional parking behind the building) I decided to try it out. It was past the time they typically make crepes, but apparently they hadn't put all the crepe-making tools/stuff/whatever it takes to make crepes away and were willing to make some for me. I (unhappily) shared my crepes with the wife and ordered the pho while she ordered their version of a sloppy-joe chicken. Everything was amazing (yes, I made the wife share her sloppy-joe which is only fair since she ate half my crepes, right?). The pho broth was absolutely fantastic - one of the best I've ever tasted. Sometimes when you order pho you get one really strong flavor that comes through in the broth - whether that be anise, cardamom, or umami. The pho at Montauk Bistro was very well balanced and it did not taste like one flavor was overwhelming the others and they all played quite nicely with each other. The wife's sloppy-joe was also pretty tasty, but I'd have to say that the winner today was the pho. I'll definitely be back (I still need to try their sticky mango rice! Didn't know this place was in business since May, and that there were businesses in that area of Draper. Kinda cool! There were 3 of us in our party and we sat outside, there was a nice cool breeze. We ordered Thai iced tea, chicken lettuce wraps, wedge salad, Pho, and Pad Thai. Lettuce wraps were tasty, wedge salad needed more blue cheese, the Pho had a nice flavorful non-greasy broth and excellent pieces of beef, sadly only about 3 small pieces. We were really craving Thai food and found this place close to my daughters apartment. We ordered 2 dishes the panang and yellow curry. They both tasted exactly the same. Both dishes were chicken and came exactly the same with cabbage and other vegetables. 2 different sauces were on the side. Most definitely didn't taste anything like Thai food - more like stew. I've never seen cabbage in panang curry. No seasonings at all. They gave a powder red pepper on the side to add yourself if you wanted spicy. This powder was awful. The greeting was a little "cold" when we got there and it took a minute or two longer for the waitress,but after this the experience got better. It is a nice little quaint restaurant with a cozy seating area in front of their herb and vegetable garden. We ordered food and first I will say that I'm not sure how "fusion" they are other than having different types of food on the menu but I will say the quality and freshness are awesome. O ordered the rib-eye burger and it was juicy and tasty! My wife ordered the Pad Thai and she also loved it. The owners soon came to our table to check in and that sparked a fun conversation. This is a very very small converted house. I'm not sure if the house has no AC or if it was just broken when we went. But it was Very hot inside. Too hot to enjoy a hot meals. It definitely affected our meal and enjoyment of it. So please take that into consideration as you read this. Maybe call first to see if they have AC or if it's working before you go. The owners are the chefs and wait staff. They were pretty attentive while we were there. We ordered the pot stickers, lettuce wraps and the roast beef sandwich with Ajou. Both the lettuce wraps and the pot stickers were just ok. Under seasoned in my opinion but fairly decent flavor. Nothing special. The pot roast sandwich was the best of show. I have to say the bread was special. Great flavor with a soft inside and great crunchy crust. It was wonderful. The beef was pretty standard and the consume to dip it in was enjoyable. Again, wouldn't describe it as amazing but I can confident recommend it as something most people would like. They don't serve water with ice in it. The menu had something for everyone. I chose the pho and was soooo satisfied! only posting 4 starts because I wish I had more options with the pho.
