I definitely recommend. Luisa and Carla warmly greeted me and did their best to make my order the way I liked it. They were patient with me. They were like instant friends. Those are the kind of people businesses like to hire. I ordered the soup with noodles, chicken and pork broth, and veggies. Somehow there wasn't cilantro? I needed other recommendations and Luisa hooked me up with some yummy chili sauce. (It was spicy ) Overall the place was nice and clean from top to bottom. Tables looked clean. I didn't go into the bathrooms as my order was to go. Overall ambience was spacious, lighting is nice and I didn't even notice if there was music. Definitely will go again. They were so nice and gave me a free drink as I told them I'd like to leave them a review! Thanks again ladies! My favorite place to eat of all time! I order the same thing every time I go because it's soooo good. The drinks they make as well are so freaking good. The best part is it's healthy!!!! the service is quick as well so you get your food super quick. I'm not sure if it's intentional but when I went in the first few times they always had Asian culture themed music which was super amazing that made the ambiance so amazing and unique! But lately when I go into other zaos not just this one but they are playing Katy Perry, pitbull etc. they have seemed to move away from the theme they once had. The other negative is just the price! If they were cheaper I would take my wife here weekly for date night. But it's just pricey unfortunately so we can only go once a month. We usually get the teriyaki sauce, but I've recently branched out and gotten the green curry and that is delicious too. This place is just okay in taste and quality of food. I do really like that they are fast with their service, even with a long line I was able to order and get my food and leave the restaurant in about 19 minutes. I also liked that the food, for the amount you got, was fairly cheap compared to some other places in the area. Again just the quality and taste were just average. I would definitely comeback, maybe it was just that day. We ordered the yakisoba noodles and chicken with some other add ins and it was good but again just not alot of flavor. Delicious, healthy, unique food, all for $9. So worth it. I'd driven by Zao Asian Cafe a couple times before I gave it a try, and I am so glad I did! I ordered a bowl with half brown rice, half noodles, lots of veggies, and steak. The flavor combinations were fantastic, and I din't feel like I was eating a ton of grease like at other Asian places. One of the reasons why I love Zao is because I rarely make Asian food at my house, and when I do, it never tastes this good. Popped in here on a cold night and was immediately greeted with warmth and yummy smells! I opted for the yellow curry rice bowl with white rice, chicken and all the fixings. The tables were all set up for good social distancing but I still opted to take my food To Go. I was also pleased to see plenty of hand sanitizer available. The food here is really good. Service was quick--maybe not the friendliest but they were moving quickly through a line so I can forgive it. Would I come back? Absolutely! This used to be so good. And the food is still pretty good. I just get so totally pissed off every time I come here that it is not worth the increase in my blood pressure. They are so carefully stingy with everything, it drives me insane. There is a ton of rice and noodles in the bowl, but not enough meat and veggies. The ratio is off. And if you ask for cucumber on your bowl or a little extra broccoli because you don't want corn, or a smidge more sauce.... they charge you extra, but you don't get enough extra to justify the up charge. They just opened this location last week and I really like it. The layout is really welcoming and full of bright colors. The location is really good too, with all of the new restaurants popping up in the Scheels parking lot. I tried the Zao chicken tacos and the chicken Bahn Mi. Both were really good. They have this spicy red/brown sauce on both that was super good. I also got their aioli sauce on my tacos and it added a nice touch. They tend to go a little heavy on the carrots, which made the sandwich soggy, so next time I will probably order light carrots. The bread on the sandwich was also really good, soft and grilled. They also have an awesome selection of natural real cane sugar sodas. I don't normally get a drink when I go out, but I had to try these. They have a root beer, vanilla cream, professor cane (dr. pepper?), lemon lime, Mexican cola all with real cane sugar. They were all really unique, the root beer and vanilla cream were my favorite. The staff was also super nice and let me try the meats and sauces since it was my first time. I will for sure be back, I really want to try a rice bowl with their green curry. read more

First time here. Coming from LA. My coworker ordered a cicken bowl with chili lemongrass sauce, and i ordered zao tacos (meatballs, steak and tofu) with guacamole on the side. My coworker really liked the bowl, and he will write a review about it himself. I found my tacos only mediocre. Nothing special. Not much protein were added to the tacos especially the meatball taco. Only 2 meatballs were included in the taco. I do not like their homemade guac. Maybe it's because of the edamame mixed in the guac, I couldn't taste much of the avocado and the texture was kinda weird. It's hard to describe. The closest description that I can think of is that it has the feeling of dry flour including in it. The only one thing I like about the taco is the marinated radish. read more

Every other table is closed to help with social distancing and the outdoor seating is open. Same great food and service, we never tire of this place. Good food, but the staff, the establishment, Covid response, music, amenities are all horrendous. Their social distancing markings and response look completely sheepish and dystopian. They could learn from other establishments like Core Life eatery. They are very shiesty when it comes to portions. It's like they count every piece of chicken, broccoli, and corn that goes into each dish. The food is healthful and tasty, but you have to request modifications from the north to be able to enjoy all the flavors. I have to ask for a little extra sauce or the meal will be dry. The staff lack any empathy and you can't really hear them with the loud music and with their face masks. They sounds like they're battling at you. Their choice of music is horrendous and it's too loud. Minus all the unpleasant experiences, the food on it's own is amazing. read more

I've enjoyed the chicken bowl with rice and chili lemongrass sauce. Healthy eat with a good portion of food with many toppings to choose from. Line moves quickly during the rush hour, and you can see customers enjoying their meal. My colleague did comment on the strange texture of the guac and that was due to the edamame as part of the recipe. It was funny to see only two pieces of meatball in her taco. Zao's rice bowls are fantastic! I order the steak brown rice bowl and I add three sauces: Chili lemon grass , green curry sauce and soy sauce. It comes topped off with carrots, corn, green beans, peanuts, cilantro, and a couple other options. A little over $9 and it is worth it. A great dinner after the gym! read more

The food tastes super fresh and has just the right amount of crisp to the vegetables and flavor in the meats. We tried the banh mi sandwich with the meatballs and I loved it. I'll come back for that. We also got the noodle bowl with chicken and steak. It was pretty good but I liked the sandwich better. The ambience is a bit trendy but casual. I ordered the tacos because why not try something fusion. I got 3 different types of proteins( steak, chicken and meatball). I had the steak one first and was not that impress by it. The steak was kinda dry. The meatball was pretty good but you only get 2 meatballs... The chicken was the best one out of the 3. It had flavor and was not dry or hard. If you're going to go to Zoa. This is the location! Their food is always prepared properly an extra fresh I've been to other locations and I never get the quality of food that I do at this location. Also the service and the team there are incredible! Great customer service and you can always count on generous portions and the quality of food! The steak tacos are definitely a go to for me weekly. It has been a couple of years since going to Zao. They just didn't have what I wanted to heat. I went back and the options offered has expanded and contracted. They now offer a Bahn Mi wrap instead of a sandwich. That is what I had the first time and planned on having it this time, but now that it is a wrap I wasn't interested. Since they have added white rice, I had the rice bowl with steak and teriyaki. It was good and filling. Now that they' serve white rice and Yakisoba, I am willing to come back. This joint is great for a Japanese bowl! Very casual. I HIGHLY recommend the yellow curry sauce with rice and chicken! The sauce is amazing and it's not spicy. The green beans are in a sauce that is SO good so make sure to get those. The photos on the wall are of pretty scenery and the vibes are great!
