Wow, hidden gem. Took family here for dinner the week between Xmas and NYE. Appetizers--crab cakes, cherry/goat cheese croquettes, and the Italian sausage puff pastry. Everything was phenomenal. Entrees--short rib, Maine scallops, scallops and shrimp, and filet mignon. Again amazing. We left stuffed and happy. Wine menu was normal. Cocktail I had the Christmas cocktail called "partridge in a pear tree" which was pear and ginger liqueur with fresh pear. It was so refreshing and festive at the same time. Montarra is a wonderful place to have a fancy dinner. They've got an outstanding wine, whiskey and cocktail list too. We started with their Petite Filet Mignon Crisps, an excellent appetizer. Dinner was Duet of Beef Tenderloin Tips & Bacon Wrapped Jumbo Scallops and the Caramelized Jumbo Maine Sea Scallops. All of the food was cooked perfectly, well-presented and tasted great. Big thanks to the hard working staff behind the scenes presenting great looking and tasting food leaving customers wanting more. The appetizers and entrees are amazing! The salad was disappointing in comparison. All the staff were great and service was fast!

It hurts me to give this review but it really was an average experience. Went there for a family birthday on a Thursday night. This was our second trip but the first trip for a full dinner. Our first mistake was ordering anything but beef. Three of us ordered fish/seafood -- one Chilean sea bass, which came to me lukewarm. At best this fish seemed like the frozen rectangular servings you get from the Costco shrink wrapped pack. It was at best a 2. My daughter had salmon and she was meh about it. My husband had the shrimp and scallop combo -- also a meh. My son had baked Mac n cheese and he likened it to what he "makes" in his bar food experience -- meaning a frozen packet dropped in a boil pot and dumped in a bowl. His came piping hot which seemed like that was the "baked" part of the dish. Cocktails were good. Ambience was meh -- noisy, and not in the pretty part near the water wall and fancy chandelier. You won't see those features from the dining room. The service was okay. The server was too busy for the volume of diners but she did what she could. Don't brother with telling them it's a celebration. No difference than any other table. In short, at this price point (expensive, like city prices for fine dining) we were really disappointed. We don't get out as a family much for this kind of splurge so we left feeling a little sad. read more

Beautiful place and a wonderful meal! The service was superb (thank you Sam!), our dinners were amazing, dessert was delightful but the crowning glory was my pear martini! There were so many choices on that menu it was tough to choose but the hubs completely enjoyed his bacon wrapped scallops and beef tips. I had the jumbo Maine scallops and ate every bite. We shared a dessert of peanut butter cake - what a great flavor! We normally take food home but not this time - it was all SO good. We will be back! read more

Man oh man, this spot makes you feel classy and elegant in a complete suburb of a town. The service is amazing and they know everything about the menu. The specials are everything. They actually have an affordable wine list. Yes, I would not be able to go to this restaurant every single week but it is affordable for a nice treat. They have great appetizers. Their french onion soup is TO. DIE. FOR. I cannot stress this enough. The outdoor setup here is beautiful and I would for sure make a reservation so you can assure you will have a spot. For the celebration of our recent engagement, my fiancé was able to get a reservation on a weekend evening at one of the tables inside. They have also a heated outdoor tent available. When we went there was also a birthday party in one of the sections so it was a bit loud. The decor inside is nice and tasteful. The staff were very friendly and the food came out quickly. The service was excellent - my water always filled, the table cleaned between courses, and food came out quickly. We ordered the Maple Cured Bacon Wrapped Sea Scallops and this was easily my favorite food of the night! We also had sides of Bacon Braised Brussel Sprouts which were good but a bit too soft for our liking, and the Black Truffle Pommes Frites which were addicting! For entrees my fiancé got the Chilean Sea Bass which he said was excellent and I got the Crab and Artichoke Crusted Scottish Salmon which was perfectly cooked without being too chewy, crispy on the bottom. We both completely finished our entrees. We will certainly be back especially for special occasions as it is a pricier restaurant - but the food and ambience was definitely worth it! read more

My hubby and I dined here for Valentine's Day. Prior, he had checked for a special menu -- I checked for a special menu. Couldn't find one, so I figured - maybe they don't have a special menu for the holiday - and just go by their regular menu. I'm kind of fussy - and some things just don't appeal to me. I'm not a fancy schmancy diner - meaning I don't eat things like foie gras or marrow or weird crap like that. So I always look at menus ahead of time to make sure there's something speaking to me. And even though we've dined here in the past, I know menus can change over time, so I checked - so I knew what I'd be ordering and that I wouldn't just be settling for something. So I spot the skirt steak -- and immediately begin drooling. Yes, Yes Please! I want that! Hubby and I get there and are seated right away as we had reservations (obvi). I open the menu - and see it's a special Valentine's menu. With no skirt steak. *sigh* Dreams crushed. Thankfully I had a back up plan which involved the filet. It's the ONLY thing I've ever eaten at this restaurant (remember - I'm kind of fussy, and stick to what I know). But, I was slightly bummed that I wasn't going to get to try the skirt steak. Anyway...... our waitress (I think her name was Amy) was great - and we were ready to order as soon as she came to our table for our drink order. In no time at all, she was back out with our steaks (hubby also ordered the filet). They were both cooked perfectly. Amazingly melt-in-your-mouth tender. And flavorful. For dessert, we tried the white chocolate crème brulee, which I believe was just a special as it wasn't on the menu. HOLY HELL..... PUT THIS ON THE MENU FULL TIME. It was amazing. Uh-Maze-Zing! Seriously. To die for. So - my suggestion -- UTILIZE SOCIAL MEDIA! Put up your special menus, take photos of your special desserts & tempt us all with your delicious looking creations. There's an 'events' tab on the website - but there's no info there. Would have been the perfect place to feature your special menu for Valentine's Day. I can't tell you the amount of times I've seen a post with a picture of some food item - and within a day or two (or same day in some instances) - I'm there buying that food item. I can't be the only one tempted by the tacos or the cupcakes I see. And if I had seen that crème brulee ahead of time, I probably would have ordered 2 so I didn't have to share with my hubby. :) read more

Very nice establishment which you would never think of because it's in the middle of a strip mall. Food and beverages were outstanding across the board...filet, seafood, etc. You can get toppings on a filet such as blue cheese, etc. However, some people like to try 2 toppings on a steak but they charge you for 2 toppings around $5 each so $10 total. This is unfair because each topping only covers half the filet. Prices are on the higher side but quality is excellent. Would five this place 5 stars in the future if they take down some of their prices and not double charge for toppings. Place is on the darker side in terms of lighting. read more

I went here for the first time for a work dinner. The service was top notch. They were able to give us a semi-private room for the event with no extra charge. They accommodated for my vegetarian guests with some off the menu options. I appreciated this. Drinks were delicious as well. I'd suggest getting the fish tacos and bacon wrapped dates. read more

We have been coming to Monterra's since they first opened. Since we moved away a few years ago, we always make it a point to come back here for at least one to two dinners per visit. It is our favorite restaurant in the area. The service , food and ambience have always been excellent. I would compare them to a five star restaurant in the City of Chicago, without the hassle of driving there and finding a place to park. The server we had was terrible, the lighting was too dark. However the food was phenomenal. The server we had poor customer service; she wasn't knowledgeable about the menu. They had 2 salmons in the menu... I asked the difference between the 2 she said it's just your "preference". I tried to elaborate by asking in terms of flavor or how it's prepared the texture ? Again she responded with "it's your preference ". So I went with the day special . Our waters were never changed , the coffee took forever . Our server was just horrible absolutely horrible . She obviously didn't want to be there. Food review 6/5 the food everything we ordered ... they were absolutely delicious . Great food great flavor texture acidity balance harmony ... just everything you can ask for . Service:-1/5 just terrible service . First time experience very disappointed in the atmosphere and cleanliness of the restaurant. There seemed to be a lot of things being dropped by wait staff, the lights in the main dinning room (with blue chandelier) kept flickering on and off. The bathroom was absolutely unacceptable. Toilet paper (some wet) all over the floors across all the stalls. Toilet paper rolls sitting ontop of the dispensers... mess all over the sink counter tops. The seating was compact, and with a completely full room you cannot hear the person sitting across for you speaking without leaning in and almost shouting. The food was a solid 'good' nothing terribly exciting, freshness is there. Ordered the Chilean sea bass could have easily been taken to the next level with a touch of spice, but seemed rather safe. Went for my birthday, told them so, they brought me a birthday menu, as far as I could tell there was nothing special about it other than the words "Happy Birthday!" printed at the top. Food and service were excellent! They have tons of steak and fish options but didn't want that for dinner so we ordered tons of apps and a salad. Also ordered tons of cocktails which were amazing!
