Yes, it's fabulous.... Where to go on a Friday night w no reservation..headed to the Region and while the bar was packed we were immediately seated on the patio - which we loved. Can't wait for the fall as they have heaters set up. Martini was mixed to perfection and we started w the "hot rock", which is literally a rock heated enough so you could sear little steak pieces...it was so much fun to cook and excellent to eat as an app. I had the salmon and it was magnificent!! Large piece, cooked to perfection along w some excellent mashed potatoes. A had the branzino - it was a filet which was different, but she loved it (and is a branzino snob). Trendy and cozy restaurant hidden off of Northwest Highway in Barrington. The best way to make sure you get in on the weekend is either to go very early, but you're best off making a reservation. The service is amazing. Our server, Evelyn, had awesome energy. She was friendly and great at recommending dishes. The busboy (we didn't catch his name) was positive and attentive. The staff really make the spot wonderful. It's modern inside, dark paint, and updated decor. However it feels friendly with the trendy atmosphere. The way these dishes look also match the ambiance at the restaurant. We ordered lots of dishes and they mostly looked great! The Salat Roasted Beet Salad is fruity, thanks to the berries and citrus, with a pistachio whip on the bottom of the dish. It's a heavier dish for a salad, but absolutely delicious and fruity. I also had the San Francisco Style Cioppino was good, but I wasn't expecting it to be like a zupa di pesci, while the flavor was good, I was having FOMO of others eating monkfish and the walleye. The Cioppino had a Louisiana flavored sauce. There was a variety of fish which were all cooked and not overdone. It's a massive dish! We finished off with English Sticky Toffee Pudding and Italian Citrus Mascarpone Cake. The cake was amazing! It wasn't too tart and light. The sticky pudding was also delicious and very sweet. Food was excellent! My husband and I elected to do all small plates and share and we loved everything we ordered. The steak bites and spicy tuna were both items we said we would reorder while the crispy cauliflower was something we wouldn't. Nothing wrong with it - just didn't match how delicious the other dishes were. I'm still thinking about the sticky toffee pudding.....so delicious! We also had the crème brûlée because we couldn't decide and that was good, but no match to the sticky toffee pudding. Service was good for a busy night but we did go awhile without being asked about refills and empty water glasses. I had an espresso martini and even though I like mine not sweet - it was a little too bitter for my liking. read more

I went and was underwhelmed my other friends did not have the same experience. They were more favorable. Ok to start. We got three appetizer the bacon, cauliflower, and onion soup. If i stopped with this it was great. Bacon had nice flavor and the pickle were intriguing and good., with a little kick. The cauliflower was fun and the sauce ban bang very good it had nice flavor with all the right notes only complaint was it was cold and not hot. My one friend said it was much better when they had it last time it was hot and good. I think the day we went they must have had kitchen problems I will try again at some point. The onion soup was probably my favorite thing this evening. It was so good and not over powered in any flavor note everything was perfect. So I should have stopped with this. I did have a glass of wine and it was very tasty and it tasted perfect. So if I say so this was an appetizer and maybe dessert place based on my visit. Two of us got the short ribs and one meatloaf was the three meals we chose. So my short ribs were so underwhelming I will start with the food was not hot when it came out. My meat was cooked perfectly and had a good bite to it. The down fall to my plate. The sauce had zero flavor. Maybe some salt could have helped a lil. I was expecting wonderful flavors like taste the port or any herb but it was just bland. The next was the tomato on the plate with the white cheese. The tomato had flavor but the cheese nine. When combined with the meat not a good mix. . It was almost as if it was added to put color but did not blend well with the meal. The meal was ok but again not hot. The best part of the plate was green beans had good flavor and tasty. So on to the next dish's my other friend did not have much to say about his short ribs but it was better last time he went. For the meatloaf they would comeback just for this alone. It was so good best ever. The only thing again was the sauce. Had no flavor. But I do see it was the same sauce port Demi glacé, They were thrilled with the way the beef tasted. I really want to try a dessert but after the experience I chose not to. I do think I would definitely go do appetizers and desserts again. Most restaurant guests had some dessert and it looked like they were enjoying what they got. They also seemed to have enjoyed their meals. So maybe it was just my luck. As for the waitstaff they were great kept the table clean water filled and kept the meal flowing. The server looked like maybe someone called off and was doing great. Managing all the tables with ease. This was our first time eating here. It is a beautiful restaurant. As other reviewers mentioned the bar has this beautiful top of unique piece of wood. When we were taken to our seats, the room is an amazing combination of modern updated light fixtures, and pine wood used for spindles on some of the walls. And of course, since the restaurants name is Region The walls have very old maps on them. The corner large booth that we were sitting in had a map of downtown Chicago near where one of my sons used to live. It was interesting to look at the older map and realize how much that area of downtown Chicago has grown. I am very particular about my old fashions and like them with very little sweetness. I don't know who the bartender was, but whoever it was made a perfect old-fashioned. We had the appetizer which was raved about and other yelp reviews. It was fun to cook the sliced ribeye on the hot stone. It was a bit expensive for the amount of meat we received. The dipping sauce is very spicy! We ordered a variety of dishes. I had the chilean Seabass with black rice, which was excellent. We also had the highly acclaimed filet mignon meatloaf, which was interesting. Also, the risotto, the hamburger and the pork belly. Everyone was happy with their choices of entrée. And we all got a taste of each other's dish. For my birthday, they brought out some chocolate mousse and I think raspberries? It was a very small amount, but extremely rich. It was fabulous. We also ordered and I want to say it was an Italian name. It was freshly made cinnamon donut holes with espresso and I believe a small amount of ice cream. You take a doughnut, pour little espresso and put the ice cream on it and it was delicious. There is an outside eating area but that night it was still too cold to sit outside. I imagine it's beautiful and the summer. Keep in mind that this is actually in an upscale shopping office area. Looking for something different we found Region. A very comfortable and relaxing place. For a group of 6, the staff were very friendly and attentive, as we ask a lot of questions and keep changing our minds. For starters we decided on the hot rock and tuna. I enjoyed searing the filets for everyone. What a fun idea. We also had the clothes line bacon. Though good, the idea of the bacon clothespinned to the line was novel, but otherwise it was just nice bacon. Not something I would think of for an appetizer. The main courses were the short ribs, Alaskan black cod, the duck, and the evening special whitefish. All plates completely cleaned. Next was dessert, which we don't normally do but the choices excited us. We had the donuts, so good, the crème brûlée - also very good though I didn't get a strong mango and rum which was the reason for selecting it. The brioche bread pudding was a hit and the sticky toffee pudding. We met on a Tuesday and there were plenty of open tables. Apparently a better evening to really enjoy the experience. I noticed we did stay a long time. We were enjoying ourselves, chatting with other customers and we even had the waitress take a family photo. read more

Went here with a party of 6 on Saturday and had a lovely dinner! We ordered 3 small plates to start, we really liked the bacon wrapped dates and ricotta, and then we all got something a little different. I had the short rib and it was perfectly done, and just the right size, no leftovers! My mom had the halibut and liked it, thought the Thai flavor was interesting along with all of the little sides. Our waitress was nice- pushed dessert a little, but otherwise very attentive and great! The atmosphere inside was nice, but we'd love to sit in their outdoor seating soon. I consider us "regulars" at Region Kitchen - at least for special occasions - and we're never disappointed. The combinations of flavors are such a unique experience. Chef Dave is an expert at creating new taste adventures or taking your favorite comfort food up a notch to a new level - like our favorite bacon wrapped filet mignon meatloaf We were celebrating my husband's birthday and the staff always makes such a big deal of celebrations. It's an extra nice touch to make you feel like you're part of their family. Erica our server was a delight! We could tell she was very experienced and comfortable answering questions on the menu. On this visit we decided to try something new. My husband had the Arugula Caesar salad which was presented shaken at the table (see video) followed by the special braised pork chop with bousin mashed potato's and green beans. The pork chop was thick and perfectly cooked and juicy. I had the French onion soup followed by the Deconstructed Lobster Pot pie. The pie was filled with the most delicious sauce, baby carrots, peas, onions and luscious chucks of Lobster dotted with puff pastry shells for crunch on top. We didn't have room for deserted but Erica made sure we had a delightful dollop of fudge mousse with whipped cream and berries so he could make a wish. We decided to take home a serving of sticky toffee pudding / and when we got home we realized they even included the ice cream in a separate container. Always above and beyond! Food was excellent, staff were probably the nicest and friendliest staff I've ever had at a restaurant, and the place itself had a very warm vibe. This place did not disappoint! Food was all fresh and very delicious. The atmosphere felt private even though the restaurant was full. Very quiet and nice crowd overall. The waiters were attentive- often stopping by to remove plates, provide additional bread, or ask how everything was going. What was nice is that they were able to split an adult menu item into two so that my two young children could enjoy some ribs! I had the peri peri chicken and my wife had some fresh fish. This was the second time we came for dinner here. The first time was during the week, it wasn't too busy, last night was a Saturday night. We had a reservation and the place was packed. Everyone was super kind and helpful. Our server was adorable. The food was phenomenal. My husband loved his ribs. I loved the short rib and my friend loved her lobster pot pie. My family loves this spot so I was honestly disappointed! While the interior is a nice atmosphere for a nicer American dinner, the food didn't quite hit the mark. We had a big group, and service took a bit long as well. I got the margarita garden cocktail to start, which was nice and refreshing but the waitress initially forgot it among the other drink orders. She also didn't know that montepulciano is an Italian wine, and I heard her telling my dad it's a Spanish wine... We ordered the hot rock steak and shrimp dejonghe for appetizers to share, and these were tasty. The steak was my favorite part of the meal and fun to cook at the table. For our entrees, I got the salmon, which was way too salty so I couldn't finish it. My boyfriend's cioppino was so disappointing as it tasted like seafood drenched in spaghetti sauce. The 'table side' ceasar salad we got to share was a dump from a farmer's fridge jar basically - that was the table side experience ha. Overall, I was expecting much better food, service, and presentation but there seems to be much better restaurant options for that in the area in my opinion. read more

It's nice to see an upscale restaurant in the area. The food is good, service is good. The menu gets updated seasonally and they have a specials menu that has a few extra choices. The bar has many choices and people seem to love the cocktails. I drink Tequila and they have 8 or so different brands. The well is Arette Reposado (square bottle) which is a nice surprise. In other brands they have a mix of aging, blancos, still strength, repos, anejo, & extra anejo. Most of the brands are additive free (very nice!!). read more

Region Kitchen and Bar has been on my "Restaurants to Try" list for a little while and I was able to make a reservation for my birthday. When we entered, the hostess was very welcoming and friendly. Immediately in front of us was a long bar with a glossy wood bar top. It was basically a slice of a tree and looked pretty cool. We were seated in a cozy corner and that made for a more perfect evening. We didn't have appetizers or drinks, but the bar looked cool with a wood countertop with an unfinished (but polished edge). Our server was extremely friendly and helpful with what to order as it was our first visit. My wife is not much of a meat eater so she selected the Salt Roasted Red Beet Salad. Now I'm not a salad lover and I'm definitely not a lover of beets (especially not like Dwight Schrute), however, she loved it. And for $12, it was a huge salad. She took most of it home. I had the Boursin Cheese Stuffed Filet Mignon. It was fantastic! It wasn't too heavy on the cheese and the steak was cooked to perfection. Since it was mu birthday, they brought me a lovely chocolate mousse dessert and it was heavenly. The ambience is perfect for couples and small groups not looking for a loud boisterous atmosphere. Been to Region a few times a year over the past 8 since moving to Barrington. Food aways excellent; we love the hot rock tuna to start. We also wish they serve a few more pieces of tuna for the price. Entrees always excellent as well as the side options. The toffee pudding dessert may be one of the best ever. Well it's about time i give this awesome restaurant the recognition it truly deserves. Too start of with the staff are just top notch. Friendly. Happy. And attentive to all thier guest needs. Big shout out to Thomas our server. Great job. For me the Ambiance is relaxing ,calm, noise level was low on the night our group went. There were 8 in our group. All in or been in the Hospitality business. 10 out of 10 from us all. All our drinks were top notch. Nice wine list too. Two of our party had the Expresso martins, best ever. The food. That's why we all go to eat out. Every bite was excellent, from our appetizers to the dessert. My husband said his Fillet was one of the best he has ever eaten. I had the braised short ribs. Soooo good. Only wish I had more of the yummy mashed potato. Next time I'm going to get a extra side. Or beg for a extra scoop. Give this place a try. But please leave a seat for me. Not the first this summer I've been underwhelmed by the food at Region. This establishment has been splurge worthy over the last few years since open until this summer. Dined twice with two meals lacking flavor, presentation, and over all satisfaction you would expect at this price point and reputation. Not sure what changed but it happened in the kitchen and potentially behind the bar. Server was excellent and meals corrected eventually (waited along time on refire). Will try again in the winter after they fix what's broken. Complete disappointment when it comes to food. read more

Came here to dine on Saturday night. We started with the clothesline bacon and the ricotta. Even though we had extra bread, there was still way too much cheese for the bread. As such, we wound up with almost 1/3 of the cheese remaining uneaten. I had the shrimp and grits and my fiance had the walleye. Both had great taste. The sauce on the shrimp and grits made the grits soupy and hard to eat with the fork provided. The service could be improved. We ordered drinks which arrived after about five minutes. We put in our appetizer order and then sat and waited for quite a while with no acknowledgement from our server. Once the appetizers arrived our server finally came by and took our entree orders. My drink also sat empty for a while and I was never asked if I wanted another. One other thing of note. We were in the back of the restaurant near the mens restroom. It was so cold in the area. We were chilly and overheard other tables mentioning how cold it was in there. Overall the food was delicious. I can definitely see us returning in the future. read more

Went to Region last night with our friends. Fantastic!! The food was phenomenal. We started wit blue crab Rangoon and onion soup. Then shared a beet salad. All delicious. But the food was sooo good - Octopus seafood paella , sea bass (my favorite) and the seafood curry. These dishes were temperture hot and delicious And, of course can't go home without having the donuts for dessert Highly recommend Region. Region is one of the best values for great quality food in the Northwest suburbs. Their prices are fair and the quality and creativity of the dishes exceptional. We do not dine there often enough, but we will change that trend. Region deserves our support! Last night we dined outside in their wonderful comfortable outdoor dining area. I love the little touches like a decorative cushioned rug under the table and chairs. It is this attention to detail that sets Region apart. The service was outstanding and professional. Our server was informative, knowledgeable and attentive without being obtrusive. The Bang Bang Cauliflower is as the description on the menu says: "Barrington's favorite small plate". It is a must order when dining, a very generous portion that can be shared easily by 4 people. Also, the romesco sauce is delicious, (maybe we will request a little additional sauce next time we order). The Walleye is a menu mainstay and it is prepared creatively delicious! Highly, Highly recommend. One of the hidden gems on the menu is the burger. If you have not had the French Onion Burger yet it is a must and also upgrade to Truffle Fries. One of the few restaurants that you can actually taste the truffle flavor! The prices are very fair at Region for fantastic quality compared to some new restaurants that have opened recently. My husband and I went to Region on a Thursday night to celebrate his birthday. We made reservations through Open Table. Everything we had was delicious from the complimentary Lavosh crackers they start you out with to everything we ordered. The bang bang cauliflower was so delicious, crispy, and sauced perfectly. We're used to ordering bang bang shrimp so we weren't sure how the cauliflower would be but we were delightfully surprised. I ordered the Cioppino (my first time trying this) and it was a seafood lovers dream. I loved tomato based stews and all sorts of seafood so this was perfect--- it had plenty of mussels, sea bass, salmon, shrimp, and scallops, plus 2 large pieces of crusty bread to soak up that good broth. Service and ambiance were wonderful. Absolutely no complaints on that end. Overall a lovely experience and will be sure to return. read more

To start with, the " Through the Looking Glass Old-fashioned" was spectacular but a bit on the pricy side. I had the filet meatloaf, oh how pretentious of me, and it certainly lives up to the name. Date night at Region Kitchen and Bar was an AMAZING experience! I've been here before but this night was exceptional. Our AWESOME server Laurie was fresh friendly and professional with flair for knowledge of the wine, cocktails and cuisine. She offered great suggestions knowing a nut allergy was present. The appetizers including the Sashimi Grade Ahi Tuna Tartare were fresh and a perfect beginning to a memorable experience. Chef Nicholas Robinson hand delivered the recommended Filet Mignon Meatloaf to the table and stayed for a brief food educational chat. YES- he came to the table! Even the two Bussers we had were trained with expertise. Every one of the inspired staff made us feel special, welcome and left us with a feeling of passion. Thank You for a great night. Wow - it's so great to be back here! Dined at Region heavily throughout 2018 and last month when a couple of friends treated me here for a belated birthday and new job celebration! My friend and I had originally asked to be seated in Kevin's section last night for our 8:30 reservation, but unfortunately, a gentleman had a medical emergency in Kevin's section (that customer was, fortunately, cared for quickly and efficiently by Region's staff and Barrington paramedics). But, my friend and I were instead, seated in Kara's section! She was GREAT-- VERY attentive, pleasant, good humored and efficient!!! Our dinner was awesome too! For appetizers, we had the Bang Bang Cauliflower and Sashimi Tuna Tartare; for entrees, my friend had the Cioppino, I had the 14 oz. Ribeye and a lobster tail; we shared sides of the corn crème brûlée and asparagus! All the food was incredibly, wonderfully fresh, hearty and flavorful! The ambiance was just as we remembered it when we first dined here 7 years ago: sexy, chic understated and elegant. There were also a lot of young, attractive and well dressed folks there last night -- definitely not the Old Country Buffet demographic! We would definitely come back and HOPEFULLY get seated in Kevin's section (he was our FAVORITE server at 2 Lake Zurich restaurants: D&J Bistro, where he worked for almost 15 years and then at Lago, where he worked prior to joining Region). read more
