I've used this shop with multiple vehicles spanning the last ten years. They are very honest and fair.

had my car towed to the shop for a broken serpentine belt around 9AM ish and Dave called me back around noon letting me know the job was done. honestly this shop will be my only option for repairs unless i'm in desperate need and their closed lol , never had a problem bringing my car to them. they're always honest, helpful and respectful. read more

So far, nothing but good experiences here. I needed some suspension work done on my vehicle. I was quoted a fairly large quote from a couple of other places in town, I showed a quote here and they cut $500 off of it and put much higher quality parts. In the middle of the project, I got a phone call that a couple of other items were worn out and should be replaced and they would put them on without charging more labor since everything was torn apart. Just had to charge me for the parts. I made an appointment, drop my vehicle off the night before and took them a full day to get it done. But when I drove away, it was 1000% better. They have a new guy working the counter now that came over from tires plus. He really knows his stuff. Jerry the owner came in to say hi to me and asked me how my kids were doing. Definitely a nice guy. Brandon was the guy we always worked with before, he's leaving and Kevin has taken his position, sad but yeah as I said before Kevin is definitely a nice guy too. I recommend this place as it's very difficult to find a mechanic that you can trust as well as get a good price for the things that need to be done. read more

Worst place ever. I took my truck. Last year on October To get repair on my air conditioner and. Pay $280. It was working fine but only used it for for almost a month in half. And my AC is not working again. So I could and talk to some one a he was like o no that's not good bring it back. And will check it. So we took it today and. They say I have to pay again the 280 to get it. Check and repair. Don't think that's fair. Because. They did do their job right. .. so don't recommended this place at all read more

I'm very happy my wife and I found this auto repair shop. He helped fix my Cadillac Escalade, and was very reliable and quick to take care of things. His prices are fair and reasonable. Will definitely be using him again in the future. Highly recommend. read more

Used this business recently and was really impressed! They diagnosed the issue w/ my truck and fixed it the same day. I compared their rates (including parts) to others and they were very competitive. They even followed up afterward to make sure I was pleased with everything. read more

Most of the reviews on here are obviously from the previous owners. Jerry is an honest, dependable guy who takes the time to explain his diagnosis and offer his customers options for repairs if applicable. We have been bringing multiple vehicles to Jerry for about a year now and we are totally satisfied with the work and would highly recommend Monkey Wrench for all makes and models. One example, we brought in my C4 Corvette with an idle issue. We had been to another shop on Freeport that kept the car for 3 months and could not figure it out. That was a "Complete" waste of time and money. Then we took the car to the local Chevrolet dealer who gave us an estimate around $6,000 and that 'might fix it' So Jerry diagnosed, estimated and repaired the vehicle for a fraction of that estimate and she runs like a 'Champion' now. He also called me a few weeks later to check on the vehicle status and be sure we were happy with his work. read more

In my last review, I said I'd be back... my engine check light came on right before my Memorial Day vacation. I called Brandon and he got me in the next day. They diagnosed the problem with the coil and spark plug quickly and called each time they found other issues. As they got into taking the engine apart, they found 2 more items that needed maintenance and asked if I would like them to fix while my engine was opened up. They gave me a discount on both hours and parts. Monkey Wrench has my business for life. read more

Jerry does excellent work highly recommend for repairs if you want done right the first time

After having two other shops unsuccessfully try to diagnose a transmission problem, I was stumped. Had a recommendation to try Monkey Wrench, and they delivered. They found the problem (a bad computer), fixed it, and kept me up-to-date throughout the process. Very easy to work with, great communication and keeping me up-to-date, and they were very flexible in picking up the vehicle, as I was traveling when it was repaired. Highly recommended. read more

I came here after driving by on my way to work, realizing I needed an oil change. I honestly didn't even look at the reviews, I just like to patronize local if and when I can. I walked up and asked if in addition to changing my oil if they could rotate my tires, to which Jerry (the owner) said yes. In under 30 minutes my oil was changed, tires were rotated, fluids were topped and my tire pressure was filled and checked. And the cake topper was the price. $50 for an oil change and tire rotation?!?!?! Where has this business been my whole life?! Insane. I will only be bringing my car here from now on. read more

my 2006 subaru outback LLBean 3.0 engine needed a timing chain went to all about cars they could not do it tried the Subaru dealer who doubled the price once the car was there. Tried a few other shops to no avail. Monkey wrench did the job fast and at a great price. There were other problems caused by a mouse eating wires they fixed that problem again at a reasonable price. no BS honest answers and do it right read more

I'm an out of towner and took my car to get looked at. I really appreciate the time Brandon took explaining what was wrong. If I was local, this place would definitely be my go to for car repair. read more

I heard a rhythmic, knocking sound in the new, used car I had just bought & was concerned it would likely be a very expensive repair. Anyone knowing anything about cars knows a rhythmic, knocking sound coming from engine area is gonna cost you big bucks. Can you imagine how relieved I was that the knocking, rhythmic sound to be fixed only cost the minimal price of replacing a tire's lug nuts? (The existing nuts were stripped; not well-seated, which caused the knocking noise!). If this auto shop were dishonest, they could have easily ripped me off. Instead, MECHANIC JERRY GARCIA quickly evaluated the problem, fixed it promptly AND AT LESS COST than other shops. MONKEY WRENCH AUTO SHOP MECHANIC JERRY GARCIA, is a highly trained, professional mechanic who has immense expertise in auto repairs and is an honest man whose shop, MONKEY WRENCH, completed the repair quickly & at lower cost than other shops. Do not be led astray due to this being a small shop and next to a crummy motel. Even if I had unlimited funds to take my car anywhere for repair, I would not go to some shiny, dealer's showroom, I'd bring it to MONKEY WRENCH AUTO SHOP and I know I'd get a professional repair at a fair price. read more

Busy shop, indication of a trusted place to take your vehicle. I recently had a DMV inspection completed here. Hienz (the mechanic/owner) gave me great service, extremely fast (out in about an hour) and charged me 1/3rd of what other shops in town were charging. Will definitely visit the Monkey Wrench if my car goes down or needs any work! Big fan of this place! Regards, Charles K. read more

Seriously, this shop is great! My Brother takes all his vehicles here and we do as well. It may not be the fanciest or in the nicest part of town, but they treat you well and really know their stuff when it comes to vehicles. They stand behind their work and I love the small shop feel. Other places may be all shiny and new, and good at schmoozing their customers. But Monkey Wrench is a honest, real time, family owned local business who tell it straight and charge reasonably. I would recommend it to anyone and won't go anywhere else. read more

dude charged me $150 for a simple 30 min battery job said it cost extra because he had to take the battery out. do not recommend.

I was referred to MONKEY WRENCH because there was something unusual going on with the transmission that was beyond the expertise of another car repair shop. Never heard about MONKEY WRENCH before. This is a small business just past the Peppermill on South Virginia Street. I did not have an appointment and the shop was quite busy so, I needed to leave my car there overnight. They gave me a ride home AND picked me up next day when my car was ready. It was a faulty message sent by the car computer to the transmission and MONKEY WRENCH has a mechanic who is an expert on car computers - a rare treasure! And the cost was fair - certainly less than the dealership would have been! I am so pleased with their service that I plan to take my car back with any other repair needs - they can do it all! Wonderful people, great service and I am very happy to have found this shop. Highly recommend MONKEY WRENCH! read more

I had 2 different mechanics work on my wife's jeep Cherokee & install numerous parts & the vehicle still lost power & ran poorly 3 people recommended HEINZ the "owner" who has lots of years of jeep experience did the diagnostic & the repair in just a couple hours @ a very fair price !! He scheduled the appointment did it on time & called me to pick up my vehicle in the same day... Old school mechanic small business, hard to find. Thanks Monkey Wrench read more

What a great little shop. Everytime I go here, I'm happy with the pricing and results. Awesome guy who stands behind his work.

So purchasing a used vehicle can be one of the most stressful things out there! Am I getting a good deal? Should I buy it? Is it going to break down as soon as I leave the lot? There are so many things that make up the purchase process including having the vehicle inspected prior to purchase! So a couple days ago I called Monkey Wrench and spoke with a very nice lady who explained to me that a used vehicle inspection was a service they offered and that the cost varied from, "if he's in a good mood, nothing and up to $50." I thought no matter what, that was a good deal especially if I caught whoever she was talking about in a good mood! Well let me tell you, that was not the case! I pulled into a lot that seemed more like a drug den junk yard than a business! There were orange syringe caps on the lot and hardly enough room to park! This place was less than inviting and you certainly couldn't even tell if it was open! Then I made my way inside and this guy, I'm assuming was the owner because of the way he talked to me, said, "what do you want?" SERIOUSLY? So I began to explain I had called and was interested in having this vehicle inspected and before I could even finish the guy says, "i don't have f***ing time for that!" I now, extremely upset said, "That's why I called!" The poor lady at the desk seemed so scared that I had said this she profusely apologized to the man to the point I felt that she was going to be in trouble after we left! In conclusion, please please please don't ever patronize this establishment, anyone who treats paying customers like that don't deserve business and I only hope you take my advice so you dont have to experience what I did! read more

These folks overbook and can't manage their little business. Rude employees , not one bit professional. I've been waiting about two weeks to hear back from them, I call to check up and they just insist they'll give me a call back. They always seem confused and out of it. Would not recommend this little shitty shop to anybody. read more

Fantastic service, you can not beat this place. Heinz is great and is truly an honest mechanic.

I love the Monkey Wrench, we've gone to different mechanics and honestly, this is our first choice for anything auto mechanical. They are honest, very fair priced, quick and friendly. They stand behind their work, recently I had the alternator replaced in my car and as happens sometime, they had a bum part. So I brought it back the next day and they replaced it immediately, no questions. They're just really good people and I hope I never have to go anywhere else! I refer everyone I know here. read more
