This Company Sucks! When I wanted to cancel my account with them, it was extremely hard to do so. I spent hours on the phone of them trying to scare me into keeping it as well as trying to convince me as why I need it. My call went to several people trying to save their business. They even lowered the monthly payment to try to keep me but I wanted nothing to do with them after all the hard sells. When they FINALLY allowed me to cancel I had to send in a letter for cancelation which could take 30 days and in the meantime they still Bill you for the month while they get acceptance of wanting to cancel. That should be illegal and I'm sure it is somehow. If there is ever a Class Action Lawsuit on this company I will gladly join in! I will never deal with this company again! I originally had signed up with B&D Security and somehow ended up with Monitronics. I guess my account was sold off to them. If I could had put no stars I would have! Buyer Beware!!!!! Horrible experience attempting to cancel service. They make cancellation very difficult. Even when I just through all of their hoops (phone, physical/regular mail letter) they said I was on a 5 year plan (not true). When I found and showed my contract, which was only 36 months, they said that they already knew that, but my signature on the letter did not match the one they had on file. This is in addition to already including my security word. Avoid this company!!!! read more

This is my first review. I just had to pass on my experience with Monitronics when I tried to cancel my service because it was so lousy. I initially had a contract with a different security company and then Monitronics bought that company so I had to finish out my contract with Monitronics. When I went to cancel Monitronics for a less expensive option (the new service was less than half the price, btw), I was told that I'd need to send in a letter to confirm cancellation and when they received it, they would cancel my service in 24-48 hours and only charge me a prorated rate for the last month. I sent the letter in and called a week later to check the status. The first person told me that it takes 30 days to cancel service and that I'd be charged for the entire last month even though I wasn't using it, so I asked to go up the chain of command. I already had a 30 dollar credit on my account, and after one more escalation, I was basically told to pound sand about getting any of that money back. Totally shady business in my opinion. Just wanted to pass this along to anyone looking for a security monitoring system. I wish I could put zero stars as my rating. read more

Twice I've been contacted by Moni now stating I have a past due balance because my auto-draft payment info was invalid. My auto-payment info never changed...no actual bank card re-issue...no actual card expiration. Moni modified the expiration date on my MC on file for my auto-payments with zero authorization from me. Both times I contact them to clear it up by providing the exact same card # and expiration date that was originally tied to my Moni account auto-payments. Both times I'm told that they received confirmation from my bank that the expiration date was 20 months prior to the actual expiration date. If I weren't still locked into a contract I'd cancel. To compound my frustration level I was transferred twice and disconnected twice after 40 minutes of hold time. Then on my 3rd call to Moni I finally reached Monica who was able to a) actually speak to my concerns b) apologize c) refund my late fees paid. Overall this is a level of incompetence that I'm just not comfortable entrusting my home security to. read more

If I could give zero stars I would!! My 95 year old grandmother was their customer for YEARS. Due to getting up in age she had to move out of her home. She was unable to live alone anymore. At that time she "called" to cancel service. Mind you, she wears a hearing aid. Well I guess they told her to submit her cancellation in writing. She did not hear that and thought her phone call was satisfactory and that she was done with that area of business. 3 years later she is still being charged from them. They were automatically taking it out of her bank account!! Almost $1500.00 they had no business charging her. She has macular degeneration disease which has taken her site. She cannot read her bank statements!! When I found this out I called numerous times to get her reimbursed. No one would budge. They would not give her money back due to no letter being received. I think this company is dishonest and no good. DONT GET THEIR SERVICE!!! read more

Horrible company. They installed their "wireless system" by super gluing little white boxes to my nice doors. Despite what they said about the size of animals my cats set off the motion sensor constantly. They never asked me for a verbal code. Once I came home with my daughter and put in my code. That set off an alarm that said I pressed the keypad too hard. They called my cell phone and I could not verify the code, that they never asked me for, so they sent police to my house. I ended up paying for the visit plus found out that Monitronics never told me I needed a permit for the alarm so I had to pay extra for that. Ended up the code was put in as just my last name. Worst of all, we moved from the house into a rental, and still had 7 months on the contract. If you call to cancel they try really hard to get you to transfer service to a friend or family member. They use scare tactics and guilt trips to try and get you to keep service. They told me I didn't care about my family. They say they are "protecting America". They say that they see news stories everyday of things bad happening and that they help prevent those things from happening. Then if all the fear mongering, scare tactics, and guilt trips don't work, they tell you well "there's nothing you can do" but keep paying the contract. Not only do you have to pay to the end of the contract, for a service you no longer have, but you CANNOT cancel at the end of the contract without a hand signed letter sent to their office in Dallas, TX. They will extend your contract and keep charging you if you don't type up a letter with a reason for cancelling, code word, and account number and snail mail it to Dallas. The ethics of this company are vile. I don't know how their employees can sleep at night knowing they screw people over everyday for a living. read more

HORRIBLE COMPANY. DONT BUY Their Service!!! When I had the service I really liked them, always polite and the installer very nice and helpful. Then I sold my house with only 3 months left on my account. Paid that over the phone and received a confirmation number. Then they deducted another payment from my account the following month. I Called them and they said I didn't send in a cancellation letter so my account was still active. First, I had already paid it, second I had a cancellation number. The guy I spoke to was an idiot. Finally after going around and around he transferred me to an account manager. The account manager transferred back to CS. Bottom line I was transferred 5 times before they said it was taken care of and over an hour on the phone. Next month September 2015, same thing. though since I closed checking account they sent me a bill for Sept. Went the rounds Again. Again over an hour on the phone and transferred 5 times. Yep you got it, same thing again in October, November, December. Now here we are Jan 2016. Yep got another Bill. I am turning this over to my attorney. ABSOLUTELY THE WORST EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE. DONT EVER USE THEIR SERVICE!!!! TOTALLY RUDE PEOPLE When you cancel. ABSOLUTE IDIOTS ON THE Freaking Phone!!!!!!! I Am having to sue them to stop service!!!!!!!!!! And to stop billing me. This company, which we used with no problem for 11 years, has become a NIGHTMARE. We moved, attempted to cancel service, and they interpreted that into us needing an install at our new home half the country away. They never contacted us to "install" so we didn't realize t wasn't canceled. They continued to autobill us for 15 months. We had no monitoring equipment installed at new location, there was nothing to monitor, yet they charged us continually. They refuse to refund our money, stating we never canceled. When speaking to representatives they don't understand you can't charge for monitoring a home when there is no equipment. No service was provided. We have spent hours trying to get this canceled and rid ourselves of these people. I had one employee try to use scare tactics on me since I was a lady and "needed monitoring services" that the reason they cannot cancel my account over the phone is because of a MURDER. He said "a husband and wife were divorcing, the husband called and canceled monitoring service, and then went to the home the next day and murdered her". I kid you not! The scare tactics this company used were not only disgusting, and degrading; they are fraudulent. I have never written a Yelp review or gone on social media to vent about a company but I feel compelled to let everyone know what this company, which has many iterations and names like Moni now, is doing. read more

Worst company ever! I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. We were sold this security system by a gentlemen named Eric who worked for Vision, he told us that we could cancel the security system at any time, with no charges. I asked him about cancelling numerous times because I feel most companies wont tell you about hidden fees or how difficult it will be to change things once you have it. He assured me repeatedly, that I could cancel at any time and I would not own money. We had an issue with the door lock, and even when the techniques came out to fix it, they put it on sideways and it never worked. We ended up moving from our house so we wanted to cancel the security system. When I called Vision to cancel It, they told me they no longer owned my contract that it had been sold to some company called Monitronics. I talked to a few different customer service rep at Monitronics over a long period of time asking what my options were since we no longer lived in the house. Not only did I get horrible customer service, the manager I spoke with named Ashley was awful. She was very short and rude with me. I have worked many customer service jobs and if I ever spoke to anyone the way the employees at Monitronics spoke to me, I would have been fired. They said I had a 5 year contact, which I was NEVER told about, and if I moved the security system I would have to sign up for an additional 12 months on top of the 5 years. Needless to say, they were never of any help, I just paid the full amount that we owed before our contract ended this May. So the past 3 years I haven't lived in my old house, I've been paying this bill that hasn't benefited me in any way. I've been using Monitronics for over 3 years. Recently I've had a technical problem that required a tech to come to the house. They scheduled an appointment a few days later. The next available appointment was 9 days after I've reported a problem. The day before the visit Monitronics confirmed time: from 8 a.m to 12:00 p.m. The technician never showed up and never called. It is horrible, despicable customer service. They offered a credit for the time that the system was down. That's really generous, taking into account half of the day that I've missed from work. They offered reschedule again in 8 days!!! Why do I need them if the system didn't work for almost 3 weeks. My friend had the same problem with this company and the technician came in only on a THIRD!!! time. I've tried to cancel my service over the phone, but they require to send a letter to P.O box. I send a letter and signed with a different company. Avoid by any means! read more
