Don't do it!! Worst customer service ever. Used website's contact us and asked a question on how to cancel service. They told me to call an 800 number to cancel. The 800 number said to write a letter (with my account number AND passcode on it) to cancel (via US mail, with 30 days notice... ) and that the contact us department didn't know the cancellation procedures. "So sorry". Sent letter, had to be transferred 5 times just to get conformation it was received and still could not get final amount owed. Begged to stay, had to be transferred to the retention department just to get the requested information..Then...wait there is more! Suddenly I owe more than I did before :(. read more

I just purchased a home in South Los Angeles, and this young man named DANIEL (714) 797-6602, approached me offering Home Security. He informed me that He only goes after New Home Purchases. His offer sounded good but there was something about Daniel that my instinct didn't trust. I decided to take his offer and Thank God their "system" couldn't get an approval. Time was wasting and I went with ADT who had no problems. I called Daniel to inform him and He Went Off with Sarcasm including an Unprofessional demeanor. I Recommend that you go with a trusted security company and Avoid business with this Daniel person from Monitronics. Good luck with your security system decisions. read more

Been with them 4 years and had huge problems when was under security networks (they bought out). Cameras are around $400 each and I've had one go out and a wireless access point I had to replace. If you use Windows they require QuickTime to view and download videos. Apple quit supporting QuickTime for windows over 6 months ago and neither Moni or Honeywell has a fix for it. So that leaves your windows computer vulnerable if you use it. Just spent 20 minutes on hold waiting for the customer retention specialist to try to keep me. They lowered my monthly price $3. They also had me sign a 5 year contract when I started. If you use windows beware. read more

Monitronics, now called Moni is a great system. They are always updating their equipment and apps too give a great experience. My favorite thing about them is their great customer service. It's the nicest business I've ever called. Darrell Mays was absolutely a pleasure to talk to today. Other businesses could take a note from all these reps. I've trapped to several. The installation is a good experience and the system works, keeping my family safe. I rest easy, knowing help is just a button away. read more

DO NOT sign up with this company. The technology they gave us became quickly antiquated and they had no features like mobile phone access to the alarm service. We switched over to Spectrum and got a fantastic system installed for free and pay LESS each month than we did with Monotronics. Plus, Monotronics refused to let us quit them and made the process incredibly awkward and frustrating. I went from disliking this company to actually hating them. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for a service provider. read more

I would give them less than a star if it were possible. After 1 year they still don't know who they are doing business with. I have tried repeatedly to get them to fix my name on the account. The previous home owner is who they think I am . It concerns me that if my alarm is triggered then the police might take me in as the burglar. Seeing how monotronics doesn't know who the home owner is. They were glad to take my money and set me up with an account but they could care less about who they are doing business with. read more

We have been customers of Monitronics security supplier for over 8 years ... It has been a very very good experience. I compared with my Nieghbor who has another supplier and they have trouble all the time ..... We had a upgrade due to us - Monitronics sent a contractor who was the best - this guy Fransisco knew all the checks and was very thorough - he was polite and thoughtful to us in our home . This company does what it is suppose to do at a reasonable cost to the consumer - thumbs up!!! read more

Horrible company. I signed up for what I was told was month-to-month only to find out when I went to cancel 4 months later they said I signed a 2-year contract. After getting very frustrated, I paid for 2 more years. I called them back today to cancel and was told my contract is 3 years. I'M GETTING AN ATTORNEY! BEWARE! read more

I will add another One Star review for this company, mainly for the contract sales team Monitronics choses to use. After researching Monitronics we all thought the personal alert device would be a good thing for my mother in law to wear and would seriously consider the security system. We also thought it would be prudent for my wife to attend the sales meeting ensure a fair deal. The sales person forgot to bring a personal alert device to demo. Well that's not a smart move on their part so that idea is out. After listening to the pitch they decided not to get the security system. Afterward the sales person called my mother in law back and berated her for wasting their time. Very very unprofessional! So read all the reviews and make your own decision. As for us we will not be giving them a second chance and strongly stand by the 1 star rating. read more

Their cancellation practice is bogus!! DON'T DEAL WITH THEM!!

Worst service ever. I moved and cancelled them for many reasons. And they still build me for a while month of not living there. I called the week of moving and I had to write a letter.!! Yes write a letter to get then to terminate the service. Not over the phone or email. Ridiculous and I got a late fee and return check fee because my auto draft had stopped because I don't fucking live there. Do not use these people. Also my alarm was set off by someone showing the house. And I was put on hold for 10 min because he couldn't tell me which account was set off. I have a business one as well. I hung up raced to my house leaving work. Fearing for my pets safety. Bullshit if I could post 0 stars I would read more

Avoid at all cost. After using them for close to 3 years there is absolutely no way I can get the "service" canceled (I'm moving so kind of can't keep the service). Their customer service is completely incompetent and cannot say anything that is not in the script in front of them no matter what they ask about. read more

This company sucks! We had this system for 10 years and when I initially signed up, it was a 3 year contract. Equipment was substandard and went a few months without it even working. Finally, I decided to change companies. I called to cancel and was harassed by the representative about why I was canceling. I was informed that I could not cancel by phone. Tried to email and was also rejected. Their associates are rude and not helpful at all. Now, I am told, I have to give a 30 day written notice to cancel, What a bunch of crap! Just another ploy to get more money out of their customer. Do NOT use Monitronics! read more

Worst company in the world! Scammers run this company.. No response when a break in happens. We had a break in, and had to call this alarm company and the police ourselves after our alarm was triggered. read more

AWFUL!!! Both myself and the guy supplying the equipment were under the impression it was a 3 year contact. Come to find out it's a 60 month contract. Even the equipment guy didn't know Monitronics had contracts over 3 years. So I kept the service for 4 years, barely even using it for the last year. Now I have moved out of the country and called to cancel. They told me to fill out an online document and that I would get a final bill by email and that I could negotiate that down. I filled out the electronic document as instructed and waited for the bill to appear in my inbox. Next thing I know, I have been charged the monthly fee and received a letter in the mail in Austin (I told them I could not correspond via mail because I am not in Austin) saying that my cancellation request was denied. My parents brought me my mail when they came to visit. I have now spent well over an hour on the phone with Monitronics trying to get to the bottom of it. They have used every technique in the book to gas light, twist my words, and confuse me so as to get the most money out of me as possible even though they are no longer providing a service for me. read more

If I can give Monotronics a big fat 0 stars I would!!!!! The service is pure garbage!!!!!! I have tried to cancel my service for many years and I couldn't because the process was so hard and they make it so difficult. I finally was able to cancel it with the help of a friend of mine who was a lawyer. DO NOT USE MONOTRONICS!!! read more

This company is terrible!!! Do not use them at any price. We were set up with them by a home services company and liked the low rates. After the system was installed we could not get the panel to accept our security code. After trying many times I tried to call Monitronics (that was their name) and found myself on hold for 3 hours before giving up! I tried several more time over the next month and got the same results. I chose the option for new business on one call and got right to a person who said they couldn't help me and sent me to the endless hold. We have basically had no alarm for 3 years and have paid for it. I don't know what changed but today I got a person on the line that could cancel my service and they tried very hard to keep my business. When they realized it was my intent to cancel not matter what they got rude and short and informed me that I would have to pay for another month of the service I'm not getting until they process the cancellation. This company is terrible. I will make a point of letting everybody know. You can't do business like this and get away with it. I'm contacting the news stations today as well as hitting every on line review location I can find. DO NOT USE THEM!!! read more

On 5/27/15, I called Monotronics to close my account on 6/03/15 and explained that I sold my home and was moving. At that time, I was told to send a letter to the "move department" and that it may take 30 days to close my account in full. When I asked why and if I would be billed in full, the agent said I would receive the final bill on 6/15/15. Since my payments were being debited from my checking account, I was concerned about being charged for a full month again. Anyway, I sent the letter to the "move department" and hoped for the best. I received a letter on 6/19/15 from stating that my services had ended on 6/03/15 along with thanking me for being a valued customer. After reviewing my checking account I noticed a debit on 6/17/15 for the next service period which began on 6/15/15 through 7/15/15. When I called to ask why I was being charged for service at a house I no longer live in, I was told that the cancellation process takes 30 days from the time the letter is received by the "Move Department"...really? The agent also said the letter was not received until 6/22/15 so I could expect another billing and then a final bill. I told him my service ended on 6/3/15 so what am I paying for? I was transferred to the "Move Department" where I was told that the process to close an account was typically handled by the "Cancellation Team" via a telephone call to the customer but since I was already on the phone, I could be transferred. When I spoke with the agent from the "Cancellation team" he seemed to have no idea why I was transferred so I recapped my issue and expected him to follow some formal close process to cancel my account. The agent was rude and told me it takes 30 days to close the account and the I would continue being billed until the 30 days elapsed. I hung up with him and contacted the BBB then my bank to dispute the charges. read more

The worst company I've ever dealt with. Once installed, the installer refused to show us how to use the system. I called Monitronics and they were going to charge us to come out & show us how to use the system. My 2 year contract couldn't end soon enough. When I asked to cancel after my 2 years, they refused. Took 4 months & reporting them to the BBB. Then they had the nerve to charge a partial month after I finally got it cancelled. WORST customer service ever. read more

Avoid this security company like the plague. Almost impossible to cancel service. Be prepared to listen to dozens of questions why you want to cancel and then dozens of attempts why you shouldn't "we are concerned for your safety". Finally after you have told the representative 10 times you simply want to cancel your service. She'll explain a process where you provide monitronics with information and once they receive the information your service will be cancelled thirty days after they receive the information from you. read more

First of all, we signed up with another security company and then Monitronics took over. No letter. No phone call. Nada. Then Zone 0 low battery. there is no battery. It's plugged in. we tell them this and nothing resolved. they asked us to take off the cover. No it didn't work. Constant phone calls at various times.. Nothing. Then, we move. We provided info the new owners. It's up to them, right? Well, they tell us we have to continue to pay on our "contract". I don't live there anymore. Really, making me pay for poor customer service, poor communication and now for when I'm not there. I'm wondering if it really worked if we truly had an emergency. Now that i read the rest of the reviews. I wonder even more. read more

Customer service with this company is the worst. They took over my contract from another company. The original contract included an amount that was to pay off the equipment. At the end of the contract, the price was to drop to just the monitoring fee. However, Monitronics continued to charge the extra amount after the contract period ended. After trying to get that resolved for a few months, we ended up going to another company. But now we're having trouble getting Monitronics to actually cancel the service and stop billing us. read more

I used Monitronics home alarm system for several years. One day the alarm started to sound the error message with continuous beeping. When I called the tech supports, without any reason, the man on the line started yelling at me for no reason. I figured he has a bad day, and didn't bother to file a complaint. However, in his annoying tone he confirmed that the alarm battery is due, and the replacement would take two weeks to deliver to me, at the cost of three times what Radio Shack would charged. Since we can't bear the annoying "beeping" a day longer, we have another alarm company installed a new system the following day. When I called Monitronics to cancel the services. They informed me that there would be another 30 days service charge from the day of canceling the services, and they needed me to write a letter to make it official. Well, the check has been sent and again they want another $6.74 late fee. Clearly these people are out to punish you and rob you. Don't do it! read more

I had such similiar problems with monitronics as the reviews here! They are the worst company to deal with from the very beginning with the "techs" that knocked on my door and preceeded to give me all half truths about the security service and alarm systems! I have had to deal with them for my whole 3 years, waiting for the end of my contract! I could not afford to buy out of it. The techs caught on to me saying that I was looking into getting a life alert monitor and I was a gonner after that because the "used car sales" tactics they used. I only got the system because he told me that I basically get the life alert free, so I thought it was a good deal, being life alert was just 8.00 less a mo. by itself. And i was getting alarm systems, etc. too! YAY!! Ha. Little did I know! I didnt find out until after my 3 day grace period was over,,that the handheld monitor was just an alert to EITHER the police dept OR the FD. And it has no commicating device, so My first problem,,, called cust serv. And they said SORRY cant help ya,, on a 3 yr contract! Within 3 mos. I got at least 7 calls of false or alarms from front and or back doors, they wouldnt fix cause it was my prob. They said,,, few mos later, tried to use the service I was told they would help me sell my system and contract if I ran into financial difficulties,, called custServ.,,,,he laughed at me! Literally, he said the company will install the alarms IF I FIND someone willing to take over my contract,,BUT, I would still be responsible if that new customer defaulted! WHAT? Told him all I was told by his sales guys... He said no mam. Ok, can I take advantage of the "temporary pmt reduction"? He said ok, transferred me several times, explained 3 x,, got a drop of bout 30%,,, but, but not told it would go on the end of my contract!! This I found out after opening a bottle of champagne at the end of my original contract, and happily dialing to CANCEL my contract only to be told I had 3 more mos.!!! You can imagine my words, feelings, etc at that point!! Into about 7 mos of my contract, i was late with my pmt., got behind, so even tho I added 7.00 on each pmt, trying to catch up, I got, and i am NOT kidding here,, 7 to 12 calls a DAY, EVERYDAY! Got texts, voivemails, hang ups, auto calls!! Started to save them until my archive was over 200 calls, texts and my voice mails dropped after 3 mos. i would answer and try hard to get them to stop, told them I am adding little on my pmt. but he told me he cant stop the calls unless I am up to date on my acct. Isnt that awful? I told him thats harrasement, which he said I could call thier corporate, but it is a policy to "notify" the customer and try to "help" them be current to avoid late fees!! WOW So end of contract finally here, I call to cancel,, and yep, got the,, "you have to contact the LOYALTY dept., and then send a letter, and it takes 30 DAYS!!" And mam,, the dept is only open M-F, 8a to 5p, EST! When I said that is just a way to extort more money from people, I could hear him actually GROWL at me,, and get pretty rude! I sent 2 registered mail, and 2 reg. Snail mail, detail explanation and all the info they said to have on them. Mark, from Corporate, no less!!,,, called me today, he says, " i just wanted to ask you why you were cancelling to verify the letter is from you"!!! Omgosh, they just do not quit! I said just tell me my final bill and last, last, last day I am chained to you guys! PLEASE, chase away any sales people, who come to your door and say Monitronics!! Hope word gets around about this awful company. One star is way too good for them! read more

Last Oct I called this company and asked about lower rates. They said I had the best rate. This lead me to search for another security company. When we found our new provider I called Monitronics and they attempted to resolve our concern. It was too little too late even though they offered to reduce by $20. They should of known that we would be searching for another company. I wrote them a letter of cancellation on May 24th, now they were already given verbal notice. They now want to continue to charge us through June 27th. We are furious. This is not an ethical company. We have never had such poor service. Our alarm went off many times and I think in the last 3 years we heard from them one time. Crappy service. Do not use this fly by night company. Do business with someone that has a call center in the community you live in. They are over priced and border dishonesty. read more

After 2yrs with Monitronics i resigned a contract for 5 yrs with another branch of theirs . I have 19 months and moving out of state on a fixed income. The company refuses to work with the elderly and long time customers. There customer service is terrible, as the refuse to work with you and push to have you sign a new contract with them to the place you are moving to for "another 5 yrs but installation is free with updated equipment". I would not recommend this company at all. read more

WOW, just WOW! BEWARE and STAY AWAY...I wish there was a way not to even provide a star rating as this company doesn't even deserve that much. Started with this company almost 4 years ago and have had mediocre service at best. We have not been under contract with them for over 2 years. We decided to cancel our service with them and after three phone call attempts to cancel I was told that I had to wait for the billing department to send an email with a doc-sign in order to cancel. I completed the document sign prior to the end of the billing cycle. However, they still decided they would bill me for the next month service. I called to explain to them that I had canceled my service with them prior to the billing cycle and they tried to tell me that they would not terminate my service with them until the 28th of this month. I told them that this was unacceptable begin that I filled out and sent back the email before the billing date and that I would not be paying this bill. Furthermore if they choose to not honor my termination notice I would fight them with the Better Business Bureau and credit reporting agency. I hope that this helps save someone else from experience this complete headache. What ever you do think twice about using this company. It appears that others have had less than stellar service from them as well. read more

This is a review of the new version and equipment of the Monitronic's alarm system. I moved into a new house in July 2016. After hearing about Monitronics- or Moni as it is now called, I decided to go ahead and have their system installed. I couldn't be happier. DESIGN: Not only is the control panel updated technology, but it is easy to navigate and goes dark when not in use (rather than constantly seeing the alarm screen as you walk by it). You can customize different alarm codes for different people who might need access. Family, friends, nanny's, cleaning companies, as well as temporary codes for maintenance workers. It is easy to monitor who goes in and out of your house bu the alerts you get when each specific code is used. I also love that I get text messages alerting me if my alarm was not turned on or if a window or door was left open. I can easily set my alarm from my phone. The system will also let you know if a sensor is not working, as was the case recently for me. No one will call you, but you will get alerted my text or email as well as an alert on your control panel. In our case, we were able to fix the sensor and didn't have to call for someone to come out. CAMERAS: Another feature I love are the cameras. We recently had a break in and we were able to catch the man on our cameras and report him to the police. The only catch is that the cameras only go back a couple days. We discovered the break in the next day and were able to look back through the recorded video to find him. All this was done on our phone! It makes it a great tool to use if you happen to have people going by your house, you want to check in on your family, or in our case, make sure the pups aren't destroying everything. Only thing that would make this better is a speaker system you could use to talk through your phone- or in my case, get the attention of our animals :) I also love the idea of the keyless entry they have. For a onetime fee, they will install the lock and you have the ability of giving different people different entry codes and tracking their use from your phone. CUSTOMER SERVICE: The installation crew was also amazing. They were knowledgable, respectful of the house, and made sure we were completely satisfied before leaving. JOHN was our go to guy during this entire process. He was extremely accommodating, explained all our options, the best place to put our cameras, and made sure our cameras were working on our phones before leaving. He also followed up with us to see how we were enjoying our system after it was installed. Luckily, in the 7 months we have had our system, it has not gone off, so I am not able to review the protocol and handling of that. I do know that we were explained that if the police were to be called and had to come, that there would be a city fee for their involvement. More to be reviewed when/if that ever happens. read more

What a horrible company. Stuck for 3 years with the absolute worse customer service I've experienced. I have this company and they are terrible. Customer service people will not call you back and the one time I spoke to them they were really rude. My alarm has gone off by itself 10 times and now my system says that the window is open when nothing is. I would give this company zero stars if I could. They were absolutely useless. In our three year contract we never received one phone call when our alarm went off. After our contract was up about four months ago, we switched back to ADT. We tried calling several times before we had the system turned off and couldn't even get through. I was put on hold for 10 minutes at a time. Even when ADT cut the system, we didn't get a phone call asking what happened. NOTHING! We finally reached them and told them we were canceling. Seemed taken care of. Well it wasn't. We have received phone calls every two weeks saying our account is still open and we owe them money. Every time we talk to them they ask for something different to close the account. They have requested a letter be sent in the mail (who sends letters anymore?!) which we have sent, they requested emails which we have sent, and we have spoken to at least a dozen people or more. They even sent us to collections. This might result in us contacting our attorney. DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY!!! read more

I have been trying since Feb 13, 2017 to have my alarm service repaired and I have called several times and the supervisors of customer care, inform me that the company that repairs your alarm system is waiting for parts. This Company Sucks! When I wanted to cancel my account with them, it was extremely hard to do so. I spent hours on the phone of them trying to scare me into keeping it as well as trying to convince me as why I need it. My call went to several people trying to save their business. They even lowered the monthly payment to try to keep me but I wanted nothing to do with them after all the hard sells. When they FINALLY allowed me to cancel I had to send in a letter for cancelation which could take 30 days and in the meantime they still Bill you for the month while they get acceptance of wanting to cancel. That should be illegal and I'm sure it is somehow. If there is ever a Class Action Lawsuit on this company I will gladly join in! I will never deal with this company again! I originally had signed up with B&D Security and somehow ended up with Monitronics. I guess my account was sold off to them. If I could had put no stars I would have! Buyer Beware!!!!! Horrible experience attempting to cancel service. They make cancellation very difficult. Even when I just through all of their hoops (phone, physical/regular mail letter) they said I was on a 5 year plan (not true).
