3.7.24 Horrible Service. I went and used 2 bowls one for my meat and one for vegetables. No where by the bowls and plates does it say 1 bowl for 1 plate... so I assumed I only had one plate, I didn't go back for a 2nd plate. We had a table of 7.. 5 with one plate and 2 with 2 plates. We got our bill, and it was wrong.. we questioned her, and she showed us a sign that no one would see when walking in as it is on the board where you pay. Mind you it said LUNCH.. Either way, i asked her to remove the additional 4bucks and she said No! That would have been fine.. I decided since she wasn't going to honor my one plate that I was going to be a bi&ch and go up and make an additional plate! I took my 5 dollar tip and gave it to the cook! I took the cooked meal and put it on my table. She came back to me and said she had to charge me for takeout.. absolutely not! Lol The worst service and attitude from anyone ever!!!!! read more

We went for dinner. We were there at 4:20 to guarantee getting a table for our group. The doors opened at 4:45. Then some time after that, the griddle was turned on so we still had to wait to cook our food. Some of the meat (the pork for instance) had been sitting there since lunchtime as it was completely thawed out. They asked if they should bring us new fresh meat. (You need to ask?) The food was good although there were gnats flying around the vegetables. Can't control nature, I suppose. Be careful about choosing your sauces and oils. The labeling on the spit guard is confusing. Several of the labels were missing. There was no working ice cream machine and the dessert table was almost empty. Maybe it was too early at 5 pm. Check the prices BEFORE you sit down to eat. I've included a current picture of what Google and also Yelp show as being the current prices. They had no problem charging us $20.99 for our AYCE meals. This was a Friday afternoon, not weekend. Absolutely no flavor. They use to have a posted recipe for measuring the sauces but now it's gone.

No reservations needed. We went around 6pm and it wasn't busy at all. We get a pot of rice and bread for free which was really good. The place is on the smaller side but that isn't a problem. The food area is small compared to other Mongolian places. They have about 5 selections of meats and a good amount of veggies and sauces. They also have a dessert bar which is I haven't seen in other places which is a plus. read more

I love how interactive the eating experience is (going down the buffet line to pick out your meat, veggies, noodles and sauces and then watching the chef cook it) I also love that they bring out fresh rice and some sesame biscuits to go with it. My only nitpick is that this meal is a bit heavy but that's expected when you're getting stir fry noodles. Their soft serve ice cream and brownie is the perfect way to end the meal though. read more

Very rude staff. Last time I will come here and give them my money. They give attitude for questions asked. I arrived payed for food first,odd. I asked about the biscuits that came with the meal. Was told with an attitude they don't serve that at lunch. So I said I won't pay the full price if I am not getting what is said on the menu. The lame who started with the attitude said "fine", very professional. The "chef" then told me that I needed to put more liquid in my food, also with an attitude. Overall, the owner doesn't care about the quality of food or staff they hire. The "workers" don't care about their job either and are allowed to talk to customers however they want. What a disappointment. My family used to love LOVE this place. We couldn't wait to come back after COVID regulations eased up. We decided to go there tonight to celebrate my birthday. They were low on proteins, and half the sauces were missing. When we left to pay I was shocked by the amount. We are a family of four. One of my kids counted as an adult (10 and over). Apparently on weekends they only offer the all you can eat plate. Not once were we told this when we were seated or throughout our meal. We spent a lot of money on food that wasn't even that good. WOW. This was, bar none, the best Mongolian BBQ experience I have ever had in my life. The owner personally greeted us at the door, where we mentioned it was our first time here. He courteously showed us around and explained that on weekends it's all you can eat only--we eat like horses, so this was PERFECT. He continued to make small talk with us and mentioned that he and his family had loved the restaurant so much that when they found out it was for sale, they bought it to keep it open, and how much pride he had in the business. He also came by our table with complimentary soup and some amazing bread. The selection is great as well, everything we made was amazing. The staff on the whole are super friendly and accommodating. Alright, story time. This place is atrocious. It's pretty hard to mess up stir fried noodles with meat and veggies that YOU put together. But, I guess not. We went on a weekday at 6:30pm. We walked in, and it was hot AF. They didn't even turn on the AC and it's the summer. The hot wok in the middle of the restaurant will trump any beach weather. So, the atmosphere was extremely stuffy, I have no clue how anyone was actually eating in there. We said we wanted 2 to-go orders. So they said okay, go right ahead and fill up your bowl. Yes, BOWL. One tiny bowl. It's like the size of a miso soup bowl. And the meat was literally DEFROSTED. It's usually supposed to be curled up and frozen. So I had to fill my tiny, tiny bowl and I always sauce up my noodles with 5 spoons of chili oil. Then I walked over to the cook and he started cooking in front of us. Let me tell you how ridiculous it was watching this. He wasn't using 2 bamboo stick-spatulas. He was using ONE large machete looking knife thing to cook. He CUT UP my meat and noodles. On top of that, he practically poured a whole pitcher of water onto my noodles diluting all the sauce and flavor. At that time, I was thinking - well, the pandemic just ended, whatever. The noodles cant be that disgusting. After he finished cooking, he brought our plates where people get food NEAR THE RAW MEAT SECTION. Talk about contamination! Also, I'd like to see who is touching my food...since there are people getting food while my food is just sitting there. The waitress puts it in a box and ties it up and meets us by the hostess table where we will go to pay. She tells me the total is $32 (with tax). I literally looked at her and said, "for this tiny bowl, it's $14 each?" and she said, "yep! but we give you rice and biscuits!" YOU'RE JOKING. Rice is like $0.00001 cents and I don't want your stale crunchy biscuit with my bland noodles. ALSO they do not put pricing ANYWHERE. We go home and we unbox our food. The food has absolutely no flavor and they put it on top of mushy, mushy rice. Do you not know how to cook jasmine rice? Look at the water:rice ratio, bro. Absolutely dreadful. If I had known that it would cost $32 for us to toss our bland food, I'd never walk inside. Here's a tip to the owner. Saw that the Dodgers were playing on TV. That could only mean one thing....you pay a truckload monthly for the Sports package with Spectrum, and nobody's watching your TV! You might as well cancel that, and use that money to turn on the AC so your employees are not struggling and people will actually eat and tip your waiters by dining in. Also, do not use that machete knife looking thing to cook Mongolian BBQ. Everything was literally shredded. Make sure your meats are stocked and not defrosting. And quit pouring all that water on the sauced up bowl. You're WASTING sauce. Ridiculous. Don't waste your time here. Completely, and utterly unacceptable. I was recommended this place by friends who raved about it, only to find out it didn't live up to the hype. Upon taking a few bites and inspecting why there was such a strong char taste, I found pieces and chips of the grill the food was cooked on. Intertwined, under and over pieces of meat, noodles and rice. You can clearly see in one of the photos just how large and revolting the charred flakes look compared to the fork. Especially after spending about $75 for a few plates for my family and I, I find it unappetizing and completely disrespectful to have spent that much to receive so little value in what I ordered. read more

Super disappointed in this place. The food has no flavor, although cooked in front of your eyes, it tasted bland like cardboard. The interior was dirty and unkept. There is no menu or labels or anything at all to know what the price is or what they offer. We couldn't find the chef to cook the food and no one around to ask for help. We didn't know until we left that it was $20.50 for ONE bowl of noodles. Not worth the price at all. The fruit and dessert things were included but they looked burned and the fruit was all gone so we didn't get any. The salad had stale crispies and the salad was old (bitter tasting). This was our first time at Mongol King, as we entered we were greeted by a gentleman and he sat us down immediately and asked if we wanted any drinks. Very welcoming. The selection of meats, vegetables and sauces were good. The basic original sauce was almost empty but there were other sauces to choose from as other options. The green salad was basic but fresh. The dessert choices were limited but they were everyday basic items plus there was a soft service machine. Overall, it was good. The gentleman who cooked your food was friendly and he got your food done within several minutes, The wait time was less than 5 minutes. The only thing that needs to be done is to update their price, on the Yelp menu is shows $12.99 but the cost is actually $20.99. $8.00 is a huge difference per person. I used to go to The Golden Camel on Hawthorne for decades...many decades, but it seems they've removed their wok/grill plate. I looked up Mongolian BBQ on the internet and found Mongolian King on PCH just North of Artesia. It's a big place, casual and you go for only one thing - Mongolian BBQ, so no need for menu. The buffet is just like my old place and the sauces, the most important part for flavor, are mostly the same. All you can eat is about $23.00 I think. (A far cry from my first time in 1978 when it was $4.99 for all you can eat!) The line around the wok can get pretty long but it moves well and the table service is friendly and efficient; the place is clean for the quick turnaround of customers they have to serve. It can get busy, so don't go there around lunch or dinner time and expect to be in and out. I usually go between 1:30 and 4:00 and it's great! I like it!! I'm planning on going for my veggies on a regular basis. About once a week! hahaha! Seriously, nice Mongolian BBQ place. I recommend it! read more

Torrance Food Crawl #201 I've eaten at Mongol King, or their predecessor, whose name I've forgotten, a couple of times 20+ years ago. There was an initial novelty to the large wok when it first opened but the end result was rather average and it wasn't until today that I returned. Today I ordered the one serving option, rather than an all-you-can-eat option, so there was only one trip to the food bar with my choice. I initially took a plate as they were by the food area but someone came over and took the plate from me and said I was supposed to use a bowl. Okay. The selection of stir fry ingredients was about normal for a Mongolian wok place. There were about four meat choices, I chose to just partake of chicken, which was frozen and thinly sliced. Despite being initially frozen the chicken turned out well once cooked on the flat wok. There was a choice of round noodles and/or soybean sprouts, as well as a dozen different vegetable choices that could be added. After providing the bowl to the cook I was reminded about the different sauces. I grabbed another bowl and quickly took a few different scoops from the dozen or so options. I was toward the tail end of another group of people who had ordered before me so the wok was partially cleaned, but not thoroughly. After cooking on the wok the entire dish was then transferred to a plate. I think that is one reason why I found that the collection of items ended up tasting very much the same. There wasn't as much taste variety as I normally would have in a stir fry dish. I don't know if there would have more taste difference from an absolutely clean wok surface or not. There was also a choice of rice or what I heard as bread (might have been biscuit) on the side, I opted for rice, which came in an ample portion in a separate bowl. read more

It was too hot at home to cook so I thought we would go out this evening. I should've known as soon as we sat down that the air was not working properly inside the restaurant and the doors were open and it was actually cooler outside than inside. I wanted to get this place a chance and I'm disappointed that I didn't walk out when I had that first impression of a dirty plate. Typically the meat is dried and it was so hot a lot of the meat had started to defrost which was my second clue. The produce looked OK but when I got to the end for the sauces it looked like my dog played it in with his paws sauce was splattered everywhere with no chart on how to properly get the right mix. Luckily that guy cleaned the grill before he put our food on needless to say I couldn't wait to get out of there. I will not be returning and pray I don't wake up sick tomorrow. read more
