I really didn't want to have to write this review because David is SUCH a nice guy; but now I too agree with previous reviewers about his lack of response and follow through. Some red flags: There's no contract with Dave. He undercuts his competition with very fairly priced bids, but I remember when I agreed to write him a check for a year of service, he said you just have to trust him and yourself to be a good judge of character (which I do!). He was really on the ball at first. But things started to slip a month or so in with missed or late meetings; slow response to texts or phone calls and excuses. Lots and lots of those. Which I get, I have two toddlers! #life We've made it about 9 months into our "contract" year and I've completely lost touch with him. He was able to trap the rats we had in our attic, and seemingly reinforce barriers outside - but it's going to be a continual grind at our house (as in most in Austin) to continue to defend/protect. I have several friends I had recommended him to since this is such a common issue in our neighborhood/area but without the consistency and follow-through, I no longer think I can recommend his business. read more

I've had some good experiences with Dave/Monarch and some bad. I messaged him in December 2015 about getting my attic treated for squirrels and he missed the appointment because of an issue with transportation. This first missed appointment I understood, and the next time I asked when he was going to come seal my chimney etc, he said it had been done already. Not terribly clear with communication, but the price was pretty good and he did as he said. At this point I'd have given a 4 star review. Starting in June I messaged him about hearing things on/in my roof, which would be covered by the year warranty he gave me, as well as asking him to look at whether there were hornets making a nest in my attic. It is now September. I sent several emails that weren't answered, and there was one day I stayed home from work to show him the area I was concerned with, because he said he'd be there, and he never came by. I tried once more to schedule a time and that didn't work. At this point I've given up, and want others to know the issues I've experienced. Dave is very kind, seems to know what he's doing, and his prices are good. However he isn't good at communication or meeting expectations he's set. Update - after I wrote this review he wrote me asking if he could come out and resolve the issue, which is good follow up on a review. I chose not to do so since I still don't have faith in him meeting the expectations he's set, however I respect that he wanted to make things right. read more

Dave is great! I recently had a raccoon move into my home with her 4 babies. Not only did she show up uninvited, she also placed her babies in my wall. Dave was quick to respond to my call of distress. He set traps and monitored them daily until we were able to catch the mother. He then removed the babies from the wall (with my permission) and relocated the family as a unit. I was out of town when this happened and he was nice enough to send me the capture and release videos so that I knew they were all safe in a new home. He continues to perfume my quarterly maintenance and we have been pest free for some time now. read more

Very nice guy, Dave is English and very personable did a great job will call him again...............he took care of a few wasps and had to point them out to Dave. He went and took care of the fire ants in front of the house. He did put new bug traps which in fact WORK VERY WELL. Thank you Dave .............good job. I cannot speak highly enough of Dave's service, knowledge and abilities. Dave has been keeping my home pest free for more than four years. He came to us in the midst of a rodent issue and quickly assessed what needed to be done WITHOUT being an alarmist (read: ridiculously overpriced like the other pest people and exclusion people I talked to ) and worked with us to get the issue under control. In the early stages Dave gave us his cell phone and he would come would come out the same day if something got caught in the traps, even though the company he worked for at the time would often say they couldn't do anything for days. Dave has never once tried to sell me something I didn't need. He listens to me, he understands what it is I want regarding pest control and he provides it effectively at a fantastic price. He is pleasant, professional and has always treated everyone I've referred him to as we'll as he's treated me. We recently purchased a new home and I called Dave to come out and inspect it during my option period. I wanted to pay him for his time but he wouldn't take it. He's a stand up guy! read more

Dave Brown (the owner) is who comes out and does all the work! He was very thorough....he sprayed every nook & cranny in my house. He did not leave a mess and he guarantees his work. Within 1 day, I started finding dead bugs everywhere. I know several people who use Monarch Services and swear by Dave. His prices are definitely competitive (I shopped around!). Dave was telling me that he also offers wildlife services - he humanely traps wildlife/critters that are being bothersome. Good to know! Animal control is rarely available when we need them! I've used Monarch Services for about 4 years. The first couple years, he was great. The past couple of years things have gone downhill. There have been two times where Dave didn't show up at all when we had an appointment and too many times to count when he didn't respond to texts and phone calls in a timely manner if at all. I've finally decided I need to move on and find a different company now that I've tried to contact him by text, phone call, and even by submitting a message to him through his website but have received no response to any of those. I waited about a week in between each contact method trying to be patient and give him time, but still nothing. read more

When I heard scurrying in our attic, I knew we needed help. My good friend recommended David and he was great. He trimmed a tree and vine that were acting as a rodent superhighway, and screened off the points of entry. He also set some traps. I was glad to hear that he doesn't use anticoagulants to slowly torture the critters. I care about the wildlife in our neighborhood (hawks, owls, etc) that aren't in my attic and wouldn't want to poison them with slow moving sick rats. My dogs are also safer since there aren't poisoned rats for them to catch. David also has a great personality and is thoughtful, courteous, and reasonably priced too! read more

I texted and e mailed Dave explaining I needed the spraying done by the end of the week. He assured me that was not a problem. However, when he was contacted via text to schedule a time for spraying he said he couldn't do it until Monday. An appointment was set for 12-2 on Monday. He didn't show up. He said the appointment was Tuesday and we needed to wait until then. However, clearly the text read Monday. He lied, not once but twice. I do not recommend you use this company. If he lies, he is dishonest and not to be trusted. read more

Dave is the perfect Austin business---kind and HONEST! I had some termites show up inside my 1960's house and naturally I freaked out. Called him and left a message, he called within the hour and came out in the next on his way to another job! He asked questions and poked around the perimeter of my house and looked at old termite damage from when I first moved in years ago. He explained that they were swarming right now and not to worry---he couldn't find any current evidence of termites. He put my mind at ease and refused to take a dime. Of course, I had to pay him in fresh eggs from my hens for that lovely service. I will definitely call him again if I have any future pests! read more

I have to say that Monarch lived up to it's praises on here, and I am completely satisfied with my choice to use David. I hate to edit this, because David as a person is great, but after three months or so, working with Monarch became a huge challenge. He missed 3 meetings in a row-- I figured he'd lost the key I made him-- so I left another under the mat (giving him the opportunity to make another without him having to admit he'd lost it). After I mentioned I'd left a key, he showed up on-time, and I'd hoped our problems had been solved. The next several months he continued to miss appointments, not return texts, then say he hadn't received messages I'd sent. This could be true! But if it was, I believe he is obligated as a business to invest in a means of communication that is reliable. After enough missed appointments and lack of follow-through around communication, I gave up. I sent him a message telling him I'd no longer like to work with him, and asked him to return the key. He apologized, was kind, and agreed to return the key ASAP. I got no reimbursement for discontinuing services three months before our verbal "contract" was up, nor did I ever get my key returned. Dave is awesome!!!! Another business (who will go unnamed) came out when I found some rats in the back shed. Long story short, they offered me some very expensive services for rodent removal and attic sealing ($1000) total. First off, Dave offered half that price. But going even further, he came out to my place, tool a look and said "I don't think I can charge you anything. I don't think you really have a big problem." He took a good look in my attic and reassured me that everything looks fine. He took me around the house and pointed out some areas to seal. Then he gave me some tips on how I can seal up the roof vents. The other guy wanted $600 just for sealing the attic. Dave left a rat trap for free and said "let me know what you catch!" Really great guy. Very refreshing experience from a true professional that wants to do good business - not just make money. read more

Dave was very responsive and showed a lot of integrity. During renovation of our 1983 bathroom, we found what seemed to be the remains of old termite infestation. Dave came out in a timely manner and assessed the damage. He determined that the old infestation had already been treated and there was no need to retreat. He did not charge for coming out and that was very much appreciated! I would definitely recommend him and call him again for any other pest control needs we have. read more

Dave Brown is super responsible and a great communicator. He's easy to get ahold of when you need him and responds promptly to your pest control needs. He completed both indoor and outdoor treatment while working around an air-conditioning guy I had on site at the same time. Dave pointed out a few places that had been missed by a rodent exclusion team and said that he'd seal them for me if the original company wouldn't come back out to fix the problem. He also gave me a recommendation for a sticky wrap that he's going to install on the lines running from the main power lines to the house to discourage unwanted furry visitors. The reviews saying that Dave doesn't show up for appointments are very consistent with my experience. He seemed to come up with good excuses, until he seemed to forget he had already used that excuse with me. Not sure its because he would consistently miss appts and then not return calls or because he isnt very good at trapping rats, but he never seemed to get them under control before just stopping returning my calls all together. All of this a few months after I was given the impression my house had been sealed up and I had a one year guarantee of being rat free. Turns out he had not done any sealing originally. If he had, I would not have experienced the costly destruction that followed. Once he stopped returning calls I had no choice but to hire a new company. They were quickly successful in getting rid of the rats and truly sealing up my house. They charged me more than Monarch up front, but the amount it cost me in time, anxiety and pure destruction by rats hiring Dave was much more expensive. I highly recommend hiring anyone but Dave. read more
