I arrived here at 840a on a Thursday morning and while I was bummed they sold out of apple fritters and there was bit of a wait while the woman in front of me was chit-chatting with the owner, I adored the old school vibes (no indoor seating, just a window decorated with family photos and the display of donuts available). I was able to score street parking in front and when I expressed my sadness that there weren't anymore Apple fritters (just need to call or text to have it reserved for you), he super kindly gave us a box of 4 donuts!! I tried to "tip" but he made me put away my money before giving us the goods. I've only tried the famous crumble so far and it is AMAZING - super fresh, light, mildly sweet and puffy... I could easily polish off all 4 of these donuts but I will attempt to share and will definitely be back, cash only!

I have to preface that I'm not a donut person. That's because I don't like the taste of grease usually associated with donuts. A friend of mine raved about this place so I stopped by to check it out on my way to the 1st tee at Santa Anita golf course. Unfortunately, the donuts here are no exception to the greasy taste. The donuts are quite soft and fluffy. So soft that I'd almost say they lack the requisite texture. The famed apple fritter actually fell apart as I tried to pick it up. It was also the greasiest of the donuts I tried. It literally felt like the oil was oozing as I chewed the donut. The raisin croissant/danish had a decent texture; but, it had sort of cheesy note to it which was unexpected. I also must mention that the prices are quite reasonable and the portions were generous.

Jet lag has its benefits. I've been getting up before 5am and decided to hit up Monarch. They open at 5am and usually sells out in a few hours. I wanted to try their apple fritter many people in my area are talking about. I've never been a fan of it but this is really good. It has a slight crisp outer crust, lighter airy inside with a nice glaze. Also got a maple crumb donut. It's larger than other places, covered with crumbs for texture. Both were fresh and perfect with coffee. I usually don't eat the whole thing, but finished both of these in one sitting. The owner is great and super friendly. We engaged in a chat and I could've talked to him much longer except there was another customer waiting in the pre-dawn cold, so I excused myself. When I got there at 5:30, there were already people leaving with boxes, so I'm not sure what I missed. If you're up early and nearby, go get some!

Shout out to Jonathan!! What a pleasure to deal with such a nice human being. I was able to secure some of the yummy apple fritters, donut holes and old fashioned. The apple fritter was bouncy, airy and had chunks of apples inside. You don't feel bad for eating the whole thing but it is big so you can save some for later. The donut holes were so good even a day after being bought. Just amazing of how it holds the texture and glaze so well. Old fashion was moist and not dense but still has the vibe of a cake like donut. He is only open from 5-9am and usually sells out. I will sure be back!

I had to do a review just cause that apple fritter donut BUSSIN!. It was the right sweetness not too sweet and not too over powering off nutmeg or cinnamon it was just right. I am glad I was able to try this donut from a lovely customer that drop it off I will mos def visit this spot for more of those apple fritters.

I have the option to go to a donut shop that is just a few steps in front of the gym, but decided to make a trip out to Monarch Donuts. So glad I decided to make the trip. Donuts are moist and soft. I did not read any reviews and had no idea this place was so popular. Spoke to the owner and he was nice and made some good recommendations. I am not a donut person but have to say I would eat a donut from this place any day.

My bf and I ran here. The owner hooked us up with cold waters which were very appreciated. The price was reasonable and I remembered to bring cash! Apple fritter bf review 9.1/10 - "texture is soft and fluffy. The dough itself is quite moist but not wet. There is cinnamon throughout and the glaze adds a sweetness. The Apple is cooked perfectly. And it's a great Apple fritter. It certainly is delicious" My review 8.2/10 - I dont like cooked fruit or most donuts. But I loved it. I appreciate how non-greasy it is and how non-oily it tastes. It's not overly sweet like other donuts I've had. The Apple is pleasant and the way the fritter is made is pretty cool. It's like clumps of dough and not one dough piece like a normal donut. I also enjoy how the dough is not crazy dense for a fritter and it's fluffy and cooked throughout. Cinnamon crumb donut Bf review 7.3/10 - "if you love cinnamon and sugar, this is the donut for you. Light, fluffy, with many layers in between. This donut will make your morning" My review 6/10 - very fluffy dough. It has a cooling effect on my tongue (stevia). I taste a little more oil. Donut holes Bf review 7.8/10 - "delicious. Glaze is sweet but not overly sweet. It's fluffy, spongey texture. It's quite good." My review 7.8/10 - "very light dough. The glaze is not covering the hole but Im into it!"

I always notice this shop when I drove by, but it was always closed. I was being curious, and found out that this donut shop only opens a few hours a day. Out of curiosity I stopped by around 6am, and there were 4 people (including myself) getting donuts. The owner was very friendly, and he asked what brought me here. I told him that I was curious about the donut, and his hours interested me. A lady behind me recommended me to try their apple fritter, and I got it. The owner shared the story about this donut shop with me briefly, and it is a very touching story. He is very personable to his customer. Owner suggested that I can message him if I would like to order donuts for future. I have never been to a donut shop that provides this kind of service. The Apple fritter is very fresh, soft, not overly sweet, and tasty! It will be perfect to pair with coffee. The owner gave me a printout about this donut shop. I will continue to support. Street parking is available.

If you love donuts, you have to give this place a try. The apple fritters are a must! I prefer the apple fritters here because it's soft and not overly sweet. The owner is super friendly and truly does his best to get to know his customers. While waiting for the donuts, he asked what brought me in and we talked for a bit and he even shared his story about the donut shop. Will definitely continue to support this business. Just fyi: This place is only open from 5 - 9 am and there is street parking.

I came here before work to pick up an apple fritter because I saw that people on TikTok were raving about it. At 7 AM the case was almost fully empty with a couple exceptions. The worker in the front was extremely friendly and made my morning. The dough was delicate, heavily spiced with cinnamon, fluffy, and crispy while not being soaked in grease. the thin coating of icing was perfff!! This fritter would've been 10/10 if it wasn't lacking in apples.

I'm not a donut connoisseur. But for somebody who has lived within Los Angeles and California for a while, I've been able to try a bunch of different types of upscale niche donut shops. It's really cool to see how we have smaller joints like this with hours between 5 to 9 or 10, because they sell out so soon, compared to some goofy corporate Instagram bowl donut shop you would see at like Universal Studios. I got the apple fritter and the maple crumble. The key distinction with both of these donuts I would say is the quality of the dough. I think the best example would be the crumble I had. When you bite into it, it's not like biting into this really airy shell that you would normally expect from a standard pink box. Your coworker brings to an office meeting. What you're getting is almost a bread-y sponge like texture, that isn't too thick, but thick enough to distinguish itself from the other donuts you've had before. It's almost like biting into a light handheld cake. The apple fritter was really good, it wasn't too frosted up top so it was a little bit more concentrated on the dough, but you could still taste the icing and apple. The maple crumble was also pretty dang good. Just do you know that you're going to have to like Maple to eat this one because it might be seen as too sugar for some people. The owner was super nice and he chatted with me over the phone in person, they have great service.

Soooo Good ! And the doughnut sizes are HUGE :) As for the classics; the are more Cupcake texture ..so there better the than the average doughnuts. Better get there before NOON . He's open only 4am to 12. read more

I've been here a couple times. Sampled a couple of their donuts. And in comparison to other similar donut shops, I'd rank this one as one of the better ones. As other reviewers have said, you have to get here early to grab one of their premium items (bear claw, apple fritter, cinnamon bun). They only make enough for the day and when they sell out, they close. Usually by 11am. Was sent here by my boss to pick up some apple fritters after she read about them on the LA Times. Talked to the owner and he said since that article came out, he's been getting calls daily and has had to make 4x the amount he usually does. The donuts are larger than normal and a lot more fluffy and airy than other donut shops. And the bear claws and apple fritters are huge! Haven't tried their coffee, but their donuts are good. read more

Just got some plain old fashioned donuts at 6:00 pm. We saw the tiny window opened and knew we were in luck. We've got freshly made donuts at this hour on a Sunday evening. They were much better than Krispy Kreme - crispy outside and soft inside. My mom said that we could have them for dinner instead. Adding to this, I must say they are truly light and fluffy, not dense like other donut places. My mom is already planning to get a box of them to bring to her siblings on our family reunion cruise in August. Just so she could claim that she had found the place that has old fashioned donuts just like their grandmother made for them in their childhood. FYI, my mom is already 77 years old. read more

Not much to add that hasn't already been written. The apple fritter lives up to the hype and is an amazing donut. The crumb donut is also above the pay grade compared to any other crumb donut you can get. His availability of donuts and hours can be hit/miss for some, but unfortunately that's the price you pay when a product is at the top of its game. read more

My husband and I decided to surprise our employees this morning by bringing them some donuts. We decided to stop by because it's on our route. So happy that we did!! Jonathan is the nicest guy! We were having a challenge week and hearing his story helped us to count the blessings in our life. On to the donuts. They were light, fluffy and not super sweet! I usually only allows myself to eat donuts once a year but think I have to break that rule now. Already telling the husband we need to come back for the famous apple fritters soon!! read more

Amazing Apple Fritters! Was looking for a great place to get some donuts for our office meeting and this place did not disappoint. The owner was super friendly, shared his story about his shop and was really fast. Definitely recommend for any early morning office meeting you have to swing by this place for donuts. Best donut ever. It took me a while to get back here after the first review I left, but I like to be fair so gave this place another chance. 7 am on a Sunday morning. Fair selection still available. Not sure how many offerings there are if you get there early. Jonathan is hyper and friendly. He can be a bit offputting, but roll with it. He called me Sunshine and I hadn't even had my coffee. He got points for that. You will get his life story along with some amazing donuts. He selected for me, insisting I not get the apple fritter, but crumb, maple and chocolate. Crumb is beyond anything I have every had. He says he uses fresh crumbs and I believe it. Almost like a coffee cake. Chocolate glaze was not typical nor was the maple. A real cut above what one usually gets. The donuts weren't greasy either. I will definately be back. read more

I first tried these donuts when a client brought them to our business as a treat. They were absolutely delicious then as they are absolutely delicious today! I called this morning to confirm business hours. I was greeted by Jonathan who informed me that he was just about to close for the day, as he was just about all sold out of donuts. He reassured me over the phone that he wouldn't mind waiting and that he would have something ready for me when I got there. I couldn't help but notice how extremely friendly he was. Also, he had asked who I would be sharing these donuts with, to which I replied, "with my wife and kid." I thought it was a bit unusual and headed over right away. When I got the shop I saw that it was already closed for the day and a cash only sign. As I looked inside, Jonathan greeted me with a prepackaged box of donuts and recognized that I had called earlier. As I reached to my wallet I realized that I did not have any cash. I apologized and told him I can run to the bank down the street and will be back in a few minutes. Again, the donuts are GREAT, but what happened next is what really impressed me and urged me to share my experience. Next, With a great big smile, Jonathan gave me the donuts and told me not to worry about the payment and that he was blessed with the opportunity to serve me and my family. I was truly taken back by his genuine kindness. I spent the next few minutes chatting with him. He told me a little bit about his inspiration and how he got started. Long story short, his grand mother and Jesus Christ have a tremendous influence on his life, and it all made sense to me. As I was leaving, I thanked him again for waiting and the donuts. To anyone who is reading this, If you're looking for exceptional gourmet donuts, this is absolutely the best in town, by far! Jonathan, is you're reading this, thanks again for your kindness and generosity. You truly are an exceptional man of integrity. In this day and age, it's difficult to come by genuinely good people. Your humble act of kindness reminded me of the good in this world and I will make it an effort to pay it forward. This morning, I thought nothing of it when I decided to drive to get some donuts. I left your shop with a renewed sense of appreciation. Thanks again and Monarchs donuts will be my forever go-to donut shop! Of course next time I'll remember to bring the cash! Family brought home 2 boxes of donuts from an event at this donut shop. Was told they are known for Apple fritters. I agree that Apple fritters are very good. Where I always see others' Apple fritters as over fried, greasy and heavy (lumpy brown) ... Their Apple fritters are light and fluffy as glazed donut. You can actually see light sprinkling of cinnamon and can see Apple filling. I have tried few of other donuts (variations of glazed donuts). Like that donuts not overly dressed. Everything has tasted light, fresh and fluffy. Will definitely remember this place and stop by whenever in area and in mood for donuts. Others have raved about service here and look forward to experiencing it myself next time read more

Small donut shop with delicious Apple Fritters! The owner was kind and friendly. Cash Only! We thought we didn't have cash at first and he immediately said it's okay but we ended up having cash. He also gave us a complimentary crumble donut to try. He was eager to tell us his story and explain that his donut shop is actually "made to order." He said he actually invites people in and allows them to see how the donuts are made. He emphasized that it's more about the experience for the customer rather than a business for him. Come support this local donut shop and definitely try their Apple Fritters! Since it is on a one-way street, we parked on the street around the corner and walked to the window front, but I saw a parking lot right next to donut shop you can probably park at. read more

Stopped by late in the morning (9:30ish) hoping to get an apple fritter and a few other donuts. My daughter and I seen that there were only about 6 donuts left and there was a gentleman at the counter paying for a coffee, I didn't want to leave because I wanted to ask what time would be a good time to get there before the donuts sell out. So glad we waited! The owner, Jonathan, chatted with us for a good while & he gave my daughter & I dine donuts including an apple fritter! He told us his beautiful story behind the apple fritter. His background having to do with the donut shop. It really made our day. We can't wait to go back!!! read more

I love this place. Jonathan always brightens my morning and sets a positive precedence for the rest of my day!! He makes the entire buying experience more than just being a donut. I cannot rave enough about his friendly attitude and incredible customer service - always goes above and beyond to make sure each customer is satisfied. Doesn't hurt that his donuts are also amazing!!! Best apple fritter ever and his donuts are always so light and airy. He passed out an article the last time I went by and told me I'd appreciate it since I became a recent first time mother. He says moms have the hardest job in the world and aspires to put the love into his craft like how a mother does for her children. I was so touched by his story. Only open till noonish so be sure to stop by in the morning to get your dose of positivity and a great donut :) read more

Super soft fluffy donuts served by the sweetest owner! I only got the crumb and chocolate glazed donuts and Johnathan threw in a bunch of donut holes in as well (Thank you!). The texture of the dough isn't as light as Krispy Kreme, but has a good weight to it. Hard to describe but the donut just plain tastes fresh. Unlike some other donuts I get in the area that leave me feeling and still tasting the stale oil hours later. Need to come back for the apple fritters! read more

Johnathan is an positive, upbeat business owner and part of the community. He's generous, giving and is always willing to help. You can even text him the night before or early morning to have him save a specific donut for you. The Apple fritters are the most popular for good reason; they're delicious! read more

This place is magical and full of love. My husband and I stopped by this morning to check it out. The owner had a great story he shared with us. He was so kind and funny. His donuts were made with love and are delicious. We had the Apple fritter full of apples and not too sweet. Best I ever had. We also got the churro donut, double trouble, chocolate donut, chocolate croissant and donut holes. Can't say enough good things. We are moving away next month but will drive back just for these magical donuts. I will always crave them. So good! read more

Jonathan Ung is the best guy who owns the best donut shop! This morning my son and I get there, we order, and he forgets to bring his wallet and I forget to bring my wallet. Jonathan says, "Don't worry about it bro!" He even sends me home with an extra box that is a surprise. Tells me not to open it till I get home. He says it's special for an Angels fan and father. I get home, open it, and inside is a blue heart shaped doughnut (for Dodgers fans!) and three chocolate donuts spelling the word "DAD" even more reason to visit Monarch Donuts in Arcadia!!! read more

The donuts here are amazing. They are bigger and more fluffy than your average donut. The donuts tend to stay fresh throughout the day (if they even last that long). Be warned though, this place sells out quick so make sure to get there early! Make sure to try their chocolate glazed donut, it's delicious. read more

It's not about the the sales, it's not about the popularity, it is about being yourself. Those were the words from Jonathan as he told me his story! It was powerful! He is very friendly and down to Earth. I called the day before to make a pre-order (apple fritter & bear claw) making sure the donuts were fresh. Left a voicemail and replied back to confirm the order. Apparently he does catering! I went in today and Jonathan had expressed a very positive attitude with his smile. We talked for a while and listened to his story, picked up the donuts and immediately ate them in the car. They were still soft, crunchy enough and most importantly fresh! Every bite just melted in my mouth. It was so good I began to salivating so much to the point I accidentally drolled a little on myself lol. Can't say it was the best apple fritter as it was my first but one thing for sure is I can tell it was made damn delicious and it was made from the heart. He could probably cut back on the sugar though. Went back to him to get another apple fritter for my family and by then there was a line. Some had quick orders, some had no orders and simply wanted to chat with him. I thought that was nice of the community to say hi. I would say I'll definitely come back, not because of his donuts, but because of his awesomeness!! read more

I started a new job and everyday for the first few days I drove past this place not knowing this is where my old coworker got the donuts, then I yelped and I had remembered his story. Coming back in 2026, the quality still the same but it feels like the store aren't gone down. They're now a split business with a noodle shop. The Duke cashier is to the left. I got it too good to go order and that was worth it but other than the chocolate buns, none of the other menu items stand up to be a returning classic . Store is clean, a little cluttered, but it is a bakery.
