I arrived here at 840a on a Thursday morning and while I was bummed they sold out of apple fritters and there was bit of a wait while the woman in front of me was chit-chatting with the owner, I adored the old school vibes (no indoor seating, just a window decorated with family photos and the display of donuts available). I was able to score street parking in front and when I expressed my sadness that there weren't anymore Apple fritters (just need to call or text to have it reserved for you), he super kindly gave us a box of 4 donuts!! I tried to "tip" but he made me put away my money before giving us the goods. I've only tried the famous crumble so far and it is AMAZING - super fresh, light, mildly sweet and puffy... I could easily polish off all 4 of these donuts but I will attempt to share and will definitely be back, cash only!

I have to preface that I'm not a donut person. That's because I don't like the taste of grease usually associated with donuts. A friend of mine raved about this place so I stopped by to check it out on my way to the 1st tee at Santa Anita golf course. Unfortunately, the donuts here are no exception to the greasy taste. The donuts are quite soft and fluffy. So soft that I'd almost say they lack the requisite texture. The famed apple fritter actually fell apart as I tried to pick it up. It was also the greasiest of the donuts I tried. It literally felt like the oil was oozing as I chewed the donut. The raisin croissant/danish had a decent texture; but, it had sort of cheesy note to it which was unexpected. I also must mention that the prices are quite reasonable and the portions were generous.

Jet lag has its benefits. I've been getting up before 5am and decided to hit up Monarch. They open at 5am and usually sells out in a few hours. I wanted to try their apple fritter many people in my area are talking about. I've never been a fan of it but this is really good. It has a slight crisp outer crust, lighter airy inside with a nice glaze. Also got a maple crumb donut. It's larger than other places, covered with crumbs for texture. Both were fresh and perfect with coffee. I usually don't eat the whole thing, but finished both of these in one sitting. The owner is great and super friendly. We engaged in a chat and I could've talked to him much longer except there was another customer waiting in the pre-dawn cold, so I excused myself. When I got there at 5:30, there were already people leaving with boxes, so I'm not sure what I missed. If you're up early and nearby, go get some!

Shout out to Jonathan!! What a pleasure to deal with such a nice human being. I was able to secure some of the yummy apple fritters, donut holes and old fashioned. The apple fritter was bouncy, airy and had chunks of apples inside. You don't feel bad for eating the whole thing but it is big so you can save some for later. The donut holes were so good even a day after being bought. Just amazing of how it holds the texture and glaze so well. Old fashion was moist and not dense but still has the vibe of a cake like donut. He is only open from 5-9am and usually sells out. I will sure be back!

I had to do a review just cause that apple fritter donut BUSSIN!. It was the right sweetness not too sweet and not too over powering off nutmeg or cinnamon it was just right. I am glad I was able to try this donut from a lovely customer that drop it off I will mos def visit this spot for more of those apple fritters.

I have the option to go to a donut shop that is just a few steps in front of the gym, but decided to make a trip out to Monarch Donuts. So glad I decided to make the trip. Donuts are moist and soft. I did not read any reviews and had no idea this place was so popular. Spoke to the owner and he was nice and made some good recommendations. I am not a donut person but have to say I would eat a donut from this place any day.

My bf and I ran here. The owner hooked us up with cold waters which were very appreciated. The price was reasonable and I remembered to bring cash! And it's a great Apple fritter. It certainly is delicious" My review 8.2/10 - I dont like cooked fruit or most donuts. But I loved it. I appreciate how non-greasy it is and how non-oily it tastes. It's not overly sweet like other donuts I've had. The Apple is pleasant and the way the fritter is made is pretty cool. It's like clumps of dough and not one dough piece like a normal donut. I also enjoy how the dough is not crazy dense for a fritter and it's fluffy and cooked throughout. Cinnamon crumb donut Bf review 7.3/10 - "if you love cinnamon and sugar, this is the donut for you. Light, fluffy, with many layers in between. This donut will make your morning" My review 6/10 - very fluffy dough. It has a cooling effect on my tongue (stevia). I taste a little more oil. Donut holes Bf review 7.8/10 - "delicious. Glaze is sweet but not overly sweet. It's fluffy, spongey texture. It's quite good." My review 7.8/10 - "very light dough. The glaze is not covering the hole but Im into it!"

I always notice this shop when I drove by, but it was always closed. I was being curious, and found out that this donut shop only opens a few hours a day. Out of curiosity I stopped by around 6am, and there were 4 people (including myself) getting donuts. The owner was very friendly, and he asked what brought me here. I told him that I was curious about the donut, and his hours interested me. A lady behind me recommended me to try their apple fritter, and I got it. The owner shared the story about this donut shop with me briefly, and it is a very touching story. He is very personable to his customer. Owner suggested that I can message him if I would like to order donuts for future. I have never been to a donut shop that provides this kind of service. The Apple fritter is very fresh, soft, not overly sweet, and tasty! It will be perfect to pair with coffee. The owner gave me a printout about this donut shop. I will continue to support. Street parking is available.

If you love donuts, you have to give this place a try. The apple fritters are a must! I prefer the apple fritters here because it's soft and not overly sweet. The owner is super friendly and truly does his best to get to know his customers. While waiting for the donuts, he asked what brought me in and we talked for a bit and he even shared his story about the donut shop. Will definitely continue to support this business. Just fyi: This place is only open from 5 - 9 am and there is street parking.

I came here before work to pick up an apple fritter because I saw that people on TikTok were raving about it. At 7 AM the case was almost fully empty with a couple exceptions. The worker in the front was extremely friendly and made my morning. The dough was delicate, heavily spiced with cinnamon, fluffy, and crispy while not being soaked in grease. the thin coating of icing was perfff!! This fritter would've been 10/10 if it wasn't lacking in apples.

I'm not a donut connoisseur. But for somebody who has lived within Los Angeles and California for a while, I've been able to try a bunch of different types of upscale niche donut shops. It's really cool to see how we have smaller joints like this with hours between 5 to 9 or 10, because they sell out so soon, compared to some goofy corporate Instagram bowl donut shop you would see at like Universal Studios. I got the apple fritter and the maple crumble. The key distinction with both of these donuts I would say is the quality of the dough. I think the best example would be the crumble I had. When you bite into it, it's not like biting into this really airy shell that you would normally expect from a standard pink box. Your coworker brings to an office meeting. What you're getting is almost a bread-y sponge like texture, that isn't too thick, but thick enough to distinguish itself from the other donuts you've had before. It's almost like biting into a light handheld cake. The apple fritter was really good, it wasn't too frosted up top so it was a little bit more concentrated on the dough, but you could still taste the icing and apple. The maple crumble was also pretty dang good. Just do you know that you're going to have to like Maple to eat this one because it might be seen as too sugar for some people. The owner was super nice and he chatted with me over the phone in person, they have great service.

Came from out of town to drop off a family member at a nearby hospital. It was very early and I was hungry. Found this place as I was driving around. The guy working was very nice and helped us immediately. The donuts taste great. It's set up really nice too. read more

My wife researched donut shops around and found this 2.5 miles away. Small, nice spot but only open super early and apparently sells out fast! My wife came back with her jaw dropped. Jonathan told her such a great story and blessed her with some donuts. I gotta tell you, these things are DELICIOUS! HEAD OVER THERE ASAP...AS EARLY AS YOU CAN as they sell out of the Apple Fritter which is deemed LA's best for a reason! We will be returning many times and I recommend you do as well! read more

I didn't even know that this place was actually here and I've lived in the area for how many years. Anyway, we showed up at 10AM or so to grab coffee at the place next door and there was quite a line here! I was surprised considering it was raining. It must have been regulars. LOL. Anyway, on the way out we stopped to grab some donuts here about a half dozen for $6 something. There was a good selection and everything is displayed in the window. The only hard part is choosing your donuts since you have to point and make hand gestures. The only opening is on the right side where you pay so you have to get creative or talk loud and hope he hears you. The donuts are good so you can't go wrong here. Parking is a bit difficult, but street parking should be ok. This place is small so if you come looking for it, you might pass it by. Oh and CASH ONLY... so you're not surprised when you drop by. read more

Apple Fritter is my go to. Always fresh tasting and packed full with apples. The outside is nice and crispy. The crust is often my favorite part. The inside is warm, sweet and slightly tart. Always crave them for a snack. They also have delicious donuts here as well. Take your pick. You won't be disappointed. read more

I've come here twice now because the coffee shop next door was temporarily closed. Worst doughnuts in Arcadia. Dense doughnuts...I'm used to light and fluffy Really hard icing Hard cake doughnuts Hate how I don't have the guy's undivided attention when I'm ordering...he always seems to be on the phone or talking to someone next to him. I wish they'd learn how to rise above being lazy and put out some food they can take pride in. read more

Great and friendly customer service with a great story about his family and his dedication to this career. The apple fritters were warm and tasty. The chocolate donuts and chocolate sprinkles were a must for anyone with kids. Not stingy on the chocolates and they look like fresh from the oven. Went on Mother's Day early in the morning to beat the crowd and got rewarded with few extra mini donut balls and discount from him. Definitely will make another visit in the near future. read more

Just had the best apple fritter I've ever tasted! Went with friends to dinner next door at a Korean BBQ. We walked here, and even though it was dark, the walk up window was open. Being the night before Mother's Day, the owner offered a free fritter to us three moms on one condition, our sons had to tell him something nice about us. (Our sons are 13, and they had to think awhile.) He shared with us that he owes everything to his mom, and tried to convey to the boys how important moms are. Wonderful donuts, wise advice, and great company. What a night. We'll be back!! read more

Jonathan is super nice. I told him it was my first time there and he gave me a baby crumb cake donut to try after inquiring about it. It was good for a cake donut. I then tried the crumb donut and the dough itself is bread-like and a bit salty. I can see how others might enjoy this texture and flavor but it is not for me. Johnathon, the service was incredible and friendly. I came in at 10 just looking for a quick snack. I looked and there was no more donuts. So I rang a bell and said hello and he came down smiling. I asked if he still had donuts and he said is it my first time here. He quickly let me know that he sells out. After that started getting the last of his donuts and having conversation. I had yet to ask for any donut but hands me a bag and says keep my pocket out of my hand. Truly one of the best experiences I've ever had. Why do we not have more people like johnathon in the world. Haven't even started about the donuts. It's a must try for anyone in the area read more

My coworker has brought monarch donuts in the past and I thought it was really good so I had to come by today!!! Brought it for my pharmacists and technicians today. They loved it . Sometimes, you just know when a donut is good or lacking quality . But yes Service is GREAT!!! I met tom today! He is super nice . Family owned business but he's super cool . They do close at 12pm so if you have late night cravings... Sorry haha it happens but other than that, I will be back for more :) Thank you guys:) read more

Prolly the best donuts I've ever had! You must try the Cronut. Life changing! The regular chocolate and the crumb was super delish as well. They were moist and full of flavor. Remember to bring cash as Jonathan is cash only. I highly highly recommend stopping by! Can't wait to try the apple fritters as they're his most popular but he was out for the day. Great donuts and croissants. I am here on vacation and concur with fellow Yelpers on this place. Got here around 7:30am and would say he was about 90% sold with donuts boxed for phone orders. Depending on my schedule I will be back to get an apple fritter which is supposed to be excellent and was sold out. The owner is a great guy and a genuine kind soul. read more

I've been on a quest find the best apple fritter and it's been an endless journey...until now. I can't believe this unassuming hidden gem had been right under my nose!!! Jonathan and his apple fritter is to die for! So fresh, light with little bits of apple sprinkles all throughout. when you get to the center you'll find a pot of mouth watering delicious warm gooey gold. my life is now complete! he's always there to greet with you a big bright smile and a hearty hello and an overflowing abundance of happiness and gratefulness. I can't express how good it feels as a customer to be greeted with such joy and appreciation. you can sense the gratitude Jonathan has to be able to serve his customers. make sure to place your order via instagram or his cell to place an order the night before because he sells out fast (usually sells out of fritters by 7:30am). there's usually parking right in front of the shop on the street but make sure to come from the Santa Anita Ave or heading west Huntington drive. if you go east on huntington you cannot make a u turn. read more

I am not a big donut lover, I am very selective on sweets. Their donuts are not too sweet, and very light. One thing I noticed these donut taste the same when I eat it the next day. Their apple fritter is the best in LA, many people agreed as you can read in many review. Cinnamon crumb donut taste just right, the sweetness doesn't over power the cinnamon, my favorite! Jonathan, the owner, is a very kind perso , always greet customer with positive attitude and a smile from ear to ear. Remember to stop by as early as u can, shop close once everything is sold! read more

There's not really much to say- except these are the best donuts I've EVER had! And I'm a foodie! I've tried many of the "best": Voodoo, Blue Star, and of course Krispy Kreme and the Donut Man. All of these "famous" places don't come close to this place. So delicious. I'm sort of sad I discovered it because now I'm going to be craving it a lot! I live a minute away too! Too bad my waistline can't take anymore donuts! lol! I can't wait for my next trip! Going to have to give myself a "donut budget" otherwise I'll be going every Saturday morning! Maybe just every other Saturday for now..LOL read more

Jenn Harris must not get out much. The fritter was good, but nothing special, on par with Rose Donuts. Got there at 5am on a Sunday and 6 fritters were on display but was told, "4 are already ordered". Thankfully I didn't go home empty handed, but WTF? Maybe next time I'll call and "order" all of them and screw the sucker like me this time who actually comes down to the store. read more

Hate to post such a positive review because it could let a neighborhood secret out and let the rest of the world know about this gem. These are the best donuts around. They are light and airy. Very tasty. They are not dense, oily and overly sweet like your run of the mill donut that tastes generic no matter where you go. read more

I love donuts! And I'm picky about my donuts. I like them OG, not the ones with cereal or gummy worms that are being made these days. My husband brought me an apple fritter that was given to him at work. It was awesome! I had to go and try some more. I got the jelly filled, crumb, and original glaze. Omg! They were so soft and delicious . The owner is really nice and he also runs out quick. I went around 10am and there were only a few left. read more

Remembered reading an article about the Apple Fritter a while back so I finally stopped. Previous reviewers are right, early bird catches the worm. I was fortunate enough to grab a couple of fritters and cinnamon rolls. They are a good size and filling. The apple fritter was very good. Wasn't greasy or super sweet or had too many apples. It was just the right amount. I had a nice crunch to it yet the center was nice and soft. The cinnamon roll, from what I was told, was very good too. Not very sweet. Subtle cinnamon flavor and very filling. Definitely worth another visit sometime in the near future. read more

I don't usually love donuts, but Jonathan's donuts are too good to pass. Jonathan made us some apple Fritters to try, and o mannn.... it tasted amazing! Just read reviews here and found out his apple fritters are people's favorites! Well, the taste doesn't lie and thankyou so much for letting us try, or else we would have missed out a lot. Parking is easy. There's a medium size lot. Staff is very honest & very friendly. Staff happily welcomed me and wished me farewell. Staff easily uses words like "-my friend" and Staff makes polite talk seamlessly. Staff works hard. On ambiance, the location is comfortable. There's several tables, and there's a TV. However, this location is mostly an order-and-leave spot. There were many customers that rush in, order, and leave. It's a very popular donut shop in the community!
