I asked my chimney sweep - Pete's Chimney & More - if they would install a wood burning fireplace…read morefor me. They referred me to Ed O'Hara of Orange County Mechanical. I live in Rockland County. Ed assured me my location was no problem. I have a wood burning fireplace in the center of my home serving as a true hearth since the house was built in 1949. As with any other open fireplace, it provided direct radiant heat to anybody in font of it while drawing cold outside air into the house diminishing the net effectiveness so much that I doubt the thing helped to heat my house. I decided it was time to spend the money to upgrade to a wood burning fireplace insert to maintain the option of enjoying a nice fire and augment the cast iron baseboard hydronic natural gas-fired heating system we have. Ed came down, took measurements and discussed my options. The prices he quoted were about $2,000 more than I anticipated so I pursued other contractors. GUESS WHAT! The prices from the others were significantly higher than Orange County Mechanical's despite my seeking to do this during the summer. Ed graciously took me back. I decided on the unit to be installed, scheduled the work and gave Ed a deposit. Ed arrived on time on the agreed date bringing a solidly experienced team. They got the work done efficiently. BIG PLUS+ They made sure to clean up every last bit before leaving with my thanks. The unit enhanced the appearance of the fireplace so much I decided to cover the previous brick with granite from Barocco Granite. This thing is tremendously efficient while still providing plenty of enjoyable firelight. Fireplace inserts are a great choice for fireplaces. Orange County Mechanical is the best choice for obtaining and installing one.

Matthew showed up ready, willing, and absolutely able to get the job done right. He's not only knowledgeable and skilled, but also polite, professional, and patiently informative. He even allowed my husband to look over his shoulder while troubleshooting--explaining each step and why he was doing it. In the end, Matthew discovered that we didn't need a new auger motor at all--just a thorough, professional cleaning. He gave our stove an excellent deep clean inside and out, then walked us through how to maintain it properly to prevent the same problem in the future. After reassembling everything, he refilled the pellets, started the stove, and carefully observed the auger's movements until it was running smoothly again. Within minutes, we were back in business and warm once more! It's rare to find a technician with this level of honesty, craftsmanship, and customer care. I'd highly recommend Mountain Chimney Sweep--and especially Matt--to anyone who wants quality service done right the first time.

Sanitizing the individual duct/vents was added ($25 extra for each vent) to the originally quoted package which he said only includes sanitizing the main duct, but I wanted that done after seeing the mold build-up on the vent registers. He also helped taking out the moldy vent registers because it's probably better just to replace than trying to clean them. Overall, glad we did the cleaning, though I wish it was clearly stated the vent sanitizing was NOT included in the quote, because the quote just said "...air duct cleaning includes up to 15 supply vents and returns, two main duct per single unit, sanitizer (to prevent mold growth)..." A little update: Later through the check-in with the owner, the owner Nick answered all my questions, told me how to maintain, and that we won't need to do a cleaning again until a few years later. Also after hearing my concern about the mold on the registers, he said the registers needed to be thrown out and replaced, but the ducts behind the vents themselves didn't have mold so didn't have to be sanitized, even though it was my request to sanitize them. I was told main duct/trunk sanitization is what they usually do and individual duct/vent sanitization is not a recommended practice actually. He offered to refund the extra charge for the vent sanitization that I didn't need. I appreciate that honesty and accountability.
