We heard good things about this place so we decided to give a try. The pizza was not disappointing, but they totally forgot our sandwich, which happened to be spicy Italian beef... the sandwich is supposed to be dipped in the broth, so it would taste the best when serving fresh. And because it was forgotten, the bread got soggy and tastes unpleasant. They have some pizza sold by slice but you need to be there early or your option would be very limited. Found this gem just driving by and wow what a find! All around top notch! We drove by around lunch and planned to order pizza for dinner. Called in and had a wonderful lady answer the phone. She answered all my questions and took our order of 2 pizzas and a house salad. I arrived a little before our food was ready and was able checkout the store which was great and noticed that they had lots of frozen to go meals. This place is the real deal for authenticate Italian. My wife and I tried their pizza (amazing). We got it to go and went across the street to the Starr Hill brewery to eat. The crust on this Neapolitan style pizza is simply the best around. There are others that are close, but this is by far our favorite place to get pizza. We also got fresh pasta and sauce to go, which again was excellent. All are little pricey, but well worth it for treating yourself on the weekend. While staying in the area for work, I stopped in for a very late lunch (just a sandwich), not knowing this was not only a restaurant (with pizza, pasta, and sandwiches to take out), but also a little "take & bake" and Italian grocery store. After ordering my sandwich, I saw many things that caught my eye, on shelves and in their freezer, so I ended up picking up several more items to take home. My sandwich was AWESOME! I got the Val d'Aosta Sandwich and the focaccia it was on was incredible! The meats, toppings, etc all came together perfectly and it was really tasty! I'd love to go back and try their pizza next time.... They have a beautiful brick oven pizza flaming up in the kitchen, which is viewable from the store. Staff was very helpful and friendly too! Lemme start with the fact that this pizza is easily in my top 5 all time, I got the mushroom and pesto and added roasted peppers. The crust and cheese are beyond perfect and they have a cool open kitchen where you can see their brick oven. The wait time was about 25 minutes and I waited an extra 10 before checking in and my pizza had been ready but I'm not even upset because it was so good. The only thing I wouldn't do again is get the ginger ale, the 6 pack was about $17 because she had to scan each bottle individually, I love ginger ale and that was unfortunately the worst I've ever had. Heard great things about the pizza here at Mona Lisa Pasta. It really was good and just the way I like pizza. Ordered online to pick up and the site was very user friendly. I called when I arrived as the online system suggested and I think it's easier just to go to the counter inside. The crust was cooked just the way I requested through the online system and the thinly grated parmesan cheese over the prosciutto was perfect. I stayed to have a slice in their seating area that is back open and very inviting for locals and new visitors alike. They also make amazing fresh pasta, pasta sauces and freeze meals and pasta for quick pick up in their refrigerated section. For my niece's baby shower for 40 guests we ordered grilled vegetables, pasta salad, and sandwich platters from the catering menu and then some pizzas. The manager (perhaps owner) was very friendly, gave great advice on what to order for the crowd, and even let me know to tone down a bit from my original plan (and was right - we ended up with the right amount). Everything was great, elevated above what I expected from the descriptions, and we got rave reviews from the guests. Very reasonably priced, and everything was as ordered, on time. The restaurant was busy when we stopped by, and if you're looking to feed a big group, this is the place to order from. Okay first of all umm yum!!! I went for the first time today because I had heard so many things about their fresh pasta being amazing and all so I just had to try it. I got egg pasta and basil pesto and oh my goodness it did not disappoint! I like pesto a lot but finding a good pesto has been super hard, until today. Not going to lie, it was perfect. Stopped in for lunch and really enjoyed our sandwiches. Val'dAosta Sandwich was super unique and tasty (Salty ham, buttery focaccia bread, fontina cheese, and red pepper mustard). Lots of flavor and like no sandwich I've ever had. Turkey muffaletta was also solid, and had the quintessential olive salad and hearty ciabatta bread. Our first and only choice for pizza in Cville. Everything just right. Crust, sauce, cheese, ingredient selections etc. (I always double sauce, love the sauce that much. Still not at all soggy). We order par-baked and finish at home on a pizza stone. We buy the large and freeze half. Nice to be able to have ingredients on 1/2 different than other half. But other things worth mentioning.... For large groups pasta dishes are amazing. We always order baked ziti for Christmas Eve. Always a hit. From Freezer selection Bolognese lasagna is a favorite. Love the meatballs in red sauce with rigatoni we make at home! Lastly, fantastic wine selection at reasonable prices - great advice from counter help for selecting wines. Great cold cuts, bread that sings, the smell of marinara cooking in the back--- friendly foodie service, and a great assortment of to-go foods-- Proved one of my theories-- went in the back to talk to the staff, and sure enough, the guy making the pasta sheets is from Brooklyn. My wife and I enjoy the toothsome, chewy texture of this little shop's fresh pasta offerings and appreciate the multiple flavors they offer. I often make my own pasta and understand the difficulty in creating great dough, and these guys offer a consistently high quality product. Pastas are cut to order in your choice of fettuccini or linguini, and run $5 a pound. Flavor highlights include briny squid ink, hearty whole wheat, and savory garlic. We haven't tried the stuffed pastas here, but I imagine they are equally delicious. The store also offers a small selection of Italian groceries, fresh live fried pizzas, and sandwiches, though again we have only sampled the cut to order pastas here. It is a small local shop that offers everything from a counter full of meats, olives, and cheeses, to a few shelves full of pasta, wine, and other Italian finds. I purchased dolmas, La Giaconda which had fresh mozzarella, zesty tomatoes and basil, and the Da Vinci which was a conglomerate of "three-seed baton with genoa salami, sopresatta, provolone cheese, tomato, mixed greens, house dressing and sun-dried tomato pesto". Everything I ordered turned out excellent. For $5.99 per sandwich I felt it was well worth the money. I'm definitely ocming back! read more

For how good this place is, it doesn't get enough buzz. Hidden in plain sight, MLP sits on Preston next to the more popular Sticks. Unassuming, this store-restaurant makes incredible sandwiches. My personal favorite the Da Vinci sits between a crusty, chewy seeded bread. The layers of cured meats, cheese, and dressed greens create the perfect ratio of salt, fat, and acid. I always leave so satisfied and highly recommend adding MLP to your Charlottesville sandwich repertoire. read more

I heard great things about this place from a friend and really wanted to try their fresh pasta. I ended up buying a bag of frozen ravioli (only sold frozen!), the chicken and prosciutto one, and I was really sad that I didn't love it. I have had really amazing pasta from some friends with the fresh noodles from here though, so I plan to come back and buy those and some sauce. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful! I got the rosemary and garlic pasta to make at home and it was so delicious. The wet pasta in the bag smelled so good so I couldn't wait to cook it! The pasta when cooked actually retained its flavor so I liked it with just olive oil. Super unique shop that's definitely worth stopping by. I had never bought fresh cut wet pasta from a store before in its doughy form so it was special! Stopped in to get a Sticks Kebab from the shop next door but they had a long wait. So I thought I would try Mona Lisa's pizzas. Absolutely amazing! They not only make them right in front of you, but ask for your input for the ingredients as well. The pizza took about 12 minutes to make from scratch and was done exactly to my request (salami and onions). While waiting, I ordered a few cannolis and oh my god. They were out of this world. As I got to talk to the owner and saw him prepare few pounds of handmade pasta (garlic rosemary, I think) I had to get some of those as well. All in all, walked out with a pizza, a few cannolis and a pound of wet pasta. All of which were delicious. If only they had a larger, proper seating area that served their pasta's. read more

I've eatin here a few times now. The soup of the day was great! I also took home 10 portions of garlic pasta with amatricciana sauce and cooked it up for the fam. I come here for the La Giaconda sandwich every time I'm in town - I have yet to find a mozzarella sandwich that I like better. The fresh cut pastas are also excellent (you pick the cut and flavor), as are the frozen pastas (pumpkin ravioli) and sauces. Large pizzas easily feed 2 adults and are a great value for the high quality ingredients. Love the whole wheat crust option too!
