I really like the mighty meaty; it has mellow red sauce, pepperoni, Italian sausages, honey ham, applewood smoked bacon and Mozzarella. Came here for dinner on a Monday evening with hubby. We've been to other Mellow Mushrooms at different locations and this was the first time we came to this location. We ordered the pretzel bites (because I got a free pretzel bites coupon with the purchase of a pizza by checking in on Yelp), a mixed drink, a Cobb salad, and Hawaiian pizza. Total came out to approximately $50. What's not - Service. There appeared to be only 3 wait staff when we were there. Not certain what their staffing situation is like. Salad came out first, drink came out second, appetizer came out third, and pizza was last. We waited close to 30 minutes for our salad to come out first. Not sure why our mixed drink took so long to arrive, as well. Why didn't that come first? Our water glasses were never refilled. Because our orders took so long, no one ever checked in on us to update the progress of our orders. To be fair to their staff, everyone was nice, but the quality of service and the wait time was terrible, especially on an evening that wasn't busy. There were maybe 10 tables of customers. - Quality. Unacceptable. The chicken on the salad was over cooked and dry. The pretzel bites weren't a pretzel texture, just over cooked pizza dough bites that were not soft or tender. The pizza was barely warm when it arrived, which led us to believe the pizza had been sitting out for a while before it was served. The crust was over cooked. The cheese wasn't soft and gooey as one expects on any pizza. Rather, it was firm and just fell off the pizza as I was eating, because it was so firm. Not worth the money we've paid for. - Price. Not good value for money. - Parking. Because it's close to the university, parking in this area can be very difficult. Be mindful that most parking in this area is monitored and/or timed and/or permit parking. Be prepared to walk farther. What's hot - Location. Me and my fiance just moved to Charlottesville! Went out with some family to show them the area and (unfortunately, our bad) decided on dinner on Valentine's Day. Amazing!!!!! I usually enjoy Mellow Mushroom to begin with, and this exceeded my expectations. Came for an early dinner and we were immediately seated and greeted by a very friendly young server named Cameron. He took good care of us and was SUUUPERR kind, which I appreciated!!! Every food included in the photos was delicious. I loved both kinds of the pizza (a little too cheesy but still tasty). The veggies in the calzone were not cooked very thoroughly and were therefore pretty crunchy still, that was the only negative of our whole experience. Can't comment on the service or ambiance since I placed the order online and picked it up. I can comment on the pizza itself. I loved the crust and the extra Parmesan on the crust gave it added taste. The crust was magnificent. We ordered one mighty meat and they were not stingy on the meat. We also ordered a half and half with half vegggie our and half karma. The veggies were fresh and plentiful. The pizzas were really good. My one and only complaint is the amount of cheese on the pizzas. The base of any pizza is the sauce and cheese, everything else builds from that base. Every bite I take should have crust, sauce, cheese, and whatever topping I ordered. This pizza was generous on the sauce and toppings but was missing the cheese on every bite. Had a reservation for a big party, and they say us almost by the kitchen area. One of us had a garlic intolerance, and the server went back and forth verifying with kitchen what contained garlic since she didn't know and literally everything contained garlic except a piece of lettuce. That person wasn't able to eat. Ordered mac n cheese for the kids which ended finding out is microwaveable, not made at the restaurant. The service wasn't great, had to ask for silverware, was never brought and then when asked brought just one when we were more than 10 at the table. Also had to request plates and napkins that were never brought till requested. Regarding quality of food it's okay, not great. The pizza was burnt, however the toppings and the rest were alright. The service I've had here has been very friendly and helpful I would absolutely recommend lunch here over dinner, as they have great pizza-by-the-slice deals at lunch that make the prices great. If you head here you should absolutely grab the pretzel bites, dusted with parmesan and served with beer cheese. I'm also a fan of their white pizzas, they have a really great seasoned ricotta. Draft list is pretty good as well. A fun stop for lunch or good for a big group at dinner. read more

I order a custom small Vegan pizza which is so filling (for a really good price): I save a slice for breakfast. The ingredients I choose aren't really super flavorful more than subtle. Talk about a night to remember. There are plenty of restaurants out there, but only Mellow Mushroom can provide this much food, happiness, and overall vibes. Halfway through our meal, a storm erupted outside, but inside Mellow Mushroom A. and I didn't feel so much as a drop. As we watched people rushing for shelter from inside we couldn't help but laugh -- sangria, pizza, shelter from the storm. Seconds, anyone? Also, I may be a Mellowmaniac, but I am also a human being. And the scenes of life, love, and community on display have left me considering what on Earth this town would look like if (God Forbid) there was a second Mellow Mushroom here. There would be less crime, more love, and the sangria would flow like water! I got a half Loaded Baked Potato (secret menu item, ya dig?) half Great White pizza, and A. got a half Great White half Mowie Wowie pizza. Both pizza's were awesome, but I think we both agreed that the Great White took the cake. At one point I was like "this pizza might be the Great White, but I'm the one acting like Jaws tonight!" which made about two families near us laugh so loud. And of course, again, we got Sangria. Holy Shiitake: Yes holy shiitake this pizza was AMAZING. The oily garlicky sauce, meaty mushrooms, caramelized onions, and aged cheese added complex flavors and textures to what otherwise would've been a boring vegetarian pizza. Next time will definitely just get the holy shiitake by itself House Special: Weirdly tasted exactly like the Costco combo pizza which is great but Costco isn't a pizza chain. I didn't like how the vegetables were kinda raw and in big pieces which made it unappetizing. Would not get again. The pizza was great. Thankfully it was near my hotel so my wife and I could walk here because I'm not sure where parking is. I suspect you have to use the paid parking lot I had to use for the hotel. Inside, the environment has the same vibe as all Mellow Mushrooms, which I think is pretty cool. The staff was friendly enough but it took a few minutes to get seated because they had to clean a table, even though there were clean tables available. The pizza was great as we split it into a half Merry Prankster and half Maui Wowie. Both were tasty, with me liking the Merry Prankster more and my wife liking the Maui Wowie more. Worked out. My reservations with this place are we asked for napkins several times and never got them. And when we asked for a box (which came quickly). Mellow Mushroom (although a chain) is one of my favorite pizza places in Charlottesville, VA. Their pizzas are all rich in flavor and have some of the coolest specialty pies I've ever seen. The crust is nice and crispy while retaining a fluffy and airy interior. My favorite pies include: the Loaded Potato Pie, Cosmic Karma, and the Holy Shiitake. Although discontinued, you can ask for the Loaded Potato Pie by asking for the following: "Olive oil and garlic base with roasted red potatoes, jalapeños (subbed from the bacon since I'm vegetarian), caramelized onions, cheddar and mozzarella, chives, drizzle of sour cream & spicy ranch (add a drizzle of Buffalo if you want a kick)." It's a fairly calm ambience and usually not too crowded which is good depending on what you want. They're accommodating for groups too. The mellow mushroom is a unique pizzeria. First, the physical dining room is very colorful and bright, as are the menu and the dishes displayed on it. I've tried many pizzas from the mellow mushroom, and while they are smaller than typical chain pizzas, they make up for it in flavor and toppings. Love pizza and this place is perfect for pizza lovers!!! I came here when half or Main St had a power outage. I waited at the bar until I could grab a table, as the place was full to capacity due to the power being on and everyone coming here. I asked if I could have the table I stood next to and I was told "Yes, when I'm finished cleaning it." Makes sense, but I wasn't trying to be rude.... and it was awkward to stand next to a dirty table and watch someone clean it without being able to help out. I do think they could have changed the sign from "Please Seat Yourself" to "Wait to be Seated" in this situation and that would work better when the place is packed. Once seated I was bypassed several times since I had a drink in hand. When my (male) friend arrived, things were even more interesting. He was asked several times how his food was, and not me. We both brushed it off because it was so obvious and we chalk it up to having a young server.
