The two pizzas were meant to be eaten on site, so the taste test at home was so-so, but the meatball sandwich was worth every penny! The staff at the window was friendly and fast! This setup is so that people not wanting to wait in at the original can get takeout at an entirely separate location. The art park has some places you could eat outdoors, though some are marked off for other businesses. For a 100% takeout, it wasn't the smoothest experience. They ran out of some things, they ran a bit over the projected order time, and they forgot my beverage, which thankfully I realized before I'd gotten very far. The flavor delivered as I would have hoped, with pure tomato tang, fresh basil, and a delectable charred crust on the core pizza I got. Adding a vegetable sandwich was a good decision in terms of taste, but either the preserved peppers they use or some other ingredient was so salty it took me a while to recover from even eating half of it. I do give them credit for offering sparkling water at a reasonable price. And of note, the budino dessert they offer, while described as pudding, is something that I learned is actually vegetarian (albeit with dairy and eggs), and delivered more excellent flavor. This review is kind of strange for me. It's been quite some time since I have been to Lampo pizza and is the very first time I've tried the location in IX park. The food is identical to the original and is quite convenient to order online. All that being said the pizza is not really your traditional pizza. It's kind of in a realm of its own and does not compare to anything else in the area. I consider it to be "fancy" pizza and comes with a hefty price tag. The pizza itself is quite good, the zeppole was very good, and the meatballs were exquisite. I would eat this again but not on any sort of a regular basis. It's just not my cup of tea. read more

Was really looking forward to some authentic Neapolitan pizza. We tried to go to the main restaurant, but there was a 50 to 60 minute wait at 5:45pm on a Friday. So we decided to order from Lampo 2 go. Staff was incredibly friendly and the pizza was ready a few minutes earlier than expected. We got the margarita DOC, the fungi and the pepperoni. Loved the buffalo mozzarella and sauce on the DOC, but the mozzarella was very sparse. I mean like four small coins. I wish I'd remembered to take a picture. Crust was also disappointing; chewy and not what I was expecting for an upscale pizza place. Especially for the prices. The fungi a bummer as well as it really had no flavor. The pepperoni was decent, but again the crust was disappointing. Would much prefer my homemade pizza off the grill with fresh mozzarella and basil. Also ordered the Brussels sprout salad - just ok for me. Wasn't getting a lot of flavor besides Brussels sprouts and pecorino. Usually I appreciate a to go order that is lightly dressed, but really wasn't tasting the vinaigrette at all. Some on the side would've been helpful probably. read more

I go here, too much. I go here enough to know names and faces. I go here enough to notice texture changes in the dough depending on how hot or cold it is outside. I love this place from the tips of my toes to the top of my head because of three things: 1. I have always been treated so well 2. It such a beautiful spot 3. The pizza, is life. Not the best not the worst. I was super excited to try this place out as I am visiting from DC area. I saw the high google maps ratings and figured it would be a solid pizza spot to try out. I ordered the Brussel sprouts salad which I really enjoyed. Great sauce to veggie ratio. The Pauliee G pizza was my favorite out of the two we ordered (fungi). My wife and I never got the chance to check out Lampo in its original, beloved incarnation when we lived here a few years ago. Upon returning to Charlottesville last year, we found the original location temporarily closed with a new outpost in IX Park offering a pandemic friendly, takeout only model. Lampo definitely serves the best wood fired pies in the area. Their reputation for excellent pizzas is well deserved. That said, the pizzas do lose some magic in transit, no matter how short the drive. What are travel friendly, however, are Lampo's ridiculously good sandwiches. In fact, they may even get better en route, as the baked to order bread softens a bit and soaks up the sandwich juices with time. The sandwiches here rank among my favorites in town (and anywhere else for that matter), and I'm particularly partial to the porchetta with crispy, rich pork, milky fresh mozzarella, and sharp broccoli rabe. One sandwich makes a perfect lunch for me, but if you have a bigger appetite consider a side of the excellent house-made Italian bread. Online ordering is a cinch and I have found the website's estimated pickup time very accurate. I find the prices here fair for the quality of food, especially since the a lot of the product is made in house and the produce is local. While the OG opened back up recently, it'll be hard to pass up the convenience of Lampo's excellent fare to go, especially when in the mood for sandwiches. read more

I was super upset to order from Lampo on Grubhub to find the pie was half the size of what you would get in the restaurant. And, the price is not only the same, but higher - not only because of service fees/etc, but the list price itself is marked up. The fact that they charge you not even the same, but more, and stick you with less, is incredibly slimy. Even if they charged the same, to then provide you with a significantly smaller portion is just wrong. Definitely will not be spending money to order from them again. read more

Lampo makes beautiful Neapolitan style pizzas. Their pies transport well and are almost as delicious at home as they are in the restaurant.

Not the best, not the worst. Having heard a lot of rave reviews about Lampo, we dropped by for take-out. What we got were two pies that were undercooked and sparsely covered. There were maybe six meatballs on a 12" pie. Only half the pie had cheese. The rest was sauce. Moving from the DC area, we were literally obsessed with a Neapolitan pizza place called Pupatella. I was really hoping for a similar experience here. Not so. Still, it's OK enough and close enough to what we'd expect to scratch the Neapolitan itch when needed. I've been to the original Lampo back in 2017 while visiting Charlottesville and I still remember how delicious it was to this day. So the second time I got to visit Charlottesville, I made sure to come back! Because it's COVID and they didn't reopen the sit-down restaurant at that time, they only had takeout options available which was fine. We have ordered from Lampo just a handful of times, but always in an effort to give them another chance. This place drastically undercooks its pizza. For an outrageous cost for two pizzas, with a good tip and with a message that stated "crispy crust please" (hoping it would come out cooked and not undercooked)... We got gross, disgusting, sloppy pies that have finally made us say we will never give them another shot and all these second and third and fourth chances were just a waste of money. These pizzas simply haven't been edible. It's a shame. read more

This place is definitely a gem. I was trying to find a place to eat @8 pm on a wed night close to hospital and saw this place so thought I'd give it a try. This location take out only but don't let that deter you. Place is super clean on inside and smooth and easy pick up. If you order online , it automatically texts you when order is ready. Ok so I was debating on pizza or sandwich but with having to drive back to Charlotte I went with sandwich , if the pizzas are even half as good as the sandwiches I'll be in heaven!! The Muffaletta was redonklious!! Has to be one of the best Italian sandwich's I've had and I've had A LOT! I was a little skeptical with it being on peta bread , I was wrong and now it's the only way I want it! I don't kno for sure if they make it in house which I believe they do but it light n fluffy.
