Having sought out their newer location in downtown Charlottesville only to find it not open on the day I visited, I decided to try this more strip-mall-y location on the north side of town and got some takeout. It was ready right on time. Physically, the very thin crust pizza and garlic bread I got did not have a lot of heft, and it felt like an awfully small portion size for the money overall. If anything, the single cannoli I got might have been richer and more filling than the half a pizza I hate. The flavor was solid, with a browned crust, a note of basil, and high quality cheese. Their interpretation of garlic bread was a pizza crust with a subtle garlic flavor and some more cheese, and I got a side salad as well with some ranch that did well as a dipper for the bread. Overall, I can think of a couple of places in the Charlottesville area where I've gotten similar pizza but felt more full for the money and been in a better location more in the old part of town. I still have the other location of this pizzeria on my list to try and that one offers square pizzas (this one does not), so it's likely that I'll give it a chance. read more

Pizza was ok. Possible bias impacting my post is when I entered I had to wait a few minutes before someone greeted me and came to register to take my order. Slightly understandable if the place was packed but there was no one else there but me and a couple staff members eating lunch. The pizza was ok. Not bad, if it wasn't for the underwhelming service I would recommend it and still do w the caveat my service was subpar But Hey everyone has a bad day and maybe it was one of those for them. Though I would try not having a bad day on Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was a little dark but it was clean and spacious Though not many ppl there it didn't feel like seating/tables were on top of ppl where they were trying to pack in space for as many customers as possible. Oh my goodness! Where do I begin? First off I need to give a major shout out to Zach! He was so warm and friendly! He greeted us when we came into the restaurant, and made our experience super awesome! Thank you, Zach! The food was AMAZING! It was off the chains! I love pizza and it's been one of my favorite foods since I was a child. My personal opinion, if you're a pizza joint and you cannot make a good cheese pizza or pepperoni pizza, please hang up your apron! Not Popito's! Hands down their pizza hit on all cylinders! The pepperoni pizza was banging! I loved it! The pizza crust is lite and airy because, it's thin and cooked in a wood fire oven! We also had the "Bella" and added mushrooms and bell peppers...banging! Zach threw in a small container of "Jalapeño Ranch" to try...OMG! They are on to something with the "JR!" It's the fresh dill with the kick of jalapeños that did it for me! Let me tell you, if I could give them a higher score I would! The only thing that I gave me the "hee-bee gee-bees" is the bathroom. Pricey, but worth it. The wood fired pizza looks and tastes delicious. My favorites are the Meatza and Fun guy pie. Always served with a smile, takes minutes to make, and the lunch special is pretty decent too--a small pie and a drink for $7-9. Like others have said, Popitos is one of the better pizza places in Charlottesville. It is always tasty, good portions for the money you spend, and the interior is always very clean and tidy. Now, what really sets this place ahead of all other pizza joints in town, and other restaurants, is the service, primarily driven by a single worker. Zack is probably the friendliest person to work customer service in the entire town, among restaurants and stores. The guy is consistently welcoming and bubbly, always smiling and happy to chat. There are plenty of restaurants with friendly service, but for this guy it's not a "work demeanor", you can tell he is just a genuinely good, friendly person. Popitos pizza is competitive with the very best pizza places in town, but its customer service pushes it to the top. read more

Great Neapolitan for the price. Won't blow you away, but it's a quarter of the price of Lampo. They have a great selection of toppings, and the pizza travels well. For a family, especially with toddlers, the 6" is the perfect size. This however isn't a location you want to sit and eat at. It's small inside and not too inviting, but for pick up, it's great. The major downside is the wait. There's visibly not enough staff, so pick up takes a minute. If it's during a rush, you're forced to stand there idly killing time, even if your order is ready. Otherwise, definitely recommend at least trying as the other Neapolitan options are better but more costly. read more

Tried Popitos for the first time today. Amazing! This is one of our new favorites and some of the best (if not THE best) pizza in the Charlottesville area. I will stop in every time I'm on that side of town. Food: We tried a 10" MOB and a 10" Fun Guy pizza. The pizzas are cooked in a wood fired oven and you can see the whole process from the dining area. They're thin crust pizzas and cook in about 2 minutes. Expect some charring around the edges as you normally would with a wood fired oven. Both pizzas were absolutely delicious. Not over sauced like some, enough to get the flavor across without overpowering the toppings. If you like garlic you must try the Fun Guy pizza. In addition to the great flavors of the mushrooms and onions, you'll find whole garlic cloves from their garlic confit they make themselves and use as a topping. So flavorful, yet not overpowering like you might think. Service: The employees are great. Very helpful and personable. There are a bunch of tables if you choose to eat in and they'll bring the pizza to you. They have self serve soda fountain drinks or bottles/cans if you choose. Self serve paper plates, parm cheese, red pepper flakes, plastic utensils are available. Ambiance: Popitos is a fast food style pizza joint. Don't expect to be fawned over by a full waiter/waitress staff, cause you won't. What you will get is great food and a caring staff that makes an effort to ensure everything is to your liking. Popitos has gained a new loyal customer and I will visit whenever I can so I can make my way through the rest of their menu. read more

Ate here on Saturday in between my daughters' basketball games. Pizza was at least as good as when they were just their food truck/mobile food truck, which probably means even better because I wasn't eating it after several glasses of wine at a winery. Zucchini fires were exceptional, and I may have liked them even more than the pizza. Place is brand new, so clean and smells amazing. The girl at the counter was so sweet and not only was patient with our indecisiveness but went out of her way to double check if they had the soda I wanted. The vibe was super chill (it was also a Wednesday afternoon) and I loved watching them make the pizzas (as a Charlottesville native I have a lot of nostalgia for when the Brick Oven was in that location). I've been to many pizza places and I was pretty disappointed by this one. I paid 15 dollars for a pizza from here only to be disappointed. It was smaller than personal size, and had only onions and bell peppers on it because I chose to leave the mushrooms off. The dough was very raw still raw in the crust and throughout the entire pizza. The peppers and onions still tasted pretty raw as well.They also don't have any seasonings or sides of sauce such as ranch to add on or pay extra for. I don't think it is worth this price at all. They were also charging $17 for a tiny Margarita pizza. It is made by either high schoolers or young college students which is fine, but that means you're not even paying for something from a chef which would make is plausible to spend this amount of money. I would've been happier with papa John's for a cheaper price and having leftovers in my opinion. read more

I have to admit the pizza here is pretty darn good. The pepperoni pizza is flavorful and not greasy. We also tried the Caprezza and the hot pig and the garlic bread. The crust on all was perfect. The amount of roasted garlic on the garlic bread was outstanding. The Caprezza was outstanding. The hot honey was not as hot as other hot honey but it was delicious.
