Brought myself here for a solo birthday dinner and it was exactly what I was looking for. I was seated in the bar area, which I thought may get loud but I was pleasantly surprised that it was quite relaxing even while the restaurant was very full. My server, Essie, was very attentive and offered suggestions. The warmed baguette and carrot salad were a great starter but the star of the show was the steak frites! The meal is bigger than I expected, in the best way. The steak was cooked to my liking and the fries were crispy but not over done, delicious sauce as well. Honestly, I can't wait to go back! My one complaint was the flies, the patio seemed very popular and with the servers and patrons going in and out of the door constantly I had a couple circling my table and had to fish one out of my drink.
Visited Mon Ami Gabi with my boyfriend for Valentine's Day, and the service truly stood out. After being seated, I switched sides of the booth to sit next to him, and a staff member who wasn't even our server immediately noticed and reset the silverware on my new side. Throughout the evening, multiple team members checked on us (not just our server) which gave the experience a very polished, almost Michelin level feel. The ambiance is classic French bistro meets old money elegance: dim lighting, romantic, and perfect for date night. Food & Drinks: * Sidecar cocktail: Excellent. * French onion soup: The highlight of my meal. Rich, cheesy, perfectly oniony, and honestly one of the best French onion soups I've had. * Steak: My boyfriend enjoyed it, but I found it slightly chewy and under seasoned. The creamy sauce served with it, however, was delicious. * Mussels: Large portion with great garlic butter sauce and bread for dipping. The challenge was that most of the sauce sat at the bottom of the deep pot, making the mussels taste a bit bland at first. Interestingly, the leftovers the next day were amazing once everything had soaked in the sauce...flavorful and delicious. Overall: A charming French restaurant ideal for date night with standout service and a cozy atmosphere. I'd absolutely return and would love to explore more of the menu next time.
For my birthday, we went out to get a nice steak dinner at Mon Ami Gabi. We started out with a scallop that really got the dinner off right. With a nice glass of wine, you really get the base set for a delicious steak. I got the steak frites. The real highlight is the frites. I'm not sure what they do to the fries but they're probably the best fries I've ever had with a steak. And the best part is that they're celiac-friendly. For dessert, we finished it off a chocolate mousse. Overall, it made for a magical birthday dinner.

The warm baguette and sweet cream butter is a great way to start, but don't fill up too much on bread! For hors d'oeuvres we went with the onion soup and the Brie. The soup was amazing - one of the best I've had. Hot and salty and a good amount of cheese and bread. The Brie was pretty good too. I liked the walnuts and the jam and it wasn't too sweet but definitely a dish on the heavier side. For mains we got the steak frites and pork loin. Even though restaurant week said classique, we were able to get the bordelaise sauce (shhhh). And I'm so glad we did; it was sooo good. I loved the onions and the tenderness of the steak and the shape of the fries. Comparatively, the pork was a little disappointing. The pork was tender, but not as flavorful or dressed and we didn't love the plums. The sage and acorn squash were a nice add though. The profiterole was the only dessert choice for restaurant week and we thought it was tasty, but nothing out of this world.

The foie gras itself tasted really salted and had a strong egg-yolk flavor (I'm not sure if I'm describing this perfectly), which made it a little hard to enjoy on its own. It was pretty difficult to enjoy without the sides it came with. For my main, I ordered the steak frites, which came out perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The steak itself was great with the au poivre sauce. The fries were a little too thin for my liking, which made them slightly annoying to eat, but they were still a great addition with the steak. We finished with the bananas foster crepe for dessert, and that was simply delicious. A really great way to end the night. Overall, still just a solid and reliable spot with great service and a beautiful atmosphere. I'd definitely recommend it for a nice dinner out.
Mon Ami Gabi was the perfect spot for our group after visiting ZooLights. It is only a short walk from the Lincoln Park Zoo, which made it an easy transition from the cold into a warm and classic dining room. We came on the recommendation of a local classmate who takes his wife here for special occasions, so expectations were high. The meal lived up to it. We started with martinis that were crisp and well made, and the steak frites were exactly what you want from a French bistro. Tender steak, hot fries, and simple flavors done really well. We finished with the bananas foster crepe, which was rich, warm, and a great way to end the night. The atmosphere is cozy with just the right lighting and a comfortable pace. I can see why it is a go to spot for celebrations. It works well for groups, but it would make an excellent date night location. Mon Ami Gabi delivered a memorable meal and a great cap to our evening.
I've eaten here probably 5 times for both brunch and dinner. It's always a vibe and sitting outside was more casual and relaxing. Mac and cheese could change your life and the baguette- good shit !!! The salad with the buttermilk dressing is lovely and everything is always good here- great service. Would always recommend It's below an apartment complex where the rooms are 15k a month and the CEO of McDonalds rents there so food for thought
Nice French bistro with the requisite elegance, experienced wait staff, and classic menu. Set inside the Belden Stratford hotel, this is an upscale place that's been there for decades and is a consistent option for fine dining. Had their warm baguette with butter and jam (very fresh and delicious) and the steak frites au poivre which was very good but short of amazing (pounded thin with good sauce and a nice portion of frites, 8/10)

The crusty bread with butter is the best way to start things off. I just wish the parking situation in Lincoln Park was easier, and that they had a happy hour like their DC location I used to go to all the time.
A friend and I had dinner here last night. It was a very enjoyable evening and overall the food was very good. Our server was very nice and did her best to make sure we were taken care of. Unfortunately, I feel that management gives the servers too many tables to take care of and as last night was a busy evening, our server was spread very thin. Through no fault of her own she was not able to provide the level of attention I would expect. We started with the French martinis and had a Nicoise Salad, that was on the specials menu for our appetizer. We each ordered the roast chicken for our entrée. The chicken was very moist and flavorful and the mashed potatoes very creamy. However, the mushrooms were overdone to the point of being hard. For dessert we ordered.an Apple Tarte Tatin and a Raspberry Almond Tart. Both were very good. They have a lovely patio area where they now have a happy hour during the week. Many people were sitting out there, even though the evening was kind of cool, the restaurant provided heaters. I look forward to enjoying the patio in the future with My Husband.

We ordered the Collet ($30), NA Paloma ($10), Duck Leg Confit ($23), Petite Green Salad ($15), Filet Mignon Bordeaux ($50), and Trout Almondine ($30). Everything was delicious, though I found the salad and filet portions a bit small. For dessert, we were treated to complimentary Profiteroles, Crème Brûlée, and Chocolate Mousse, both to mark our celebration and as a gesture for a service hiccup. While the service was generally good, our main concern was the long wait- it took over an hour for any food to arrive. It seemed there may have been a mix-up with the order or a delay in the kitchen. Once we brought it to the staff's attention, they handled it professionally, comped one dish, and offered additional champagne. We also tried to order delivery from Mon Ami Gabi on another occasion- and I would not recommend doing that. The portions are small and not worth the price.
Overall the food was amazing! Come in hungry because it is a Lot of carbs thrown your way. The fresh bread served was a standout in this meal. The service was nothing to call home to I'm assuming because it was closer to the end of the day but considering the amount of money spent and the ambiance of the restaurant I was disappointed it felt like we were forgotten about. We had more interactions with the busser than our actual server.. ambiance was a great date night or celebration worthy restaurant I will be returning!

We had been to @monamigabibistro in Las Vegas a couple times, but had never visited their #chicago location, so when we got to pick a French restaurant, we went with this one. The location itself is beautiful Patio was closed due to heavy rain Inside is pretty small but pretty and cozy ( although floors are REALLY slippery ) The appetizer ( steak tartare) was delicious and came out quick; However we waited way TOO long for the main dishes to come out. My fish was the BEST fish I've eaten ( I want to go back soon to have it again) and dessert was unfortunately just OK, Nothing outstanding Drinks were good but service not so much. read more
Love coming to Mon Ami Gabi. It's such a cute spot to have dinner with a date or with your besties. Our waitress was wonderful and attentive. We wanted to share a side so she made sure we got the bigger size to share. The food is amazing as always! We all had the steak and frites. Definitely recommend getting the escargot, so gooooood! read more

We had a great experience here!! The service was great and on par with our whole experience and the great ambiance. We started out with the mussels & the lobster bisque. The mussels were very tasty with a light flavorful broth & it was the best lobster bisque I have ever had!! My bf got the special of the night: crostini with creamed spinach, topped with filet, foie gras, & truffle sauce and he loved it!! I got the filet with au poivre sauce & substituted the fries for sautéed mushrooms. It was so delicious & the steaks were both cooked to perfection! The vanilla crème brûlée was good, but not a standout of the meal. Definitely recommend this place!! read more
Very charming and cozy French restaurant. We came for our wedding anniversary and the hospitality was incredible. Very diverse and tasty cocktails started the meal with some champagne to finish. We ate chicken liver mousse pâté which was very potent and flavorful, fresh oysters flown in from New Brunswick, and a very robustly flavorful and sizable lobster Thermidor. We wrapped up with a classic vanilla creme brûlée. Every dish was tasty and well presented. . read more
Mon Ami Gabi is always a reliable choice on a night out. It's consistently good, has great ambiance, and exceptional service. I think it is one of the best amongst the Lettuce Entertain You restaurants. They make a great cocktail and the small plates are solid. We always enjoy the Steak Frites, the sauces and compound butters are always a hit and the meat is always cooked the way we like it. The restaurant is beautiful and the servers are attentive and informative. read more

Second time here. Still good but not as great as last time. The famous chicken dish is indeed super juicy. Not sure how they make the breast meat to be also so juicy. Skin's crispy as well. Big portion Côte de Boeuf: 75$ ribeye steak submerged in leek and butter. Very strong flavor. A bit too salty. Otherwise it'll be perfect. Huge portion as well. End up just finished half of it Can't go wrong with deviled egg. Only wish the egg white's a bit softer read more

Everything about this meal was fantastic! And our server was so nice too. Great patio for the summer, loved the french music. Felt so relaxed. The food was amazing - my favorite... I can't decide!! Next time we will try the steak. One thing to note - my boyfriend and I split everything so the images are all half portions! I will be going back here for sure. read more

I came here on a double date during Chicago Restaurant Week. I love that it's a good deal and way for people to be introduced to a place with more than they would normally order (most likely). Being part of the Lettuce Entertain You group, I'm always a fan of using and earning loyalty points. Our menu featured escargot, warm baguettes with salted butter, French onion soup, a delicious egg and bacon frisée salad...and those were just the starters! I thoroughly enjoyed my frisée salad...perfectly balanced and full of flavor! My next course was one of their signature dishes: steak frites. The herby butter, the perfectly cooked steak, the fries...delicious. For dessert, we had profiteroles. Basically, a cream puff cut in half with ice cream in the middle and hot fudge on top. I'd skip the dessert for something else next time, but would definitely order the first two dishes again. I also thought their black velvet espresso martini was lovely. We finished our night at the bar and loved talking with a really nice lady that told me her name and it's gone now. She was awesome! Ponytail, glasses, blond ish hair...Rachel? Doesn't matter - everyone there was kind and hospitable. Parking: it's impossible most often, so unless you're going on a quiet night, book a SpotHero. Valet is available too. read more

Definitely one of the top restaurants in Chicago, especially for a very nice date night or celebrating an occasion. I came here for my birthday and it was a top tier spot. The staff are all great and the food was very good. My friend and I started off with escargots ($17.95) and a half dozen of oysters ($25.95). Both are great starters as you have some fresh oysters and have a warm bread to munch on. For the entrees, we shared the mussels ($21.95) and the steak and frites with Bernaise sauce ($38.95 + 35.95). There were plenty of mussels to share which was perfect to save as leftovers. I had to take it home which I didn't complain at all. There were plenty to eat and lots of sauce to take home as well. We enjoyed our steak which was cooked very well. We ordered some pommes puree ($7.50) on the side as we felt it was necessary with eating some steak. We decided to end with some dessert as we were enjoying our time. Overall, our meal was delicious and we were sad we finished our meal even though we felt so full. I highly recommend coming! read more

Came to Mon Ami Gabi for restaurant week dinner ($60). The meal consisted of a baguette, appetizers, main, and profiteroles for dessert. We got the escargot and melted brie for our apps and trout almondine and mussels marinière for our mains. Overall, I thought the food alright but the portion size was really good. The Brie was pretty rich and the trout was too buttery in my opinion, so the combo of the two was just a bit too much for me. I also thought it was amusing how much bread they gave us - baguette first and then the escargot and mussels both came with demi baguettes and sliced baguette with the Brie. We went home with two full demi baguettes at the end of the night! The baguettes come unsliced so it's a bit messy to cut and split. In terms of service, we did have to wait a bit despite having a reservation. I also found it a bit strange that they didn't give us the restaurant week menu by default and we had to ask for it separately. If this was for the food and service alone, I'd probably give Mon Ami Gabi 3 stars but I feel like it was good value for restaurant week. We walked away feeling stuff and with leftovers. read more

Everything was great! I'll be the hype person for a moment-- but Michael gave the best service; extremely attentive and Mon Ami Gabi is our #1 place to frequent from here on. The building was beautiful. We sat outside because the weather was amazing, and the patio was aesthetically appealing as well. How do I give 1 million stars out of 5? It has been a while since I have had a meal at Mon Ami Gabi and I mean a while, at least 10 years. Overall, it has not changed much, and we had a fun time. We started out with the Warmed Baguette with sweet cream butter and an amuse bouche. Not sure what the amuse bouche was as I did not sample it, but it could have been some sort of salad/slaw, I just don't know. But whatever it was, The Doctor and our friends enjoyed it. The Warmed Baguette was very good with the butter. I am not a butter user per se, but with a very good bread, I do like to add a smear. In addition to the Warmed Baguette, we got the Chicken Liver Mousse Pâté with red wine-Dijon mustard, cornichons, and the Deviled Eggs (smoked whitefish caviar, herbs, black pepper aioli). The pâté on the baguette was very nice, lovely texture and flavor profile. I enjoyed the Deviled Eggs very much, but based on my palate, I would say for the average diner they might be on the salty side. I am a fan of salty, but for me to comment on the level of salt in dish, it has to be on the high side. I thought the eggs were great, but would just like to put that observation out there for folks who are not as big a fan as I am. For dinner I got the Classique Steak Frites with maître d'hôtel butter which was cooked to perfection. The butter is always a nice touch, but if I am honestly, this could have used a touch of salt, but other than that it was delish. The frites on the other hand, were not to my liking cut/shape-wise. I was looking more for think fries, but these were like shoestring potatoes instead. While the flavor of the potatoes were good, I would have preferred to be eating fries with some substance behind them. The Doctor and one of our friends got the Steak Frites with the Béarnaise sauce. The sauce was on point, and the steak was good, but both of them were surprised that it was thin. It looked as if it may have been pounded that way? Not sure, but still very tasty. For dessert, I went with the Apple Tarte Tatin with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. Didn't get a photo as we I am big fan of apple desserts that are warm and have vanilla ice cream to boot. Normally I share desserts as I am not typically a big dessert eater, but I am sorry that I did share it because I could have eaten that all by myself, it was that tasty. The one sticking point for me at Mon Ami Gabi is the seating arrangement. It is nothing new and I have seen this at plenty of French restaurants, but that European seating arrangement were tables are very close together has always bothered me as I don't necessarily want to have dinner with people I don't know...HAHAHAHA! Not a deal breaker for as what I usually do is scope out the seating and next time request a table away from the action. That said, it was good to be back. Think the reason we stopped coming here is when we moved and were no longer in walking distance. There is street parking, but it is not easy to come by....so thank goodness for Spot Hero as we were able to park about 3 blocks away. So now we have a reason to return and most likely will, if only to get that Apple Tarte Tatin dessert. read more

Walking thru the dining area to the patio, I could just hear "then he kissed me by the Crystal's in my mind as we passed by busy bus boys, waiters and guests. Our waiter Michael l was an absolute gem. Really brought the whole experience over the top (good way). Made me think to myself "they dont make waiters like this anymore" We had the brie, escargot, salmon, hanger steak (Michael's recommendation), and everything was just amazing. Everything was absolutely incredible! I got the duck confit (life changing) and my boyfriend and I shared Mac and cheese and green bean sides while he got the chicken dinner. His dinner was HUGE and he had lots of leftovers. Duck leg confit is great if you want to get something uniquely French that you won't be able to find at many other places in the city. His roast chicken dinner was very delicious and economical, but not as unique (you could probably find something similar at other restaurants.) read more
Had dinner there last week. The restaurant was located in a nice building and you need to enter the restaurant through the entrance of the building. The place was small and crowded with people, so I ended up sitting at the bar. Ordered Baguette, Duck Confit, Sea Scallop "St. Jacque", Melted Brie. Baguette was just so-so; similar to those sold in Whole Foods. The Duck Confit was extremely salty, especially for the beans, so I ordered the Melted Brie instead. The scallop was the best dish among what I ordered. It had a great combination of sourness of juice, creaminess of sauce and tenderness of meat. Service was kinda slow. read more

Best French food in the city! You can't beat the cozy vibes, amazing dishes and fantastic service Mon Ami Gabi brings to the table (literally). Must order: Caesar salad, escargots, steak tartare and steak frites. Love that they'll split the steak frites for you. No wonder it was named one of the most romantic restaurants in the country! read more
Loved this dinner so much! Came here with my mom for an early Mother's Day celebration. Started with the escargot which was amazing - luckily my mom and I love escargot, and they have a whole baguette which was great to have to eat with the extra butter. I got the classic steak frites which was bomb. My mom got a duck dish that was on special that night, not a regular menu item - she said it was amazing. Finished our meal with an affogato and the banana foster crepe (my fav). We'll def be back next time my mom visits :) read more
I LOVE MON AMI GABI and it's so sad that there are only a handful of locations. For me being a proclaimed Paris-aholic, dining at Mon Ami Gabi is as close as I can get to being in a Parisienne cafe here in the states. I had never been to the Chicago location (just Vegas), so when I got the chance to go when I was in town for a conference, I went solo and dinner by myself. This location is smaller than the one in Vegas, and my server informed me that it's the original location. He was EXCELLENT. I believe his name was Eric, and I remember that more than two months after the meal. The fact that I was dining in the OG restaurant made it even cozier and more intimate. It also is a restaurant comprised of a couple of rooms so it's not like you're dining in one big open space. Intimate. I went with my "classic" meal selection: -The always-offered warm baguette. -Foie gras, which is as spectacular as it is in Paris -Filet with bernaise and fries -- cooked perfectly and delicious -I got creamed spinach. But it wasn't necessary. I ordered plenty of food. It was house made with like real whole leaves of spinach in a creamy sauce. -And creme brulee for dessert. I would always always recommend one of these restaurants. read more
Best French restaurant in Chicago! Service is spectacular and they will split any dish for you, including their epic French onion soup! Personal opinion - best broth of any French onion soup in the city! Sunday specialty is their classic beef Wellington. Perfectly medium rare & perfectly portioned sauce. If it's your birthday, they give you their house made profiterole with chocolate sauce to die for! Tables are a bit close, so you can hear the conversations of any table near you. But everyone seemed to be celebrating, so it was all good. read more
Went to an event at the Lincoln Park zoo and came by here afterward with a dear friend. It's literally adjacent to the Conservatory and a 3 min walk to the park entrance. Note: It's connected to "The Belden-Stratford" (an upscale high rise) and you have to come through their lobby to check into restaurant. Patio seating was open so we went for it. A little breezy but still quite nice out. Waitress promptly greeted us to take drink orders, then shared menu highlights and specials. We started with this absolutely delicious warm Brie plate with apricots, candied walnuts, and honey. This was much larger than we expected but we enjoyed every last little drop of it. I highly suggest getting it if it's on the menu (it's seasonal). We each ordered steak frites (forgot to snap a photo, was a bit immersed in conversation) which comes with a choice of 5 different sauces and a side plate of asparagus. All was cooked to perfection. Kinda wish the waitress came to check on us a bit more, we might've had another round of drinks or some sparking water. Nonetheless, it was a great meal and left very satisfied. read more
