Came during restaurant week and the vibes were honestly amazing. Super intimate and cozy, perfect for a quiet night out. Atmosphere was easily a 9.5/10 and the service was great too. The first course really impressed me. The Brussels were chopped up (which I'd never had before) and so flavorful with the caramelized onions. The French pumpkin soup was thick, cozy, and delicious with pumpkin seeds and great texture. The second course was more mid. The carrots had nice presentation and an interesting flavor, but didn't wow me. The salad tasted pretty normal. For mains, the chicken breast surprised me. Crispy on the outside, soft inside, and the tomatoes added a nice sweetness. The salmon was cooked well but had a slightly bitter taste. Dessert cookies were alright, nothing crazy. I've never seen cocktails priced so high and thought I've had better cocktails for better prices. We ended up paying around $340 total due to the add ons. Veggies were over salted. Considering the price and that this is a high end fine dining restaurant it was lackluster. Early Winter Farm Plate of Moulard Duck Breast, Roasted Quail, Lacqured Pork Belly, and Foie Gras: 5/5 This was a great showcase of various dishes from the restaurant. Each component was cooked exceptionally. An elevated hearty meal. Delicious and a must try. Pumpkin Tartine Pecan and Caramel Ice Cream Rum Allspice Citrus Confit: 4/5 The flavor profile turned this into an unexpected refreshing dessert and a perfect way to finish off the meal. It cleanses the plate well. Overall: 3/5 The atmosphere was great. The service could be better. The food overall 4/5. Also there was an automatic 20 some odd percent tip for a group of two. This is an expected average dinner tip percentage so in ways it's fine. However, unsure if this was standard practice at this establishment. My girlfriend picked Brindille as a lovely 40 birthday dinner date. Unfortunately, it was an unpleasant experience. Our server provided excellent experience to all the tables next to us, however he did not provide us the same experience. We ordered our appetizer and entrees together, and he did not check in until he dropped the dessert menu. He also called us the "lovebirds" in a mocking tone. His demeanor when taking our order was unpleasant. He took a special occasion and made it unpleasant. Considering our incredibly brief interaction, I can only conclude that he was unhappy to serve a lesbian couple. As a veteran of the service industry I was incredibly disappointed. I would caution other queer couples before booking. I can say that while our apps were lackluster ( asparagus salad and lobster bisque) our entrees ( steak and duck breast) were solid. My partner chose Brindille because she knows I love strong female chefs, but our overall experience left a poor taste in my mouth, and we won't be back. read more

This restaurant is a great example of one that decides to do Restaurant Week to bring in traffic but doesn't actually fulfill the spirit of Restaurant Week. From the moment we got there, it was clear they wanted to extract as much money from us as possible and if not, didn't much care if we enjoyed ourselves. First they gave us only the drink menus and made us sit a while before giving us the food menus. We did order a bottle of wine and a $14 (!) lemonade. Finally they gave us the food menu. While it was a $60 pre fix menu, they had a ton of expensive add ons (not like the $5 upgrades you sometimes see for pricier options) and even charged extra money for bread. We decided to just order the $60 pre fix items, as even Chicago Michelin restaurants still offer a filling meal at the price set during Restaurant Week. Unfortunately it was overall a mediocre and disappointing meal. First the tiny appetizers arrived. While the Brussels sprouts were good, it was a small amount. I wanted to cave and order the $8 bread (that should have just come with this, especially given how slow it was to get each course), but the waiter never checked on us so I could not. The waiter also never asked again if we wanted any more drinks or refills. It took about 70 minutes from first sitting to get the main course, all that time starving. The veg people at the table were in for huge disappointment, the veg main courses had maybe 1-2 g protein at best. One dish came with a tiny sprinkling of cheese and the other a couple chickpeas. The salmon dish was good, but it came with a giant pile of lentils underneath it that seemed unnecessary compared to vegetables and made the veg people envious; not sure why if they had a veg protein they didn't include it in the veg meals! My friend said the carrot dish tasted oddly fermented, so she tried to send it back and ask for the other veg dish, but could not find the waiter until we were done eating. He did swap it out, but scolded her for not telling him the last time he'd bothered to check in, which was literally the moment the food was served and before any of us had taken a bite. Dessert was another long wait, this time they served five of us and made us wait for the sixth one, which is very awkward given each dish either included melting ice cream or hot donuts. The flan and cheesecake were good but tiny mouthfuls which were disappointing given we were still hungry at this point. The donuts were more substantial but dry/hard and did not have evidence of the promised pecan sauce. Overall I will not be coming back here. I recommend the owners consider not participating in Restaurant Week if they cannot deliver and aren't willing to create a filling $60 tasting menu. I was really excited to try this restaurant and I would have been happy to come back another time and pay much more for their regular menu, but definitely not after such a disappointing meal. read more

I came here for my bachelor party. I'm a huge Francophile and dabble in making French food at home from time to time, after eating here I should probably stop trying but am inspired to continue trying. The food was spectacular. I had 5 people in my party. When we arrived our table wasn't ready so the maître d sent is over to the bar next door for 20 minutes and then personally came and told us our table was ready. The restaurant was dark and cozy. The table was immaculately set. The wine list was exhaustive and offered lots of gems. I ordered the chinon and it was a beautiful bouquet, floral with fruit, not tannic but not flabby. I ordered the duck breast and an appetizer of Brussels sprouts and someone else ordered bread for the table. Before the Brussels sprouts came out everyone was give something similar to fried potato purée but I think was chickpeas? Not sure exactly, but the texture was unlike anything I'd had before. It was perfectly airy and melted in my mouth like cotton candy in water. The Brussels sprouts came out later and we're stellar. They were likely charred but not to the point that they were desiccated or feeling like they were dropped in the fryer. The sauce served with the sprouts added a light acidity which made them far less of the heavy affair Brussels sprouts can become. Eventually all of our food was served. Every dish felt magical. A common question at the table was "what's this? Oooo what's that?" Before diving right in and coming to the realization that the only answer to the question that mattered was that it was delicious. My duck was cooked perfectly. The texture was immaculate, felt more akin to a steak than anything. I also tried a bit of my friends steak which was utter perfection. I had one friend who kept talking about his expectations. Brindille is, for most people, usually out of the budget and my friend said that for him the bar was really high and that everything he had far exceeded even his sky high expectations. After we finished the main dish we looked at the dessert menu but we were all stuffed and decided to pass. Still though the waiter brought out a small plate of house made marshmallows with orange and some sort of chocolate truffle. The texture of the marshmallow was so light and the truffle was very rich. Our waiter, who's name I don't remember, was fantastic. He was endearing and funny but didn't come off as over bearing or like he was trying to be nice. Everyone at the table was very happy with the service especially as most of us were alien to fine dining. We had not visited Chicago in years. I read about Carrie Nahabedian creating Brindille with her cousin and had good memories of her cooking at NAHA, so thought this would be a good choice. Service was very engaging and did a nice job of moving us through the meal keeping our table well serviced. We opted for the eight-course tasting menu and wine pairing. We had some hits and some misses. On balance the wine was stronger than the food and sensed real talent in the procuring and pairing the wine with the dishes. A few of the hits were the duck with foie gras and the mushroom soup was decadent. IMHO more effort was often spent on the beautiful physical construction of some of the dishes to be Instagam worthy (like the eye-catching potato tartin) instead of the taste. I am honestly not trying to be snarky. The dishes were beautiful, but I had higher hopes (or maybe better memories of NAHA). Nothing was bad, but on balance, many of the dishes tasted just ok. The bottom line is that I believe the price is out of balance with the quality of the meal. Total price for two eight-course tasting menus and two wine pairings was $870 (including tax and automatic 22% gratuity). If it were a couple hundred dollars cheaper, I would have a much more favorable impression. read more

At almost a hundred dollars, I felt that dish was completely underwhelming!. It did not taste bad, however, it did not taste nor was it presented like a dish that I expect from a restaurant where you pay over 250 dollars for a 3 course meal with two cocktails. The service I must say was very good, so was the ambiance. The food and presentation however just does not meet the level of it's price. I was so excited about this, but the restaurant really disappointed me. It was a small, cosy restaurant space. Service was just okay. It was a mostly empty restaurant - just our table and another table at the time - but even so it was hard to get the server's attention. Also, the server made us feel silly when asking questions about the menu, which isn't great, and we overheard the same thing with the server talking to the other table. The food was tasty and original. But nothing blew us away. The duck was a little tough, the lamb wasn't very flavorful, etc. With the disappointments above, it wouldn't be that big of a deal if the restaurant weren't so exorbitantly expensive. Given the very high cost (including compared to other incredible French restaurants in the city like Obelix), I was deeply disappointed and dissatisfied. The restaurant week menu was a nice showcase of the elegant meals, the dining room's tall ceilings help create the sense of more space and it's located right in the middle of Gold Coast, so parking is a challenge, better to cab or ride share since there no valet and the parking lots nearby are rather expensive (add $45). Service was nice, it was a packed restaurant when we went but we didn't feel rushed and our server certainly checked in enough and offered good opinions and options. I was checking that the few tables that were open did not get full until 9pm. I could have given this place 5 stars because it is very tres Joli and elegant, warm and cozy. I did get irritated about my reservation specially when I was reminded that this was a French restaurant. I did take 2 year of Francois. The food was very delicious I loved the lobster, the steak the duck and all the dessert. The owner was very pleasant at the end with us he came to our table to introduced himself so it compensated. I also noticed that girls can come and sit at this cozy bar and just have a drink and relax. The great atmosphere allows you to relax on a nice weekend because everyone dresses nice and elegant. If I was the owner we I would not have my family members to hang out in the restaurant because it distracts the workers from doing their job because the family members need more attention but so do the customers. We were there for Restaurant Week and came away disappointed. Here's the bullets: - We had a really friendly, but worthless, waiter. He showed up with menus, then mid-meal to do a quick check and then to give us the bill (in two hours...) We didn't even get a chance to order cocktails. We waited forever just to get the bill. Super disappointing for such an expensive meal. - All the work was done by the busboys. They kept our water filled and plates cleared but we couldn't order anything from them. - The food was pretty good, but not great. We didn't walk away talking about the food at all. All we could discuss was the waiter and his lack of attention. I mean, where was he for two hours? What was he spending his time doing? We had so many questions. - It was a really expensive meal. For five of us, we spent almost $700, without being able to order cocktails. The dinner rolls were $35. That's usually something that's brought to the table for free. My desert was an extra $18 on top of the "Restaurant Week bundle." There was an automatic 25% tip added with no option to modify it. Oddly, it wasn't even called a tip. It had some other weird name. I don't mind paying $125 a head for a really good meal with great service, but this visit was not what we were hoping for. If I could give less than 1 star rating I would. Made reservations for my wife's birthday and it started out great with ambiance and fantastic drinks, but that's where the positivity ends. The server told us that it was a little backed up, so we ordered all the food ahead of time. That being said the dining room was about 2/3 full at best. Our salad and squash soup took 40 minutes. About an hour after that we got our main dish. It arrived cold, undercooked and chewy. Potatoes were half raw. Then it took another half hour for the dessert to arrive, which had long strands of hair. When we spoke to the server about it discretely, he just asked what we would like to do about it. They comped the dessert that we sent back with the hair and a drink. No apology or anything. The whole dinner took us about 2.5-3 hours. Needless to say, we overstayed our parking and then had to call the attending box for another 20 minutes to try and get out of the garage because it was already closed. Thought the whole time we patiently waited for our food, the server never came by to ask for more drinks or offer an update on the delivery. It was so cold inside the dining room that we, as well as other couples near us were wearing our jackets. The staff was just bunched up near the POS in the back chatting. We enjoy fine dining fairly often but this was the worst experience by a land slide. I've had better service at a food truck. This is a review of the "Holiday French High-Tea" which properly should be called "Afternoon Tea" service at Brindille. On November 17 I made reservations for 6 for December 14, indicating that there was one Vegan guest and we were celebrating my birthday, which is on 12/14. These were two pieces of information that I was encouraged to add to the reservation by Open-Table and then the many calls I had with Brindilles' staff. The food was, as always, exquisite and beautifully served. Our first morsel was the Provence French Pumpkin Soup served as a large shot, followed by a delicate flaky savoury Orange-Currant-Anise Scone and a Crumpet. Six Canapés were served to each, all delicate and flavorful, the feuillette of beech mushrooms, celery root and truffle was my favorite. Cumber, Fennel, Fromage bland and candied buddha hand lemon; tomme crayeuse, with fig, over apple and rustic toast; cured smoked salmon with quail egg and smoked arctic char roe; roasted chicken salad with greek village honey and prune; and the last date nut bread, maple cream with cranberry and Armenian walnut syrup - All delicious nibbles. For my personal taste, there was an imbalance of finger-sandwiches (salty) and desserts (sweets) To complete the tea serving a cornucopia of festive holiday desserts was placed on our table. I enjoyed a Delicate flavorful black tea - blend of black teas from China, Sri Lanka and India with wild aromatic roses which they call Samurai Rose Noir and a glass of Pommery Brut Rose - my favorite since my youth in Buenos Aires. You may be wondering why I am giving the service only two stars. Going back to the reservations, which I did almost a month in advance and talked with the staff at least once per week as they called me for confirmation several times, the service we received was subpar for this establishment and the exorbitant price for the tea-service. I was expecting an ALL-ENCOMPASSING EXCELLENT experience which fell very short and disappointed all of us. I confirmed several times throughout the month that we have one vegan in our party. This information was corroborated during each call (minimum of 4 calls) and the hostess when we arrived. Much to our surprised, our server informed us "is so busy and there was miscommunication", "communication was not passed down", "we are so busy we disconnected". Our severed seemed too preoccupied with time, too hyperactive, to even care to attend to my friend's vegan dietary restrictions, which let me remind the audience, was address several times with Brandille's staff during the month before the event. All six of us felt rushed through the whole tea event. Our server continued to apologize and make excuses for the lack of choices, rushed us through the process, did not re-fill our teapots with hot water promptly (or asked if we wanted a refill). On the menu, the first course offered two choices and our server did not provide us with any options. She was completely oblivious to our vegan friend's presence and we had to ask her to talk with the chef to bring our friend something to eat. They brought a beautiful salad and sorbet for which they expected her to pay a full tea-price of $80. Again, we expressed our disappointment to our server and asked for a discount on the vegan option as our friend did not get to partake in the exquisite food experience. At the end of this event, which was to celebrate my birthday as expressed during reservation (written and over the phone), I apologized to my friends for the extravagant overprice tag ($120+ per serving) for the atrocious and unpleasant service. I have dinned at the Michelin-Starred Naha (prior to relocation and become Brindille) and at Brindille and would have never expected this lack of consideration to their patrons. read more

I reserved a table for my anniversary and was hoping for something special. We walked in at 8 on a Friday and the restaurant was half full with mostly two tops. The gentleman whom seated us was kind off putting. I kind of feel this a is restaurant frequented by mostly regulars, who they cater to with exuberance. The food was really good but still not worthy of the prices. We started with an amazing foie gras ($45) and a delicious onion tarte. My wife had a fish and I had steak. I ordered it medium rare but it came medium. I would have said something to the waiter but he disappeared and never checked in on us. At this point, we had a $200 bottle of wine and overly expensive food so we passed on dessert. Was really expecting better since we were fans of NaHa. read more

We came to Brindille for my birthday dinner. I was in town to visit my twin sister and we were celebrating with our grandparents. We have a pretty French background, and thought that Brindille was a great fit. The server was nice, but just a little too "extravagant". They were very excited and somewhat in your face about the food and components of the dishes. It was a little too much to handle, but the sentiment was nice. We enjoyed some "beautiful rolls" and butter to start and had some rosé champagne as an apéritif. We were served a tasty little amuse bouche of two potato croquettes. As we enjoyed our wine and conversation, we were given a full, in depth rundown of the menu, which made the environment just a little stuffy as drawn-out descriptions were a little forced on us. Despite the pretty long wait times between courses (30 mins +) our food was very tasty and well presented. I think the service can be reeled back a bit, maybe to allow for the guests to enjoy the food and each other more than the establishment. read more

Hands down the most astonishingly rude waiter I've ever seen in 30 years dining around the world. Dinner for six - my father-in-law had just turned 90, and we were celebrating. Before we even sat down, we were insulted several times. The waiter, who looked a bit like a younger James Carville - bald with a soul patch - pulled out the round table, and when we began to arrange ourselves on the banquette, he commanded my kids to move to different places, then when we were all baffled, he said venomously, "I don't care where you sit," and walked away, throwing his arms in the air. Other diners near us were offered tap or bottled water; we were not. Then, he impatiently barked at us through the order-taking and abandoned us for most of the two plus hour meal. A very kind support waiter who bussed our table was attentive and took additional wine orders and helped with our requests, as we were clearly being ignored. This is an expensive restaurant that purports to be fine dining. Fine French dining means more than good food. It means gracious hospitality. Most of the food was good, not excellent, and the hospitality was non-existent. From the unwelcoming host at the entrance to the shockingly rude waiter. As for the food, most of it was good - not sublime - and many of the dishes were unsuccessful. The timing of the courses was also atrocious. We arrived at 6:30, yet our main courses didn't come until after 8. And sadly, on such a special occasion, our collective experience was ruined by this man's truculence. read more

We made a RSVP for Valentine's day for 8:30. Arrived right on the dot but was told to wait until our tables were ready. We were given the option to hang our coat up and a choice of two tables by the window. As the window is dimmed from the outside pedestrians were unable to see us while they walk by. The reason for the two star review is simply because our food took much too long to arrive to our table. Even with the drinks we had ordered as well as appetizers, the wait time for the main course was too spaced out. I spent a lot of time reading the ingredients and matching the dish with the ingredients listed on the menu and it was a hard to figure out everything as the server never even bothered to explain what any of the food served was. I understand that it's Valentine's day and maybe the restaurant is trying to accommodate as many tables as possible in the limited work night ( middle of the week), however I don't understand how busy they can be compared to the rush there was for restaurant week. What made it even more frustrating was the two tables that came after us was able to get served first. I am giving it three starts because the quality of the ingredients was very fresh and exquisite as well as the pairing of flavors. If I was to give suggestions for the restaurant in the future it would be improve the service for a top end french restaurant. read more
