I went to Mom's Kitchen for breakfast, on a recommendation from a local waitress and was not disappointed. I had the biscuits and sausage gravy, all homemade, which was very good, best I've had in the area. Big chunks of sausage in a very tasty gravy, very good fluffy biscuit. The egg I ordered was cooked as ordered and the sausage patty's were cooked perfectly. Waitress was friendly and efficient even though she was very busy. Not as good as I remember Grandma's, but pretty darn close. I'll definitely return. read more

This was our first trip to Coos Bay. We saw other reviews for "Mom's Kitchen" and thought we'd give her a try. All I can say is what a diamond in the rough. One of Mom's sons was working the counter. The restaurant is still family run (for 36 years) Mom still comes in a couple days a week as she is now 83. My husband and I had the best breakfast ever. Where do I start? Service is fast and attentive. My omelet was stuffed with ham and sausage with onions and mushrooms. All ingredients were so fresh, delicious and generous. The hash browns are made from scratch as well as the giant light and fluffy pancakes. I saw a plate served that was smothered in their home made meat gravy. I asked if I could have a little taste of the gravy as I had never seen it made with large pieces of German sausage in it. Of course he was proud to have me taste it. It was delightful!! Big with meat flavor and not greasy and not glue like. Portions are large and priced very reasonably. We would stop in again. read more

Stopped in at moms kitchen for a big breakfast to fuel for our day in the canoes. Friendly at home service. I had the breakfast steak and it was cooked just right, coffee was hot and medium strong, my cup was never empty. Chocolate chip pancakes were so fluffy! This place is a perfect 10!!! It is exactly what we needed this morning. The pancakes are humongous to fill our boys' appetites, the bacon was crisp to perfection, hot chocolate was topped off with a mountain of whipped cream and sprinkles, and the bottomless coffee mugs certainly kept us well caffeinated. The kitchen never got a rest while we were there yet everyone behind the counter including Mom were all cheerful and appeared genuinely happy. I wish we had a place just like this at home. My friends and I had brunch here based on the yelp recommendations. It was a good choice. It's called Mom's Kitchen, but seems like Dad does all the cooking, lol. I had the chicken fried steak, which was very good and quite filling. The eggs were cooked just right. However, what was really amazing were the hash browns, which were probably the best I've ever had. Nice and crispy on the outside while moist and tender on the inside. Hash browns are off the hook good, whether "stuffed" or "O'Brien ". Beware the pancakes , they are as big as your head so one is probably enough unless you want to take out leftovers or are very hungry! Staff are really nice and the place is very comfortable. By far one of our favorite stops on our trip! When you walk in and its a tiny little place full of old people, you know it's gonna be a good breakfast! The staff were so friendly! This is what you would expect from a independent non chain store cafe. The seating is a little tight but even if you have to wait to be seated its worth it! The Hash Browns were not the frozen variety and they were not dehydrated, they looked and tasted great! I had the the German sausage it too was not something you would buy in the supermarket. It was not over spiced and it too was done to perfection. What can I say? Even the scrambled eggs came to the table hot and fluffy. Thank you YELP for helping us find this place. We have probably driven by here 100 times and never knew this gem was here. If you want linen napkins this is not for you but if you want exceptional food served hot in generous portions and at reasonable prices give Mom's a try. read more

Great little local place. Both the waiter and cook were very friendly and fun. The locals eating were also friendly, offering places to go and see as this was our first trip to Coos Bay (North Bend). I now have a problem, I'm torn between the best biscuits and gravy at Zig Zag Inn, which were my favorite until I ate here at Mom's Kitchen. The good thing is Zig Zag Inn is on Mount Hood. So when on the mountain I'll still go there. When on the coast I'll be sure to make it to Mom's Kitchen for the great Biscuits & Gravy! This was by far one of my favorite breakfast meals I ordered 2 strawberry pancakes with a side of stuffed hash browns... wow The food was still steaming hot and the pancakes melted in your mouth. Delicious and cheap food. The room is a little small but we didn't need to wait. (We were there on weekends) I love their omelettes!!! The hot roasted beef sandwich is also good and filled me up! Gravy is wrong though. My husband is from the south so he is particular about the gravy. That's the only reason we give it 4 stars. read more

If you are traveling and want an authentic, local experience, go to moms kitchen. The atmosphere is like being at a family members house and the staff is friendly. If you're in a rush or want something fancy, go elsewhere. However, I recommend taking the time and eating here. And remember to relax a little, you're at Mom's. (Side note- if you were traveling through and had a bad experience at moms, please don't muddy up their reviews. This place was such a sweet morning stop for us. The restaurant was so quaint and really looked like a family kitchen! The food is simple,hearty, and delicious! I ordered a ham cheese and onion omelet which came also with toast and a pancake. Super good. Riley got a little French toast combo and said the bacon was "SOOOOO GOOOD" and cooked perfectly! The French toast had a nice outer crisp and the meal was just the right size served with an egg also (yay, OJ with no pulp). My dad got a breakfast burrito and gave the thumbs up. The food is good,yes, but the best part of my experience was the service and atmosphere of the restaurant. There was one cook and one server both the sweetest people. They were very kind and helpful. They knew many of the people by name and I remember there was a family in the restaurant and the cook said "I've been cooking for them since they were babies and now they have their own babies!" It was just such a warm and welcoming place with good food and I would definitely recommend it! read more

Nothing compares! Blueberry pancakes with berries picked by a local who was sitting a table down from me enjoying breakfast with the owner. This is the real deal! Highly recommend the blueberry pancakes and I also ordered the corn beef hash which was so fresh and also -- HUGE! Staff seems to be mostly family -- and the spot is simply adorable. My neighbors were enjoying lunch so their meals looked delectable and also HUGE. HIGHLY recommend for super tasty dishes, awesome down home local flavor, and crazy value! read more

This place had good food for breakfast. That was the good part of the experience. The bad parts frustrated me and made me very hesitant about coming back. 1st there were these loud mouth guys , group of 3 using foul language and eating thier food all sloppily, talking with thier mouth full , (seemed like they were on drugs or something) they werso so annoying I just wanted them out of there. Everyone else was quiet and respectful of others. 2nd the cook rude to the waitress about how the slips were written and other small things that were not a big deal, but he made them so. So after not being able to go out and eat I went there Monday morning April 12th and was kind of sorry I did, after all the great reviews and recommendations. read more

Disappointing customer service. We tried to go here for breakfast and were put on a waitlist which was fine. After waiting 15 minutes (which wasn't bad) we received a call from the kitchen. We initially missed the call by a couple of seconds (the time stamp on the phone still read as 'now') so we called right back. They answered and asked where we were to which we replied right outside because that's where we were waiting, but then they said that they already given the table away anyway (literally after mere seconds had elapsed). We walked inside after being hung-up on when asking how much longer the wait would be and not receiving an answer until we went inside - 20 minutes. If the table was so immediately ready then why weren't we told sooner, or given an actual chance to get to it instead of being snaked in line (most restaurants give people at least minute to respond instead of giving tables away). Pretty annoying when you're right there and have been waiting; especially when the workers are pretty unapologetic about it. I imagine the food is probably better than the way they run the waitlist, but I can't attest to it. read more

Been here for breakfast several times, have not tried it for lunch yet. With nearly twice as many counter stools as table seats, breakfast caters to mostly locals with an excellent diner breakfast and the best hash browns in the business. The potatoes are cooked 24 hours in advance, cooled and refrigerated overnight, then shredded the next morning and cooked fresh on the flattop. The hash browns are also available stuffed a couple ways. Try eggs or the gravy on top for true decadence. Weekends have a full staff while early weekdays, it seems to be just Mom (and sometimes Pop). The omelets are on the big side and I really want room for the hash browns, so I have to bring a big appetite for those. And it is a challenge to get past halfway drinking my coffee before it gets refilled, not that I wouldn't just fill it myself. Don't blink or you might miss it. It's on the corner without any real signage and the parking can sometimes be a challenge. This is the small, local diner that you are lucky to find in a small town. It's not for the pretentious -- be prepared to interact with real live people. The fifth star is for the experience that sweetens the food. read more

When my wife and I stayed at the Itty Bitty Inn motel in North Bend, the motel manager recommended Mom's Kitchen, a block away, for breakfast. Well, we ate at Mom's Kitchen two of our three mornings in the Coos Bay area because we enjoyed it so much, and we would have gone back even if we had to drive a few miles to get there. Mom's Kitchen is a small diner with an equal number of counter seats and tables. The cook and food servers appear to know most of the customers -- a mixture of local folks, workers and truck drivers. The atmosphere is friendly, with lots of lively chatter and laughter. When I requested a couple of pancakes, the food server encouraged me to order only one, explaining that they're big -- and that was good advice. The pancake was as delicious as it was huge. My wife enjoyed her eggs and muffin, and the French toast she had the second day was tasty as well. Plan on arriving early. Mom's Kitchen draws a crowd. read more

What a gem! We were on our way back from a road trip and found this diner on the Oregon coast highway. It had such a good old-school mom and pop shop feel to it. I love it. The staff was extremely friendly and treated you like family. The food was fresh, delicious, and homemade and it's so inexpensive for the quality and portion that you get. I ordered the corn beef hash and it's made just the way I like it. The hashbrown that came with it was very good. My partner ordered the Monte Cristo and it was huge and delicious. The coffee was decent. I would highly recommend this place. read more
