Don't judge a book by its covers. The old adage applies very well to this restaurant. Its location is tucked inside the Fox Run Shopping center. However, it serves perhaps the most authentic Chinese cuisine south of Newark and Wilmington. Owners/Management been changed a few times over the past years. But current owners still maintained a staple of authentic Chinese entrees. You can still find the more common American Chinese dishes like General Tso's Chicken, Orange Beef, and other on the menu though. There are some advantages of dining in, since the food always tastes better fresh from the kitchen instead of take out. However, tables and seating are limited, and offer no atmosphere for dining in. This shows as most of its business is from take out. So if you're in Delaware, and don't want to travel up to Philly Chinatown for authentic Chinese cuisine, you may want to sample some of the authentic entrees here. read more

Used to be better. Ownership changed hands. Not really sure how they did it, but I ordered sesame chicken and it had practically no flavor.

Vegetable rolls were too dark (over fried) and very very very greasy. The whole bag was filled with grease and they had zero flavor. Don't ever order these!!! Nice casual Chinese restaurant that seems to generate a lot of takeout business, but dine-in was pretty good (hot tea and good rice included). Seems to capture the authentic flavors that folks like my parents look for. Salt and pepper pork chops and beef scallion pancakes were great. Pancakes were crispy on the outside with the perfect amount of filling inside. Pork chops came in a large serving and tasted great. Would order again but am interested in ordering similar dishes too. I'm neutral on the fish filet with preserved cabbage and the beef chow fun. The fish dish definitely conveyed the taste of preserved cabbage but the fish was a little too salty. My wife and I ordered some take out from them and it was so so. So we went back to try them dining in. Food was definitely better eating there. I ordered the squid with salty cabbage. My wife ordered the spicy fish filet. Both lunch specials. Came with soup and white rice on the side. My hot and sour soup was blend, a bit much on the sesame oil. My wife's wonton soup is alo on the blend side. The main dishes tasted good, a bit on the heavy side to us but that's Sichuan style cooking. The service was good. The place reminded me of typical old style Chinese restaurants. Update: 11/18: Went back today for lunch again. My wife ordered the twice cooked fish and I ordered the beef chow fun. My wife's dish was good but the beef in my dish was not very fresh. I told them and they handled it well. In exchange, I ordered the shredded port with bamboo straps. That was delicious. Just NO. Ordered takeout - lg soup, 2 meals, two fried rice. Specifically asked when I called AND when I picked up - for crunchy noodles to put in soup. There were none - as well as no fortune cookies. Opened the fried rice and it STUNK and was SOUR. Called in - two staff argued with me - got hung up on twice - finally got a manager and demanded a full refund. Packed up food and drove back - got a full refund and was told that the "person who made the fried rice was no longer there today." I had never asked for the cook - just a refund. I think I have a new favorite Chinese restaurant and it's Mom's Kitchen. I'm a stickler for authenticity in cuisines. I understand that restaurants have to scale back on some ingredients to make it more palatable to the American diners. One look at the specialty menu will tell you this restaurant is willing to cater to those who value the flavors and culture represented. I ordered dry pot wild mountain mushrooms and was quite pleased. A generous serving of 4 different mushrooms, pork belly in a spicy sauce came to the table in a metal bowl over a sterno flame. It contained lots of slices of King mushroom which I don't recall having before. They were meaty and almost crunchy. It had a generous amount of dried chili peppers BUT the Szechuan peppercorns were almost nonexistent. I may have seen 3. A very enjoyable discussion ensued with the Chinese owner about these peppercorns. She even brought out a huge bag of the dried chili peppers. I said the peppercorns make a tingling on your tongue which she didn't understand. But eventually we had a laugh when she looked it up and came up with "numb tongue". Now we understood each other and she said next time she would add more for me. She explained that most customers don't want it. My friend had an eggplant and string bean dish which was very tasty and a generous serving. Mom's is about 30 minutes from my home but I'll be back. It's definitely worth the drive. Give it a try ...if you dare. Oh, it's not a particularly attractive restaurant by any means but that doesn't bother me. It looks like any other chinese shop but man this place is right out of china town in philly. Very authentic chinese unlike the 15 panda express around here. We ordered chicken and broccoli, Taiwan Style Pan Fried Dumplings, and Singapore Vermicelli Stir Fried. The dumplings were great and we love the seasoned soy sauce that comes with it. My chicken with broccoli was very fresh! I did not try the Stir Fried rice noodles but my boyfriend said it was quite spicy and he liked it. The ratio of meat to pancake was excellent and the flavor was phenomenal! The only downsides were the service and the pork to bun ratio. Service, I hate to be the one to say this but they didn't speak English very well and it was hard to communicate (not that a lot was required). They forgot to give my card back so I asked multiple times and they were confused and kept repeating what I was saying and finally I pointed and it was clear. I also called them back to let them know we received their voicemail and that we were on the way to pick up and they couldn't understand what I was saying... I wanted to try this place out for a while now and so glad I did! I got the braised beef noodle soup and then an order of the fried dumplings. I thought the dumplings pretty pricey for what they were. There are 12 pieces of pretty small dumplings. I also did not like the sauce that came with it (made with more vinegar than soy sauce it seems like). Regardless of appearances the dumplings did have good flavors though ! The beef noodle soup you get a lot for 10$ a huge tub of noodles, beef/veggies and broth. The broth taste pretty good, noodles we're a good consistently and the beef was very tender which is absolutely delicious ! Love the soup and how much you get. My pancakes were so fluffy and the combination of the sausage, egg and cheese in one entree was genius. When I ordered it, I did not believe that I was going 2 enjoy it so much. Yet, I did enjoy it...I gave this place four stars because an unexpected, non-paying guest showed up. I want to start by saying this is not only the best tasting Asian cuisine in the area, but it is some of the best food I've had in Newark (probably the best). I went last week to get Singapore Mei Fun and shrimp dumplings. Both were delicious and plentiful. However, when I returned this week, I was dismayed to see that two front of house employees (one cashier, one packing food- rice) had their masks pulled below their chins. I peeped into the closed kitchen out of curiosity, and I saw one cook wearing a mask and another cook without a mask. With 3,000+ new cases a day and with a sign on the front door mandating that customers were masks, I found this disappointing and unacceptable. In sum: great food, poor Covid precautions. read more

Various interesting and unusual dishes featuring things like heart, kidney, etc. Was having lunch by myself so I couldn't order a lot, ended up doing the sichuan heart tissue stew and it was delicious. It came in a good serving size with flavorful and numbing broth, good combo of veggies (chinese bok choi and bean sprouts) and protein. The staff seems friendly and the food was excellent. I ordered the pork and leek dumplings which were really tasty and felt fresh and high quality. The sauce was basically in the dumplings and was really fantastic. I also got the braised pork belly steamed buns and they were absolutely delicious. The pork belly was basically perfect and the relish/chutney in the bun perfectly balance the sweet bun and the fresh cilantro was a great touch. The shrimp curry I got was the best Chinese curry I think I've had. The peppers in it were wonderfully flavorful with a perfect amount of spice and the sauce wasn't too weak or too much. First, this is a more traditional (not US style) restaurant. You may see dishes you do not expect like frog in garlic. Regardless of how varied your tastes are, the food is excellent. This place is really good! Rightly its called Mom's kitchen since the cooking style was so homely. I ordered the small steamed buns, corn flour porridge and steamed dumplings. The corn flour porridge was nice.. it was a good consistency. I was missing some salt but that might be just me. I really liked their steamed buns a lot. I thought they were bigger than what i was expecting reading the word 'small' in their name on the menu.. not that im complaining, lol! The stea med dumpling was soooo good! Just like they make at home. Fresh, soft dumplings with tender meat.. I used to plan trips to Philly chinatown to have dumpling earlier. I am so happy i found this gem so close to home! Must go back to try Chef's Special CS1 - Frog w/ Spicy Chili Pepper (fix your face). You hear Mom speaking in their language, then you hear the cooking start. Then you catch the smell of fresh veggies and the sauce. Now you hear the sizzle.....the server comes out, the platter is covered, the server motions one minute (don't touch). Just hear that sizzle, see the steam. He comes back with a bowl of piping hot rice and a fork (really). Pay attention...he removes the cover and the smell. Inhale relish in the freshness of the dish and you exhale, mouth watering. Taste - OMG!! The beef melts in your mouth, so tender. The veggies are crunchy (which I love). You wait between bites because you want it to last. The dish has a little hint of spice. Whether you use the fork or the chopsticks you will enjoy this dish. Recommend your date get their own.
