The food at Golden Palace is very good! I've tasted my fair share of Chinese food and you can tell that theirs is made with a nice balance of salty, sweet, sour and umami. The pork dumplings had the right amount of filling, great texture to the wrapper, and were perfectly steamed. The dipping sauce was delicious. The brown sauce for the chicken and broccoli dish was excellent. Most times it's the sauces that make or break a Chinese place. Golden Palace has mastered their sauces, hands down! The lo mein had good flavor with well-cooked noodles and the General Tso's chicken had the perfect kick to it. I plan on being a regular customer at this place. Golden Palace is a little gem among a plethora of Chinese restaurants in our area. They have most of the usual Americanized Chinese foods, but they do it very well. Their portions are always generous (overflowing Sweet and Sour chicken container). The spring rolls are good, the white rice is good. I tried the Singapore Mai Fun and it was awesome, though not as spicy as I would have expected. The wonton soup is good and wontons appear to be handmade. The dumplings are pretty standard fare. The fried rice is very good. The quality has been consistent and the service is always friendly. We switched from No. 1, to Red Bowl, finally to Golden Palace as our go-to Chinese restaurant. My daughter doesn't like the fried rice (too many veggies, she says), so more for the rest of us. The Chinese mustard is hot. They are currently offering only takeout (and that is all we have ever done). If you want more authentic Chinese food, you can try Chef Tan in downtown Newark, but Golden Palace fits the bill for the rest of us. read more

Seriously the best brown and best white sauces I've ever had! Fresh ingredients and the best place to go if you want that real and authentic Chinese food. We have been getting take out from here for years. There food is no where near what it was. The Cashew Chicken was 80% celery with maybe 5 small pieces of chicken and like 5 cashews in the center. The pork fried rice had maybe 2 tiny pieces of pork and 1 piece of egg. I would rather pay more and get good food, if I want celery and rice I will stay home. read more

Ordering experience was seamless as the woman taking my order speaks English clearly. The no contact pick up option is a blessing in our Covid times. But that is where the good news ends.... The cost for one small wonton soup, one small vegetable fried rice and one small shrimp/broccoli was a whopping $15.65. I would not have minded this so much if the food tasted fresh and good. I was visiting the area and looking for a nice place to get Chinese food and found this with excellent reviews! Considering how much people raved about it I'm left a little disappointed. I ordered to go and got their lunch special pepper steak with fried rice and hot and sour soup. The special is reasonably priced with a decent portion of food. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot of meat in proportion to the peppers and onions and other veggies and the steak was an odd chewy texture. Flavor was alright. The soup was not your typical hot and sour soup and it tasted strange to me as well as had a lot of extra ingredients that created a weird texture. Just all in all not what I was expecting. They were punctual with the food and I had no problems with picking up. The inside of the restaurant on first glance was tacky to me. I think I just discovered my favorite place for Chinese take out! Saw the reviews and thought I would give it a try. I was not disappointed. In fact, very pleased! The fried pork dumplings were perfect to my taste. Dumpling dough was not overly thick as in some other take out places. Fried crispy on one side. Plenty of well seasoned pork meat inside. Dipping sauce had excellent spices and flavor. Finally, a place that makes fried rice that includes egg, peas, and carrots. Most other places use a yellow rice with just onion and sprouts. I had the fried rice with the chicken and broccoli combo plate. Delicious! The egg roll that came with the combo plate was also very good. The outside was crispy and a slight crunch to the cabbage inside. Too often other Chinese take out places over fry them and tend to be burnt and or saturated with frying oil. This was not. This place is a little out of the way for me, but it was well worth the trip. I am looking forward to return and try some of their other dishes. I hope they continue to impress. read more

I was disappointed, On entering the restaurant it had a greasy smell which was not very appetizing. I ordered Moo Sho Pork. The portion was large but didn't contain much pork. Only two crepes which was enough for the portion size. The amount of plum sauce was small. The food was tasty but very greasy. Average Chinese food. read more

Was looking for food and I noticed that golden palace had a above average score for chinese restaurants. 4 1/2, also checked there prices were a little bit higher then average to. When I saw that I was getting excited thinking this place was going to be better then the typical chinese restaurant norm. Unfortunately it falls into average along with the other chinese restaurants in the area. Every chicken and broccoli in the Delaware area tastes identical I cant seem to find one that's different. My extended family and I visited here on the last day of our trip to Delaware for Christmas break. The food was good and enjoyed by all. I found the sauces a bit sugary (American) for my tastes but it was still good. Also, while the General Tso's chicken was tasty, it certainly wasn't spicy but to each his own. We were the only people there at 2:30pm for a late lunch. I suspect they do a decent take out business but they have ample room in the dining area as well. They also offer free WiFi, though I didn't try it myself. The place has been there for years and it was one of my late father-in-law's favorites. I've been meaning to try the food at Golden Palace for some time. I decided on this very rainy day to go for the first time and order a simple lunch to check out their food. Now grant it, having only had one meal to date, I'm in no position to provide an broader assessment, which would include the very important rating regarding the consistency of the chef(s) executing the dish. Do they make the dish each time following the recipe closely or can the dish vary from chef to chef? (for me truly the kiss of death for a restaurant is when you can't count on getting your favorite dish cooked the same every time) however here is what I came away with. Pros, I was seated right away, the dining room looked neat and clean as was my table and utensils. The waitress was very nice and took my lunch order right away. I ordered a bowl of won ton soup which was very good. The broth was excellent and the won tons were firm with a good chew, not mushy (hate over cooked mushy won tons). Oh and the fried noodles that come with the duck sauce were fresh. So many times at different places I've been they are served to you and they are stale. The main course was pepper steak with fried rice. Both were very good. Portions were a nice size for lunch. The pepper steak was by no means the best I've ever had however on a scale of 1 to 5 with five being the best I would give it a respectable 4. The meat was nice and thin, tender and perfectly cooked, as were the peppers (not too hard or too soft). The brown sauce was plentiful and had a nice tangy flavor. I ordered it without onions which would have normally been part of the dish. Like wise the fried rice was also seasoned and cooked nicely. Cons I ordered a diet coke and I was handed a glass of ice with a can of soda. For a sit down restaurant that seemed odd to me but not a big deal. The soy sauce bottle on my table was dusty and sticky. It was obvious it hadn't been wiped off in some time. It may be isolated incident and I will check the next time I go. Overall I enjoyed the meal and I would definitely go back for another, this time with my wife read more

Will return to try other items when in toen next. Atmosphere is sit-down, but very casual. I randomly searched on yelp for Chinese food. Golden Place has a rating of 4 1/2 stars out of 5. The bag was heavy compared to the weight I usually get at other takeouts. Ordering the same thing. I was shocked at the size of my shrimp in shrimp lo mein my Dad loves beef fried rice. The last time I got it for him he complained there was no beef, from another take out. But Golden Palace was packed with large size beef and veggies. He was saying yum the whole time he was eating. I gave it a 5 b/c I never enjoyed Chinese food so well prepared. We ate here two months ago, and I still feel nauseated every time I remember the meal. The people at work refer to this place as "Golden Shower" because it's that bad. I wish I'd known about that nickname before eating here. I'm guessing that these reviews are from people close to the owners, because I don't understand how such bad food can get such good reviews. We ate in instead of picking it up, and it was a very strange experience. The place was dead, the decor was strange, the cleanliness was meh, the service was poor, the food was greasy and flavorless. I expect a bit of grease with Chinese food, but the flavor usually makes up for it. In this case, it didn't even come close. We both felt sick after eating there. Avoid. read more

Best Chinese food in New Castle County. Only local place I've been able to find that makes scallion cakes (I do wish they'd add more scallions to the batter but they are still delicious!). The employees are always super sweet and very efficient. When I lived closer I'd order much more often and they always remembered me and my order. read more
