(don't complain about business, if you don't want my money!) Anyway, when I saw this website I decided to give them a try. I was ever so happy I did! I was able to order online, make a few alterations, and delivery came quick. All good! I ordered TVP General Tso's "chicken" and it was better than expected. The noodle and rice dishes I ordered came as I ordered them and were also very very good. When I placed the order, the email message said delivery would be the next day. China Garden was absolutely disappointing. We ordered a large portion of beef lo mein and the orange beef, and both were a complete letdown. The beef lo mein had maybe three tiny pieces of beef scattered throughout, and the orange beef was entirely batter--no meat at all. Seriously, it was all batter, no beef. Solid tasting Chinese food. Hot and sour soup had a nice kick of spice. The combination meals are a good value with pork fried rice, egg rolls and both the General Tao and sesame chicken had good portions of chicken cooked and seasoned perfectly. Great service fast tans got done early I would have taken a before picture had I not devoured the sweet and sour chicken and rice everything was just the way you would imagine it enough that there's a little leftover for when you get your second wind for midnight Chinese food after the store has been closed. Good choice for the standard Chinese take out - reasonably priced, rapid preparation. Order here and you can expect to receive familiarly seasoned dishes. We order a wide range of dishes, none disappointed. Hot and Sour soup was one of the best you can find in the region. Sal Po Beef Chef Special was best dish of all that we ordered. Biggest downside to this place is that vegetables come slightly overcooked, but some folks do prefer well done veg. Staff is friendly and ordering online is super easy via Yelp. I ordered the wonton soup and it tasted like water with salt mixed into it. My friend and I were pretty bummed. I ordered the lunch special which was such a great deal. The price is great that's the reason I gave this place two stars despite the horrible food I received. I mean I live in an area where Chinese food is a huge demand. And thus more competition is developed within the city. Dc has a Chinatown and a pretty heavy Chinese food influence. This further drives the competition. And I know the competition is pretty intense in large cities. I also know that if you serve Chinese food like this in any major city, you would go out of business pretty quick. So with that said, I may not be the best judge on this Chinese restaurant in comparison to this area. Because the area in which this restaurant lies is pretty dead and not too many restaurants are nearby. But, this is by far less tasty than Panda Express and that actually says a lot. read more

3 stars is not a bad thing for a no frills takeout. The food is solid Chinese takeout. I loved that they had cold sesame noodles! Nothing on the menu spoke of traditional "real" Chinese like a couple of the restaurants nearby market, but this is takeout for Americans; so it works. So food wise it fits the bill. Now let's talk location. It's the closest Chinese takeout near the "hotel" section on S. College Ave. So for me that's "winner winner chicken dinner" (not to be confused with the Boston Rotisserie across the street). I walked to it just for a little exercise. It is not a scenic walk. That portion is highly traveled @ dinner time and loud. Plus the little strip mall it is in is tired. Don't anticipate a lovely stroll on your way (but hey it is still physical activity). The service was perfectly fine. Courteous, efficient, quick, and helpful. It was not hectic and there were other folks picking up takeout as well who seemed like regulars; that is always a good sign. So all in all-when I'm there again and need an easy Chinese takeout fix I will go there easily enough. I will try some of the area Chinese restaurants highlighting more traditional foods, but not for quick takeout. I am glad it's there. read more

China Garden is my go-to for fast service American style Chinese food. I order from them on average every other week. My general orders are a soup, appetizer and meal dish. All the apps are well made, anything friend from here is spot on with the crispness. The soups are what you would expect from a take out place. Every meal dish has been ranging from decent to delicious depending on what it is specifically. That being said there's something left to be desired from the food quality but this is not a 5star restraunt, it's a take-out joint. Their delivery however is THE FASTEST in all of Newark. Food is delivered 10-12 minutes before the estimated delivery every time, the price point is spot on for the food quality and the staff and delivery drivers are quite friendly. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for something decent, priced well and delivered FAST. read more

I've been ordering from China Garden for over 18 years. I grew up in New York and had a hard time finding a Chinese restaurant I liked, so I was happy to find this place. I average about 5 home deliveries per month, for myself and up to 3 others (depending upon whether or not my children are with me). I am an EXCELLENT customer (and I tip pretty well, too). However, I am extremely disappointed with the (lack of) service I received tonight. I just tried placing an order for myself only. The total came to $14.25. I was told that the minimum for ordering was $14.50 and was asked to add another item. I'm not joking. I have been a repeat, loyal customer for almost 2 decades and they refused to deliver to me because of a QUARTER?! This is a horrible business decision. When I said that rather than add an item I would prefer to cancel the order and get pizza, I was told, "Okay, have a good night." And then they hung up. BIG mistake! Not only will I order from someplace else tonight, but I will begin my search anew for a Chinese food restaurant. I refuse to give my money to a place with such poor treatment of long-time customers. read more

Love this place! Best generals chicken just the right amount of spice and it is crisped to perfection! I hate when fried rice tastes dry at other places. This places rice is top notch! The pork fried rice is a nice golden brown and it has just the right amount of moisture. I also love their wonton soup, because it has so much flavor and never tastes watery. Ordered take out from here and when the delivery man came to my door, he instructed me that if I took any longer to answer it he would have found a way to break in. When I told him that made me uncomfortable, he began an extremely aggressive altercation with me. When the situation diffused and he left, he proceeded to text me, calling me retarded, pathetic, and asking how stupid I was to "talk sh*t and still leave a tip." When I reported this incident to China Garden, they were of no help whatsoever and proceeded to ask me what part of my order was incorrect that was making me unhappy. I dug into the fried dumplings first. They were plump and fried just right, with a good meaty taste, and Good Sized. The Phoenix had spicy big shrimp and the general tsao - fresh and hot white and dark meat chicken. Was impressed with qty and quality of their food and speedy delivery. Everything was hot and fresh. Quite honestly - the freshest tasting Chinese food I have had in a LONG time. I ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken, and the chicken breading wasn't soggy at all - even after being delivered (and being packed up for a few minutes at least) it still had a crisp breading and the Vegetable Fried Rice I got was great as well. The egg roll was great as well - not dripping with grease. The food overall was very good, though I must admit I have only gotten Chinese food at one other location in Newark, DE but this is definitely my go to now for Chinese! TOXIC. My egg rolls smells like nail polish remover and my dumplings were terrible. I physically could not finish either. Fake food. Like many cheap take-outs, they don't actually fry the fried rice. They use yellow-dyed rice and pass it off as "fried" because they think Americans are too stupid to know the difference. The dish is tasteless and it's dishonest business. Do not eat here. read more

This place has the worst customer service I've seen in a long time! Ordered food for delivery, hour and a half later the food still hadn't arrived. I called to inquire about my order and they informed me that they forgot about it. I tried to cancel my order which I had already paid for online and the manager said that he couldn't stop my payment or refund me. So I had them fill my order and deliver it anyway. I was offered no apology nor any compensation. When the delivery guy finally shows up he asks for the money I had already payed online!! Never again. Oh, and my soup had hair in it. :( read more
