This was my first big alteration ever, and I'm officially hooked. Usually if something's too long I'll just safety pin it myself... but this time the outfit I ordered wasn't just long, it was loose in the legs! (Not very sexy for a bachelorette in Cancun less than 6 days away...) How do I fix that?! Maybe with 200 safety pins... So I don't even know what the heck this type of alteration is called, but I figured it would cost a fortune. I asked around if anyone's (real) moms could do it, but none of them had the proper machinery. I finally threw in the towel and came to (the place) Mom's, and MAN had I been wasting time not coming here sooner! The alteration only cost $17 and they had it done in 3 days! "ONLY $17?! Vini, that's a lot!". Yes, I admit $17 is almost the same price as the outfit itself, and I don't even know if that's more or less expensive compared to other places... BUT having it fit perfectly and just in time for my trip justified EVERY penny (I actually imagined a non-hem-alteration to be like $40 anyways). Plus, I don't have 200 safety pins. I'd recommend bringing either a Vietnamese friend to translate or a similar item from your closet to show what you want (they don't really know English, or maybe know just enough). I had less than 6 days til departure so I couldn't take any risks... I tried to use as many simplified "MAKE SHORT", "TOO LONG", "TOO LOOSE", "MORE TIGHT", "LOOK LIKE THIS PICTURE" 's as possible. True story I sat in my car afterwards for 15 minutes debating on whether or not they understood me before I ran back in with a googled image to make sure they FOR SURE knew what I wanted. Anyways, (The) "Mom" was really nice and the sweet old Viet ladies there are so cute... like a little band of Asian grandmas attempting to make your clothes fit. I'm super happy with my alteration. I went here based on a recommendation from one of my friends and boy is this the place to be! Everyone and their mom was here a few Monday's ago and it looks like this is the hot spot for beauty queen alterations. You'll find a wall plastered with beauty queens and wannabe's complete with autographs and big goofy grins. Be prepared to wait as they are very busy and nearby UTA campus. Mom had me try on my suit pants and went away pinning the hem. 2 days later, I come back for my pants at the time promised and $5.50 poorer, I am one excited girl! You always get a little nervous with people touching your expensive clothes and I am so glad I gave this place a shot. I took a jacket there to get tailored Wednesday morning. The jacket itself fits well but the sleeves were too big. Mom pinned the excess fabric and said that it would be best to get the sleeves tapered. The pick up date was to be next week (next Wednesday). Next week rolls around, and I drop by Mom's around 5pm. The gentlemen working the counter could not find my jacket (I had the claim stub). After a few minutes, they found it but it was still in its original form. Mom comes up to me and says "Do you need it done by today?". I told her "Yes". It's been a week! She then tells me that she will work on it. I sit there for 45 minutes while they worked on my jacket. Okay, let me say i chose to come to Mom's because of the great reviews on yelp. I took a pair of joes jeans to get himed and fitted. When i picked the jeans up the first time, they clearly had not been fitted, so i had to leave them with them again to fix what they didnt fix the first time... So i go back a few days later, trusting they fixed them...got home.. and they were still too baggy. One leg fit fine, the other was a mess. so i'll be going back again today to ask them to fix them for the 3rd time! the only positive experience i had at this place was the somewhat friendly staff. read more

My pants are too big now. Just like in the first review, it's not a quick process, but I have three pairs of pants that fit better now than they did new for less money than the other alteration people wanted. Each pair got waist, legs, and hemmed. All have held up through several weeks work and some dry cleaning. The patch from my original review is still strong. I was a bit iffy about trying out Mom's Alterations since the reviews were mixed (like hit or miss). I had some pants that needed hemming and Mom's quoted me $7.00/pair, which is one of the better prices in the area. Despite the words on the door and the business card saying "pants hemmed while you wait," I was told that they would be ready in 5 days, after 4 PM. Tried them on after I got home and they appeared hemmed to the right length. For the price, I'd return to get additional pants hemmed if needed. read more

Took my daughter's wedding dresses to Mom's for alterations, because we were told they do a great job. My daughter and I asked multiple times if they were going to be able to do the necessary alterations, because my daughter was worried her dream dress wouldn't be right. The lady assured us they could do what was needed with no problem. When we went back to pick up her dress, it was not correct at all. There were holes in the side of her dress where they didn't sew it correctly. The seam going up the arms was crooked. She couldn't cross her arms across her chest because it was way to tight. While my daughter is standing there in tears, I asked if the issues could be fixed and was told no. To make matters worse they had the nerve to charge me for the crappy alterations they did. I was speechless... I would highly recommend NOT taking your wedding dress to Moms for alterations. read more

After all the 5 star reviews I had my daughter's dress altered here that was a mistake. It only needed to be taken in 1 inch at the top so it would stay up ( it's strapless). We picked it up yesterday hours before she needed it and they had taken it in about 3 inches down the whole bodice so we couldn't zip it up she was devastated. So she had to wear a non-formal dress to the event and I have a $150 dress nobody can wear. Don"t go here for formal wear alterations you will be wasting money! read more

The tailor I used for 30 years retired. Then I lost a lot of weight and went from a 46" waist to a 38" waist. In replacing some of my wardrobe I made some errors and had to have a shirt (sleeve shortened) altered and a couple pair of pants and a couple of suits (pants and coat) altered that I already had.. All work was superior and ready when they said. I don't have much to compare the prices to, but it seemed to be very reasonable priced - especially for the quality of the work. I took my daughters dance costumer here to be altered, we agreed to take in the waist. When I showed up a week later at the agreed upon delivery fate they had added elastic to the waist and w white thread that complete interrupted the design. I was shocked and even more disappointed that there was no apology for doing something that wasn't agreed upon. They offered to try and fix it but after losing trust in what they were going to do I decided to bring it home and find someone else to do the job. I just needed like 4 inches off my dress and some hooks sewen back on and just a few little things. Mom and her team are very nice and friendly. However, patience is a MUST. Come in on a Saturday and you're definitely in for a wait. The waiting area is small and there's only four chairs, but she's the best so it's worth it. I live in DeSoto now and I still make the trips over here because I know she knows what she's doing and I've had enough experiences going to other places only to have my pants too short and the bill too high! I started coming here about 5-6 years ago. My sister is a professional bridesmaid and only brings her dresses here. Now I only bring my clothes here. Usually just jeans that need hemming or some shirts that need taking in. Their prices are so reasonable that if I find clothes at the mall that are not in stock in my size, I'll buy the next size up and bring it to Mom's to take in! I made it a point to have my bridemaids' dresses altered here, and as soon as my gown comes in I am definitely bringing it to Mom's! They can usually work with your schedule and have it done in a reasonable time, but around prom season the dates stretch a little further apart, so if I need something done by a certain day I tell them I need it a few days before that. read more
