According to a close friend, Safran Austin located on Far West Boulevard, is especially known for being the first in Austin to feature a dedicated Nepalese menu I was not very hungry so I ordered the Chicken 65 (spicy deep-fried chicken with tomatoes, curry leaves, and ginger) ...a South Indian specialty. The chicken nuggets were doused in a flavorful curry seasoned and they were super moist and fresh tasting. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. My server, Dipka, was kind and helpful. She offered me water to go as it was pretty hot outside...nice touxh. There are a plethora of vegetarian, vegan, and halal offerings. Looking forward to returning and exploring more menu items...

But in my recent trip to Austin, I found these amazing Momos The stuffing was exactly as we like back in Delhi- the perfect balance of flavors and the satisfying texture. I loved this place. I want to still love this place. It is unreliable AF though. Between the hours…read morechanging and the consistently unavailable food and the different menus vis different platforms this is a sinking ship. When you get food- it's 99.99% good- we've had only 2 food issues before- bad batch of momos with some filling produce being off and again with some cilantro being rotten and still used (highly sensitive sensory person I can smell rotten produce from parking lots before going into a market). That sucks and it ruined our meals but when the food IS good it's that good so it's literally the only place I've ever forgiven and returned to. The actual issues we constantly have is that we place orders only for them to be cancelled because they can't even fulfill them and often not even being told until we arrive and more often then not the item was completely unavailable but still order-able. Their main webpage now offers other food we haven't even seen at the truck but you can't order their basic fried momos and the Jhol is the worst because it's like crack and epic AF and yet always out! The hours have changed so often that every ordering platform including yelp can't keep up which makes it nearly impossible to plan for and by the time we can safely find them open once again everything is out or just not even able to order everything we want via one platform. The dude is super nice and we appreciate that but we can't support a business that can't even be stable with consistency for us to even access them- and this is a splurge for us so we do end up having to be economical and order the frozen bulk which has been super great- IF we can get them. And the most recent awful change also relating to hours is how little they are now open! Currently showing Thursday to Sunday and now only 5-10pm and even as I write this the only platforms that have the full offerings of the food we want (the v momos fried and jhol) won't even allow us to order saying they are actually closed. Sigh. Please for the love of the only good momos in all of Austin or TX apparently PLEASE STOP BEING SO INACCURATE AND INACCESSIBLE AND INCONVENIENTLY INCONSISTENT! I love you I want to give you your 5 stars and I'm trying to give you the little fn money we have and support you guys! If you can't handle the business pls just post ur jhol recipe because the ones from the web suck- or just admit you are drugging us and that's why it's so addicting. Do better.

The food truck was small and did have ample seating with other food trucks. There were no clear indication on the prices and spice level nor were we informed or asked about the spice level My order: Veg Momo Chilli Momo The Chilli Momo (as the name suggested) was extremely spicy , at the dangerous level, so they should have let us know. I did love the dish other than the spice levels! the side sauces were spicy too. Having a veg momo on the other hand was making me feel better. I might have to go prepared the next time and ask more probing questions. It is not nice to not display the price along with the menu. You will be only loosing customers with this kind of experience!

We came as a group of 5 during a soccer match and had no trouble getting seated- they did have the game playing on a large tv at the back but didn't bother us. The staff was very friendly, happy to answer questions, and also was careful to let us know when we were ordering crazier dishes but didn't push back when we said yeah we want to try it XD I forgot to write this review right away and I can't remember exactly what combo of fillings we got with our momos, but they were all great. The chilly sauce one was good though on the sweet side- some of the group weren't a big fan but I loved it I think the spice balances out the sweet. If we didn't have multiple flavors to try I may have gotten tired of it but I really enjoyed having all the different versions. I think the Jhol was my favorite- the spicy sauce was delicous and I dipped some of the other items in it once we finished the momos! We also tried the sandheko ones which were fun and unique- the herbs/veggies they were tossed with were great. We also tried the special khaja set- this was super fun and something I had never tried before. We all agreed that most restaurants in Austin advertising Nepali food usually serve typical Indian dishes plus momos, so it was fun and exciting to have other Nepali dishes I had never tried on the menu! The set was great, the flattened rice wasn't my favorite but it sure was interesting! I'd highly recommend it if you want to try something new! The only dish I personally didn't enjoy (this is the one the server warned us about) was a mutton dish. I can't pinpoint what menu item it is but it was just pieces of mutton with some spices to dip them in. My husband enjoyed this and ate a good portion but I found it to be so incredibly gamey I could barely finish the first piece lol. Absolutely no points off as it was definitely a personal preference thing and awesome that they have adventurous options! We also got a curry of some sort that was delicious, and some great mixed drinks. We all agreed that we absolutely must come back and try more of the massive menu!!
