Our son & his wife had been looking forward to introducing my husband and I to Momi's upon our arrival from NC...and what a TREAT for sure! Having been to and eaten in Israel twice, I was assured, upon ordering, by one of the employees that "our food is far better than 'theirs over there'". (I was certainly impressed by his undeniable confidence.) 3 of the 4 of us chose a lamb kabob that we needed to wait to be grilled. Once prepared, each of us were called to choose from overwhelming choices of fresh, colorful, and interesting sides individually piled high behind a glass barrier for sanitation. Each more tempting than the next, "Mustafa" (sp? owner?) came to my rescue, stating "we'll do this together!"--a very wise and simple solution. Checking with me before adding each spoonful, Mustafa built a mouth-watering meal of meat, rice, vegetables, tahini, seasoned/marinated delights, sauces and a wrapped slice of pita bread on the side. Inquiring about an orange beverage in a dispenser near the register, I was told it was fresh orange and carrot juice, made there, of course, which I now had no intention of passing up! And it was excellent! We took our table for 4 to begin our individual feasts. The entire dining room was clean & spacious with pleasant guitar music overhead. Although there were some others dining in, most were seemingly picking up online orders. It was puzzling as to how this establishment was not busier, unless their prices may be a bit steep for lunch. However, healthy food is worth the investment and I had more than enough to bring home half of my meal. We are certain that the next time we return to the area, Momi's Kitchen will top the list for a return visit. read more

Momi's Kitchen in Waldorf is worth every mile you drive and every dollar you spend--even the gas money, and that's saying a lot these days. Everything is fresh and locally sourced, which means your salad probably knew the farmer personally. When you walk in, it's got that old-school cafeteria vibe, but in a "this is comforting and not suspicious" way. The place is spacious, has plenty of seating, and is so clean you could eat off the floor--but don't, because the tables are just as clean and way more comfortable. The food? Oh, it's delicious. They'll give you a little spice if you want, and everything's made right in front of you, no shady "chef's special" mystery doors in the back. Once I placed we placed our order, they even provided additional recommendations once we told them our order. One thing they also did that I really liked was that they brought the kids food out first. It was a bit of a hike to get here, but it's totally worth it! Located off the beaten path of Waldorf, a street I've never even heard of, you find this standalone building, in a rather large parking lot. The signage makes it quite obvious what it is, with the festive banner and all. I parked and went on in. I can't help but wonder if it ever gets full -- there are plenty of tables, and the vibe gives giant cafeteria -- like with rails near the line and everything, haha. So I went up there to look at the menu and was greeted warmly by the staff. She told me to let her know if I had any questions. I decided to go with the shawarma platter. They have some shiny white plates if you decide to eat there, but I knew I'd be taking mine to go. I knew I was going to start eating there though, but a to-go tray was the move for the day. The menu says you get to choose your toppings, but they didn't ask what I wanted after I ordered, so I think I got chef's recommendation. After receiving my tray I went around the corner to get utensils and napkins. The chef's recommendation was the way to go. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful! The platter consisted of chicken, lamb, a bunch of veggies and sauces! I imagine if I wanted to customize I just had to say so. If you happen to be in the Waldorf neighborhood you have to stop by... If it's your first time the friendly staff will guide you through their excellent options. First time and will definitely be returning! Food is fresh and made to order. I'm surprised not alot more people come here, they are a hidden gem!!! Staff were very nice and patient. I got the chicken kabob fare which came with 2 skewers of chicken which was a lot! I believe it's $3 extra for another skewer. Make sure you have some time to sit and relax (read a good book, listen to a podcast, or chat with friends -that's what we did) because the restaurant is so new and the food is so fresh- that they cook the meat while you wait (~15mins depending)... It's not fast food, as Mustafa said but it is healthy food. Most of the ingredients are sourced only 1 day prior- aside from the pickles. It was so nice interacting with the staff and also knowing that I'm filling my body with healthy ingredients! The dishes are full of flavor and they use halal meat- if that peaks your interest! This is a hidden gem of Waldorf. Been here a few times and have never neen disappointed. First and foremost the service is awesome. Excellent and friendly customer service. The dining room is open and airy and had available seats which was good because we beat the rush. The kitchen was open for view like subway and chipotle so you are able to watch them grill and watch them plate the toppings on your plate. So i got the steak plate and it came with 5 toppings. I got a drink and chicken tenders because from what i was told they were very good. My food came and the guy serving me at the toppings portion of the kitchen was SOOOO NICE AND HELPFUL. I'm pretty sure he gave me like 5 plus more toppings than the regular 5 I got. He just was like "oh so this would be good with your steak, oh and a little bit of this oh and this one too you'll like it with your steak." At the end I couldn't see the bottom of my plate. So I had the chicken tenders first and I must say I understand why people were saying it was good! It didn't have that much flour and it was essentially fried naked and it was SOO FLAVORFUL and surprisingly juicy still! I don't remember what was in my plate I just know it was good haha and then I tried the steak and it was so cooked well! Tender and juicy and it was a decent size! Great spot for a fresh, tasty lunch packed with flavor. The inside is immaculately clean. Really liked that. I ordered a falafel platter. After ordering, I watched the chef scoop individual falafel balls out of a homemade mix and drop them into the fryer. You can actually see the entire kitchen from the ordering counter, which I always enjoy. The platters are build-your-own. I got some jasmine rice and hummus first. Then a bunch of the veggie toppings, including cabbage (both the white and red options), purple onions, tomatoes, cucumber, sautéed onion mix, and others. I also got red sauce and green sauce. I've been here probably over 20x. The staff is always great. However, the service is very slow. You would think if you purchased a bowl or wrap, it would be an in and out process. However, that's not the case at all. You order your food, wait in the seating area until your number is called and then you go up to tell them what you want. Ideally since the food is already prepared, you would think they'll kinda do a chipotle/cava line but they don't. Also, the food is very good and healthy. I love it when I have the opportunity to write a good, quality review. Momi's Kitchen provides yet another opportunity. This fresh food, Mediterranean inspired restaurant filled a necessary void here in southern Maryland. This review is a combination of 3 visits. Visit #1 occurred during their first week of opening. The restaurant was clean, service was friendly, price point was fair, and most importantly, the food was good, but there were a couple of notable hiccups. You will notice in my photos all of the fresh food options to choose from, which is fabulous. One problem, the preparer cross contaminated the utensils a couple of times. The second issue is, that preparer when preparing my order, imposed his preference when I requested to try small amounts of different flavors. For example, I asked about the ingredients of a certain sauce, then requested to try a pinch off to the side. He stated that it's a good sauce and that I would like it, then poured it over my entire order. Trust me, he meant well, and was probably over zealous with energy from the grand opening. Again, this was week 1 and I decided not to review them while they were finding their footing. During my second visit, which came several weeks later, all positives remain in place, and the issues from my first visit were corrected. There was no cross contamination during my visit, and when I requested to sample different flavors off to the side of my main entree, the preparer stated that the choices are good (tasty), but without pause, she adhered to my request and placed them in the corners of my entree (perfect). My third visit, which recently occurred, was perfect. All positives in all main areas. Additionally, the restroom was very clean. Also, I had a chance to chat with, what appears to be, one of the owners and she informed me that all of the food was freshly prepared in-house. She spoke with such pride and reverence. Momi's Kitchen fits my wheelhouse. I can eat Greek/Mediterranean cuisine 6 days a week. I chose 4 stars because the cross contamination issue is serious business. Although it seems to be corrected, management must be made aware of these concerns. So Yelpers, go check them out. If you like fresh, tasty food, you won't be disappointed. Happy eating... read more
