    FRIED RAVIOLI
    Ashley M.

A pleasant surprise! Happened to be in Cotati walking around and came across Mombo's pizza and their happy hour. Tried a slice of pizza and their fried ravioli and it was very good. I would come back. The employees were very nice. Overall was a great experience. It was very quiet inside and no one was there, but I think they were about to close.

I grew up eating mombo's in Santa Rosa, I'd stroll over there between classes at the JC and I always thought the pizza was solidly ok. After a few decades of being away, they opened this location in Cotati and I was interested to see how they were going to be after all that time. The first time we stopped in was the week they opened. It was hectic. Nobody behind the counter knew what they were doing, and the pizza was really bad. The crust was a cracker, the sauce was dry and the cheese was dry too. We chalked that up to opening week drama and waited awhile to see if things would turn around. I was intrigued when I saw a sign outside that said "tamales" which I thought was an interesting combo to pizza so I made a mental note to try them again. We drove up and were the only people in the restaurant and I ordered one cheese and one pork tamal and hubby ordered one slice of pepperoni pizza and a scoop of gelato. Apparently this order was quite confusing because it took multiple people to figure it out. The first guy could not scoop the ice cream and had to get back up. Then there was a confusion about how many tamales I had actually ordered. I had ordered two and then they gave me three but insisted that I had ordered one of each when I actually didn't. They also heated up the tamales in the pizza oven which was interesting. Once I got my plate to the table. I was really disappointed in the quality of the tamales. The masa was extremely dry and heavy. The filling left much to be desired. The cheese one only had a very scant amount of cheese in just the end and the rest of it had none. The chicken tamal that I did not order was completely dry inside and the pork tamal was not a whole lot better. The only saving grace was the tomatillo salsa which added a little bit of moisture back but overall the tamales were pretty much terrible. The pizza, on the other hand, had not improved at all with time from opening week. It was basically the same quality that we had when they first opened so that has not changed at all. The best part of the experience was the gelato which they don't even make there but have shipped in from Marin. Overall a pretty terrible dining experience regardless of what we order here and will definitely be taking our pizza business to Mama J's down the street.

    Greek salad

I've been visiting all the other Mombos for quite some time now. I just happened to be in Cotati looking for a pizza joint when I noticed they had this new location. I used their online ordering system to order myself some pick up. Ordering online was super easy and convenient. They even were sending me text updates letting me know what stage my order was at which was super helpful! I ordered a large Greek salad as well as a 15" half and half pie with a couple sides of tan h. When I got home I reheated the pizza a little bit just to get it warmed back up. The salad was good, classic Greek salad, but I enjoyed it. Our pizza was also great, same ol' classic Mombos style! Thin crust, great pesto, yummy ingredients! All for a reasonable price :)

Enjoyed trying out some pizza from Mombo's this weekend. I love thin crust, so if you're like me I think you'll enjoy a slice! Service was quick and friendly. We ordered carry out so I can't really comment on the ambiance. I got the chicken ranch pizza, the sauce was the standout- very rich and creamy. My sister has celiac and really enjoyed her gluten free pizza! She says this is one of her favorite places so I definitely want to shout that out for any other folks with gluten intolerances.

All the shells and legs we had to remove ourselves. Definitely not like the picture on the website.

Got the shrimp pasta special last week and the shrimp shells & legs weren't removed. The picture on the website looks like it was properly served but when we got it to go, I guess this is what you get. Maybe that's why it was on sale cuz we had to do the work? I don't know but pretty disappointing to have to finish the cooking preparation before eating. Shrimp had no flavor likely due to all the sauce being stuck to the shells. Bit undercooked

Snotty young lady placed our Happy hour menu item as a regular item and just told us to be more specific when ordering next time. Won't be a next time for me. Management is not training the staff with adequate customer service!

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about their pizza, and they really took care of me when I told them it was my first time there. They told me that they serve New York style and Detroit style pizza. I'll have to try Detroit someday, but for now I focused on New York style. I ordered a spicy sausage pizza and a pepperoni which had hot honey. I only ever had hot honey in Los Angeles, so I was hoping it would be delicious. The spicy sausage pizza was delicious, flavors were balanced and I tasted everything they laid out. The pizza is thin so it's definitely New York style and the crust was so crispy and light. The thing I love about New York style pizza is just how edible the crust are. I feel like you can just have them as breadsticks and I would buy them. The hot honey pizza was an out of the world flavor. If I had to pick one pizza for anyone to try it's this New York Pepperoni with hot honey. This is an amazing balance of sweet and savory. The first bite really took my tastebuds on a ride and I was ready for another. The pepperoni pizza wasn't too greasy and the honey just really brought the flavor altogether. I had hot honey in LA, now I'm glad to say, I don't need to go to LA for that. If you have a desire for pizza, look no further than Acre Pizza!

The bartender was very attentive, had a great sense of timing for when to fire the food, and kept an eagle eye on our drinks for refills/refreshes. Prosecco ($10), draft Lagunitas IPA ($7) & a delicious Baldacci Cab ($16) worth every penny. The vibe is casual and cozy, and very family friendly. The portions are VERY generous! We split the spinach salad ($7.50) - everything was well balanced and the candied pecans were perfect! Next had the pesto pizza bites ($11) which was a lot of food. More like an actual pizza and super delicious. Entrees were beef ravioli with meat sauce ($21), and build your own pasta ($19) with 3 meatballs (+$7), creamy marinara, and fettuccini. We walked out with ample leftovers which will serve for another meal. Prices were worth the generosity, and the staff were great. Huge kudos to the whole team and can't wait to go back!

He has since passed away, and I am sorry to say, whatever authenticity went with him. The vibe is a bar pizza joint, and I hope they serve a good pizza pie. The linguine and clams (I asked if it was a garlic sauce) was loaded with clams. That is where the dish ended. It had linguine noodles and a sauce made up of clam juice butter and lemon. I could not taste garlic, so she brought some raw garlic to toss in. The lasagna tasted like canned meat sauce poured over a bland dish of pasta. The chicken noodle soup had tasty chicken, but the overload of oregano was too much, we couldn't eat it and were not offered to have it removed from the bill. The Caesar salad was mayo heavy, could taste lemon and had sliced Parmesan on top. Tiramisu was not umptious either. For the cost of the meal, I will pass. We will try a pizza in the future, hopefully it is their saving grace. Oh, they should learn how to make pasta as well, instead of buying boxed pre made.

(FYI, I'm super woo :)) Then, my sister-in-law raved about it, declaring it the best pizza she's ever had. (Or something incredibly declarative like that.) We decided to give it a try. Upon walking in, Fugazi was playing in the shop. That was a good sign. When do you ever hear Fugazi playing at an establishment nowadays, the last time was probably in a record shop in the 90s. The pizzas are displayed, and you choose how much of each pizza you'd like and they will cut some off for you and it is priced by weight. Then, they heat it up for you to melt the cheese, and viola! Served with cloth napkins, pizza scissors, if desired when eating-in. (Truly the most brilliant way to cut pizza!) Immediately, I saw "OG Potato" and that was a must have. It was something like Potato, ricotta, chile oil, mozzarella, dill. (Just to cut to the chase on this one, it was incredible! I am obsessed with ricotta, and there was something about all the combination of flavors especially the dill that gave some freshness amongst the rich taste of everything else.) Others we got were the pepperoni, a 4 cheese, and a vegan one with no cheese, just tomato sauce, roasted garlic, olives (there may have been other stuff on it, but that's what I remember) Everything was incredible, even the vegan one. The tomato sauce was so high quality, and I was glad there wasn't any vegan cheese on it. Just veggie tastiness in its purest form. The sourdough crust was light and fluffy. It was all just so high quality, and you can feel the passion for their food. Oh yeah, I almost forgot a big star: the Kale Caesar. Don't sleep on that one. It's one of the best salads we've had in years. It was flavorful, with bits of sunflower seeds to give it crunch. Dressing was on-point with a mountain of fluffy parm on top. And so here's the thing with the current state of eating establishments. There is so much expensive mediocre food out there. Nowadays, you may pay $12 for a salad that's out of a bag with wilted ends and sorry baby carrots. And so, considering there's a place that's putting beautifully intentional food out there, I'd rather choose to go to the place that is high quality and cares about their food and sustainability. We topped off our experience with soft serve and a cookie. The soft serve was amazing. We got it 'eat-in' and it was high quality soft-serve in a whimsical cup and presidential spoons. (Love the sustainability angle, but also the whimsy) You can get it with olive oil and sea salt and other toppings, but I went pure. It was milky and homey, and just gooood. (My hubs wanted the cookie) Not to mention, service was genuine. There was a slow, no-rush vibe to this place that might piss some people off. But given its name, I feel like it's apt. It's Psychic Pie for god's sake, and the ethereal does not rush. In the ethereal, time doesn't exist!!! (lol) You can feel that every part of this establishment is in the vision of its owner, wanting the experience to be a part of their authenticity and values. And we need more of that in this world right now. (And I don't mean some skewed sense of 'authenticity' as in just saying whatever comes to mind and is 'in your face' that has infiltrated our society today) This is true authenticity I'm talking about - an expression of your own Light essence. (See, I told you I'm woo) Speaking of which, the music continued to be my jam at my time here... likely to be a Pixies radio mix, with awesome 90s punk / indie. Some songs I hadn't heard in decades but love. So, it was like entering into someone's establishment that's part of my soul tribe. So, if any of the above sound like your jam too... give it a try!

Then, you get to determine how big of a piece you want. They cut it to your liking (in Italy this is called Al Taglio)and then you pay for it by the weight. They always have several options. The other thing that makes the pizza here so special is their use of sourdough crust. I love the texture and flavor that the crust gives to every pizza here. The service is always really good and very helpful. Once you pick your pizzas they will heat up your slices and then dress it up with extra toppings such as herbs, grated cheeses, oils, etc. One of the owners is typically working and they are such lovely people. On this particular visit, my wife and I ordered five different pizzas to try. One of my favorites is the OG Potato, which is covered in thin sliced, crispy potato, ricotta, mozzarella, creme fraiche, dill and chives. It is so rich and creamy. My new favorite is a pizza with blue cheese, walnuts, and caramelized onions that knocked my socks off. Unfortunately, I didn't get the name of that one. There was another new one to me which was the Hot coppa Striacatella. I don't know if I've ever seen charred chicory on a pizza before but it worked really well with the spicy coppa. I also tried the vegan slice which was really good and the Funguy, which is subtle but still tasty. I highly recommend you come try Psychic Pie if you've never been here. It is a Sebastopol must-do!
