It would seem reasonable that during several prolonged visits to a specific store one would purchase something; but not in this case. Not once, but over many visits, my burning wallet and I have perused the beautiful, unique constructions at molly b., and not once has a savvy sales person given me more a passing glance although in yesterday's case, I received a negative perspective on a garment's fitting -- and nothing more. My burning wallet is almost screaming aloud for someone to help me, please, help me... I want to spend several hundred dollars on an oddly deconstructed, slightly crunchy, taffeta-esque jacket and my wallet's doing a holla-back at the sales staff ... and apparently they can't hear it. I don't know what their problem is, for they certainly were attentive to that other over-aged, slightly disheveled looking woman whose name they knew, but not to me... and that's how the story goes over and over and over. I've visited the store in hopes that something will change, because their clothing is actually devine, but there is always the same snobbish grey-haired, couldn't-care-less saleswoman who slobbers over the aging hippies in the place, while giving me nary a passing glance (oops, are you the owner? well you're a jerk). I want to say: I HAVE MONEY I WANT TO BUY YOUR BEAUTIFUL CLOTHES -- but what's the point? They don't seem to want, need or care about my money or whether I spend it with them, so at this point, I will be back only for a gander at the lovely, creative window displays and save my money for friendly, helpful people in other privately owned retail establishments. read more

This store should be out of business for their offensive and rude customer service. Actually, they do not have customer service, rather they have no service. I bought an item over the phone. when I picked it up in-store it was now 40% off. I asked for a price adjustment and was told very rudely "absolutely not!". That was the last straw after having been treated so insignificantly prior to the merchandise pick-up. Then the completely bad and rude treatment in person. Molly B sucks! They are over-priced, egotistical, unprofessional, disrespectful, inconsiderate, thoughtless, etc...DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS STORE! read more

I have shopped only at the Molly B. on Vine Street, and I agree the clothes are exceedingly stylish, and also expensive. The saleswoman at this location is also very good, and helpful, too. However, the last time I shopped there she persuaded me to buy an expensive coat ($350). I tried it on for a good friend who said it did nothing for me. Then I looked at the sales slip, which said they accept returns for store credit only, within 5 days! This was over the Thanksgiving holidays, and it was already over a week, so I have the coat which I don't like at all now. I have bought a number of other thinks which I'm happy with, but one top's sleeve detached. I took it in to the Vine Street shop to have it repaired and several weeks later someone called from 4th Street to say I should pick it up there. She had a haughty tone and sounded as if I was to blame for the faulty workmanship on a top which had cost over $100! So, caveat emptor. I'm going to check out Patina next time. For years I've loved the clothing in this store and have driven from Marin to shop for special items I can't find in my county. The last several times I've come to shop, I've been struck by the bad behavior of the sales people. They will discuss customers they don't like or unpleasant incidents or how bad the boss is, loudly, while I and other customers are present, for example. I see that this is a well-covered topic in other reviews, but I'm writing to say that the Ukranian woman is my favorite saleswoman; she is friendly, warm, and never has copped an attitude. I saw her singled out in a negative way in another review, but she's the best as far as I'm concerned. I hardly ever go to Molly B anymore, the experience is just a downer. read more

Love the clothes! Very European! The lady that helped us at the 4th street store was fantastic! She even offered to call their other store to see if an item I wanted was in a smaller size there. I spent more than I planned and enjoyed every moment! Guess all those rude sales ladies are gone now! I highly recommend this store. read more

First of all, the most creative windows in town. Whoever buys for Molly B has beautiful taste. The clothes are high-priced and I would love to buy more there, but for a special occasion, you can find a unique article of clothing. Nice clothes but there is one of the older ladies The works in this shop, she has very small sight glasses, that is the most rude and nasty sales person I ever dealt with. They have a Return policy of 5 days that they don't tell you about when you purchase but is written on the receipt so if you are not careful enough to read the receipt in the bag they don't take the merchandise back or even exchange it for something else, if you are late. I was late of 4 days and she kept bragging about how a policy was a policy and that Molly B was not just a store but a boutique!!!. So if you have to shop local avoid this store.... read more

This once interesting and attractive boutique has been converted to an emporium that is cold, sterile, and pretentious. Great boutique. Unique, though pricey items. I love to shop here in the fall. Great hats, scarves and gloves that are bonafide show stoppers. Rich colors and divine fabrics. Quality all the way. Jewelry is great too, I have purchased many pieces by one of the ladies who works there, lovely. Great service will give you straight forward advice. I am visiting family and have been in this store before, purchased items, and was looking forward to shopping here again. As I looked at items by the same designer that I was wearing, I was not even acknowledged with a greeting or offered help, while the other woman in the store was. Even after she left, and I was the only person in the store. I was looked in the eye and ignored. I also happened to be the only black person in the store. I will not be back and now have a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Molly B has been one of the best stores in the East bay for years. They have survived because of the incredible taste and style of what seems to be an amazing buyer. Unique, tasteful and quality fashion for the discriminating shopper who wants to add to her collection rather than buy disposable clothes. Worth every penny. The sales help has always been curteous and accomodating. I trust their opinions. Oops, cannot forget the window displays. In a word....Art. I agree with some of the reviewers. The clothes are nice. I actually have to avoid going to fourth street because I get stuck in that store however the customer service is lacking. Plus I have seen them tell women they look good in something when in fact they don't. Please be honest with us when we ask for your opinion. Improve the customer service and attitude. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE. I had been going to Molly B on Fourth St for years but ran in a real problem today. I returned a dress following all the rules on the sales slip, returning it within 10 days with the sales tag attached, and requesting store credit, not a refund. The dress was not worn; I tried it for 2 min at home & saw it was not right. Nonetheless, my return was refused. Why? Because it turns out they do not take back "holiday dresses" - which never communicated to me, nor written on the sales slip.The sales clerk swore up and down she told me. I know she did not, but I can hardly blame her for lying since her job was at stake. It turned into a she-said she-said. I lost. If it is that important, why not write it on the sales slip? Why not put up a sign near the register? When I spoke with the owner, she criticized me for not calling the store immediately when I realized the dress was not right& for not coming back BEFORE 10 days was up (in spite of statement on the sales slip.) i am in the area a few times a year and whenever possible, make a special trip to this store because their collection of eclectic Euro style clothing is worth the price but no more. I was in there today =twice- to take a look at what they currently have in stock and neither time did anyone greet me, ask me if I needed assistance or even acknowledge my existence. I was looking at a skirt on the sale rack and turned to ask one of the women working there if they ran true to size- she walked away without looking at me or addressing my question, even though we were no more than a few inches from each other. I honestly don't expect to be fawned over when I shop and am pretty capable of making choices on my own, but the atmosphere in this shop has gone from cool to downright chilly. I did notice, however, that those who were given a smile and an acknowledgement had much fairer complexions than mine. Just sayin... read more

I LOVE this store. I buy my whole wardrobe here other than staples like James Jeans and Three Dot t-shirts. The owner/buyer has impeccable taste and everything is well tailored and beautifully presented. No primary colors (Yeah!) and much of the merchandise whimsical and unusual, often from Japan, and France but no too far out or fussy. The staff is enormously friendly and helpful and fun too. The clothes are definitely unusual, bohemian, cutting- edge but tailored just so. Women of ALL ages and shapes shop happily here. I have never bought anything that I didn't feel chic and of- the -moment in without feeling over the top. Prices are medium to high but just a few pieces a season keep you feeling up to the moment and over the years everything lasts and blends and works together until you have a really incredible group of clothes. Most of them are hand or machine washable and made of wonderful fabrics. If you can't shop in Paris or Tokyo, shop here. read more
