Disclaimer: I am a Miami Cuban. I grew up eating Cuban food, at least 4 times a week. Now I live in Seattle and can't find Cuban food. This makes me so sad. I have tried many places that claim to serve Cuban food here, but to no avail, I still leave with the Cuban food craving and a little, ok a lot, pissed off. Due to this I have been putting off coming here but today the craving was stronger than my inner cynic, so we tried it. Good news, it didn't suck and my craving was squelched. My main point in the review is... this is the closest thing we have to Cuban food in Seattle people. It's not perfect, it's definitely their own take on it, but it is close enough to kill a craving. The food is decent, the ambiance reminds me of little places in Little Havana and the garlic sauce they put on their tostones is delicious. Their maduros were also really good, in spite of the cheese they put on them. Order the Vaca Frita (not classic, but close enough) and the Mojito Appetizer Stay away from the Tres Leches and Lechon. I will be back for the Cuban Sandwich on the lunch menu, and maybe more tostones with that garlic sauce. read more

Gawd, I want to love this place. It is small and intimate but the energy rises as the place fills up. The Mojitos are tasty and the service is friendly and prompt. At any given time there are people passing through the kitchen like every party I have ever been to. If only they served fish that didn't taste like it was living on the bottom of a dirty lake! We got there at 6:15 and easily found parking on the street and a table for our party of five. We started with some very well made Mojitos and the Laum's Platter which has a combination of tostones, yucca frita and maduros sauced with a garlicky spread with a chunky guacamole on the side. The chef knows how to fry because each of these was perfect with the yucca being my particular favorite. Both The Wife and I ordered the "White Fish" using two different preparations. Now, I should know better that when a restaurant uses the term "White Fish" I really should ask what the hell type of fish they are using. Mine was named Pescado en Guiso and was the fish sauteed with peppers, onions, tomatoes and capers. The Wife had a fried version of the same "White Fish" called Pescado Frito. Everything was well prepared but the fish they are using appears to be tilapia or catfish with a very, very musty flavor. This might be an OK flavor with mushrooms or truffles but in fish it is very off-putting. How the kitchen can serve this fish is beyond me and to charge $15 for it is sinful. I might go back and stick to the meat side of the menu but never, never again will I or should anyone order anything using the "White Fish". read more

As always, a Yelp suggestion, led us here for lunch last week. Overall, it was a mixed bag, but honestly if you really like Cuban food, you would like this place. We got there, found plenty of street parking, mid-day, right across the street and walked in. We sat down (seat yourself) and the waiter came by a minute later with some water and gave us menus. The waiter, by the way, is giving this place +1 star because he was good enough eye candy to distract me from everything else that day. We ordered a few minutes later, and our meal took about 20 minutes to be prepared and brought out. There are only about 8-10 tables (inside) and by the time we got our meal, they were all full. The waiter, mmmm, and the kitchen staff seemed to have a hard time keeping up with the demand of the customers and on more than one occasion this sent the waiter into a frenzy of "sorrys" to the customers. All was well with me, because I wasn't in a rush, and I was content kicking back and enjoying the atmosphere. The meal itself... eh.. left a lot to be desired for. The plantains were fried and topped with a garlic smear. They were out of half of their menu, but I finally decided on a vegetarian sandwich. It wasn't good. They put some sort of sweet sauce in it, but instead of complimenting the vegetables (zucchini and carrots mostly) it overwhelmed them, soaked through the thick Cuban bread (which was A++ itself!), and dripped all over the table and myself. Again, maybe you would like this kind of thing if you were really into Cuban/Latin American food, but I wasn't prepared for such a thing and just ended up poking around at it for 10 minutes before paying my bill and leaving. For a sandwich and a drink, plus tax and tip it was under $10 for a decent amount of food. I wouldn't go back for the food, I might go back for a mojito (which I heard are excellent, from the people sitting nearby), and the hot waiter, but definitely not just the food itself. read more

A bit confused about the 4-Star rating. Called that afternoon to ask if reservations were accepted. Unfortunately, they are not. Walked in as a party of 5 about 6:30 on a nice Friday evening. Stood at the entrance next to a waitress for a few minutes. As this was our first time there and she did not greet us, we assumed it must have been a seat yourself place. We sat down at the only empty table and a minute later she approached us to let us know that table was being saved for someone else (despite the lack of reservations accepted). We got up and put our name on a waiting list and were told we would be seated in 10 - 15 minutes. About 15 minutes later we were seated. The waitress was very quick to take our drink order. (They were out of Sangria by 6:45) About 10 - 15 minutes later, we received our drinks. The margarita was 5 stars! It was very fresh and very tasty. One of our party also raved about the Million Dollar Mojito. About 5 minutes after that our appetizers arrived. We had the Shredded Beef Pastelitos (GREAT!) and the Pork Arepas (GREAT!) Unfortunately this is where the good review ends. We waited another 20 or so minutes for our dinner which would have been okay if it weren't for the numerous screaming babies. (I would definitely call this place family friendly, but maybe not so friendly for those who left their screaming children at home.) The majority of our party had steak based dishes (2 Pepito Sandwiches, Parrila Mojito, and Bistec a Caballo). All four of us agreed the steak was dry and completely without flavor. No seasoning, no marinade, not even sufficiently salted & peppered. One of us has tostones that you couldn't even bite through! The one member of our party who ordered the pork (Lechon Asada) was very happy and all of us who tasted it agreed it was infinitely better than any of the steak based dishes. TL;DR: Drinks are great, avoid the steak, go somewhere else if you aren't interested in listening to screaming babies. read more

Had a unfortunate interaction with the owner here. I arrived to a gaggle of young men being buddy-buddy in the threshold of the pick up window. They moved aside except for one who greeted me. It was an awkward moment of not really being sure if it was an employee due to the "hanging out" energy. I said I was here for pick up and he started talking about my tattoos. I was pretty confused by this and asked if he worked there. He informed me he was the owner. I immediately felt extremely taken aback by this interaction. Then the peanut gallery basically made fun of me being like "who's this creep, who's this strange man talking to me" I didn't feel harassed or creeped out, I genuinely was baffled by this greeting. I'm straight to the point because I want to carry on with my business, it's been a long day and I'm hungry!! They all made me feel like I was the one being rude for being direct but when I walked away -- this whole interaction left a very unprofessional and inappropriate taste. I would give their food 4.5 stars, it's truly a unique flavor that's hard to find in Seattle and I love how full I feel without feeling heavy or sick. But I don't think I'll go back again when the owner is this unprofessional. It's almost 2022 let's stop making comments on other peoples bodies, but especially when you're representing your own business. read more

Went here with a friend visiting from Chicago, on the strength of a Seattle Weekly review that gave the place high praise. My friend ordered the pescado frito (about $15) and I had the parilla mojito ($17). After sampling our own and each other's dishes, I wondered if maybe we'd gone to the wrong place by accident... why the rave review, SW? The carne was discouragingly tough and stringy, and the flavors were underwhelming. The mojitos, which you'd expect to be amazing for a namesake cocktail, were average. At least they didn't use a mixer, I guess. I thought the Caribbean shack ambience was sorta cute, especially since it was a hot summer day in Seattle... it seemed suitable. But while the menu prices are comparable for what you'd pay at dinner at most Seattle restaurants (saving Chinatown's, may they live forever), it jarred to be eating at a place that looks like a Caribbean shack but charges like a Capitol Hill gastropub... kinda like how the Paris hotel in Vegas is vaguely depressing and makes you sad that you're not actually in Paris. Having restaurant leftovers that linger in the fridge is not a regular occurrence at my house, but I ended up feeding Mojito's leftover carne to my dog. read more

Went with a group of friends. The beverages were excellent, the food was superlative. There was this funky garlicy sauce on the appetizers that blew me away. There are a couple of things keeping it from a fifth star: Prices were a buck or two higher in the store than on the website. I hate that bait and switch stuff. Sysco products in the kitchen are a bad sign. The service is spotty. I ordered a coffee after dinner and never received it. But that said, I'm planning on going back when it's warm and trying them again on the patio. read more

Not sure where the great reviews came from. I am assuming they had a few mojitos before eating. Went here with a mid to high expectation (due to all good reviews) and wanted to be wowed. Hmm just the opposite happened we here. Food was bland, the garlic on the food was OVERPOWERING! Pretty disappointing experience..had the civiche for an appetizer, very garlic-ie had the lechon asado again bland and garlic-ie. My GF wasn't havin it anymore and we just paid our bill and left. Hopefully this was just one of those days the restaurant had. Most likely won't go there again - sorry. read more

We walked to Mojito two nights prior to this visit but were told they were closing. We had gone there because their hours on Google were until 10:00. Things change so it was no big deal. We made a point to arrive about 7:45 on our next visit. The place was full and festive. We got a table which we helped bus ourselves because they were clearly swamped. We ordered the special mojito after a bit of waiting and they were really great. Our appetizer was okay. We ordered our entrees after one drink and looking over the menu. A birthday party had started assembling. Things started going down hill. Getting a second drink took a long time. Our food took about an hour. We received it at very near their closing time of 9:00 PM. The big birthday party was having a good time and getting a steady stream of fresh dishes and drinks. I'm no stick in the mud but by the time they grabbed the bongos and were singing "Happy Birthday" at the top of their lungs for the FOURTH time I became bothered at the lack of consideration that we, the only other people in the place, might want to be able to talk to each other as we sat there starving. I'm not exaggerating when I say our ears were hurting and we were incapable of having any reasonable level of discourse. Someone at the restaurant could have probably diplomatically negotiated or nudged the group toward a less insanely loud super-awesome-great time, maybe not. Our server was very friendly and apologetic. She was great but overwhelmed. I could have overlooked most of this if our food had been good and worth the money when we FINALLY received it. The fish was very tasty to be fair but the steak was under seasoned and needed salt. The fried items had clearly been done for a while because they had either congealed or become tough as leather. The food was tepid at best, certainly not warm. We were starving so we ate most of it. We had planned to get the tres leches cake for desert but the restaurant was closed and we were in a bad mood at the end. After all of this our bill, with tip was just over $90.00 for two people. I would have been far more satisfied spending that amount on lottery tickets. The experience was pretty terrible overall. I am debating giving it another chance, it's awfully expensive to hazard a second attempt but there are so many other good reviews and it's close to my home. I was going to give one star but will be generous with two because of our nice server and tasty cocktails. I would never recommend this place at this time though. read more

Oh my gooooooooodness. My partner and I got take-out from here last night for Covid-relief and it was ridiculously good. Like, I was starting to get chocked up (tears) while eating it because I was so happy it's in our neck of the woods and I can now enjoy this same feeling FOREVER. Fantastic fantastic fantastic. You can just tell, sometimes, with food, that someone cares about it. That they legitimately know what they are doing, and are steeped in the cultures and traditions the food originated from and are NAILING it. To the point where it makes you happy to be alive and breathing and privy to the culinary talents and passions of others. It makes you want to gobble down the vaca frita - a wholesome orgy of lime-tinged, crispy-yet-supple-yet-weighty beef lusciously seasoned amidst garlic, onions and sweet peppers - and then proclaim to anyone in earshot that life is subtle and joyous and holds tailored moments of sublime edible pleasure. Meanwhile, I've been constitutionally opposed to plantains my entire life, viewing them mainly as lumpy-banana-wannabe-mush, like a hidden 'gotcha' of healthy-ness recently procured from a baby's mouth. And I eat these plaintains and it was as if the plaintain god's looked down contentedly, eyebrows generously-furrowed and said softly: 'it took time, these are correct, welcome'. They were blackened, crispy and carmelized, soft and melty on the inside, sweet and satiating. Wonderful. The beans and rice were good too. David read more

Mojito is by far our favorite go-to spot for super delicious food anytime we're entertaining family or friends in town. We also love going to Mojito on a frequent basis, so we can get away from the standard variety of restaurants, and instead enjoy a more local and mouth-watering Latin American cuisine! Once you visit Mojito, you'll feel like family and will long to return anytime you have a special occasion. Mojito is at a great location just off Lake City Way & I-5, and very accessible from Green Lake, Roosevelt, Maple Leaf areas. read more

Such a cute little spot! The food was absolutely delicious and the staff is very welcoming

La Casa Del Mojito is a tiny little wedge of a building that stands out from the neighborhood with its brightly-colored, sunshiny exterior beckoning passers-by to come in and try one of their equally colorful cocktails or a savory-sweet taste of their pan-Latin cuisine. There are plenty of refreshing, fruity drinks to try in addition to the obligatory mojito. If you're just doing cocktails and small plates, tostones (plantains) are a must. Yes, there's lots of beef and pork on the menu, including traditional dishes from Cuba and South America, but you can also order up fresh fish, and vegetarians will be more than happy with the variety of salad options or the delicious black beans. The friendly wait staff is happy to work with your needs, or to serve up small portions for kids even though there is no official kids' menu. All in all, a wonderful slice of Latin culture in the midst of the Emerald City, and a great excuse to soak up a little bit of sunshine, even on a cloudy day! read more

The food and drinks here are great! I had the Tucan, which was delicious, and the mojito and capririnha also got high marks from my companions. The Pabellon was very good, not spicy hot but very flavorful. However I thought my husband's steak (Parilla de Luigi) was the better dish. The sides were great too, black beans done right and fried plantains, yum! The day we went is was very hot, but the inside the of the building is sort of triangular, so with the windows on both sides open there was a good breeze. The decor is pretty funky too, they have all sorts of masks on the wall with little notes about their origins. The only downside is that it can feel a bit cramped, since the building is an odd shape. read more

Treasured neighborhood spot with amazing food and great service. This place is small so not recommended for large groups. Great for couples. Have a mojito! You won't regret it. read more

This place is a lot smaller than I thought it'd be, but we had no trouble getting a table. The waiter was very friendly and funny. Holy crap this was great. The margarita was strong & tart just the way I didn't know I liked it. I ordered the Ceviche Mojito. Ceviche is my favorite Latin meal but a lot of places just throw some fish or shrimp in with some pico and call it that. Mojito's had HOMINY in it. So good! Such a different texture to add to the fish and onions. Then to pile this up onto the Tostones plantain thingys...this was by far the best Ceviche variation I've ever had. LOTS of garlic in this sucker-which is great for me, not so much for my husband who asked me to sleep on the couch. I wish I didn't live 40 miles away or I'd eat here all the time. read more

I seriously doubt Fidel Castro himself has ever had a better Cuban Sandwich than what these guys make here. Simply outstanding. Great little place with cool atmosphere. It's small and cozy, but that is a part of its huge charm. The owner is super nice and sat at our table and chatted with us. You can tell he takes pride in this place and works hard to make sure the food is the best it can possibly be. My wife ordered shredded beef, beans, and rice. We can't remember what it was called, but it tasted amazing. She's convinced the rice is laced with cocaine because she can't understand how anyone can make white rice taste this good. With its close proximity to Lake City Way and I-5, I can't help but think of all the people who drive by on a daily basis not knowing it exists. It is truly a hidden gem. If you're reading this review and contemplating whether you should check it out or not, stop thinking, set your GPS for 7545 Lake City Way NE and start moving. You won't regret it, I promise. Oh, and order a mojito made with cachaca instead of regular white rum. It's similar to a caipirinha (which they also make) only less sweet and with mint. So tasty!! read more

Interesting, warm, unique, little joint. It feels like you've stepped out of the Seattle and into some land far away. The staff are super friendly. The food is pretty good. It's strangely expensive though. The prices sneak up on you. $55 for two dishes and one mojito. They don't post their hours anywhere so by trial and error I finally arrived while they were open. They're open from around 5 to 9. The other one in the U Dist is open late night and has dancing and music. read more

Mmmm Cuban cuisine...I'd been missing out until Mojito. This funky little spot was perfect for a fun dinner & quite potent drinks. 2 Caprihenas (sp?) knocked me on my tush-- and I loved it. (It was Friday, no judgement please.) The steak was amazing, as was the half chicken. The mango salad was very sweet, but refreshing all the same. The flavor of the rice and beans was my favorite. I love this place----cuban sandwhich is sooo sooo good. The plantain chips are crispy/chewy and are paired with the best garlic sauce I have ever tasted. If you are daring enough dive into the habanero saure---man is it hot but it has great flavor. The owners are pretty cool too---sometimes they are just in there playing the bongos and singing. great little shop and patio too... la casa del mojitos you have gone into my speed dial list and will visit you many many times read more

I can't say enough about Luam and the crew at Mojito's. I've eaten there many, many times, and never had a bad experience. Even if I've had to wait for a table (and I did have to do that with a group of 12 hungry people once), Luam is incredibly gracious and makes it a great experience anyway. I've taken my best friend there for dinner for his bachelor party; my family visiting from Australia for a 'special meal' during their visit; and had romantic dinners there. The atmosphere is always fantastic and the food is phenomenal, whether I order fish or red meat...and I always have to have some sweet plantains and ceviche of course. Go to Mojito's and be prepared for amazing food, lovely people and a fun, relaxed environment. You won't regret it! read more

Oy. Add this to the long list of sub-mediocre restaurants that Seattlites rave about. Everything was uniformly bland and flavorless. One shrimp appetizer (Carmen Miranda) was an uninspired mix of veggies, fruit, and shrimp. Another appetizer (potato cake) was a mound of mushy potato and salt. The main course was pulled pork and the pork had an incredibly disgusting texture and look, as if it had been pre-chewed and spit back on the plate. With the pork came some salty rice and beans and bland fried pucks of plantain with purely decorative sauce. What amazes me is that there were lots of boxes of limes visible in the kitchen but, sadly, it seems they'll all destined for drinks (which seems to be the draw to this place). None of the food I sampled had any hint of acid and probably could have been improved (albeit slightly) with a dash of citric acid. They need to call in Gordon Ramsey. Or maybe the owner should just head over to Paseo to taste what Caribbean style done well tastes like. read more

One of my favorite neighborhood restaurants. I have no particular menu favorite - everything I've had there has been great. Drinks (including mojitos of course) are fantastic. This place is one of the most authentic and delicious places I've ever been to. Came in expecting a quick pickup, but ended up talking to the owner for about 20 minutes. Luam not only gave us free soup samples, but served us up the best sandwich I've had in a long long time. Easily the best Cuban/Latin American sandwich I've eaten. This place is on most of the delivery apps, but I would recommend walking up for the friendly atmosphere. This man and his team obviously know how to treat a customer - in a time of such uncertainty and hostile tensions (covid, global protests, a horrible president dividing the nation) it was incredibly refreshing to have a genuine experience like this. I've eaten here twice- the first time was on University Way (before it closed down, sad). The first time I just ordered an appetizer/salad, something with shrimp and pineapple/mango/papaya lime. it was amazing. The plantains were delicious as well. the second time (at the roosevelt location), I got the vaca frita and I remember it being very dry. The other people I was with seemed to really enjoy their plates (I believe someone got the parrilla de luigi and was quite happy with it). I still give it four stars because I am holding onto my first memory of it :) read more

SO good. Great mojitos, as would be required with it being a namesake, but the capirinhas are also worth ordering. I have never left without a happy tummy and a smile on my face. The food and the service are top notch. The pescado en guiso (white fish in a tomato sauce) is so tender and moist and delicious and the sauce is a-ma-zing. The vaca frita (cuban dish of shredded beef in lime) is the object of lust for my meat-loving friends. With tostones/plantains.... well, I'm drooling a little as I write this. Eat here. One of my first times here I was on a date by myself... Amber was my server. I asked her for her reference and her recommendation has been my favorite since. Maybe some day I'll branch out from it. But I always say, 'stick with what you know'. Amber remembers me from that visit and Luam, the owner, always remembers me as well. Difficult directions from my iPhone (at one point, it told me to turn onto "Unknown Road")...but we eventually made it there in one piece. The service was great. Really friendly and accommodating. Did some serious furniture rearrangement just to get us settled into a big table. We had so much food that night: -Bistec a caballo: thin cut of well done steak served with a fried egg on top. This was a miss for me. Perhaps it's because I hate it when steak is cooked well done. Or perhaps I was hoping for more flavors. I don't know what it was, but I didn't particularly enjoy this dish as much. -Lechon Asado: slow roasted marinated pork. The star of the night. Similar to pulled pork...but better. -Pabellon: shredded beef dish slow cooked in a tomato sauce -- tender as it was, I liked the seasoning in the lechon asado much more than the pabellon. -Pollo a la Parrilla - grilled chicken. Moist & flavorful. This was a second favorite of the night. Almost all of the dishes were served with fried yucca roots or tostones (fried plantains). My sister thought the fried yucca was a bit on the hard side (as if it was fried hours ago and left under a heat lamp). I agreed. read more

I was reading reviews for this place before I finally decided to check it out. I used to live in Florida where Cuban food came in abundance so I was a leeeettle bit too excited when I first came for a visit. I mean how can you go wrong with charred meat and plantains and beans? But honestly, I think I might have come in when they were having an "off" day. I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be... I felt like the food was lacking one way or another. Service got a little bit better towards the end of dinner but it was really confusing at first. We walked in and didn't get any instructions for a long time. We sat down and had to debate for awhile if we had to get up to order or if they would just come with menu (it's the latter by the way). I do want to come back though because I wasn't quite in the mood for drinks that night. I even overheard the people in the table next to ours talking about how much they were enjoying their drinks. And also, again, this I just love Cuban food and I guess beggars (in these parts) can't be choosers. read more

Stopped here with a group of people after spending the day at a work related conference. My boss used to live around this area and LOVED this place - she honestly couldn't stop talking about how amazing it was when she used to live here and I swear was doing cartwheels just thinking about how amazing the food and mojitos were. She wanted to take me and the group of friends we made from conference here. So we all squished into a taxi and off we went. I personally think we have a lack of excellent Latin type food in Hawaii and so I was totally on board with checking this place out. With her excitement for this place - I won't lie I had some pretty high expectations. It met my expectations! I had one of the vegetarian options the Berenjena en Coco and boy oh boy was it tasty! I LOVED it! Everyone else loved the dishes they ordered also - we all left with empty plates and full stomachs! Of course the whole group had to have a mojito - I mean how do you go to a place named Mojito and NOT try the mojito? It was quite yummy! A couple of the people we were with asked them to make the mojito with coconut flavored alcohol and that was quite tasty also! The atmosphere of this place is cozy and festive! It is really in a small little building - but lucky for us we didn't have to wait for a table. Score! The staff was very friendly and he even put on specific latin music we requested! Great service, great atmosphere, great food and great mojitos - what more could I need? read more

Omg, omg, omg. This place exceeded my expectations. I had heard nothing but good things about Mojito, but I was expecting just really good Mexican food. It was ANYTHING but. I honestly haven't tried much Latin American food, but based on the large number of people crammed into that restaurant and the amount of time we had to wait to get a table, obviously everyone else loves it too. It's also obvious that the owner loves his business and his customers. He was working his ass off on the night we were there, talking to all the customers and offering rum during their rum tasting (unfortunately I couldn't partake in that! :( ) I had one of the fish dishes and my mother in law had one of the meat dishes, one that the server said was his favorite. I tried some of her dish and it was amazing, and so was my pescado. The flavors were so different from things I've had but also very reminiscent of things I have had. All I can say is I am going to make a point of coming back here. Soon. Every day. read more

Their house specialty steaks and mojitos are DUH-licious! The owner and staffs are friendly. Great fun place to grab a bite with a party of 4. The space is small/ tight and ideally fits about 5 - 6 parties of 4 (but with flexibility to turn tables around to accommodate larger groups). The only reason we don't visit more often is the slightly out of the way/ awkward location. It's close to Lake City I-5 entrance and takes some special maneuvers to get there. read more

Flashback to 1995 - I almost rented at the house next door...at the time, this spot was a funny looking coffee shop. Now, it's a cool cuban hangout! I would have soooo moved in had la casa del mojito been there from the start. My life could have been totally different?!! We had the parilla de luigi and a Venezuelan dish that is escaping me.. the beans could have been better, but overall the food was good and they had this slow burn hot sauce that kicked my asian booty.. (just ask for something spicy) It was during lunch and I was nursing a hangover, so I didn't order the mojito yet.. btw - the bright colors don't make sense on the outside, but the minute we stepped inside - it took me right back to the little Soda Piedra del Mar in Costa Rica. read more
