Had a terrific Saturday night dinner with four people. Overall, everything we ordered had great flavor and the staff were very friendly. The interior design is also great. The spice level was pretty high so definitely check with your waiters if you like your food mild. We had lamb and chicken kebabs and samosas to start, then shrimp biryani, yellow daal, naan, and chicken Hyderabad. These entrées were all full of flavor. Have been to Mughal many times in the past, and each time I wonder why I come back..as the decline continues. The concept of fine dining here is long dead..the only fine dining possibly left left is the tablecloths. I had taken my parents and extended family for dinner earlier today to celebrate my father's birthday. Bad choice We made a reservation, and we got our time slot as booked. On walking in, we realized it was hot, and we were sweating even before our food got to us. Spoke to the gentleman at the front desk and he says it was set at 66! No way..and he says this is the best he can do! It took forever for someone to get us water. I asked for a cold carafe of water. He brings us warm water with ice.."we don't have a cold water dispenser" says the server. I was shocked. Each time we wanted drinks or refills we had to call.. the gentlemen at the front desk was more interested on his phone than helping customers or the wait staff. Only saving grace was the the food..some dishes were good. Wanted desert, but unfortunately we were sweating so much, could not bear to continue..nobody even asked us if we wanted any! Don't waste your time. The only 2 things that I liked was the beer that I ordered that I knew was good. Taj beer. And the free papad they give at the start. Their chicken kadhai that I ordered spicy had no spice at all. Fine dining in Edison, NJ is here! The prices are extremely affordable for the quality of service + food that they provide. We ordered the moghul chicken on the appetizer side (last item on the apps) and it was extremely tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. If you add a spalsh of lemon to the chicken, it really balances out the spices. The tikka masalas are also great here and the garlic naan is buttery, smooth, and al dente chewy. They also surprisingly have AMAZING cocktails. My boyfriend ordered a couple of mocktails and they were all delicious as well. We requested for spicy Murgh Wadali and Murg Kadai- they said they cannot customize it. NEVER order Murgh Wadali- too salty. Baingan ka Salaan was bland too. Didn't feel aroma of any fresh spices in all the dishes we ordered. Kulfi Falooda was a disaster- pour falooda over icecream. Irritating thing was for a table near us, they (not waiters who take orders but couple of guys who might be management) got platter of desserts (not on menu) and were treated like vips. For another customer, they packed the left overs while for us, they just put take home boxes on our table for us to pack ourselves. When you charge same amount for all, TREAT CUSTOMERS SAME!! I've been coming to Moghul for the last 20 yearsss but stopped for atleast 5 years I guess there were just so many other Indian food places to tryyy...anyway my husband and I got a deal for 2 gift cards of $50 for $60 can't beat that!! Anyway we used one of them on a Friday night it was pretty packed there so I suggest making a reservation! We got the full order of tandoori chicken and the lamb kabobs! I forgot how amazing their tandoori dishes are to be honest all their Indian food is REALLY good. It's been around forever and I feel at times they loose their credibility. I was happy I came back after so long as was reminded how gooooodddd their tandoori specialities really are! What a classic Indian restaurant if in the area of Edison I would definitely rate this the top 3 if not the best in the town of Edison, NJ! The only reason this is a 4 star and not 5 star because in 20 years the atmosphere is still the same they could make the inside look so much better!!! Also the service is always so slow no matter when you come so prepare yourself! Other then that 5 star food!! Which is the most important thing!!! We went for the buffet lunch on Mother's Day, which was, in retrospect, not the best decision. We did make a reservation but we were still sat 20 minutes after our time. We'd been informed when making the reservation that we'd only have one hour to eat--I've never had this happen to me anywhere else. Thankfully, it didn't seem like they were really enforcing this, and we make it out within an hour of being sat at our table anyway. To say this place was crowded was an understatement. Thankfully, the food was good, there was a decent selection, and the lines weren't too slow. However, there were several points during which the manager literally told people in line to hurry it up, which was rude and it wasn't like people were being slow on purpose. But the tipping point (no pun intended)--and the reason for 2 stars--is they automatically charged an 18% service fee FOR A BUFFET. Look, I understand that the waitstaff is definitely doing some work: they bring water or other beverages if you order them, they take away plates, they address random requests--but it was a buffet and we did most of the work ourselves! I could totally understand even a 10% charge (we Indians have a stereotype of being cheap and not tipping enough) but 18% is just absurd. We could have argued with management but at that point we wanted nothing more than to get out so we paid and left. I will not be returning. read more

Moghul is definitely one of my favorite Indian restaurants in New Jersey and has been since I was a kid. I always loved every dish I have ever ordered from here, especially the garlic naan and butter chicken (you can never go wrong with that). I also love the Drums of Heaven and different varities of manchurian they serve! The staff is so friendly and the restaurant is very clean and organized. Moghul also catered my sweet sixteen which I had just next door at Mirage and it was perfect, especially the Double ka Meetha and Gulab Jamun in the dessert menu. All my guests loved the food and made sure to tell my family and I about it afterwards. I love this restaurant and I will always recommend it to everyone. read more

On top of that, he would tell me that as soon as someone enters an order (even if his staff makes a mistake), in 10 seconds, their kitchen would prep the order and it will be ready and therefore he expects customers to pay and eat what his staff entered or he would get offended. Excuse me, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? It was utter nonsensical. He is the LAST PERSON ON EARTH you can have at front desk. There were 2 other customers waiting when he used bad language and I simply walked away asking him to cancel the entire order and he goes "**** You" again. With a gesture like that, I guarantee the business is going downhill. I've been going to Moghul's for few years. Mostly for the dinner on occasions and sometimes on buffet during lunch hours on weekends. We went to Moghul over the weekend for dinner. I feel like food has been uninspiring, nothing new on the menu and more expensive compared to other Indian restaurants in the area. That being said I really liked the food, it wasn't that greasy that makes you bloated only after few bites. We sampled dishes such as Paneer Tikka, Aloo Gobi, and biryani prepared several ways. The naan is excellent and prepared fresh in the open kitchen. I will try it again in couple of months but depending on the cost I will no longer be a regular customer. The owner Mr. Mehtani needs to do something to bring the old good Moghul back. read more

Although we were among the only "gringos" in this elegant but friendly Tandoori restaurant , we felt right at home. We were with family that included spicy loving young parents, grandparents with more tender palates and an a 2 year old who is an adventurous eater. The two year old connected us with the families of other toddlers, surrounded by much larger family groupings, and led to their advising us on our orders. Yummy food including many vegetarian choices not seen on most local Indian restaurants here in Boston. A true tandoori oven visible to eaters served up huge delicious naan and meaty entrees. Homemade paneer graced our beautifully seasoned saag(spinach) and there were both typical and unusual(for us) appetizers, chaat, and sauced entrees. Alcoholic drinks were strong and balanced. Plain and mango lassis were just right on a warm summer night. Service was efficient but friendly. Prices very reasonable. Parking is easy NOTE: a service charge is added to your bill, so no need to add an additional tip unless you were blown away by your server and want to do so. This area is graced by many fine Indian restaurants representing the many regions of that huge country. There's lots of competition so it's hard to go wrong. But I think our family has found its sweet spot for when our travels take us to this part of NJ. read more

We went for my husband's and brother-in-law's 40th birthday dinner. The service was great! We were seated early and were able to order drinks before the restaurant even opened. The outdoor dining decor is fabulous as we took a lot of family photos. The waiters are attentive and polite - the downside is they did not have lava cake for some reason that night but icecream and tiramisu was good. The service is always on point at Moghul. Larson was accommodating and friendly throughout the evening. And of course the food is delicious - that is why we keep coming back! Need I say more?! read more

I have only been here for lunch and though I am not an Indian expert the lunch buffet seems to be heavily weighted on the oily side. There is just too much heaviness across the offerings as compared to the other places I have seen. Some may welcome this but for me I think I will pass next time around. We had dinner at Moghul in Edison tonight. My friends and I wanted Indian food, and I've been wanting to go to Moghul for awhile. It seems like every time we try to make plans, something happens, but we were finally able to get here. One friend ordered the samosas appetizer, and another ordered the garlic naan. We three go to a lot of Indian restaurants, and this was by far the best garlic naan we've had. The samosas were top notch, too. Tasty, nicely spiced, and inviting. For dinner we each ordered a dish and shared. B had lamb roganjosh, R had Reshami Kebab, a deliciously spiced minced chicken dish. I had Peshawari Kebab, a yummy lamb kebab entree. Funny, mine disappeared first because everyone was reaching for it! We ordered a bowl of basmati rice to share. For dessert R ordered the Gajar Halwa, a grated carrot dish. It wasn't what she thought it would be. We all had a taste but left most of it. It was very sweet between the carrot and what tasted like sweetened condensed milk. Service was attentive but not claustrophobic. We had a nice time and were allowed to sit, talk and catch up. It's been months since we were all able to get together. We were seated by the window and treated to the sight of deer in the parking lot! I wasn't expecting that. 5+ stars for the most amazing Indian food I've ever had. I like Indian food, and this place is a the best I've ever eaten at, not even close. It's like they take traditional menu items and raise them a whole level of awesomeness on top of normal. Regular chicken tikka masala has awesome flavor, but it also has a light airy feel (I think they use an immersion blender and whip the hell out of it). Everything needed to be ordered separately which adds up: chicken tikka masala ~$16, white rice - $4, raita-$6, coke-$3.50 (I consider that pricey). The portions were decent sizes. Chicken tikka was bland, didn't find it flavorful at all! I visited Moghul with my 2 sons on Sunday, 19th Feb for the lunch buffet. We called up before going to check whether the buffet was available and also the price. We were informed that the buffet lunch was available and the price per person was $ 21.95 plus taxes. When the check was brought to us, we found that the restaurant had levied a service charge of 20 per cent on the buffet cost. This is totally unacceptable and the restaurant needs to act ethically by being transparent upfront on the cost. Will not visit this restaurant again. read more

Service: Ambiance was confusing. They have booths with plush comfy benches and tables to seat small groups/couples. It really can be whatever you make it- a date night with someone special, or a night out in your jeans with kids. Service was exceptional. We also ordered 4 pieces of naan + lamb biryani + eggplant curry-- everything was delicious and was enough to feed 5 hungry family members. Con: Kind of expensive. 5 people : 4 beers + 1 chicken curry + 1 lamb biryani + 4 naans + 1 soda + veg dish = 150 ( incl. gratuity automatically added ). With so many indian options on oak tree, this kinda price tag is uncalled for. However, they must be doign something right - to be able to still charge such a hefty price for their menu( and lunch buffet as well , 12$ acc to other yelpers).
