Decent pastrami. I think the half-portion is enough for a woman unless she is starving. Service is fine.

You won't find a better pastrami sandwich in Germany. I was skeptical after watching the New York Times feature video about Mogg & Melzer, but one bite of the sandwich made me a believer. The cole slaw was pretty good too. The staff was friendly and efficient. I will definitely return for more. If I have one complaint it is that a full size sandwich is a little expensive at €12, but it's worth it when all is said and done. read more

Its a cute little place located in a wonderful old brick building which used to be a Jewish school. There are galleries and expositions in the same building and the great pauly saal restaurant just next door. I tried the pastrami sandwich which was wonderful, nicely seasoned. It comes with pickles and coleslaw. The guys behind the counter are relaxed and very friendly and u can either sit at one of the few tables and read the fashion and design magazines provided. They have a selection of sandwiches (Reuben etc), bagels and salads. Prices are reasonable. read more

Upon arrival a rather unfriendly waitress pointed somewhere to the ceiling: we interpreted this as 'you can sit wherever you want'. We sat down on a table with one menu card - no second card was ever brought - on which the drinks were not mentioned. After a long time waiting we managed to order our food: 2 reuben sandwiches (12.50 euro each). When my wife ordered a Radler, she had to pay for two drinks (a sprite and a beer). Then, some people who ordered the same dishes later received their food before us... The food tasted a bit greasy but good. We've eaten pastrami in NYC many times before and this was really tasty. After we finished our sandwiches, we waited a long time, but the waitress never came back for another round, to take our empty plates, or to ask if we wanted dessert. So instead, I had to walk to the bar where I was also ignored for quite a while. In the end the bill was 34 euro. I handed 40. I had to instruct the waitress to hand me some change back because she 'understood' if was 'fine' like that. Hell no I'm not going to tip that much for such a bad experience. When we got back home about an hour later, both me and my wife felt sick, and almost had to vomit. Something was not right with the food itself either. One of the best places for a nice lunch in Mitte. The sandwiches are huge. I'm a big fan of the pork and avocado one, while my boyfriend always goes for the pastrami (which is pleasantly fatty). The salads look ridiculously good too, especially the goat's cheese one. read more

In the last years some NY style delis have openend in Berlin. Mogg is one of them. We had the Ruben and the regular Pastrami sandwiches. The Pastrami is very good, soft, not too salty and has nice spices. The size of the sandwiches is good, but not too big neither. The prices are certainly on the high side. Even for the location and the type of food but I can recommend it and will certainly go back. read more

It's been a long time since I've had a Katz Delicatessen pastrami sandwich, but these guys have no reason to hide. Their Reuben was generous and damn tasty. Once your GPS says you've arrived, don't be shy: just go in and take a right after the stairs. You'll find a cosy homey room with free wifi. I might have to return here before I leave Berlin. Best pastrami I had outside of the US, maybe even outise of NYC! And the size, wow i had eaten for the whole day with this one! The coleslaw hmmmm delicious! Absolutely worth a try if you like sanwiches. A little hard to find, its in a old school, but this renders the place just more authentic and much more comfy! You can tell they have no idea about American food! What a freakin joke! Very cheap imitation or attempt with little quality and think if they jack the price up for the Berliners or Touris then it has to be good. New York and everywhere else in America you pay twice as less and get real food like this with real love. This is whats ruining Berlin, Germans and other Europeans visit New York one or two times and actually eat some of the best food they ever experienced and come back to Berlin where everyone is moving to and cant even come close! Dont call it a Rueben if you cant make a real Rueben idiots! Would love to see someone shut them down and get some real Sandwich makers in there but unfortunately Berlin visitors have no idea of originality anymore and will try anything and think its original and authentic because its in Berlin. I don't usually write reviews, unless they're positive, but this... the sandwich is 13.50 euros, and it's usually excellent, but the last time I ordered from them, my meat was grey and tough. This time they didn't even send the extra coleslaw that I paid EXTRA for (order placed for delivery). The coleslaw they did serve me was about 1/3 the usual size. Then I called up to ask about the coleslaw, and the guy was sooo rude, I couldn't believe it. He kept trying to hang up before I'd even had the chance to ask a question. When I finally did get the chance to explain what had happened, he didn't even apologise. He told me to call the delivery company, said they'd give me "free delivery" (whatever that means), and then he hung up. I don't even give a f*k about the coleslaw. Like I said, I wouldn't have even written a review, but it's the goddamn attitude. read more

Absolute gem of a deli housed in an historic building, a former Jewish girls school, in hip Mitte. It's small so get there before 7 pm if you want a seat. Fantastic matzo ball soup, poached egg on brioche with truffled mushrooms and pulled pork Rueben with avocado were the highlights. Servers were terrific. Do not miss this restaurant. read more

Overall a good experience, although service needs some work. Four of us tried much of the menu - a pulled pork sandwich, a Reuben, a pastrami, the beet and goat cheese salad, matzo ball soup, and several sides. The food was all very good - large portions, well-seasoned, and reminiscent of home. My only quibble is that the matzo ball soup was just ok - a large, heavy matzo ball in a big bowl of broth without much else to liven up the soup. Service was subpar -- the one waitress seemed almost afraid to approach our table and practically blushed each time we asked for something. The best pastrami on rye sandwich I have ever eaten comes with pickle and a fantastic slaw/ sauerkraut. During the week the girls who work the kitchen and dining area and friendly competent efficient and great. The ruben pastrami would have to be the single best hangover cure in the world.
