Modoo is a family owned donut shop that is opened 24/7 except on Sunday. We happened to randomly stop here on a weeknight for a donut fix. I was surprised to find so much variety for a small shop. When we arrived, it was fairly quiet with just one more customer inside. The gentleman at the front counter was friendly. We got a mix of 4 donuts and half a dozen donut holes. The donuts were fresh and delicious even at that time of day. They have various flavors and cute designs. I'm not into a pretty looking donut that is photo worthy. I prefer a donut with a soft and chewy texture which they achieved. The glaze frosting was not over the top sweet. I usually wouldn't choose donuts as my first choice for sweets. This was one of my go to places when I would go home to La Mirada for a visit. But, I don't know if the virus shrunk everything or they just had to find ways to save money in order to stay alive. My go-to donut is the apple fritter and it's still the best anywhere BUT with the price increase and smaller size ( and I'm not talking about the mini which is ridiculously small) and not going to go as much as I have in the past. I came here to get some donuts for coworkers late one weekday morning. The donuts were still plenty fresh despite it being a later hour. I got a maple bar, maple glazed old fashioned, lemon filled, chocolate sprinkled, strawberry and a white vanilla frosted donut. The gang at work likes to cut them up so they can try various flavors so I got to sample a few. The maple glazed old fashioned was the star of the show. A perfectly made old fashioned with a thick, flavorful maple glaze covering the top. The chocolate was a winner too - tasty chocolate cake with lots of chocolate icing on top. The strawberry was my least favorite; it faintly tasted like some sort of fruit. The vanilla one was good but had everyone shrugging "whatever". The lemon-filled was quite moist with lots of slightly sweet lemon filling; lemon lovers will be pleased. Prices were excellent and the service was both rapid and hospitable. A Korean-owned donut shop in the center of a street filled with korean market plazas and businesses in Buena Park. Parking was easy since there's a large parking lot. Price: The specialty donuts (i.e. minion, pokeball, piggy, cookie monster, etc.) are $2 each and the other donuts are around $1. I should admit the real reason I came here was because I saw on their yelp page that they sell cutely-decorated minion and cookie monster donuts. I love cute desserts so I knew I needed to try this place. However, it doesn't matter how cute the sweet treat is if the taste is subpar or mediocre. Thankfully that wasn't an issue here. The donuts I ordered were soft and I actually loved the vanilla frosting glaze, and it wasn't too sweet for me. (I saw that some reviews complained about the donuts being too sweet but to me the donuts had the normal level of sugary goodness associated with delicious donuts). Who doesn't love it? It's the best with no challenger, but here's a secret - disguising as a donut shop this is actually a fantastic place to get sandwiches. My typical pick-up here consists of the ham & cheese on croissant and occasionally an iced coffee, Thai tea or their divine cinnamon sugar donut holes. I can describe the sandwich as.. Moist, crispy, refreshing, perfectly salted and balanced. And they're open 24 hours, hard to beat the late night craving here for $6 or even coming in bright and early with the construction workers. As for the other items, the Thai tea is standard fair at a $5 premium while the iced coffee is a bit more mediocre but will do in a pinch when there's not else open around (there really isn't). My heart goes for the cinnamon sugar donut holes though. The texture is fluffy, tender - mind you, not chewy! It's lightly sweet and disappears in moments. You've got to try it. read more

I was super tempted to get a ham and cheese croissant, but decided not to since it was late at night. First of all, the apple fritter was good. Was it great? No, but for something open late at night, its a good option. Better than anything you'll get at a grocery store. The cream puffs were also pretty good. Not great, but not bad. It's slightly above a frozen cream puff you can get at Costco, but only because its fresh. The cream inside isnt super sweet and the puff pastry is relatively light. Since its open late, I would definitely consider coming back for a ham and cheese croissant or a donut. Until then i would say its 3 stars. read more

I tried filling the kids up with soda, but....they rather have V8 or a naked Juice. Those are expensive here. $3.99 each. But, they loooove naked juice and were so excited to drink their Mango treat. The hubsters and I had Chocolate Milk, cuz we were setting a good example. The store had a huge display case full of juices, sodas, milks, water, ect to quench anyones thirst. Our donuts were just okay, nothing special. They are displayed in little baskets with numbers. Nothing really caught my eye. Then again it was super late at night. Im sure they taste better fresh. And now a days donuts are out of control so there is a lot of competition in donut land. I had a maple bar, which was really dry. The hubsters had a bear claw type thing filled with cream. He said it tasted like any other donut. The little ones had sprinkled donuts and a bag of donut holes, which they only had a few bites of, and decided to save for later. They did say they were good. After passing it on my way to work for 5-6 years, I finally stopped one morning and was so very pleasantly surprised! LOADS of selection and on display to easily see. Every donut I've ever had from Modoo has been fresh and delicious! My favorite donut has got to be the white cake, white frosting and rainbow sprinkles. I think that's been my favorite since I was a kid... and Modoo does it right, it's about 90% covered in frosting, even the little donut hole is filled up with sticky sweet goodness! I don't often eat donuts, but I know I can count on Modoo if I ever have the hankering. I celebrated the last 2 years of NATIONAL DONUT DAY (June 5th) at this very spot. My absolute favorite 24/7 Donut shop. They have an extensive menu for donuts, sandwiches and the best and I mean the best cream puffs, ever! They're homemade and fresh. I suggest going early mornings to get your hands on them before they sell out. The owners are fantastic and do truly cater to their clients. If you have a special order needed.
