I have never had a bad experience at this store and they are very helpful and pleasant

I was told an employee of true value that they do not except return of unused items with a receipt in hand. Store policy states that they will return the item within 30 days if it has been unused and you have a receipt . I do not recommend purchasing anything from the store being to the fact that they break store policy and don't allow their customers to return items . I'm going to the store personally to talk to the manager and report them to corporate office keep updated for the next comment . read more

Old lady in the front is rude. I always come in with my man bag and today was no different. It could be a backpack, a huge tote. I hate things in my pockets. This lady tells me I need to leave my bag at the front. I let her know it's my man bag and she wouldn't hear it. If a woman went in with her bag, would she have to leave it at the front too? Doubt it. Turned around and walked out without buying anything and doubt I'll go back. I used to come regularly, for personal and business needs, but I'll just go to a big box store again. read more

Nice little hardware store with awesome staff -- they've found the balance between taking long enough to actually listen to a question and moving things along efficiently. Everyone I dealt with while getting paint mixed was terrific. Selection is good for the size, and prices seem reasonable. I should have signed up for their rewards program, which is store-specific (not like national chains where it's one sign-up for all stores) -- well, next time! Bring your patience to their parking lot, as drivers zoom through it like it's a speedway: not the store's fault, but something to watch out for if you like your car. read more

We went to Ace because our front lever (garden) nozzle broke. It had a lifetime guarantee, so they replaced it without a receipt, no questions asked. The manager greeted us with a bag of popcorn and a smile. They also helped us find a few other items we needed. Very friendly. Now that's what I called good customer service! I almost forgot: they have a huge selection of specialty keys, really cute & cool ones, almost any you could think of. The only down side they aren't really strong and I have had one bend and one break. read more

Thank you, manager, for coming out to address my concerns about service. As a very VERY long time customer, I have always looked forward to visiting your store. Hope to do so again. I have updated my review because of the prompt contact online. It was refreshing to see such concern, despite my "melt down" . I will be back, as personal service and convenience there have always been a tradition in the past. Suggestion: the door to the rear is very heavy, especially with a cart. Keep carts handy near the front. If someone is busy, " he's helping a customer but will be right with you" sounds better than "he's busy with a customer." Turning away from a customer when she's raising her hand is less helpful than a smiling acknowledgement of "be right with you." (I wanted to order lumber.) I was having 17 keys cut by a nice young man in his twenties, when a rude gray haired employee named Ken took over the cutting machine to cut a lady's keys standing behind me in line. the lady and nice young man helping me apologized for what Ken did. Revised from 1 star to 3 stars, on 5/25/23. While this business has had some recent fails, the owner Brittany responded to my negative post in about an hour. Instead of making excuses, she offered to meet and work together to address specific issues. A real hallmark of first person ownership. Brittany: I will come in and meet with you, to both help you as a customer intensive business, and to try to modify my rating up. Best regards. After shopping this local business for 7 years, we're done! There is some kind of scam with propane refill punch cards. I supposedly have 5 gallon propane bottles, but the MOST I ever can get the guys to fill is 4.2 gallons. Which means that unless I run my bottle COMPLETELY empty (during cooking a meal ... bad), the fill is 3.8 to 3.9 gallons consistently. THAT does not qualify for a Buy 10 get 11th free punch. So mostly I refill, without a punch. Hang in there, the One Star will be explained. 2nd previous visit I asked the guy filling my usual 3.9 gallons, to call in his walkie-talkie and say 4.0 gallons. In other words, I'd pay for an extra .1 gallons ($0.359) to get a punch. His answer: "No Way can I do that". Last time, and my typical 3.9 gallons again, I asked the cashier who manually rings up amount, to ring me up at 4.0 gallons ... again paying as if they supplied me 4.0 gallons. Answer: "Can't/won't do it". Me: I want you to charge me more. Her: "NO!" So I tore up my punch card, and I never go to True Value ... not for another screw, hardware, and NEVER for propane. If I could give a 0 star review I would. I went in looking for a couple of different things and Rochelle or how ever her name is spelled was completely rude from the moment I walked in. Customer service is about how you treat your customers every moment they are in the store. I needed a ladder saw an 8' in the holder for 82.00 and got to the register and came up as double the price. Went to price check it with another worker and it was not the same model and Rochelle proceeded to tell me "Oh well that's not the price to bad". Mind you it wasn't the price and I would have bought it, it was the attitude in general. For being a small store you would think someone like her and the staff there would be more appreciative of their customers coming in. Definitely will never go back. read more

So I went in for a color match on paint that I needed for my living room. And they had a hard time matching it and I had to get to work. Brittney was awesome she let me go to work and worked on the paint until it was prefect and the delivered it to my work. They have the best customer services. read more

I wanted to like this store especially since we are all about supporting our community in my home and my husband apparently said they were so friendly.... maybe I went on a bad day, but anyways went there yesterday for the first time. Customer service to me is a must, and well the girls at the register... not a hello...no how are you? Not even a smile. Then I realized how much more I spent there than going to Home Depot which again the point was to avoid the big business stores but I just came home from Home Depot and the exact same size of miracle grow soil cost me double at true valley Lastly, you asked me to bring the cart back into your store after I was done with it. You know, that's like me asking my patients at the hospital to get their own water or medicine. But I honestly do not know why the manager continues to have the same girls for so long with all these bad reviews. I have to say that this store is one of the best hardware stores you can visit for your general needs in Modesto. Everybody is friendly and helpful. Plus they have people working here that have years of experience and can answer many questions. If they don't have it in the store, they can special order it for you. And they're humble and modest enough to tell you if they can or can't get something for you and will recommend another location. I can't stress enough the importance of good customer service, and I like to patron these type of stores for that reason. However in this store, I had a question and could not get the staff's attention to save my life. Apparently, one of them telling jokes and talking-it-up the morning cashier was far more important. It wasn't until I saw a second employee coming in from the parking lot where I literary had to put my hand in his face to get him to stop walking to ask a question. Best hardware spot in town! They are obviously much smaller than Lowe's or Home Depot but they somehow always seem to still have what I'm looking for. They are very well staffed so it's easy to get help trying to locate that hard to find item. This store has a homey small town feel that makes me love shopping there. read more

True Value is a great place to find that odd pipe fitting or that unique fastener that the big box stores don't usually carry. The staff is very knowledgeable and can answer most hardware / plumbing or electrical question that you may have, which is refreshing compared with many staff from the big box stores. The store is always clean. Everything is always organized. It is true that pricing may be slightly higher than those box stores, but the expertise is unbeatable. read more

I have been going to this store for years, and can not say enough about how helpful and "old school" these folks are when it comes to customer service. In an era of big box stores, where you're left to search and try to find what you need, the hands on help and advice I receive has made a big difference in my being able to accomplish my home-projects. If they don't know, they will try to find out. I had a problem with a heating register, and they didn't carry what I was looking for. They called the manufacturer and tried to track down an option, but it turned out it had been discontinued. That's service. And in all sincerity, I'm an advocate of supporting smaller stores, as long as they provide the products and quality service I need. I trust these folks and this store, and it's my "go to" hardware store in our city. read more

Told him what type of thing I needed, he took me straight to it, carried the bags to the register, waited while I paid, then carried my purchase to the car, thanked me and wished me a good day!
