Having a strict pick up set of rules placed on the consumer and they close never at 4 so don't count on picking up feed from there actual location anytime after 2:30b these people know they have a monopoly on organic feed in CA anyone know of another organic feed supplier anywhere this place just dropped there bags by 10lbs while keeping the price and doubled there wholesale tote orders so this is a perfect example of a company that can do what every they want to there customers and do. I got into an argument about my ton being off 100 lbs exactly 2 times in a row. 100 exactly each time. And it was my fault. I have an industrial scale for weighing totes of grain my whole entire life. Tied house brewery redwoood coast brewery and Hermitage Brewing. Abd when 2 of my scales read exactly 100 odds are it's off. So this office would rather call a very loyal customer a blond and a liar was really crappy but my next pick up the owner or ceo came out personally with my receipt. And told me to contact him with any issues directly. Super cool to have a boss that made things right. Except I'm owed 200lbs of feed from Modesto mills and considering how the office personnel handle conflict I'd recommend pre ordering and get it delivered I'll pick a tote up weigh it for you and drop it anywhere between Bakersfield to Ashland Or will be a fee but my trucks fully electric so I'm positive I can deliver totes something Modesto mills doest do and believe me they spend have to throw out alot so I get why they rather deal with trains and semis. FYI soaking there feed and add 1 bottle of start water to 6" above a half full bucket after 3 days will be a great probiotic easier digestible feed than those pellets!!! Especially for older horses and other grazers just fill three days worth and start your rotation! Works with all animals I've done this with ducks chickens pigs cattle horses goats and bears. Little stinky but they love it and you get double the value minus an electrolyte bottle of smart water!!!! read more

I highly recommend modesto milling. When we got our chickens we started out with the Purina brand organic feed. Then I found out about this place that offers organic corn free and/or soy free chicken feed at a very reasonable price. If you don't live in near Modesto, it is seriously worth it to pay the shipping charges to get their feed shipped to you. My chickens devour this feed. They eat it way more enthusiastically than they did the purina brand. You can tell the difference in quality just by how it looks. I am also very impressed with their customer service and speed of getting an item to you. I ordered a 50 pound bag of feed yesterday on the phone and I received the bag today. I was totally shocked to get it so quickly. I highly recommend this place for all your feed needs! read more

Discovered Modesto Milling years ago. A friend must have led me to them. However, I usually didn't carry cash, never carried checks, and rarely passed them....with young kids like mine were at the time, it just wasn't convenient. Daughter and I went to the 4th annual, and probably 7th annual Heirloom Expo in Santa Rosa, where Modesto Milling had a booth and gave out lovely samples, which re-sparked my interest in organic feed for our chickens. Even found out that they take credit cards now. They still aren't on my way to anything, except maybe blueberry picking once a year, but my kids aren't little anymore either. I've been a customer for over 4 years and recently had to switch, why? For the past 3 years there hasn't been one order that went smooth without trouble, let me list a few of them: 1. Feed isn't pure. I like to order whole grain when possible and my oats and peas always have other grains mixed in with them, not even a small percentage, like Greg said, it's about 20%. This is a big problem to any poultry owner since it messes up your ratio. 2. Bad communication within office. If you call the office and make a payment, don't expect that to transfer to shipping or billing or any other department, they don't work that way. What end up happening is you have to do their work for them, which is call every department and asks to speak to everyone until they all know that a payment has been processed. 3. Bad shipping communication. If you call them at any time regarding your order, you will always hear this:" Your order will go out today." from every single darn employee when they actually have no idea when it will be shipped, I called 4 days in a row and was told that everyday for 4 days. There isn't even a resolution to this, if you speak to Greg or the controller, you answer is this, tell me if you love it:" You are not our only customer." Right, of course, that's the excuse for everything. I will be trying other mills and see what happens. read more

I raise poultry on a small farm and the quality of feed is extremely important to me. I'd started to mix my own formulations until I found Modesto Milling. Their feed is absolutely the best I've used ever. I recently compared two separate flocks on different feed. One on Modesto Milling starter and the other on another brand common around here. After about five weeks the chicks raised on Modesto Milling starter were about 20-25% larger than the others despite hatching 4 days later. They also consumed about 30% less feed. This last point is extremely important as feed from Modesto milling is about twice as expensive as industrial, non-organic "cardboard" you get at most feed stores. Customer service is definitely lacking - I ordered a ton of feed on Monday and did not hear back on Wednesday. I called them to check on my order and they had no record of it. I asked what they could do for me since the man who took the original order had told me that delivery was possible by Friday. They said, oh no, at least 7-8 days to get the ton to me. So, my pigs are hungry and I had to scramble to get a supplier. Lucky for me, the guys at King Feed were able to refer me to Valley Feed in Watsonville, and I now have an even better formulation for my pigs! Don't depend on Modesto Milling to follow through. read more

We've been making the 6 hour round trip drive to Modesto Milling for the last 2-3 years for bulk buying of their awesome chicken and livestock feed...it's well worth the drive when I can save a few bucks per bag over retail feed shop prices...their organic feed is definitely the best and my animals have thrived on it! read more
