Best nursery around! 3 specific things: 1-We bought a tree here and a tree from a large/corporate home store (the blue one, not the orange one). The same age/size tree and planted at the same time. The one we bought from the Greenery is taller and the truck is wider and just looks overall better, despite them starting at the same size. The price difference was minimal and I wish we bought both trees from the Greenery. Because of this, we came back to buy more trees, despite the price being a little higher. The overall value is a lot better considering we picked up professionally cared for trees by knowledgeable people (versus a random big box store clerk who didn't know much about the trees). 2-Everyone here is super friendly, goes out of their way to stop what they are doing to offer to help and carry things. Think, normal customer service, but extra caring and thoughtful and nice. 3- Shout out to Alex specifically who took his time to answer a bunch of tree questions on multiple visits. We went in for large planters and plants and I was blown away by the selection--so many colors, textures, and sizes throughout the nursery. It's peaceful, spacious, and full of beautifully cared-for plants, fountains, statues, and more. Prices are super reasonable, and the indoor shop has great gift ideas. I'm originally from Turlock but now I live in Minneapolis, and my family is still there. When I visit, my mom and I love stopping by The Greenery - everything is always such great quality. This year I wasn't able to fly home for Mother's Day, so I called The Greenery to see if they could help me put together a surprise from afar. They were SO AMAZING! All via texted photos, Lucy helped me pick out a great pot (and it was on sale for a killer price!) and a main plant (we went with lavender), and she and her coworker took off with the rest. They filled the pot with soil, planted the lavender, added some colorful filler flowers, and took my payment over the phone. My brother was able to stop by later that day and pick it up to take to my mom. She was thrilled, she has a beautiful patio pot, and all for the same cost it would have been to deliver a generic bouquet of flowers! read more

Be cautious when purchasing any type of water feature from the greenery. After bringing home a water fountain from this nursery it does not run after being set up, unfortunately they will not stand behind their products due to the fact that it was on sale. I did speak with the manager and she refused to stand behind the product or put me in touch with the owner of the business.. It seems like a nice place.... the after sales policies are unfortunate. Buyer beware! Aaron from the greenery gave me a call to help resolve the pump issue. I have already purchased a replacement pump though and spent some time fidgeting with the fountain. I believe that if I had made contact with Aaron when calling in I would never have written this review. Unfortunately the managers response was rude and unprofessional in my opinion. I had heard about The Greenery before I went there. I was kind of expecting a mini Busch Gardens. It was such a disappointing experience. They must not have the number of employees needed to maintain the plants properly. The plants there don't look healthy! Ok, there are plants that are lush, gorgeous and healthy. But for the most part they are dried out and depressing. read more

I visit this nursery several times a week (it's about a mile from my office, so it serves as a perfect half-way point for my afternoon walk). It is a nice local nursery with a good selection of plants. The good: The Greenery has a nice selection of camelias, Japanese maples and fruit trees. It has more varieties of avocado trees than anywhere else in the County, and although it is not a tropical plant nursery, it will occasionally have tropical plants like pineapple lilies that aren't available anywhere else nearby. The plants are kept healthy. This is not a Lowes or Home Depot garden center where half of the plants have outgrown their pots or are dying from too much or too little water. If you purchase a plant from The Greenery, it will be healthy, and if it dies on you shortly after going into the ground, they will replace they plant. The bad: The Greenery is, hands down, the most expensive nursery in the County. That might be acceptable for plants you can't find elsewhere, but the prices are high across the board. That one gallon plant you can buy at Lowes, Home Depot or any of the other local nurseries for $25 will cost you upwards of $50 at The Greenery. It is that much more expensive. The ugly: I have been an avid gardener my entire adult life, and The Greenery is the only nursery I have even seen charge a "pot" deposit for larger plants. So, for example, if you buy a plant in a 25 gallon pot, you will be charged a rather large deposit (I want to say $25 - $30) for the pot. That's right. They charge you extra for the standard black plastic nursery pot the plant comes in. I don't know why this bothers me so much, but it really does get under my skin, and I have driven out of my way to nurseries in Santa Cruz and Gilroy to purchase avocado tree varieties I could have purchased at The Greenery because I don't think I should have to give them their $10 nursery pot back after I plant my tree in order to avoid a $30 surcharge. I'm sure they are trying to cut costs, and I might be onboard with that if they were actually cheaper than their competition, but they aren't. The same plant will ALWAYS be cheaper at Westurf or Morris than it is at The Greenery. If you're looking for a few plants, and you live in the Turlock area, I would definitely recommend visiting The Greenery. But if you have a large landscaping project and need a lot of plants, you are better off looking at Westurf, Morris or Grover. Frankly, I would even recommend Lowes or Home Depot over The Greenery for large volume purchases. read more

Absolutely incredible customer service! Epic plant knowledge and willingness to share and teach the customer how to start and maintain their garden. First and foremost, I am a plant enthusiast, so I love hearing feedback about how everyone solves their plant needs (growing recommendations). This staff is willing to give you one on one time to help see that your garden flourishes with their product. If they don't have that item, they will get it. They are also familiar with traditional gardening such as rows but also different layering patterns to best suit the crop at hand. I am a mom of 4, however I walked in today with my youngest 3 (ages 3, 20 months, and 5 months) . The employees were extremely helpful with my entire purchasing experience between loading my plants/ fertilizer/mix, checking me out at the register, and answering all my questions while my children were to say the least extremely busy/fussy. First and Last time I buy from there. Bought a tree followed everything the employee told me, even bought the fertilizer they told me. The tree died the first couple weeks it seemed but I gave it a few more weeks to see if anything changes it never did. Went back with my receipt the manager would not take responsibility and would not exchange or return it. It was a bad tree from the beginning. The management team should be ashamed the way they handle there customers, beware they are nice when they are selling you the plants but if something goes wrong they will never work with you. read more

The best place in Turlock to purchase plants for your home and yard, fact! My husband and I wanted to plant an herb garden and decided to ask the experts which herbs would grow best in our yard. We spoke with one of the knowledgeable employees and selected a variety of herbs for our garden. Basil, rosemary, sage, and thyme plants were our choices. The plants thrived in our herb garden and provided plenty of fresh herbs for our cooking needs. We will definitely return in the spring to purchase more plants for our next landscaping project! read more

I dropped in on a long road trip and couldn't have been more refreshed with the lovely plants, products and home decor at the Greenery Nursery. Not sure how I came across it, but very glad I stopped by on my way home to Sac. I enjoyed the pre-made succulent containers and other interesting plant holders. The plant selection is quite expansive, you could find just about anything I bet. Lots of lovely maples, tons of cacti and succulents, indoor/house plants, local natives, a bee/butterfly section and much more. Very friendly and helpful staff rounded things out nicely. Inside they had lots of home decor stuff, which was a bit overwhelming (looks tacky all in one spot, but you just put a few in your place and it brightens things up). They have very seasonal items, they were moving into fall/halloween when I came in September. I liked the wide selection of local products in the back, lots of jams, soaps, sauces, beauty products and baking mixes (some not so local, but very natural stuff). I got some nice scone mix and jam that went perfectly with it. Head over to the greenery right away for all your plant and home decor needs! read more

Went here after a Dr. Appt, and had a great time walking around and looking at all the house plants, and gifts!! My sister and I had never been here, but wanted to check it out. We even found Air plants (Tillandsias) here!! They have this Beautiful Black Kitty that is part of their staff. So much fun seeing the cat. But they have a beautiful selection of gifts, that are unusual! The only negative is they are a bit high priced, but we will be back! read more

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this nursery after my most recent experience. It is a pity too, because it is a beautiful nursery and I used to shop there quite frequently. To my disappointment, I was made to believe my concern regarding an infected plant would addressed, but I was really just ignored. I had purchased a rose bush from them that began to exhibit mosaic virus. I contacted the nursery, and the manager appeared to be sympathetic. I indicated I was not seeking my money back, simply a replacement for the rose bush. I spoke to the manager a few times, and she even convinced me to remove the bush from my garden because of concern that the virus could spread to healthy plants. She also told me my request was reasonable and she would need to contact the grower to get the approval for a replacement. I followed up and each time she told me she was working on it. Several months have now passed with no resolution of the issue. I removed the infected rose bush as she encouraged and they have never replaced it, nor contacted me. This experience has soured me on this nursery. It was a simple rose bush that should have just been replaced, and instead they lost a loyal customer. read more

i have had the joy of frequenting this place for the past five+ years or so. a friendly and knowledgeable staff that never pounces on you some merchandise upon sale; even allowing you to parooze through the variety of plants of trees to shrubs to vegetable (non-organic, sigh) guilt free because you're just not feeling a plant purchase today. yet, who goes to a nursery without the goal of purchasing? aside from their staff's performance and abundant offerings of outdoor landscaping tools and plants, unfortunately they are very limited or never carry indoor plants (aside from some ferns you'll find floating around in the outdoor area). which I must admit, i picked up a couple ferns 'cause imma sucka for an indoor plant. they do provide a great deal of pots which are better than ones you'll find around town (home depot, target, lowe's) which is the nice thing when compared to your other selections; kudos to a non-corporatism nursery. there is a very extensive gift shop inside for the women who enjoy terribly-scented unnatural candles and accouterments. i just wish they chose to (at least) offer a small section of indoor plants and pots aside to what is dedicated to the over-indulgent home decor un-necessities. however, i know the culture of ladies around this area who would totally frequent this as their more upscale shop for home gifts; so maybe that's the reason it's nearly doubled in the past few years. read more

These folks know the gardening business. When I am stumped with a problem, they always have the answer. A little on the pricey side, but the stock is gorgious. Most all of our roses have come from here (at least 20) and are beautiful and have been well-worth the price. The gift shop is unique, with seasonal updates. The staff are really nice. I came about 30 minutes before closing, and I wasn't rushed or pressured about anything. I'm glad that they had heirloom vegetables, but I just wish that they had more of a selection. We visited on Saturday 5/18. The older woman working one of the cash registers was snappy & rude & acted inconvenienced by everyone she interacted with. Such a shame to have someone like that working at such a beautiful place. Aside from this mean woman, we had a good experience. It's a gorgeous space with so many beautiful plants to choose from. All the plants were healthy & well kept. We could have spent all day there just looking at everything they had to offer! There's a sweet little black cat (Dahlia) who wanders around the nursery & we loved the woman who said she was "The Greenery Greeter" & helped us carry all of our plants straight to our car! read more

i have shopped here a few times over the last year and it was always a nice experience, until one day in july when i fell on there property. i had a severely dislocated and fractured finger. the only thing staff asked me was if i needed an ambulance called. no one asked for my name or my phone number so they could call and see if i was ok the following day or something like that. I guess what I'm trying to say is i would have hoped for at least a little bit of concern or compassion for a woman that just got hurt on my property. maybe I'm wrong but wouldn't that have been the decent thing to do, or at least, I think. I would expect a business that's been around as long as they have, would have had more concern for their customers than what I experienced. I am a self-employed barber so this fall cause tremendous strain on my family and I was terrified and just wished someone would have reached out and showed me they cared just a little bit. read more

Loved this place!!! It's so abundant with greenery and they had everything I needed. They carry coconut coir which was very difficult for me to find anywhere else except online. The soil they carry seems to be composted for a longer period of time than anything from the big-box stores (Home Depot, Lowes, Orchard, etc.) The soil they sell is under Kellogg umbrella, but they assured me that this line of soil is top tier and more composted. I'm looking forward to trying it out! read more

Unfortunately since we live in the Central Valley there are not too many places to go to buy plants and such since scenic nursery closed- and the greenery is close to us and has been our default nursery. We have bought vegetables, in and outdoor plants, soil and other things here- first I have to say that they seem very pretentious and despite the fact that we can afford to shop there they cater to the wealthy and keep their prices ultimately high with markups that are baffling. The staff can be helpful if you seek them out- though some are not as knowledgeable as others. In my most recent experience with shopping at the greenery I needed two outdoor plants to fill a 3x6 area in my back yard- I asked a young staff member and he didn't really suggest anything- I looked around and saw some pretty plants at $40 each- asked if they would handle full sun part shade and the staff member assures me they were a good choice. I took them home and planted them- not 10 days later they were both dead. I was informed that I could not return them and couldn't get a refund. At $80+ I would expect two plants to live and to thrive- especially after I asked if they would work out for the area I needed them for. I am not going to return to the greenery for this reason and have begun using another nursery that I am completely satisfied with service product and price. read more

These people are nice, and helpful. There is a boutique style shop inside where you can find wonderful gifts. There is even a 'shop cat'. My whole family loves going here. What on earth just happened? I called and a very young girl answered. I told her I had placed an order for bare root fruit trees and wanted to know if the order was in. She said "most" of the bare roots were in. I asked "most"? Then she checked and came back on the phone to tell me all the bare roots were in. When we arrived and said we were there to pick up an order, we were met with hostility, rudeness, and an arrogant woman (owner?) who insisted that I had talked to her. Not so! Our order was not in and she was angry at us for what? We did nothing wrong and were courteous until then end. I made the right telephone call and was treated like a criminal because why? read more

A few days ago I purchased indoor plants from this nursery and though they looked to be in good shape when you're in the store (it's dim lit inside), when I got them home, I found they had horrible root rot. There was so much gray and brown mush in the soil and all over the roots. It was disgusting! I've never seen anything like it. I took photos right away and sent the nursery an email of my situation and included the photos (this was now after hours, but within 3 hours of purchase). I said I would like an exhange for healthy plants or a refund if need be. I never received a response. I called them the next day and retold them my story and I was told I would be called back. I never was. I called again the following day, and again, they gave me a line that they would call me back on it and didn't. Needless to say, I was out all the money I paid for these plants and I felt ripped off. I will never shop at this nursery again. This is bad business selling diseased plants to customers and then not doing the right thing by refunding their hard earned money. Those who have plants know they are not cheap and it's upsetting that this nursery is ok charging customers $20 and more per plant and then don't care in the end if their customers are getting what they paid for. I understand root rot happens at times, but they should absolutely do the right thing and take care of their customers they have sold sick plants to. read more
