Even though the prices were good, I feel gypped. I called ahead and asked if they could do nail art. They said yes, and to bring in a photo of what I wanted. When I arrived, I showed the nail technician what I wanted (yellow nails with just two nails in white with sunflowers, a pretty simple design). She agreed. She was very rough with filing and pushing back my cuticles, I was in pain and asked if she could go a little lighter. She said yes but nothing changed. I ended up bleeding on two fingers. One of them is still stinging. When it came time to do the nail art, she pulled out a bag of stickers. I was disappointed and said I was expecting her to paint what I showed her, and asked if it was possible for anyone there to paint the sunflower. She said the stickers were better and how they do it. It seems like other reviews show hand drawn designs, so maybe I just got a technician who doesn't do that but she should have said that up front. Of course, there was no sunflower sticker and I ended up with a random design, and yellow nails for no reason. Why didn't she tell me she wasn't going to do what I showed her?? I would have chosen completely different colors. The nail technician did spend a good amount of time with me, but overall I'm disappointed. The time didn't reflect the outcome. My nail shape is also uneven and the several nails are not painted to the edges. Extra sad it's my birthday set. read more

I almost didn't visit Modern because as I was leaving my house, my neighbor told me that her recent pedicure from here had begun to chip after just a week. Decided to give it a shot, though, since she also said that, otherwise, the experience was good. I received what seemed like a very thorough job on my fingernails by one lady. A very quick job was done on my toes by a second lady; she was finished with my feet before the fingernail lady had clipped one hand! I, regrettably, failed to pay close attention but considering the time spent on my feet, I assume only one coat of polish went on--no second coat and certainly no top coat. I originally intended to go back because the experience was a pleasant one but then something happened: My nail polish began to chip within 4 days. They used Opi (commonly used in salons) as the color coat. But the top coat was in a "mystery" bottle. I'm making assumptions here but I bet they are using substandard base & top coats. I hate to give a bad review because the ladies were so very nice to me, the place was clean & comfortable and they are conveniently located with out-front parking. But the bottom line is that the product was lacking. Bummer. read more

This is a small place, but they're so good here! My nails always look amazing, they're really nice and upfront about pricing, and I never feel rushed. Since they're small, if you're normally in a rush make an appointment. They're really good at working you in though if you're like me and can never seem to plan ahead. read more

Pros: My mani and pedi seem to last forever! This is mui importante to me in a mani pedi. The chairs are new and have awesome massagers that actually work. They don't talk a lot, and they are not hard on the upsell like the freaks at Happy Nails are. They have the latest magazines so I can get caught up on all the lame celeb gossip that I secretly love but don't tell anyone. Mani pedi is $30 and worth it. Cons: You can't add tip to the card receipt...parking can be slim on the weekends since it is downtown Laguna. Best to walk if you live in town. Oh...and they don't really help you put your shoes back on when the service is done. There's no real direction once they are done with you. read more

I came in a little later than I planned (half an hour to closing!) but the ladies were all more than happy to help me. Terry (sp?) patiently helped me pick out a fun color for New Year's Eve- I'm super indecisive with stuff like this and she didn't even flinch at the fact that I took 10 minutes to pick which color glitter I wanted. She ensured my nails looked PERFECT and when we found a little issue with one of them, she insisted it be re-done, even though it was well past their closing time. I told her I appreciated it but that it wasn't necessary- but another girl came over to help and they quickly but very nicely fixed any issues with my nails (I wouldn't have even noticed the "issues"- they obviously take a lot of pride in their work!). I love coming here because of how friendly everyone is, the huge variety of gel colors, and the diligence they take to ensure their work looks perfect. read more

Shh! This is where I get my nails done when I cheat on my regular manicurist. The place is tiny, so if there are more than three clients in there including two manicurists it can get a bit claustrophobic. I've found the best time to come in is during the week when it's less crowded. The parking lot, however is a nightmare, so be careful. My manicurist Dao is really gentle and does a great job. Not bad for a $12 mani and in 30 minutes no less! read more

I like this place. They are priced well for the area. A basic pedicure can be under $20 without all the extra scrubs etc. I do get the hint they want all the add on services of callous removal, etc but if you don't get it they are super cheap and do a great job. I gave them 5 stars due to service and how good my toes look when I leave. I do get frustrated that they seem frustrated if you don't add on more services. But they are kind and very clean. Overall they do a great job for the price and I have been there about 5 different times. read more

10 out of 10 guys! I went in for an ombre full set and Misty was the best I have ever had. Extremely attentive to detail and very experienced. The price was also a happy-surprise...only $45 for this exquisite set. I have had ombre nails done many times in many different places and I never left completely satisfied. I am proud to say that I have finally left 100% satisfied. Misty treated my nails as if they were her own. She gently removed my previous set with no pain (she used the soaked cotton technique) and took her time layering and filing the ombre powder until she reached perfection. Thank you Misty! This place is the BEST!!!!! I love getting my nails done by Ty he does such a great job on my acrylic nails! I can show Ty a picture I find on pintrest and he gets it done! I always get so many compliments on my nails! This place is super relaxing it's so close to the beach you can feel the ocean breeze while you sit and get a pedi. Love it!! Crystal did a really good job on my pedi the sugar scrub they use left my legs soooo soft! This place is pretty great! I needed a place where a full set of acrylic nails (pointed is 30$ for basic colour) wouldn't run me 60$+ (common for Laguna). The ladies are nice enough and won't chat your ears off if that's not your thing. It's pretty quiet the pedicure stations are clean and really comfy. They do accept walk ins but there's only one lady who does acrylics so you might want to make an appointment. Only complaint would be that when someone came in during my acrylic appointment asking for a fill the lady tending to me started to rush a bit which I found rude.. but i was passed off to a sweetheart who finished painting them and made sure I was dry enough to leave without doing any damage to her lovey paint job. read more

This is one of my favorite nail salon's. Every time I go in they know who I am and seat me right away, and anyone who walks is seated right away in a chair if a chair is open. They take great care of your nails and make sure everything is how you want it. Misty is the manager there and is very reasonable and sticks to her word about her products! She makes it feel like home there! Some of the girls I go to are Terry and Jenny! Jenny does a really good job at threading if you would like to get threading done! Honestly I feel like when I go anywhere else it doesn't compare to how well they do my nails here. They take the time to do everything perfectly so your nail polish will last long. They also have gel that has vitamins in it so it's really good for your nails. They also have set of gel and polish that match so you can have gel on your hands and polish on your toes that match. They have about 9 chair or 10 and a waxing room in the back. They also use LED lights so doesn't add extra UV damage to your fingers. So it's amazing to know that you are in good hands when you go here! When you get a mani and pedi you can get the royal pedicure and they put a minty leg mask on your legs and an orange scrub and lavender lotion!! Highly recommended! Also all of their polish is OPI or ESSIE! They have a lot of options!! You can also call and make an appointment to secure a good time to go in! I've been going to this nail salon for quite a while when I am in town, and I really like the way they do my nails. However, some of the employees get pretty pushy about getting other services done and sometimes if I don't want to get other services they rush and get sloppy on the rest of my nails. All I can say is they do an AMAZING job, I just get regular gel manicures and pedicures but they meticulous when it comes to cutting cuticles and making sure my nails are filed perfect. I am very disappointed in this place. I used to come all the time and enjoyed my experience. (They typically do a pretty good job.) However, the last three times I made an appointment they had taken walk-ins and I had to wait for over 30 mins. On top of that they told me it would only be 15 mins- so I had to keep coming back only to wait again. Very frustrating when your expecting a relaxing experience. I came here today for my first time. This will now be my new regular nail salon. The salon is small but very clean super friendly and great work. Their pricing is very good for nails as well as waxing. I had the most pain free waxing experience I've had in quite some time. If you like nail Shallac or Gel nails they have both and for around $28 for the OPI version. I highly recommend this place you will not be disappointed. read more

This was the worst manicure I have ever had. First the woman cut my nails so short, then in the middle of soaking my nails, a girl walked in and asked to get her eyebrows done. My hands are dropped in water and the woman tells me to wait 15 minutes. The eyebrow wax was not scheduled, why would you stop doing a current customers nails in the middle of a manicure. When she comes back, she shapes my (now very short) nails so horribly and then starts painting. I see her notice polish from my old manicure and she tries repeatedly to paint heavy polish over it. I ask her to remove the old polish and she seems disappointed she was caught. Then a brush from the polish gets caught on my nail and sticks in the middle of the nail, I point it out and she continues to keep globing polish over it and smiling at me telling me it is fine. I am the customer, and no it is not fine. She was rushing the entire manicure and there was not one customer waiting, I can only imagine how bad the service is when it is crowded. Maybe it was an off day, but I would never recommend going her for your nails. read more
