The owner or person who looks at the review had FALSELY stated many things!!! First, that the nail tech thinned out a previous new set which took an hour. With drills, any set would take a few minutes--not an hour. What crap! Totally not true which is why I complained that it was "super thick." He didn't cut down the nails as I requested either, so my too-long nails created a problem lifting my natural nails to what I considered an unsafe level. Your employee treated me for nail fungus. You can tell me it's bacteria if you like, but antifungal remedies were applied. The spot occurred between the first fill at your salon and was exposed at the second fill. Your employee freaked out, gathered several products, and proceeded to remove that section, treat it, and reapply the acrylic. It was very obvious that it was between the new set and the first fill at your establishment. The psudomona was NOT found under the new set. It was found under the fill your employee gave me. Please stop lying to the public. Additionally, I was NEVER asked to remove the new set that the owner claims caused a psudomonas. NEVER. Even on the second fill. I was never advised on how to treat an infection at home. EVER. The fact that it took you 2 years to comment on the review shows that you probably don't even remember my situation. You just want to defend your salon. Understandably, but stop lying to the public, please. read more

Horrible customer service! I got my nails done on the 21st and the man that did my nails didn't do a good job, there wasn't any shine, they hurt, they were cut too short and they were bumpy. WORST manicure I've ever received. The owner knew I was upset, she came to ask if everything was okay and when I told her I was unhappy with my nails she said to come back on the 24th. Cause she's booked for the day. If she had great customer service she would have fixed it right there and then. So then I waited to come back on the 24th and I even called to confirm my appointment. And when I got there they said someone would be right with me. But Instead she helped another customer. Basically wanted me to wait till she was done with another set of nails. The guy who just did my nails literally made all of my fingers bleed. After I told him, there was NO apology. I also wanted a nude, almost a clear color on my nails. I picked a color and it was hot pink on me. I interrupted him several times to tell him it didn't look right and he kept insisting that it was correct. In the end, I was right and I told him to take them off. When I asked for it to be taken off, he got frustrated and was rough with my fingers. I'm in pain now. Their excuse was that the color on the samples had faded. That's not true. They charged me for the manicure where he cut my fingers up. I want my money back. read more

I went to get 1 nail fixed and a shellac polish change and had high hopes for this place. The lady in the entrance greeted me and then asked me what service I required. I informed her of what I was needing. Then I showed her my nails and she made a horrible disgusted face and asked me "did you get the set done here?" I said no I am new. Then she asked me to wash my hands. So I wash my hands and walk my way to the front reception area. During my wait the lady tech made it loud and clear talking with another customer and said "I just HATE doing other peoples fills." Obviously directing it at me. Well I sat down with another tech and he tells me I need a fill. But then does my nails a bit aggressively. I felt very uncomfortable. Then when I went to pay and the lady in the front totally ignored me and didn't even say bye when I left. I get my nails done regularly and let me tell you, I will NEVER come here again. You have lost my business Modern Nail and I hope you learn some customer service skills. I guess you forgot that part from beauty school. read more

I went to this place once before with my best friend and had my nails done by a lady there who did a pretty good job, but they were busy at the time, so I didn't get exactly what I wanted because I didn't want to take up more of her time. Despite that, so was pretty satisfied. Fast forward a few weeks and I know I'll be in the area, so I thought I'd go back since it would be a less busy time. The original lady who did my nails the first time was on maternity leave, so I went with another lady who was there. (I don't remember her name). I showed her pictures of what I wanted (which was nothing crazy since she said she wasn't good at nail art like the other lady on maternity leave). She couldn't have cared less to help me, so I had my fiancé try to help me find the colors in the 50+ swatch rings. Every color I found, she would say "No. that's dip color" or "no that's powder. Too late". I had no idea which rings I actually *could* choose from, so I asked her which ones. She just sat there and called some other guy over and he finally grabbed two colors off of the shelf and asked me if that was ok. At this point, we're going to run behind if this keeps going, so I just say "fine". That night at dinner, my gel polish chips off of both my thumbs. I didn't get anything near what I wanted, and suffice to say, I will never return. read more

I don't get my nails done all the time but when I do I'll come here. My nails were 52 and I tipped, they were done really fast but I'm so sad about them. They're crooked on some fingers and although fast was convenient I feel that taking your time would have looked better. My nails are tender because I have the nail literally on my cuticle... and the overall smoothness of the nail shape isn't there. I feel like I threw my money away this time. The owners....now they do lovely nails. I guess I'll request next time. read more

After coming to this place almost 4 years leaving San Antonio to move to Houston I will miss everyone here. They are all welcoming and when you go more than once they know you by your name which is nice because they care about their clients. I have always gotten my nails done and my toes. This places stays busy so the only times I could get in were right at opening, tried to do a walk in but forget about it same with scheduling same day but if they're that busy they're doing something right. I love this place! I was always jumping from nail salon to nail salon looking for someone worth all the money I was being charged! I finally came across this place! I'm always 100% completely satisfied and I'm constantly getting compliments on my sets. I've seen everyone's work on a couple of friends and they're always perfect. Lieu always does my nails and she does AWESOME work!! I'm very busy so I don't always get to go in as soon as I need a fill, but I do make the trip every 4-5 weeks with ALL 10 nails still in tact and shiny. They last so long! I've never had a lift or a break! The environment is lovely. It's like being around old friends. They definitely do whatever they can to make you comfortable. Came here based on Yelp reviews. They could not see me right away when I arrived at 10am but offered a Noon appointment. So I left then came back. They did a good job. I get the impression that they do not get very many men if at all. They have three Asian men and an Asian lady, I think the owner, doing the work. They speak very good English which is a plus. You can tell they take pride in their work by the cleanliness and the organization, including an appointment book. This place is way better than that dump on Vance Jackson I gave one star to. I got the "luxury" pedicure for $45 and a manicure for $15. Total $60 plus a $10 tip. It was worth it, the manicurist I think his name is Ronnie was very nice and friendly and did an outstanding job. If you are a guy or have a guy friend who was like me once and would not consider a pedicure then this is a good place to feel welcomed and relaxed. They offered me water and moscato which was nice. It is not fancy, just clean and simple. Please note: parking lot is always full due to the plasma donation center in the same strip mall. It can be depressing to see the people in line, many looking weak and tired. read more

Having just moved here, I was looking for a place that did a simple mani/pedi at a reasonable price. After calling almost every open place downtown on a Saturday, I found Modern Nail. The price was $40 for a mani/pedi (not shellac, just plain jane clean nails and some polish) - and they take walkins. Many of the manicurists were male which is new to me, but they were very good (I went with a friend and the place was very busy) and super friendly. I was extremely satisfied with the look of my nails once they were done - the whole thing took about 1.5 hrs or so, may be a little more. I would definitely go back here - and would probably make an appt because they were pretty busy and seemed to have a lot of regulars as well as walk ins. read more

I've been coming here for the last two months I'd say. I've been very satisfied with the work they do here but I could say otherwise by their customer service. My very first time here one of the employees were extremely rude but did nice work. Bc of the excellent work I decided to come back but wanted to try someone different. Second time here I believe I had the owner do the work and I was completely satisfied. Now I'm here once again and I made an appointment for my best friend and I to get our daughters nails done together as we got our done together. (Early Mother's Day bonding with our kiddos) I'm completely unsatisfied as a paying customer. For starters my appointment (which I scheduled in advance) was 45 mins later not only was it late but I decided to get a color change instead of pedi bc they took so long and the guy who did my color change rolled his eyes and filed my toe nails very roughly. My daughter wasn't able to get her toes painted with her friend at the same time so now she is the last one out of 5 of us yet she was the most excited even told her teacher at school she was going to nail salon. By the time it was her turn I told the nail technician she was just getting REGULAR polish not gel once again he was annoyed and told me they don't have regular polish so I told them I'd take my kiddo somewhere that does. I took a look around the salon found some regular nail polish right on the wall. Not exactly sure why they told me they don't maybe they wanted to make an extra buck little do they know I'm a single mom raising two kids and this trip was supposed to relaxing yet special hanging out with my best friend and our two girls. Bad costumer service. I don't understand why they make appointments if they're not going to follow their schedule. I waited over 35 minutes after my "appointment" to get my nails done. I had scheduled for a full set and a pedicure and I was told it was too late to do the pedicure???? What??? I was there 10 minutes early to my appointment still had to wait more than half an hour to get my nails done and you are telling me it's TOO LATE! It wouldn't be too late if you would actually follow your schedule. Never going back. Nail artist gives you attitude and don't understand your questions. I paid with my card and I didn't tip them on my card and the lady gave me a horrible look.
