Repeated No-Shows, Poor Communication, and Unfinished Work We hired Irving with Modern Innovations to install a garage service door, baseboards in our garage and living room, and a few light fixtures. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing and unprofessional from start to finish. Irving came out on Tuesday to inspect the project and determine what materials would be needed. We scheduled the work for the following day at 9:00 AM. This property is not our primary residence and requires a 45-minute drive each way. After rearranging our schedule and arriving early, Irving did not show up until approximately 1:00 PM--four hours late with no regard for our time. When he finally arrived, he only worked for a couple of hours before telling us he was too busy for the rest of the week and would have to return later. We were already inconvenienced by the late arrival and delay, but agreed to reschedule. A few days later, I received multiple text messages late Saturday evening requesting payment for the partial work that had been completed. Assuming the money was needed for additional materials and wanting to keep the project moving forward, I paid him for the work completed to that point. We then rescheduled for the following Tuesday. The day before, I contacted Irving to confirm the appointment, only to be told he could not make it and needed to reschedule again. We then agreed on Thursday at 6:00 AM. I confirmed the date and time multiple times, and each time he assured me that 6:00 AM worked for him. For the third time, I rearranged my schedule and drove 45 minutes to the property. Once again, Irving failed to show up. At 7:30 AM, I texted him asking where he was and what his ETA would be. He responded that he had gone to Lowe's and was only 10 minutes away. I waited until 9:00 AM, and he never arrived. After that, I never heard from him again. The job remains unfinished despite receiving payment for the work already performed. My experience with Irving and Modern Innovations was marked by repeated no-shows, chronic lateness, broken commitments, poor communication, and a complete lack of respect for a customer's time. If you value reliability, professionalism, and follow-through, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Over the course of the next 7 months, Irving and his team have helped me completely remodel the house. This is due in large part to 3 main qualities that Irving possesses - honesty, dependability, flexibility Irving is honest about what things will entail and upfront about costs and timeframes. If something won't look good or is going to cost a lot to do, he is the first one to speak up and share that Irving and his team are dependable. When he says he will show up and get a job done, that is what he does. In the rare instance he couldn't make it, he was quick to communicate and ensure he was there at his earliest convenience. Also the jobs were completed on time or quicker than quoted which is uncommon to find now Irving is extremely flexible. Many times I would add to jobs or change design or just generally change the vision for a project. Irving was always willing to listen and adapt. We had a 36" microwave over the range which are not in production and only option was to replace it with 30" with fillers. I had a beautifully tiled shower done by Imperial Wholesale, however, they do not do shower doors. They gave me 2 names of companies. Both gave me THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS, not what I wanted. I selected the door that I wanted but needed someone to install it. He agreed that he could install it, and gave a quote. When it was delivered by Home Depot in my driveway (because it weighed 225#), Irving and his associate stopped by my house to carry it into my house, and took away the palate and shipping cartons. Now, 4 days later, he and his associate installed my door. They were professional, cleaned up all their materials, were courteous and knowledgeable. It is an amazing door to go with the tile. I have the tile, the faucets with the diverter to do both rain/sprayer either/or/both, and the bypass "barndoor" 3/8 " spot-free glass door with dual handle/towel bar. Other companies told me "NO". He scheduled a appointment to come to my house on Wednesday February 7, 2024, to take a look at the work that needed to be done I waited and waited only to receive a text stating he was a hour away, after still waiting he still did not show but sent another text wanting to reschedule the next morning. Which I could not do. Then Irving agreed to come Tuesday Feb 13 at 5 pm. On Tuesday, February 13, 2024 around 4pm I sent him text to verify that he would show. He stated he was on his way Well guess what, he lied again and did not show up at all I definitely need remodeling work to be done, this Irving guy stood me up twice, when I could have had another contractor come. . Not only is this Irving guy, unprofessional, he is inconsiderate and disrespectful of other people time, and selfish as he has no regard for other contractors who could have come for this job. i hired irving for some built in shelves and a bench in my front living room. he came to my house to quote the project & all was fine (besides the scoff he gave me after he asked what material i wanted him to use, which i replied "idk, wood?" and he scoffed and said well there are different types-- i'm not in this line of work so how would i know?) we moved forward w a start date & he drew up some sketches for me. he drew up 2 options, we both agreed one looked better than the other so we moved forward. start date got pushed back 2 days bc of truck trouble. understandable. contract said start time was 8-9am, he text me to change it to 9-10 & i told him that's fine. they didn't show up until 1045. he had been to my house to do the quote, so he knew how far of a drive it would be. cant remember if it was the second or third day, but i noticed it wasn't looking like the sketch we agreed on (a 6th shelf or the bottom being filled in & wainscoting across the bottom- we agreed on wainscoting option). so i nicely asked him about it and he said "you wanted a shelf" i told him no, we agreed on the wainscoting. and i showed him proof of our conversations & he said ok, & went & got more material to finish. job took 3 days which was fine. everything looked good from what i could tell. i had my painters come 3 days later to paint. my painter had to sand an area down on the bench bc the bench was hitting the side of the shelf when opened. you'll see in the photos that from afar it looks amazing, but up close, the "finishing touches" were anything but that. u can still see the screws, the edges of the entire structure are uneven. and it seems that plywood was used for the underneath parts of the shelves & are now bowing. i sent irving a video 2 weeks later asking if i should be concerned about that and he said "The Wood is probably bowed or got bowed after paint. your fine. It's natural wood gets bowed as it gets exposed to chemicals like paint or even the weather" not sure why one would use a material he knows could do this once painted? like i said, the shelves look great from a distance. but up close, there are so many flaws & it makes me sick to think how much money i spent for a "finished" job like this. read more

I hired modern innovation to do a remodel in my kitchen, new flooring in the main living area's paint, move washer and dryer to another room and turn previous laundry area into a pantry, and some other things. My first meeting Irving I felt like he would be a good fit as he seem to have good ideas and understood what I wanted and I felt I was clear. Keep in mind my father and brother were contractors, my husband has done construction. So I'm not an idiot, but I am not by any means a contractor or even a laborer for that matter so I really relied on his expertise. I found him to be confusing at time's, forgetful in regard to conversations we had. His way of speaking to me put me on the offensive and made me question who I hired. And why my pantry, my front, main living room, and other minor things are not done. Once the final cabinet, was in I was done. He's been paid for what he did. I have attached some pictures and I really hope I can comment on them but if I can't, here's a brief commentary of what I see. On my door what is that? It doesn't match up with either side of the other floor boards and when he was installing the last cabinet he didn't notice that the the peeling paint on the ceiling. Again I know nothing about how to do carpentry but black nails on white baseboard I could swear you can get white nails if you don't plan on painting the baseboards. Putting up that ugly thing under my door I guess you didn't notice the piece of wall under the glass that was not painted nor the broken glass that wasn't broken before. If I could remove the one star, I gave him I would. Now I am on the hunt for someone new that can remodel my bathroom. read more

Cannot recommend enough! I had a restoration job due to a malfunctioning water heater in my backyard casita, so I contacted Modern Innovations to provide an estimate. I was impressed from first contact, and even more impressed when he got me a price. Out of four contractor bids, his was lower by thousands, but most importantly, he could get started quicker than everyone else. Sure enough, he showed up when promised and his very efficient, polite and kind staff got busy. What I most appreciated was his communication of every detail. In a few days, he left the little house looking better than ever (even working on a Saturday to finish up), and alerted me to some other issues that could cause concern later. They know what they are doing and work clean and fast. I work with a lot a big contractors in my profession, and would choose Modern Innovations for my home over most of them. read more

Be forewarned! Do NOT hire this company! I received an estimate for work Irving Lopez was supposed to complete and I paid him in full and he did not do the work. In addition he lied to me because He said he replaced some broken tiles in the bathroom and all he did was paint over them. The contract was for him to fix some broken sliders on windows and he did not do that. The contract said he was to fix the garage door openers and I had to hire a garage door company to fix them after I paid him $1100 for a job and parts to include those items as well. Irving told me that he would send me the itemized receipt for the items I bought totaling in excess of $300 at Home Depot and never provided the itemized receipt. I paid over the phone with a credit card to Home Depot and he was supposed to provide me a photo or copy of the receipt listing the itemized items for which I paid. The most upsetting is that he would not even stand by his work after I contacted him after the work promised was not completed. He also left a disgusting toilet that stunk up the whole house. It was his Yelp reviews that made us call Irving initially for a quote, but it was our experience working with him and his crew that will keep him on speed dial for future projects and to happily refer him to anyone that will listen. We actually looked to Yelp and called Irving because we weren't thrilled with the other two quotes (from referrals from close friends) that we received. Our project is the "Huge Kitchen Remodel 2023" that Irving has shared on Yelp. It was more than a kitchen remodel, it was taking down walls, expanding our space, redoing all of the floors, including the back patio, moving most of the lighting and painting almost the entire house. We could detail all he and his crew did, but it really more about who he is instead of the job done, as he is patience, conscientious, trustworthy, and kind. We actually left town for a week during Thanksgiving where he and his crew had access to our home and worked throughout (even on Thanksgiving Day) without a concern. He became the tiebreaker when my husband and I could not agree on a backsplash or where to put something. He was a sounding board when we weren't sure of the direction we wanted to go. By the middle of the project, I nicknamed him the "genius". While our initial project is done, we already have a list of other projects for Modern Innovation. read more
