First time using modern heating and AC. A company installed a brand new boiler with furnace oil burner. I found them to be efficient. Only two days to install the complete system. The owner loaned to me a space heater until the job was complete. I only have one request from the company to use drop cloths as not to make a mess on their future projects. The owner, Chris was in touch with me from beginning to end of the project. I appreciated that very much. The two technicians that came over to the house were very polite and helpful. Will I continue doing business with this company? Of course I will and I think you could too. I would like to keep a good relationship with this company. read more

He even helped me fill out the impossibility difficult federal and state rebate forms and we actually received a check to offset the cost. His crew was great. I've used Modern Heating & A/C for two different tasks. You can read the long form below or go to the end for the TL:DR. The first was replacing my hot water tank with a tankless water heater. This was not an urgent replacement, so it took a very long time from when the deposit was paid until the work was done (mostly due to inclement weather). They were able to install the new system, remove the old water tank and added additional copper to keep everything connected. The total cost was around $4800 overall for a water heater that costs less than $2000. I didn't receive a proper invoice so I don't know how much was from labor and how much was from the marked up cost. I was satisfied with this work. The second time, I was calling because my boiler was not functioning. It kept turning off even once restarted. Additionally, the circulator pump was leaking. They came by, took a look at the pump, and said that they would replace the pump and my expansion tank and that should fix the problem. They did come by and do that, but the boiler was still not able to keep running. Apparently, a safety was being tripped because the chimney was clogged, so they said they would come back once the chimney was cleaned so they could bleed the system and make sure it is in good working order. I had the chimney cleaned and they came back and started up the system successfully. They then waited for the system to heat up, noted a few drips coming from some of the radiators, and bled the system the best they could, though the third floor radiators weren't filling entirely with water. What went unnoticed, however, was that one of the radiators was leaking large amounts of water. I did not notice this until later that evening when it was raining in half of the dining room. The ceiling was dripping and the paint/mud was sagging and eventually splitting. The dining table was soaked through. I was panicked. I reached out to let them know and was told (two hours later) that someone would come by tomorrow to check it out. I was given no advice on what to do in the interim. I was able to find the leaking radiator, though, and used towels to absorb the moisture while I flushed the water from the system. The next day, they came back and were able to fix the leak by slightly adjusting one of the nuts on the radiator. I received the invoice shortly thereafter for $1900, which included an hour of labor for when the radiator was adjusted. I reached out to see if there was anything that could be done about the damage the water had caused or if I could be discounted the $150 hour of labor for the last day when they were fixing the radiator. A week later, I never received a response. Ultimately, I feel as if I paid $1900 to have two things replaced that probably didn't need to be replaced (since the problem was the chimney). In addition to those unwanted costs, I got to deal with water damage to the dining room ceiling and table. TL:DR - They will do the work they promise to do, but expect a heavy markup on parts and $150 an hour for labor (which seems to be average). If anything gets damaged due to their oversight, expect to pay those labor costs to have them fixed and deal with all of the damage yourself. read more

Our old water heater broke and we had much going on in at once. When I called Modern Heating, we were told that they would be out the following morning. His front man was on time and his coworker also came out shortly after. They were on it. They ordered heater, removed old, and installed new. Chris the owner came out himself to check on things.we had hot water that afternoon! I'd would highly recommend this company! They responded quickly, worked so hard to help our emergent situation. Hi, Just to letting my experience be heard.. This guys have two stars because in there specialty they are just great, they work clean well didn't see any flaws there that why you should pay always a good professional job.. Now here is where they lose me.. I have 3 units for three different floors, they were called for problem of no hot water on third floor.. They came and after two hours they diagnose that couldn't find anything wrong with 3rd fl system but my 1st fl had a bad valve and there canisters needed replacement. They order parts and came 3 or 4 day after. To install and repair.. 3 more hour of labor.. Here is where all the problems started They charge $150 an hour, that's cool .. what is not cool is to diagnose 2hours and then come another to repair for 3 hours and then Charge me 5 hours of labor.. ending charging $750 .. $300 for just coming and diagnosing and $450 for actually repairing it??? This is wrong you.. They should have a diagnose fee or at least credit you the show up if you do the work with them.. Not be charged twice for the same job.. if this is the case they should come prepared to fix.. not charge you two times.. YOU JUST CANNOT CALL THEM it will cost you $300 out the bat without getting your stuff repaired. On top of that they send you an Email for payment with no invoice attached but with another following email saying you have to pay an "x" amount .. you don't have your invoice yet and you pay the amount this resulting in extra charge by paying by the only method at the time suggested to pay.. I also fell for this, I believe the rush we all face with life some time we lack of just taking a look and questioning these things on time before paying leads to these situations, a hard learned lesson.. I called just after 8am on a Monday and they had someone at my house within 45 minutes! The wire powering our unit had gone bad so the tech replaced it. My tennant texted me last night 12/18/18 at 8:00pm and told me he had no heat on the first floor. Called all the big names in heating and air and the best they could do was show up at some random time in a few days. One tried to schedule a time for mid January. That was not going to work. I took a chance on a local Agawam heating and air conditioning firm that was well reviewed on Facebook. Chris answered right away. I started a group text for him and my tennant. They figured out a time to meet TODAY. :) The heat got fixed TODAY!!! Is Modern Heating and AC the best HVAC service provider in the greater Springfield Massachusetts area? Although I did not end up using the services of Modern Heating & A/C, I'd like to thank the owner, Chris, for being so responsive and willing to come out on a weekend. We talked about the possible problems my boiler could be having, and possible solutions, and he was willing to see what he could do (unlike some other people I spoke to). AND he answers the phone, and responds to texts! When I look for someone to do home repairs, I read reviews like these, and I can see that this company provides great service. I recently hired modern to do a total overhaul of my heating ac and plumbing. From the time I called Chris I received prompt service and got an evaluation that same day. After having several estimates I know he gave an honest and thorough assessment. I needed to add more return ductwork to accommodate the addition of central AC, and with some creative thinking and problem solving, chris was able to strategically place all the vents to maintain the aesthetics of the home without any major overhaul. He also installed a tankless water heater and was also able to problem solve on where to position the equipment to maintain the feng shui of basement. Modern delivered a quality product in a timely manner, my home was left clean and everything was installed exactly to my specifications. Chris was also very good with communicating during the process if any minor issues would arise. The work was quality and met the specifications of the city inspectors. Chris also provides me with all paperwork filled out to utilize the mass save program. I knew this was a major project to undertake but Chris was able to deliver. Modern is definitely recommended for any ac or heating needs you may have. They can definitely handle any project you have for them. read more
