Nutmeg Mechanical Services replaced our air conditioning system quickly, which was a godsend in the recent heat. They were curteous, efficient and ubobtrusive. In addition, their cleanup and removal of our old system was impressively thorough. We now have a new, quiet system of more evenly dispersed coolness than what we previously had and we know that we can depend upon it. read more

Poor communication. They canceled twice on me and then never show up at the rescheduled times or they show up 90 min late. Never got a call

Nutmeg Mechanical installed an A/C system in our 1970's home recently. From the quote to the final invoice, everything was on time, as predicted, and meticulously done. It is a big expense of course and we did our homework. Nutmeg Mechanical's pricing was competitive on top of being highly recommended by people we trust. We are glad we got an A/C system: cool air and humidity control have been a game changer. We lost some closet space and nearly all the attic to the pipes, but that was to be expected. We also subscribed to their yearly maintenance plan. We enjoyed working with Steve and we warmly recommend Nutmeg Mechanical's services. read more

Had an appt with Shane on 10/6/25 for replacement of air handler and condenser unit . He suggested the lines need to be replaced and the pad moved . Nope run the lines outside the wall and cover them like my neighbor . He seemed to have an attitude towards me and the job the whole time . Was going to get the quote in three to five days . Well well well here I am on 10/16 and no answers. Called the office and they still want to give me a quote . Sorry Nutmeg I went with someone who wants the work and sent me a quote in two days . They could have come in dirt cheap and still wouldn't use them out principle . read more

I needed to have a new furnace and hot water heater installed. I called on Nutmeg and we set up a time to see what was needed and recommend what would work the best for me. Shane came out and checked everything out and got back to me promptly with my estimate and costs. We set up an install date and they were on time and had everything they needed. The installer and his technicians were the best! The job was done in one day and the plumbing and venting were far superior to what was there. I would hire these guys again for sure. read more

Matt from Nutmeg came to fix my heater, which wasn't blowing warm air and I was getting nervous given the frigid air approaching New England. He was friendly, professional, on time and fixed the heater in less than five minutes. The price was very fair and my appointment was scheduled for the next day. Thank you Matt and Nutmeg! read more

First time home owner- got an annual tune up and cleaning. Figuring out this adulting stuff as I go but my technician was super helpful. Had a Geothermal System Installed 6 years ago by Nutmeg Mechanical Services. How is it doing? Great! From start to finish everything was seamless and smooth. Got the initial quote from Chris and he handled everything including the paperwork to the get CT rebate. Most important aspect of the installation process is sizing the units correctly. No problems here. The unit keeps up at -10F temperatures without a hiccup. The only thing that has happened during the 6 years was the capacitor went out once. They were johnny on the spot and got a new one placed in. Overall a great company. They do it once and they do it right. I know one of the reviewers here had a bad experience with their geothermal install but not me. I know many others that has had an awesome experience with Nutmeg and their geothermal install. Its a big expense and you need to go with a company that does a ton of these every year. I doubt other companies in CT do as many and do it correctly. read more

I was in escrow on the sale of my home and the buyers had requested a service call for maintenance and a condition report of equipment. I had an appointment with Nutmeg Mechanical that was made there weeks in advance. On the day before the service call, they called and canceled the appointment and offered no substitute appointment at a later date. I had to scramble to find a company that could do the call in time. It is understandable that a company call and reschedule but Nutmeg waited until the last minute to cancel putting me in a difficult position. I recommend you give this company a wide berth. They do not care about the customer. read more

I contacted Nutmeg and met Quentin Eastman at my home within a week during the beginning of the summer. Within the next week, Quentin provided 3 options for air conditioning. The options were a fairly priced and competitive. I accepted 1 of his recommendations and my air conditioning system was installed in about 2 weeks. In addition, Quentin contacted our electric supplier (not Eversource) and provided us with important information about a current rebate that is based upon several efficiency requirements. He provided us with the qualified equipment and we received our rebate within a month of the installation! The crew that showed up to install my system did a great job. They were professional and meticulous. Thanks to Quentin's efforts, this process was streamlined, cost effective and the installation was completed quickly. It was a pleasure doing business with Nutmeg Mechanical. read more

Super unprofessional, be careful. I called them to get our AC unit serviced, one their techs called me and said it was going to cost around $300 for them to come out that night, it was an "emergency call". He said my name was in their system and I could just call their office in the morning, and someone should be able to come out the next day and would cost a bit less. So the next morning I called, the person I spoke with in the service department literally started screaming at me on the phone and said they are not taking any more customers, completely belittling me and talking down to me. Just watch out for these guys, their reviews look good, but it seems like that is just for people who they have worked with in the past. read more

I can't speak highly enough about this company!! They are knowledgable, thorough, and get the job done. We were in the process of looking for a company to install central air into our 1952 brick home. A friend of ours recently used Nutmeg so we called them first. Well we didn't have to make any other phone calls after that. They came out immediately to look at our space, then within 2 weeks time they were able to install our new central air. It took them 1 day to do it. They followed COVID regulations by wearing masks and being safe. Our central is a great addition to our home and we couldn't be happier with Nutmeg Mechanical! read more

Horrible. Installed and overcharged [by at least $40,000] a Geothermal system that had faulty and wrongly installed heat pumps. Yells and screams at the Homeowner when he wants to manipulate you. Years of calls to get him to care to make proper repairs, and replace whatever needs to be replaced got nowhere. We finally had to give up and hire a talented and knowledgeable and well-respected company in Connecticut. Apparently, Steve Wierszbecki and Nutmeg have done this to other homeowners when they think they can get away with it. Through the grapevine I have been told that Nutmeg has manipulated other homeowners and a Builder fired them from a job in Glastonbury. That lucky family at least had a Builder who understands bad workmanship when he sees it, as most do not. This has been an expensive nightmare for any homeowner. And to find out that he overcharged by a huge amount [the job, according to several honest installers, should have cost around $90,000] and he charged over $120,000 for a faulty, sloppy, badly done job. Do not trust his salesmanship and "Mr. Nice Guy" act when he will have no problem hanging up on you [after he yells at you] and lying to you and just kicking the can down the road to get you to give up. This guy should be in jail, and his several men [MIKE being one to avoid altogether] who do terrible work should be in jail. Almost everything was "jimmied" and the hook-ups were wrong in many areas of the installation. The photos you see by other customers is NOT what we got. And again, this was the price beyond belief that we paid. No proper insulation was used and pipes continue to drip, etc. A terrible, horrible job. read more

Friday night when me and the girlfriend got home the house was freezing. The thermostat was set at 68º however the house was 55º. Obviously something was wrong, so I went downstairs to the basement and heard the furnace going, and the duct work coming out of it was hot, yet the house wasn't. Clearly this meant something was wrong with the blower, and the house was only going to be getting, since it was in the 20s outside. Before heading to the theater for some volunteer work I was doing that night, I looked around online to try and find someone to fix the heat. Everyone I called either did oil heat, didn't do forced air, or only does weekend calls for people they have a contract with. This was very frustrating, but since I was heading to the theater anyway I thought I would ask around there. Again everyone I asked either used someone with oil heat, or wouldn't do weekend calls. Finally just before leaving and about to give up hope I asked one last person, who turns out had gas heat, and had someone to recommend. I called them and they couldn't have been nicer. They were there in 20 minutes, stayed for 2.5 hours and replaced my motor. They only charged me $450 bucks for the new motor, emergency call fee, and 2 hours labor. I thought this wasn't horrible since it was in fact a Friday night. I might have lucked out a bit because my furnace took a standard size motor that the guy had in his truck, but either way, I was expecting it to be more expensive, so I was very happy with how everything turned out! read more

This company is the worst. I'm surprised they're still in business. I've talked to people with similar experience. They came out to my house at least 10 times until I finally gave up and called another company(they fixed it the first visit). I felt nutmegs mechanics were more trained on milking you for money, then actually working on their craft. Do yourself a favor and call another company. Good luck. read more

Installation was unprofessional, with the wiring a total mess. The attitude was always "the homeowners fault" which was horrifying given the trust we put in them to both design and install a Geothermal system properly. We paid more than $100,000 for a system that we later found out should have cost around $70,000. They were incompetent beyond belief. I was personally yelled at whenever I complained and even told 'to find someone else' to service us when they had been paid in full and we were having serious difficulties with the whole system. The dishonesty, lack of integrity, disrespect for the homeowner, and then the 'a la carte' scheme of having us pay extra above and beyond the original agreement for things that they conveniently did not include in the overall price. It has been an a terrible experience and would never, ever recommend this company to anyone. read more

Very happy with the service I received from Nutmeg. I needed to replace my Oil-fed Steam boiler in super-short order, the furnace had developed a crack in the heat exchanger and was pushing more steam up the chimney then to my radiators, where it was obviously needed; I was constantly filling the furnace with water to keep up. My initial decision to go with Nutmeg versus the other competing quotes I obtained was competitive pricing, and Home Comfort Specialist Leo, who, from beginning of the project, to the end, remained attentive and answered any and all questions I had. Leo performed the initial evaluation, and thanks to his technical background, had the knowledge to backup his professionalism. When it came time to finance the project, I utilized Capital for Change. Since I was dealing with somewhat of an emergency (I had to take days off from work to keep the furnace going in the cold weather) - Leo went above and beyond to expedite paperwork from his end to complete the loan. The day of the work, a crew of 7, led by Hunter, did a fantastic job of quickly removing the old furnace and installing the new Natural Gas-fed furnace. They arrived promptly at 8am and worked until about 4pm.. staying a little longer to ensure testing was fine, even checking (and tuning) all the radiators around the house. I'm writing this review approximately 2 weeks after the install, since then, Leo came out personally once to look things over and answer any additional questions. Most importantly, my house has stayed warm and comfortable thanks to Nutmeg Mechanical. read more

My elderly Mom (almost 92) may have the first central A/C system in the state, vintage 1958-9. The company that made this system stopped making parts in the 70s. It is the only total attic system anyone has seen in the last decade. But these guys have kept it running great. Matt has been our tech for at least 7 years and always takes the time to talk to Mom. He is the only service person she likes and usually remembers him. I met him in person for the first time today, but have talked to him before on the phone. I live out of state and it is so good to have people you can trust to be kind to an old woman with her share of idiosyncrasies. Matt has changed light bulbs for her. Every time I call, the dispatcher knows exactly the house, the system, and that Matt is who she wants. These folks get 7 stars in my book. Customer service like this is unheard of these days. A++ and many Thanks. read more

From quote to scheduling to installation and clean-up, Nutmeg Mechanical provided a superb experience in the handling of my AC system change-out! Jeff was highly knowledgeable in assessing and quoting my needs, the crew was focused, professional, and worked extremely well with each other. The overall know-how of the personnel and the functional crafting of the installation cannot be overstated to the good. I unequivocally recommend Nutmeg Mechanical. As is often said, the right trained and knowledgeable AC installer is as important, if not more so, than the choice of product. Nutmeg's expertise/customer care is well worth every spent cent! Nutmeg did a great job working with me to determine our needs and design a custom AC system. I had 5 companies out to spec the job. These days, it's hard to find a reputable company that is honest and and treats their customers fairly. I have been using another company, where I had a service contract. They came out twice a year to service the furnace and air-conditioning. Back in the fall, when they came out to service the furnace, the technician noticed that it was kicking on but then would go off; after about two hours it was decided to replace a major part. I was not pleased, but what can you do? You need your furnace in the winter! About a month ago, they returned to service the AC, and all was well. We recently had a cold spell and so I put the heat on again for about a week. However, after a couple of days, the heat did not kick on. I called and left a message and another technician came out, after hours. It was some other part that needed to be replaced. Even with the discount, with the service call and the replacing of parts it would've come to just over $500. I was getting disgusted, and realized that while it didn't need to be fixed at that moment, I still wanted to get another quote. I called Nutmeg Mechanical. I used them several years ago when I lived in another town and was renting. They were the only companywho would come out that same day, which was on the weekend, as it was a ridiculously hot day and the air-conditioning had died. Remembering this, I called them, and they sent a technician, Ed, out the next day. Very nice, very knowledgeable, and came to the same conclusion that the other company had, but the price he quoted, for everything, was over $100 less! So much for a service contract where I was getting a discount...ha... I am done with the other company and will continue to use Nutmeg Mechanical for my HVAC maintenance. I highly recommend them. read more

I have been working with Nutmeg Mechanical since 2015. They are the most reliable, professional, knowledgeable (and clean) group of mechanical contractors that I have worked with (and I have worked with at least half a dozen in Central CT). Their technician Jim, has been the primary point person for my ductless split system. In a circumstance beyond Nutmeg's control, there was a defective part. Jim and the other technicians worked diligently and on numerous occasions to find where the defect was and the owner Henry would not give up until they found it! We've enjoyed cool summers and warm winters since they have corrected the defect! In the office, Kim has always been responsive in getting someone out to address my concerns in a timely manner. In fact, I had forgotten about a concern I had and she called me back this morning and asked me if Jim could come out and take a look at it. It was fixed within the hour. On another note, I have an investment property with some older mechanicals (from the 80's). With that property, I have recently turned my maintenance over to Nutmeg because of their prompt and courteous service. One technician in particular, Jimmy, has always able to respond within a reasonable time period. In fact, one time I had to text him to check on my furnace as my plane was taxiing down the runway. I had to turn my phone off before I could get a response. 6 hours later when I landed, I checked my phone and he had let me know that he checked on my tenants and was able to get their furnace running again. After that, I reached out to Nutmeg's sales department and Quentin went over and gave me a range of estimates on an HVAC system. A month later, another part went on that poor old furnace...and it was on Dec 23rd right before everyone was about to leave the office for the holiday. I called Quentin and he was able to get the new HVAC system ordered and a crew together to install the system a day or two after the holiday (from my end, I felt that it was a lot for me to expect and I was truly impressed with what everyone pulled together). I would highly recommend Nutmeg Mechanical. They work with quality products, their technicians are knowledgeable, personable, and will explain things to you, and they will give you the customer service that anyone deserves. read more

This company was called to our house for the first time at the end of December 2010. They subsequently returned 11 more times through February 2011. They continued to show up and diagnose a possible cause charging us over $600 in the process. After the 12th visit our boiler shut down again in a matter of hours after they left our home. They failed to make the repair and still decided to slap us with another bill over $250 on that last visit. We were very patient throughout this situation enduring weeks of inconvenience and stress. Between having to take time off, show up late or leave early from work and waking up to 55 degree temperatures on several occasions we have given up on them. We were forced to find another service company and now have to pay them as well to fix what Nutmeg should have from day one. Very disappointed with how this was handled. You cannot continue to charge people to fix something that should have been taken care of from the start because technicians are just guessing at possible problems. If you can't figure out what the REAL problem is just say so and we would have parted ways trying to find another company that could have. We should receive a refund for everything except the initial charge from the first call!!! **Update - company sent back the last check we made out to them. The new company came in and within ten minutes diagnosed the true problem with the transformer. The new company had to only come out the one time...were stunned they other company had made so many other visits and had misdiagnosed the real issue...to fix the problem and the boiler has run perfectly ever since. Lesson learned** read more

I started out skeptical after seeing only two reviews (one 5 and one 1 star). Decided to call anyway. Discussed AC issues with owner and he gave me a couple good ideas to try since I told him I was a DIY guy. No dice. I called next day at 8:09AM and even though he was very busy (start of the heat and humidity), he said he would have Sr tech over in 15 min. Came on time. Polite. Quickly diagnosed wiring problem (my bad from furnace repair). Fixed! I asked if he would pressure test AC to make sure R22 level still good. Done. I would call them again. read more

I wanted to have a mini-split heat pump system installed in my family room. I shopped around and got three prices and then someone recommended Nutmeg. I contracted with NMS for my house's HVAC system at the suggestion of a friend. It's been a year now and I've been extremely pleased with the service and attention. Not only have they been very courteous and responsive (from receptionist Kim to the techs), but accommodating and proactive. On the last visit the tech saw a problem created by the prior service company, called the owner and the owner immediately authorized replacing a pipe at no charge to me for either parts or labor. The work was definitely outside the scope of the service agreement, but they did it anyway. I recommend NMS highly. read more
