H&D have replaced my aging oil furnace and air conditioning, as well as a new water heater most recently. I have their service plan, and for a reasonable price they come out and take care of the HVAC components on a regular basis. The technicians have always been straightforward with me, and I've had zero problems with everything except a whole-house humidifier, which needed to be replaced and re-routing of the drain hose, and they stuck with the problem until it was taken care of. They've always been responsive, and have a collection of great techs who are polite, respectful of property, and friendly. I would recommend them for sure. read more

In January they shut off my furnace claiming it was unsafe. I called to say I wanted it restarted and they said they wouldn't. They turned off the gas to it and claimed they hadn't. Tried to sell me a new one. I had another firm came by, discovered Hurley had also disconnected some wires internally so I couldn't restart it. Other company ran a combustion test which showed it was safe and actually over 90% efficient Terrible to shut me off in January when the temps were in the single digits By the way, the honest company that solved my problem was Countywide out of Westfield. read more

My gas bill is super high because the gas boiler just keeps running to try and maintain 60 degrees. Now my electric bill will be high because I have to use space heaters. The HVAC techs were great but the office dropped the ball. I needed a new boiler and they raked me over the coals and a year later, it doesn't work. They really don't care about their customers once the sale is done. My thermostat has been at 63 degrees for 5 hours and still only 60 degrees! After all of these, the price was brought all the way down to more than TWICE the other quotes I received!!! Once again, H&D will charge MORE - - better than anyone else. H&D will jump through hoops when you are going to pay 4-5 figures for either a new furnace or central air system. There service contracty6s area lot to be desired and forget about emergency service. I have had several appointments cancelled due to illness or other emergencies. We are now in the middle off a polar vortex and my furnace is not working, NO HEAT. According to their service manager, this does NOT constitute an emergency. The shame is their technicians are very good, whereas their management team, dispatchers and executive team come across a completely incompetent. I asked this company to figure out why I have no hot water. I have an aging Buderus boiler furnace which I (now agree) needs to be replaced. I was told that I needed an igniter which cost $816. I called my BIL who did HVAC and worked on Buderus boilers and said that the igniter costs $149 and is relatively easy to replace. So the $816 price seems way out of line. They estimated the replacement cost of the furnace to be $17-$24K and I have a 3000 square foot house so it would probably be on the higher end. I called a second company who showed me that the igniter had rusted and had water on it so the furnace must be replaced. They gave me an estimate of $10K and are coming Monday. I would avoid Hurley and David like the plague. They are very slick and full of BS. read more

About 5 or 6 months ago, we were scheduled for the winter update and were given a 4 hr time frame to be available. I would give zero stars if that were an option. One time the maintenance guy showed up around 4 hours late saying that he had a big project. No call...so send someone else! His name was Jason, he had a New Hampshire license plate, and he took a long time because he was flirting on the phone in our backyard. Today, I had this appointment for around 2 months. Basic prepaid winter maintenance. We were supposed to be second call. The first call was given to someone without heat...possibly they were too cheap to do maintenance. We're not rich but we pay for maintenance and then are treated like second class citizens because big repairs or replacements make more money! Very BAD MANAGEMENT with this business. When I called going on 10 I'm told that the repair person is in Granby so I drove down the street to Starbucks and mailed something at the post office. Granby is more than half hour away...I was gone for 15 minutes. They call while I'm out and say I was not around for the confirmation call...I had just been on the phone with them 20 minutes ago. They say I have to reschedule. Then they sent someone who arrived at 1. Two summers ago, they hurried and didn't spray the lemon-scented anti-fungal spray in the coils. The AC smelled moldy for the whole summer. I called three times and they said I would have to pay for a person to come over...when the summer is nearly over it gets fixed and I had to pay around $300 with a coupon because they also fixed a few little things that I guess were not spotted in the summer exam which also coincided with a new blower going in which I ordered but possibly should have been done as a separate visit so the summer prep would not be hurried. Other than these two experiences, the techs are excellent...detailed and motivated to do a great job and I love them. Ideally, there should be two fleets...the emergency fleet and the routine maintenance fleet. Thus we would not have lost so much time this morning...thus compelling me to go to Starbucks...which I do every morning...love the white chocolate mocha latte! Sept. 2023 the AC in my condo stopped working. I called for a service to access the repair needed at a cost of US$130.00 for the service call. The technician determined that because of a leak from an upstairs unit the Furnace was soaked internally damaging the motherboard and causing a rust buildup on rendering the furnace unfixable. They also claimed that the AC and Hot Water Heater needed to be replaced due to rust on the pipes and in age of the units. Hurley & David determined that I needed all new appliances. The quote to replace all units was a bit over $20k. I was very skeptical since other than the AC going out, I had no problems with the furnace or hot water heater. I called another HVAC company in the area who was referred to me by a handyman I work with. The neighbot upstairs had stopped the leak and in 2 days my furnace was dried out. The new HVAC technician replace a damaged circuit board in the furnace and everything is working fine after a 1 1/2 hour service call. Total cost$601.00. I was very disappointed that there are companies like H&D out there seemingly uninterested in doing service repairs and misrepresenting the problems to unsuspecting consumers with the objective of selling new equipment. Be Warned! My takeaway is ... do some company research and make use of Yelp, Google Reviews and other legitimate consumer sources for company reviews before you call for a repair. They sent at least two notices by text of the PM appointment and I took the afternoon off from work waiting for their 30 min notice call. Things can happen but I should have been notified much earlier that they needed to cancel. The killer was that they said the next time they could reschedule would be NOVEMBER 3rd, a month later! Sorry this is so long, but it is a long saga. On July 3rd, 2023, our air-conditioning stopped working. Since we had a contract with Hurley & David, we called and to their credit a technician came out on July 4th. Initially I was impressed with the response even for $130. The technician needed to replace the thermistors; mind you, the unit is only 3.5 years old. He ordered the thermistors, they arrived on Friday, and I was told that no one could come out until the following Friday, the 14th. After seeing ads about next day service, I was starting to become skeptical. The 14th arrived, he replaced the thermistors for $467, but the unit still did not work. They needed another part. To make a very long story short, we were told that we needed both a new control board and a new motor; both were replaced, and the unit still did not work. It turns out that both the control board and the motor were not even the right parts; they were "universal" parts, not the ones needed for our unit. Four weeks after our first call, and after the hottest July on record, we were informed that our only option was to spend $13,000 on a new unit. I called Heil (ICA) during the last visit on August 3rd after being told if H&D called it would cost me $125 per hour; Heil had someone out on August 8th who replaced the control board under warranty for a service fee of $100. In 20 minutes, it was working fine. Presumably if the technicians had called Heil the first time they were here, our repairs would have been done within a few days. I think that H & D's goal was to get us to buy a new unit from them. During the ordeal, I spoke to the dispatch team very often, and they were wonderful. They answered my calls and tried to help me. My frustration became heightened when I tried to follow up with customer service, who told me the company would defray some of the costs. They were never available and did not return multiple (at least 15) calls over the 6 plus weeks we interacted. Finally, I called my credit card company to complain about the lack of service that I received. I put a hold on the payments. Someone finally called me and told me that I had to prove either bad parts or incompetence (meanwhile H & D kept all the parts). I asked for the parts to be returned, but again I am not getting any calls. The customer service page on the company's website says: "Fixed right or it's FREE". Simply stated, our unit was not fixed right by Hurley & David. While I was willing to pay something initially, I am now unwilling to pay anything (because of how I have been treated by H & D Customer Service, and because of the trademarked advertising) read more

12/2021 Due to old heating system, new furnace/ AC and hot water heater installed at recommendation of H&D. Over the next 6 months breakers kept tripping creating ongoing heating issues. The initial breaker trip was at the end of AC installation leaving home with no heat for 3 1/2 days. Inside temp: 52 F. Outdoor temperature: 34 F * Calls with office focused on warranty and charges associated with service call rather than welfare of 91 yr old without heat. 2/2021 Two months later temperature could not be controlled and temp was running at 85f due to breaker trip. H&D said damper needed to be replaced. 5/2021 Heat set at 54, yesterday indoor temp is 78f. H&D replaced another damper. H&D said other dampers should be replaced. Service manager sent email sent to six different people within H&D. No one from H&D ever followed up on replacement. 11/2021 Humidifier unit falls off AC that H&D installed. On hold 27 minutes to speak to a manager. Ended up being informed by dispatcher that a manager would follow up with me. Dispatcher lacked empathy and personal skillset to interact with customers.Technicians were great, but all other dealings with this business have been an endless source of frustration. Once a family owned business, it's now owned by a larger business and misses the mark on customer service and service delivery. Just a year ago I contracted their services for my 92 yr old mother. They displayed zero empathy when, immediately after the furnace/ac/hot water heater job was complete, she was without heat for over three days after a breaker tripped. It was 52 degrees inside her home. Their call center was focused on charges for the service call rather than the welfare of their customer. It was stunning how inhumane they were to the living conditions their customer was stuck in. Continued tripped breakers over this past year have required more service calls. I'm still waiting for them to execute on a job from 5 months ago. However, the latest is a humidifier that fell off the system they installed. They were quick to rebuff responsibility, which was a candidate for further conversation. I called to speak to a manager (today) and sat on hold for 27 minutes and was left with a dispatcher that possessed zero customer service skills. Several hours later, I am still waiting for a call. If you have time to chase these folks down, these folks will keep you busy. If you want to feel like you're cared about and/or are elderly, don't use them. read more

Turned on the furnace this season and it made a loud humming noise. Called Hurley & David to come out. Was at first impressed with how quickly I could schedule an appointment. Tech Gio showed up on time but was very rude and hardly wanted to answer any questions. When my husband told him he was being rude he said "Sorry to hear that". He did not have the part needed so we asked how long it would take to get it and his answer was I don't know. It's getting cold so we didn't want to wait too long. I looked online to see what it usually costs to install a gas valve and it was half the amount that we were quoted. The estimate provided was over $1500 to install a $200.00 gas valve. I called another plumber, and he is going to get the part today and install it at a much more reasonable rate. I ended up paying $104.00 dollars (which included a gas surcharge) for the visit. If you are charging overinflated prices you should be able to afford to pay for the gas to drive to my house. He also did not put the covers over his shoes before coming in. Scheduled a furnace tune up in September and was scheduled for 11/21 between Noon and 4:00. Took the afternoon off from work. Come 4:00, no one showed up. No phone calls, nothing. I called right after 4:00 and was told my appt had been cancelled. I get it, technicians get behind or held up at other calls. But why not contact me? I was placed on hold to speak to dispatch. After 15 minutes of being on hold, I was hung up on. So I called back. I was told dispatch isn't picking up but a message would get to them to call me back to reschedule. No one called me back. Called the next morning. Again, was told I need to speak with dispatch to get rescheduled. I was on hold, then ended up in someone's voicemail. This is so unprofessional! I made an appointment with Hurley & David for our annual furnace check, which is paid for in advance with a service contract with them. My appointment was for today, 11/1/2023, between 12-4pm. They sent multiple messages reminding me of my appointment and even said I'd receive a text when their tech was on the way and I was asked to reply so they would know I was home. Shortly after 11am, I received a call from Alicia (?) from the office saying they needed to reschedule because they had emergencies. She said the next available appointment was 12/5, more than a month away!! I understand emergencies but to reschedule for over a month away is ridiculous, which I expressed to her. She very arrogantly asked me if I knew it was snowing out!! I took the same attitude and asked her how long she lived in New England as, yes, we had some flurries but the snow was not sticking to the ground nor would it last (by then it turned to rain). She rudely stated she did not have a window to see the outside. (not my problem) I wouldn't have been as upset except this happens frequently with Hurley and David. Always rescheduling. Prior to my service appointment, I was getting emails and calls from them requesting me to pay the fee for another year of service. My husband didn't want me to but we talked some more and decided to give them one more year to see if things had changed. What a mistake!! Now I'm stuck with them for another year. If they are so busy with emergencies, they should hire more staff. Since Hurley and David was bought out by whomever is running it now, the service has been terrible and the cost of any services is expensive. After receiving three estimates, we chose Hurley and David to install two mini-splits. The techs made an installation error and we had to call them back to correct the situation. The units have worked fine since then. But imagine our surprise when we viewed their numerous TV ads offering a $99 air conditioner tune up...and were charged more than double that! This company has recently been purchased by a bigger fish and ever since then most of their seasoned technicians have left and overall, service has become a nightmare. We have been spending close to $100 per month for their service contract Only to have our routine maintenance appointments canceled at the last minute several times. Contacting their business manager was of no use as she is completely unreceptive to any customer concerns or complaints. Hurley And David declined to compensate us for missed appointments or to refund any amounts paid for services that they failed to deliver. They are swindlers and do not deserve your business. We will be sure to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well. read more
