To start off with, it is a Sunday night before the snowbirds arrive (quiet). Our waiter "P" we have had before on several occasion. Well, he must have been having a BAD night. He was rude from the beginning and the service was terrible from our drink order all the way to dessert. "P" handed our hot plates of food to each of us, and made us grab our plates from him. I had an overpriced NY Strip that was the worst cut of meat I have ever experienced here. It was supposed to be rare to medium rare, and came out well-done. I did not have the heart or the patience to send it back. The other 3 dinners were acceptable, at best. Really? Who puts macaroni & cheese with chicken on a dinner menu for an adult??? The two other meals were salmon, now at half the size of what they used to be. The appetizers were calamari with no red sauce with a little yellow sauce. The calamari was cold, no one knew what the yellow sauce was, and we couldn't find out waiter, which was odd since it was such a slow night. (6p on Sunday) The other appetizer was the mini sherry meatballs, with no taste of sherry whatsoever, but included a grey mystery sauce. Not favorable! We have been to this restaurant many times over the years, and found it wonderful and decently priced for a steakhouse. Well, the menu has completely changed, and now is extremely overpriced for what Modern Chop servings. Steaks are better at the butcher, and dare I even say Publix. Detwiler's would be the best choice for this meat. It was my sister's birthday, and "P" made no mention of it. "P" did not come back to fill water glasses until the end of the meal, like it was "paining" him to do. We had finished our cocktails and wine, and never offered a second. BAD SERVICE! I completely understand that service worker's depend on tips as part of their salary, and I always tip on service. Needless to say, "P" was not happy with his tip when we left! Normally, we are over tippers, and felt that this could be a learning experience for him. We know the wait staff does not cook the food, so we don't blame the poor meals on them. Service is what they get paid for. Lesson learned. Overall experience with same decor as before, prices gone up 30% at least, food quality down by 40%! Go back to the old menu or at least include items for the old menu like fried green tomatoes and bourbon salmon. The fried green tomatoes were actually quite tasty. I don't like leaving reviews good or bad, just an FYI for future patron's of Modern Chop and its managers/owner. I won't bore you with anything else, but I was dissatisfied and disappointed. This was like my 30th time here for drinks and dinner. It is time to find a new steakhouse. read more

Unfortunately this place has gone down hill. The menu, the service, and the general quality and preparation of the food have all suffered. We recently had dinner here to try and give it another chance and we were pretty much underwhelmed and disappointed. This was the 2nd or 3rd time we had negative experience here. We used to like Modern Chop and would tell everyone we know about it. The once good food and menu choices have become lackluster. What happened to the risotto? Where did the pistachio crusted fish dish go? The pesto pasta dish my wife ordered was not great: undercooked noodles, hard undercooked broccoli. Bland. Was in dire need of some fresh parmasean (not offered). The NY strip steak was "ok". My brocolli was bland and undercooked. Seeing a trend here? Read other reviews about undercooked veggies (carrots). Even the Goddess wedge salad seemed bland. I had to add a ton of salt to get anything out of it. "P", our server, was ok at best. He seemed somewhere else. Didn't seem engaged or present. He smelled of cigarette smoke, which is never appetizing. Maybe he's burned out serving. P never offered bread (tho we had bread plates). I never received the garlic butter I asked for (because I just knew the brocolli would need it...and I was right!). He was adequate. Wouldn't be as big a deal if the food was great. It comes down to this: if Modern Chop is going to charge the kind of prices they do, they better well get their food, menu choices and service back on point. We are not coming back. Go to EnRich. It's pretty fabulous in every way. It's more expensive and the owner is a right winger () but the food and service was exceptional. read more

Atmosphere - Just OK. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall in a residential area. There is an outside patio dining area that is not that appealing. As soon as you enter the restaurant there is a large bar directly in front of the checkin desk. The restaurant is extremely noisy and table conversations are difficult. Service - Disappointing. Actually that is being kind. Our server was not particularly friendly, nor attentive. This was one of the worst service that I have experienced in some time. Food - Very Good. I ordered a cup of the Southwest Crab & Corn Chowder, and the Kansas City Strip with a loaded baked potato. The soup was excellent in every aspect. The steak was cooked to order. It was delicious and very tender. The baked potato was a bit on the small size, but it too was very good. Overall Value - Very Good. The price of my soup and entree was very reasonable. We had a much better experience this time than last. Unfortunately the bar was packed, so we couldn't have a drink at the bar before dinner, but they were able to seat us early and we had a drink at the table. I can't remember the name of my martini, but it had elderflower and cranberries and was very good. I settled on the grilled salmon, saffron risotto and asparagus for my entree. Food came timely and was nice and hot. The salmon was cooked a bit less than I like, but it was very tasty. Loved the risotto and asparagus. Where it fell one star short was service. It was a delicious experience on a busy Saturday night. We had an attentive server and really great entrees. The pricing is very good for a steak house and they offered daily specials as well. We had a little bit of everything and all was thoroughly enjoyed. My lil one ate her whole plate of chicken and mashed potatoes from the kids menu and it was served beautifully. We had an early reservation on a Thursday evening, due to having tickets to a performance later that night. When we arrived there were only a couple of people in the dining room. Our server, P., took our drink orders and after a fairly long wait, returned to the table with only 2 of the six cocktails. We waited nearly 10 minutes for him to show up with the remainder of our drinks. Dinner was no better. We wanted to order appetizers, but P. never returned to check on our table. After waiting a ridiculously long period of time, I finally had to flag him down to have him take our dinner order. He returned to the table after approximately 10 minutes to tell one of the members of our party that the beets for the beet salad would take another 25 minutes to cook, as they ran out last night and hadn't bothered to cook any in preparation for this evening! The salad order was then changed to a different option. Another several minutes passed and P. returns to the table to tell the same member of our party that they didn't have any rice, which he had ordered as a side with his meal. When our food finally arrived, P. told my husband that he had forgotten to place his dinner order with the others, but it would be out shortly!! Two members in our party ordered filets, cooked medium. One arrived RARE, the other WELL DONE! One of our guests had to remind P. THREE times for the horseradish sauce he had ordered with his meal, it was finally delivered when he was nearly done eating. The rest of the table was practically finished with their meals (except for the filets, which were cooked so poorly, more than half of the meat was left on the plates). When it was time to pay the check, the beet salad was still on the bill. When we brought it to P.'s attention he replied "Oh, I know, I just didn't take it off the bill yet......like he was hoping we didn't notice and it would slide by?!! We are normally 20-25% tippers, but needless to say, P. received 10% for the subpar service. We barely made it to our performance on time, even after allowing 2 hours for dinner @4:45 on a Thursday evening! WE WILL NEVER DINE HERE AGAIN!! read more

We had a great experience at Modern shop Steakhouse on NYE. Booking online made it very easy to reserve a table. We took our baby in a stroller and had no issues as they simply removed a chair from the table to make more room for us. Our server, Alex, was excellent. Service was marginal Most food was good except my sirloin. Apparently asking for a medium rare steak in a chop house is not attainable. First one came out medium and I sent it back at which the manager comes out with his phone light and asks me To confirm that the steak was not medium rare, twice. After confirming and pointing to the steak next to me on another plate that was medium rare he took the steak back rather indignantly. Next steak came out rare and cold in the center at which point I gave up. Also, the second steak had so much gristle it will be hard to tell if it was even worth going there at all let alone ever again. The other dinners were good and the crème brûlée was great. Worst meal ever. Took my wife, mother and her friend to dinner. They had a 'Prime NY strip' special, which the waitress described as prime rib. All but me ordered it. It was nothing but gristle. Right in the heart of West Bradenton, this upscale steakhouse is a bit pricey but a great place to meet up with a group of friends. The steaks are all top notch, with several preparations and sauces available to have your steak just the way you like it. Many other items on the menu that are all from scratch prepared and seasoned perfectly. Service is excellent and the wait staff have plenty of suggestions on the menu which was very helpful. We had a table of 3 with 2 appetizers and the total cost came to $185 with no alcohol ordered. The interior is decorated in a modern motif and it's a casual dress code. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was because I ordered the Filet and it wasn't as tender as a normal prime steakhouse because the chef used a weight on top of it and smashed it to attempt to cook it faster. Bad move, it was ordered Pittsburgh style and there are better ways to prepare it without smashing it. All in all a great meal with great people. read more

We have visited Modern Chop multiple times, the first time was solely because someone had gifted us a gift card. I cannot remember where the gift card came from, but thank you to that person for helping us find this hidden gem all that time ago! The restaurant is a perfect happy hour spot, as you can very easily see if you walk in around 5pm on any given day. There are multiple rooms you can dine in, the main dining room which is a bit more rambunctious as the bar is the center, or the side dining room which is more intimate and quieter - great for date night! Obviously at a steak house you have to get the steak, which is superb by the way, BUT I am always up for an adventure and have gone off the beaten path and so glad I did. The chili spiced loin chop is delectable paired with the lemon basil risotto and the glazed carrots. The salmon is also a great choice and always cooked perfectly. I will also add that their espresso martini is possibly crafted by the Gods themselves Needless to say, if this was TLDR - come to Modern Chop, get anything and you will be pleased! read more

I have dined 2 x within 10 days there. I love the place but have been challenged with several issues lately at the restaurant. We were seated and greeted quickly with reservations. our last visit we were put on the Red room dining where a flickering ceiling light disturbed our dinner. I recommend they cover the Rear service door with a decorative petition, so staff doesn't disturb customers sitting at the nearby table. Further, no service for almost 15 minutes while sitting at our table. The food was good - I recommend the chef tries the onion rings as they were disgusting. I have a few recommendations for the ownership. 1. If the waiter is buried and tells us he is working on both sides of the dining rooms - That isn't something a customer wants to hear. We heard that both times! 2. I would hold off serving the bread served at the table. Free or not, It was not good. just like the onion rings. 3. If the Waiter is busy why doesn't some of the other employees' hostess / Manager/ Owner pitch in and take drink orders and fill glasses with water? Any attention to customers would be appreciated.. 4. The Mangement puts too much pressure on the Waiter to do everything everywhere. No teamwork ... while we were waiting for the waiter other employees were looking at their phones and talking. 5. We will give Modern Chop a hold for now until we return if we do ... 6.
