She gave us an attitude (no idea why) we only took 3 mins to order and let people go before us bc we wanted to decide on our order. The white cream filling was weird- chemically/ off taste. We bought a 12-donut assortment because we'd heard so many people rave about Turner's Donuts, and it ended up being one of the most disappointing bakery experiences we've had. Every single donut - from the apple fritter to the glazed donuts, the angel cream, the Long Johns, and everything in between - was stale, dry, and honestly just disgusting. The apple fritter is usually my favorite type of donut anywhere I go, so I was especially excited to try theirs. It was a huge letdown. It was dry, lacked flavor, and wasn't enjoyable at all. Surprisingly, the apple fritter from the Wawa down the street was significantly better. The filled donuts were no better. The cream didn't taste fresh or bakery-made; it reminded me of Betty Crocker frosting, which is not what I'd expect from a donut shop with such a strong reputation. On top of that, every donut left a greasy oil film coating the roof of my mouth and my teeth, making them feel heavy and unpleasant to eat. The staff also came across as rude and unfriendly, which only added to the disappointing experience. I truly don't understand the hype. We were greeted with a big smile by one of the ladies that worked there--very friendly. The kids got an assortment of donuts that were devoured within minutes of opening. My wife and I both got breakfast sandwiches that were delicious. My wife got a coffee with cream and sugar--and she has since said that it was made "perfectly." While I cannot say how the service is these days, I just had to comment on the history of this place. I remember so fondly of my dad taking me here in the 70's as a treat to get the best donuts I had ever tasted. They created, at the time, the yeast dobuts that can only be compared to Krispy Kremes. I found these to have a much better icing and always were warm and perfect. My son and I arrived way too early for a baseball game and found ourselves walking down 9th Avenue until we stumbled upon Turner Donut Shop. When we walked in, we were shocked to see a packed restaurant/donut shop since the streets were so empty. MENU: Turner has more than just donuts. They have a full sit down restaurant with breakfast sandwiches, bagels, coffee, and more. And the prices are SO reasonable, cheap even. DONUTS: The donuts were good, not the best I've ever had, but better than average. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Quick and friendly service for our donuts to go. Great donuts This is not an impressive looking place, either inside or out, and parking was full. Yet I knew what was waiting inside, some delicious donuts. I was getting a box for later sharing and while I was there, a little something for myself. There was a line that moved along well, the order takers friendly and efficient. As I approached the front I spotted a maple frosting topped roll and knew that was what I wanted, along with those dozen doughnuts. My order was quickly filled. I moved to the dining area to enjoy my maple topped roll before heading out. They have a lunch counter and some tables along a wall and I was probably lucky there were several seating choices. My roll was very fresh, very sweet, and went very well with my coffee. The roll had raisins and was soft like a fresh donut. I read an article that said they have been in business since 1960. The place is in need of a facelift, or rebuild, but I hope the donut recipes never change. read more

Also, it was our first time visiting this establishment and we encountered a very weird interaction with the lady at the front pretty much immediately upon entering. she asked us if we were going to eat there or take our order to go. I said we would eat there and she just stared into space and didn't reply to me at all when I answered the question. So I answered again just saying "yeah, I think we will eat here." She seemed very agitated as she replied "OK well what do you want? I'm waiting for you." It was very weird and uncomfortable. All of my B-town friends and acquaintances told me that this is the best donut shop in the area. So, you know me, I just had to check it out for myself. These donuts are potato raised, and appear to be made from a mix, just like Gold Star Donut. However, Gold Star Donuts are fresher tasting at any time of day compared to what I had at Turner. Even at 10:00am, expect a wait, sometimes with a line out the door. Parking is often scarce because of the downtown Bradenton location and small lot. The inside was decorated with Chinese New Year decorations last time I was here and the owners were speaking both Spanish and Tagalog, which is awesome. There is indoor seating with a waitress, but there is usually not an empty table. There are cake and raised donuts to choose from, but the raised are not yeasty or fluffy- kind of flat. Nothing really spectacular or different and I found the taste and quality to be lacking. The dryness of the donut was also a major turn-off, as well as the taste of the oil. I was all excited because one of the cake donuts was labeled "Honeydew," which made me think of the delicious green melon that I love so much. After tasting, I realized that it was just a plain ol' cake donut. Lame... How hard would it be to take honeydew and put in the blender, then mix with powdered sugar to make a glaze, then dunk a cake donut in it?
