Wow. What a very high-end restaurant! I love the vibe and design of the restaurant. Deff a spot where wearing pajamas or gym clothes is not suggested. lol. Loved our waiter, he was very entertaining and gave us a great experience. We did the Modan Tasting Experience (Six Course Meal*). My apologies for not taking note on what is each dish, but we enjoyed the meals. We still had room for more food, so if you have a big appetite, just keep in mind this will not fill you. lol. So many options to choose from! I really enjoyed their sushi so I would definitely come back to eat their sushi. I would recommend this spot!
Pricey cocktails and wish there were more vegetarian options on the menu. The happy hour promptly ended at 6:30pm (Mon - Fri 5-6:30pm). I ordered a couple of cocktails off the menu - Lychee Martini was very boozy and didn't have much flavor. The Flor de Cana Pineapple Mojito is interestingly on happy hour, but not on the main cocktail menu. It was okay and not that flavorful. Honestly, I wouldn't mind shelling out $20+ cocktail if it packed a punch with flavor and well-balanced. These cocktails didn't measure up. The Cauliflower Taco was truly bite-size and was the teeny tiniest taco I've ever seen. I wasn't a big fan of the flavor, so I was glad that it was gone within 2 bites. After spending $60+ on 2 drinks and tiny taco, I was ready to go home disappointed. Our server was friendly. Maybe I didn't order the right drinks? I might come back to try another round of drinks, but not sure if I'm willing to dish out another $20+ cocktail.
This is my new favorite happy hour in Tysons. We came for ladies night and had a blast!!!! The restaurant is modern and clean, beautiful high windows and vibes are great. I was genuinely impressed with the service, professional bartenders, attentive servers, it was a smooth operation. They always offered something and checked on us attentively. The quality of the food and drinks are impressive too. Matching with everything else about this restaurant. I really recommend the tiger punch but you can't go wrong with anything. The minor inconvenience is parking, they validate for 90 minutes but we spent much longer here. Despite this, I cannot wait to come back.
This is a very end Japanese restaurant in Tyson's corner. It was recommended by our cousin and we decided to give it a try for my husband's birthday. We love the Wren, which is another high end Japanese place is Tyson's. So we're super excited to try this one. If you are a non-vegetarian, you have plenty of delicious options. However, as a vegetarian, the options are there but limited. Here is what I ordered: - Edamame: got the non spicy version and it was good. - Cauliflower: this was too bland for my liking. Didn't enjoy it that much. - Veggie Sushi: this was quite good. It had a good blend of veggies in there. - For dessert, we got the creme brulee and absolutely loved it. The service was excellent at this restaurant. Our service was superb and made sure we were always taken care of. The ambiance is super cozy too. I would love to try their fried rice next time. I feel that Wren has more veggie options, but I still recommend this place for vegetarians. Give it a try.
Very disappointing experience at Modan. The prices suggest a premium dining experience, but the food simply didn't deliver. The biggest letdown was the Wagyu dumplings. For the price, they felt like a complete rip-off. The filling was underwhelming, lacked any real Wagyu flavor, and the dish was nowhere near worth what was charged. Overall, the quality of the food did not justify the high price point. I've had much better sushi and Japanese food elsewhere for significantly less money. The presentation was decent, but taste is what matters, and this meal fell far short of expectations. I don't mind paying premium prices when the food is exceptional. Unfortunately, this felt overpriced, overrated, and not worth a return visit.
The food was decent but the timing of the arrival of the plates were abysmal. First off, they messed up my drink order, said they were going to fix it but never did until I brought it up again. We were a party of 4 and essentially 3 out of the 4 had to sit and watch while the 1 meal came out. The meals arrived one at a time. 1 person would eat their meal while the other 3 watched. Then another person's meal would arrive and the 3 would watch them eat. For the price point of the restaurant it was a really bizarre dinner service. This alone is enough for me to not recommend or return for another visit, which is disappointing because i felt like there was high potential.
Amazing ambiance and service! The restaurant itself is beautiful, great vibes for a date or special occasion. However, the Japanese food was decent, not the best, didn't taste authentic, but more like americanized Japanese fare. You don't get a good bang for your buck either, as portion sizes are small. The chicken karaage is usually my favorite appetizer to order at Japanese restaurants, but the portion sizes here much too small, and the karaage did have a good crisp to it. But they do give a considerable amount of dipping sauce to go with it. The miso soup also had a watered down taste, the miso flavor was not as strong or bold, although I did like the tofu pieces in the soup! The positives were definitely their cocktails and desserts, I enjoyed the Tanuki Tail cocktail and their Yuzu sorbet and Matcha Cheesecake! I would mostly just come back just for their bar, dessert, and overall vibes.
I had a reservation on May 22 at 7:30 PM, and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing on several fronts. The food was delicious but poor service overshadowed my first visit to your restaurant. First, when I ordered sushi, the waiter asked if I wanted fresh wasabi. I said yes, assuming (like most customers would) that wasabi comes with sushi at no extra charge. At no point did he mention that this was a $12 add-on charge nor was it clearly listed on the menu. When I received the bill, I was surprised to see such a high charge for a very small portion. If this is a premium item, it should be clearly explained--otherwise it feels misleading. To make matters worse, I didn't even consume it. Another staff member cleared the table immediately after I finished my sushi and removed the wasabi altogether, yet I was still charged. Overall service was lacked quality as well. My partner ordered white rice with his filet mignon, but it didn't arrive until we had to ask again--by that time, he had almost finished his steak. The waiter didn't even apologize for the delay. Between the lack of price transparency, premature clearing of dishes, and inattentive service, the experience fell well below expectations. As a first-time customer, my experience was both frustrating and extremely disappointing. I hope the restaurant improves staff training, particularly around explaining additional charges and basic service etiquette. At a minimum, I am requesting a refund of the wasabi charge and an opportunity to discuss this situation further.
Very good sushi place in a nice location. The bathrooms are very photo ready . The aesthetic is very nice and decorated modern. The music is also great won't put you to sleep. On the weekends it tends to be busy but the hosts, bartenders, and servers are great. I dined in a couple of times and it never disappoints . The drinks are good and the sushi is delicious.
This is my second time coming to Modan and I've had great service both times. From the moment you walk in the door the hostess greets you with a smile and you feel welcome. She even offered a purse hanger for the table! Diego was our server and he was very nice and explained the menu to us and was very patient. I did see a few comments saying it was expensive but it's Tyson's area what do you expect? The sushi was amazing and we got the same rolls as last time. Next time we come here we want to try the omakase!
Stopped by with a friend on a Sunday night with reservations. I don't think reservations were necessary though because it was pretty empty. This is not to say the food is bad but the restaurant is very hard to find! It's hidden at the back side of the Heming apartment building. We ordered a lot of food and everything was super tasty. I liked how all the flavors were not too aggressive and complemented each other very well. The presentation of the desserts was crazy too! The server explained all our menu items thoroughly and guided us through the selection process. I would recommend for a girls night out or a date night. It has a calm moody elegant vibe. Will definitely be back!
Service: 5 Decor: 5 Food: 2.5 We went for omakase and sat at the chef's counter. This was one of the biggest disappointing omakases I've ever had. And at that price, I'm not impressed. The chef was nice but the actual courses left a lot to be desired. The flavors weren't therefor those that weren't just fish. The presentation was fine. The fish was fresh but nothing to sing home about. I think the chef could have been more engaging about what we're eating. The sake was great- we ended up getting two bottles. Prices are a bit steep overall- def an amount we're willing to shell out for quality omakase. Not this. The restaurant itself is beautiful- so maybe a work event would be fitting.
I actually enjoyed everything we ordered. But the prices are a bit on the higher side for what you get. Also they charge extra for cucumbers (for uni sashimi) and jalapenos (rice dish wasn't spicy enough so asked for extra). My favs were the scallop, tacos and Indonesia hot pot rice thing. Sort of reminded me of bibimbap. Our server forgot our first order of drinks I think cause it didn't come out till first dish was done and we ordered everything at once. Liz bartender in training was running food came by a few times to check up on us and explain things. Even gave me a mini walk around tour of the restaurant. Super sweet and adorable! We got a huge dessert platter everything on it was good.

This was an incredible experience. The moment you walk in, the atmosphere itself just pumps energy into you. It's a precursor to get your taste buds rolling on all 8 cylinders! Went on a very busy Saturday night and our group sat at the bar. There was 6 of my closest friends celebrating my big event. Despite the busy night, (you could tell the waiters were busy), yet the service was attentive, prompt, courteous and polite. I posted all the pics of the food we ate and the sake. Loved Modan's Asobi time happy hour from 5-6:30pm in the bar area. Angel the bartender was excellent and attentive service. Modern Asian decor with a cool vibe. Happy hour gave us a good taste of many of their best dishes for much less. Tried almost all items on the happy hour menu. All were delicious and fresh. Parking garage is $6 for 2 hrs or $13 over 3 hrs. Really appreciated the beautiful special birthday dessert they gave my wife. read more

Very excited for this restaurant. Tyson's needed something like this. The ambiance is beautiful, modern and lively, the food is 10/10, and the service was great. My only feedback would be to maybe cut the filet mignon pieces just a bit smaller. The waiters were informative and knew their menu well. We also got to speak to some of the owners and they were super nice. I asked them if they'd consider bringing a DJ in and they said it's in the works! No complaints from me, thank you Modan for the experience! read more

We celebrated my birthday here a few days ago with 2 other couples and did the Special Tasting Menu. The service, food and ambiance was perfect! The cocktails were ok, probably will stick to wine when we go next. But the staff was incredible and that is what made the food taste even better! read more
We got the signature tasting menu (which was $125 per person). We live in the apartment complex in the building where Modan is so we're so excited when this place opened. We were pleasantly surprised. I highly recommend doing the tasting menu which comes with four courses including dessert. It's a bang for your buck and so much food. We were both so full we could barely walk afterwards haha. Their sushi is incredible. It tasted high grade and was absolutely delicious. Their main menu items were also so good. The chicken was super juicy and full of flavor while the fish was soft with a sweet sauce. My favorite part was the desserts. The Japanese style shaved ice was a perfect combination of tart and sweet while the matcha cheesecake was fluffy and not overly sweet or heavy. I would highly recommend you come. I will say, I had to dock them one star because the dessert took forever to come out. Our server was very accommodating though and offered us a free beer while we waited. Another thing was that water was $9?????? I wasn't expecting to have to pay for our water no matter how nice the restaurant is. The server didn't even ask if we preferred tap or bottled and just asked if we wanted still or sparkling. We asked for still thinking water (which is just a basic aspect of a restaurant) would be complimentary as it should be. We were unpleasantly surprised to see the check to see that it cost us $9...... They should change that. read more

We really like this place and the vibe, but it was quite expensive in our opinion for the location. If you took the same restaurant and moved it into the middle of Washington DC, the prices would be justified. But it is a great place for a good meal and this area definitely needed some high-end Japanese food. read more

Great spot with tasty cocktails and delicious sushi! Fantastic ambiance with vibes great for a date night. Staff is super attentive! Have had multiple great meals there. A big fan of their specialty rolls and traditional nigiri. Also really like their cooked vegetable dish. Only complaint is that their cocktail glasses / pours are a little small. Would be way happier if they used full size coupe / martini glasses for their drinks! read more

Came with fiance for dinner on Friday night, had an RSVP and we got seated right away. Love the design, with the open kitchen in the middle, and even a spot for taking photos. Service was great, and most of the food was good. We got the Seasonal tasting menu, had to ask the waitress since the menu didn't have any mentioning of the Tasting/Seasonal course. The 1st course was a salad, tacos, and this fried ball. The salad and tacos were good, but that fried ball was meh. Then the raw snapper slices, the citrus flavor one was good, helped cut down the fat from previous course, but the mushrooms one I could do without the mushrooms, had a lot from the salad. The sushi course was pretty good(high rice to fish ratio), except the firecracker roll, for a high end japanese restaurant I didn't expect to get a California roll(cucumber, avocado, crab stick) top with eel and fried tempura flakes. Then the mains, lobster and filet mignon. The lobster was delicious, the texture was silky smooth and they cut out all the meat already. The steak was cooked at different temperature from top to bottom, not sure if intentional but the top was well, 2-3 slices medium well-medium, then the good slices of medium rare. The desserts were great, that passion fruit, mango and lychee ice had the acidity we needed after all the food. The seasonal course was $165 per. read more

The food and service industry as outstanding! We went to Modan for our anniversary dinner. I would put Modan experience in the same category as Shoto or perhaps Wren at the Water Mark Hotel across Rte 123 from Modan. The vibe is modern chic. I was really disappointed to hear that they don't validate parking and we had to pay $13 for parking to dine at a restaurant in McLean! I won't be going back till they fix this issue. Other diners who walked out with us after dining at Modan made the same comments. read more

Wow! So impressed. This was my first time dining there. A friend recommended them so we went to celebrate another friend's 60th. The fish were so fresh and the favors were perfect on every dish. Service was excellent, I arrived early for my reservation so I had drinks at the bar. The bartender Hanna was so friendly and made wonderful recommendations. Great ambience with tall ceilings and open but cozy feeling. Im craving to go back very soon. read more

I went last night with 6 other ladies to celebrate my birthday. I had a cocktail at the bar before my party showed up and it was probably my favorite thing of the whole night. We ended up doing the omakase for the entire table. The first two courses came out fairly fast, but then quickly stalled. We must have waited over 30 mins from the second to the third course. Our server was very kind and kept apologizing, but I was surprised they couldn't get food out. It took us 3 hours to finish all 6 courses. We also had to flag down people when courses were delivered because we had no idea what we were eating. We thought the food was good, but nothing super memorable. They did bring out an extra dessert for my birthday, which was lovely. It was very loud with a live DJ so hard to interact with all people at our very large table. But the space is beautiful. Would I go back? Not likely. read more

I was so excited to try this new Japanese restaurant and it lived up my expectations. The food was amazing. Every dish was yummy and I will dream about the cod! We tried three of the desserts and all were great. (See photo.) The service was also top notch. read more

Best omakase in town! Only place in the DMV that serves Kama Toro (fatty tuna from the collarbone/jaw). The restaurant is beautifully designed with a large bar area, a main dining room with beautiful views of McLean, private dining rooms, and an omakase bar that seats 8. Also the only sushi restaurant in the area that has a dry aged locker for their fish and red meat, including tomahawk steaks and A5 wagyu. The food, cocktail menu, staff, and service are amazing and the menu has something for everyone, including those that prefer their food to be cooked. Go check out this new, hot restaurant! read more

Top notch. Had the premium tasting menu and didn't disappoint for our anniversary. Best bite of the night was the A5 Wagyu taco with Truffle sauce and gold flakes, pretty perfect in every sense - texture, taste, etc. . Matcha Cheesecake was outrageously delicious. Everything else was icing on the cake! Look forward to coming back to try the Omakase experience. read more

The atmosphere and food was the best I have had in DC. The aged tuna was the best I have ever had in 50 years of having fantastic dinning. The other part of the greatest experience has been the staff which is top notch for any restaurant I have experienced. read more
